|Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/13/09 1:07 PM|
I've been having this issue intermittently since last week. When I try to make an outgoing call, it tells me its calling me, but no call comes through. I've had this issue when I'm asking it to ring both both home and work lines. Sometimes closing Google Voice and reopening it fixes the issue, sometimes directing the outgoing call to my cell phone fixes is. Sometimes nothing but waiting a few minutes fixes it.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Hillsborough||4/13/09 1:19 PM|
Intermittent issues are the most difficult to diagnose and fix. Your post does not offer much detail for anyone to give suggestions on things to check or try. There are so many variables in the GV system it could be something simple or a setting instead of a bug.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||gb1||4/13/09 1:47 PM|
I am having the same problem. Unfortunately, neither can I provide more details than did brimcc: his/her description fits perfectly for my situation: there seems to be no pattern regarding occurrence and no rule regarding resolution.
The only other information that I can give is that I suffered through this on occasion on GrandCentral. Since conversion to Google Voice, it has become chronic.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/13/09 2:04 PM|
I wish I could give more detail, but that is what is so frustrating. It works fine, until it doesn't, and I'm clicking the call button over and over again to no effect.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/13/09 2:08 PM|
Outgoing calls are not working currently for me using chrome, but work using firefox. I'm running Windows XP and the latest versions of chrome and firefox.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||MattNYC||4/13/09 2:24 PM|
I am able to reproduce brimcc's problem. I can't place calls initiated via GV web interface with Chrome, but I am able to do so in Firefox. I'm on XP.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/13/09 2:29 PM|
Now after using Firefox once, it works fine on chrome. Grrrr.... Argh!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Hillsborough||4/13/09 2:31 PM|
That information helps. There are some known issues with the Chrome browser and Google Voice. I am sure it is on the list to look into the specific issues reported with the Chrome browser but it will take some time.
Issues have also been reported using Internet Explorer and Google Voice.
Firefox works well and is what I use.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jslee102||4/13/09 2:45 PM|
I'm using Firefox on an iMac. We recently converted from GC to GV. We use our cell phones quite a bit; so, this evening is my first try to make a call via this interface. I'm having the same issue as brimcc in the original posted "Question" above; however, we have never experienced this issue before using Grand Central.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||MattNYC||4/13/09 2:48 PM|
It now fails for me as well in Firefox. I had to try a couple times before it finally went through. I still haven't been successful placing any calls with Chrome. Perhaps there's a larger issue at play?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||seth.fulton||4/13/09 4:16 PM|
I'm having similar issues using Opera 9.6x on a Mac. Neither my cell phone or Gizmo SIP phone will ring when I attempt to place a call using the web interface. Sometimes this is an authentication issue where I have signed out of the gmail account my google voice number is linked too. Sometimes logging back in and placing a call using Safari does the trick. I seem to be having more problems getting my gizmo phone to ring, than my cell phone.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mjsirvine||4/13/09 4:23 PM|
I am having the same issue. When calling from the website it says it is calling me but it does not ring. On one or two ocassions I later realized that it connected to my own voice mail without ringing or allowing me to call out. Very unreliable since it became Google Voice. I never had problems as Grand Central. I am getting ready to quit if they do not fix all of the bugs.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 5:34 AM|
So far so good this morning, made 2 calls from the web interface using chrome on xp, ringing to my home number. Will post if there are any issues today.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||krazytyler||4/14/09 6:29 AM|
I am having the same issue in Firefox. I tried a few times and all of them fail.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 6:39 AM|
OK, now its failing again. Just tried to make a call 3 times with chrome, and 3 times with firefox, didn't work with any. Tried signing out and signing back in but that didn't help.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mrvco||4/14/09 6:51 AM|
Same issue here, I wish there was more "detail", but whether I click "call" and enter the number or I dial from Contacts, the box pops up and says "Calling You", my phone doesn't ring and it times out and the button goes back to "Connect". My land line is working fine when this happens.
This happens intermittently and nothing "solves" it other than waiting for a while and trying again. I have no clue how GV is architected, but It doesn't "feel like" a problem with GV itself, but more like GV is having trouble accessing the soft switch or the soft switch is having trouble accessing the PSTN.
