I recently switched from my Droid X to the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon (recently, like today 12/15) and when I try and set up my google voice to be my main voicemail it says "your network carrier is currently not supported for automatic voicemail configuration"
Which is strange because it worked fine on my Droid X and Droid Original, makes me think its not as much carrier related as phone related :-/

The popular answer at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=4608b1911de66b22&hl=en describes Vertical Star Codes for Conditional Call Forwarding with SPRINT and another explanation at http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/26937 (link in this thread is not found).

VERIZON - Conditional Call Forwarding (no answer - busy transfer). Dial *71, enter 10-digit phone number, press Send and wait for confirmation beeps and message. Disabling Call Forwarding: Dial *73, press Send and wait for confirmation beeps and message.

Well here is what happened, I did that, twice, and I went to set google voice as my voice carrier and I still got the error.  I did it again and tried calling both my normal number and my google voice number and let them go to voicemail and both went to my google voice box.  I went into my google voice app on my phone and both messages were there.  Then I went into the dialer to set up google voice as my carrier again and it was already selected?  So must be something with my nexus and the voice app.  Works now.

Mine works fine now as well.  Overnight I powered down, full charge - then, went into galaxy nexus phone settings this morning and chose google voice as default vmail provider.  Seemed fine, no error like was posted by Colecago (same error I had).  Left self message from office phone, all's fine now.

I am having the same issue.  Moved from Sprint 

Do you already have Google Voice (Y/N)? Yes I was using Google Voice number ported to sprint
If so, do you have a Google number (Y/N)?  Yes had prior to Sprint Verizon Ported

For Mobile apps, what device and carrier are you using? Google Voice

So the phone worked fine for the first few hours.

1. Logged into Google Voice and removed the sprint connection 
2. Uninstalled Google voice from phone
3. Turned off  Phone
4. Removed Battery
5. Verified phone on Google Voice Account

Still can't text or recieve texts
Cant setup voicemail

webbroi Do you have the new  Galaxy Nexus Verizon  as this post originally states?

If so, did you originally port your Google number to your Sprint number and then moved that number from Sprint to Verizon?

If so, did you have SMS issues before moving to Verizon? Are you in the 48 states? Are you verifying via your computer and not using your phone's browser.

If so, can you call Sprint to remove Conditional Call Forwarding on your old Sprint line?

@papa Bear Yes I do. 

The Verizon Rep Ported the Google Voice/Sprint number to Verizon. yes.  Phone worked fine but google voice did not

I disabled Sprint in the Web interface via Google Voice Settings
Uninstalled Google Voice app on phone
Attempted to add the phone back.
Finally followed the steps to port my verizon number back to Google voice (they say it takes 3 days)
No sms issues on verizon via their network but none on GV network.  
Yes I'm in the US.
Yes I verifed via the computer 

Google Voicemail is working
Can't text from mobile app or Chrome plugin. 

I will try to call sprint and ask to remove the Conditional Call forwarding

Called Verizon and they said they currently don't support Text via google voice.  So now the coolest feature that I used while traveling abroad is now gone.  I can't text people from my browser.  

I Sense a major Mobile Disruption in the future.  Any company that can provide Data ONLY to people who would rather just choose their own applications will dominate.   Currently almost everyone else in the world have more free communication options on their mobile networks.

I am very passionate about this issue.  I'm in the industry and a HUGE fan of Google Apps, Android, and the Open web.
