We’re moving to Google Product Forums! Susan Moskwa 3/5/12 2:46 PM
Hi everyone,

Exciting news! We’re moving our forum to our new Google Product Forums platform.

Google Product Forums, which is built upon Google Groups, will enable us to offer you a better forum experience so that you can easily discuss what you’re passionate about with other members, as well as ask questions and get the answers you need.

The most important features of our current forum, like levels and marking aBest Answer, will continue to be available in the new forum.

Google Product Forums also includes some new features that users have told us they’d like, for example, the chance to add a “Me too!” vote to a question to quickly share that you’re interested in the question, too. You’ll also be able to +1 your favorite topics. And we hope you’ll enjoy the modern look and feel of the new forum, too.

You can see an existing example of Google Product Forums via the Google+ Discuss forum:
https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/google-plus-discuss

There’s also a Getting Started Guide that introduces some of the basic features:
http://www.google.com/support/groups/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=1649598

The move is scheduled to happen over the course of this week (March 5). Once the new forum is live, you’ll find it at https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters

After we move, if you click a browser bookmark to the old forum or you click links to content in the old forum, you’ll automatically be re-directed to the new one.

See you in the new forum!

Hi Susan, where can we see our point bars in the new setup?

OMG :-/

The day has come, folks, say a last farewell to usability - and hello to a bunch of absurd functions and a plethora of unitelligible buttons ... but well, you'll get used to have these new pets populate your screen for no good reason *g*

Me too.

See you there :-)

I used to be active on the GAN forum until it moved to the groups format - and as much as I try I cannot get used to it. The page won't scroll (the posts are inside a frame thing-ee) and the post titles are so small and tightly spaced that they are hard to read. Can make text larger of course but then I have to scroll sideways.

I did give the new GAN a few good ol' college tries, but have resigned myself to a life without google forums :-(

As a side note on GAN it is loaded with spam and there seems not to be a moderator. I noticed that not because of the spam per se but at the absence of spams on this forum. Not sure who to thank - the platform or eagle-eyed TCs :-)

@53.12north exactly!

@travler Thanks for the heads-up about the spam, I'll try to locate that forum's admin to clean it up.
If you can't see all the content on a page feel free to let me know what browser/OS you're using and I can let the team know.

chrome/mac lion - got an email from GAN - thanks for clearing that up :-)

will go 'practice' some more and see if it's any better.

Most of the day (when I'm at work at least) I use an iphone .... last I'd tried it it was pretty impossible to navigate any of the already moved forums.

Keyboard shortcuts on an iphone??? I shudder to think ....
Re: We’re moving to Google Product Forums! webado 3/6/12 5:53 PM
Wait ... doesn't  the notion of a shortcut mean there's also a long cut? Well I have yet to find those ....

I've got no iPhone - and still don't know how to really navigate there. It's the unwanted, unexpected and miraculous resurrection of frames (well, don't know how to call 'em, is it Ghost frames? Pseudo frames? Wannabe frames? Newframes? Zombie frames?) that make it really hard to get used to this new toy. It looks and feels like mum's 1996 homepage. I'd say they've tested it on their googly 24-inch twin hyper screens - and never even bothered to care about thinking what other people may see on their systems.

It amazes me that with all of its engineering and design talent, Google cannot come up with something that is as functional and easy to use as a default phpBB or vBulletin installation.

If the forums are the way for consumers to ask questions and get help, I don't see the logic in making it more cumbersome for them unless the point is too discourage consumers from asking questions in the first place.

I have a 10 inch Android tablet. Reading the new forums is almost impossible on it. Why design forums that don't even work on your own OS? Seeing how bad they are on my tablet, I can imagine how awful they are on phones.

lol - this crossed my mind.

Learning a bit more pa Russky and helping out on Yandex looks a better option than waiting for Google to admit the 156,000,000 operamini enabled phones..
Re: We’re moving to Google Product Forums! Kaleh 3/9/12 7:28 AM
Well ... 38,836 topics now appear on the new platform (including this one.)  Do you know if they are all moved yet, or if the "move" is still happening?

I was going to moan about the new forums because honestly I can't get used to it, probably because I can't find what I'm looking for 'my discussions'.

But then I realised you don't have to provide a forum. So I'm taking the moan back.