I'm using Firefox on OS X.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||zabouti||4/14/09 7:03 AM|
I'm having the same problem on an eMac running Firefox 126.96.36.199.
I wonder if the problem has to do with the popup widgets? Sometimes the one from the "call" link next to a contact's phone number fails but the "Call" button at the top left does. (Today neither can call me).
Perhaps a little form with a regular submit button might work as a temporary workaround until this thing is figured out?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 7:24 AM|
Just got it go go thru on the 4th try using firefox. This is driving me crazy
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||dwest870||4/14/09 7:42 AM|
Did anyone ever experience this with the Grand Central site?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||raz91||4/14/09 7:44 AM|
I've had similar problems this AM. I am on Firefox 3 on Linux. Symptoms are similar: requires multiple attempts to get through (if it works at all). I have not had a problem before like this with GV. Given the fact that I am using a known working configuration (and have been for some time) I suspect that there's a service failure somewhere in the GV server system.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||dwest870||4/14/09 7:46 AM|
This is the third or fourth occurrence I've experienced since switching over from Grand Central about a month ago...
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 7:48 AM|
Same here, 3 or 4 times
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mrvco||4/14/09 8:03 AM|
Yep, spamming the button over and over until it final rings back works... eventually.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 8:10 AM|
Haven't been able to make a call for 20 min +
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||philcm3||4/14/09 8:10 AM|
same problem here, ive tried 5-6 times and cant get it to call me
using firefox and xp
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 8:22 AM|
Still not able to get outgoing calls to work, never had a problem like this with GC
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Duckduckduckquack||4/14/09 8:24 AM|
I have been having this problem too, using Firefox and XP. Can't get FF to work, Chrome won't work, but Internet Explorer now does. So I guess I'm stuck using IE for now. Ick.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 8:31 AM|
Just got one to go thru using Chrome, no rhyme or reason to it, it just worked this time.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Icanfixxit||4/14/09 8:34 AM|
If you use FF install the IE tab add-on then right click on the tab and chose 'switch rendering engine" it then makes FF act like IE for that tab. I use FF and have no problems.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Betito||4/14/09 8:36 AM|
I am having this same problem as well using IE8 and Chrome. Also, my text messages are not going thru and I can't seem to add another number to my GV account. I thought my problem was with my cell number. I had it ported from Boost Mobile ($50 unlimited plan) to T-Mobile. After the port went thru fine is when I had my problems (4/11/09 around 8:30 PM Central time) Could it be that GV "thinks" I'm still with Boost?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Icanfixxit||4/14/09 8:43 AM|
I have had and heard of too many issues with IE 8. I would not use it... But that is just my professional opinion.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Hillsborough||4/14/09 8:52 AM|
Google Voice may be actively making some changes so I would suggest that you give it some time and see if the problems are resolved in the next day or so. I have not had any problems using Firefox but I am not a heavy outbound call user so I may not be seeing it directly. A lot of issues have been reported with IE and Chrome so it may be best to use Firefox for now if you can.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||telesocial||4/14/09 8:53 AM|
I too am having trouble with outbound calls on ALL BROWSERS and with 2 PHONES.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mrvco||4/14/09 9:22 AM|
It's down completely now... I can't get a call to go through no matter how much I spam the button.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||kwhalen||4/14/09 9:28 AM|
I just got my google voice account this morning. I haven't been able to make any calls from the website. When I try to make an outgoing call, it tells me its calling me, but no call comes through. I'm at work using IE 7. I also tried from the mobile site on my iPhone, but with no luck.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||socal-paul||4/14/09 9:31 AM|
I'm having the same issue, I can't get any outbound calls to work.
From having previous telephone company experience, it almost seems like this is an issue with them running out of ports on their switching devices. There are too many connections already in-progress when you click the button, it tries to place the call, but without any available ports it fails. Changing browsers may appear to fix the problem, but it's really just the case that a port freed up and was able to be utilized.
If this is the case, if there was a more informative message stating that.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||kenjij||4/14/09 9:33 AM|
Not working for me either. This has been the case recently, not just today. On the other side, I also still have GrandCentral and it has been working great. If you still do, try give it a shot.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Harry Singh||4/14/09 9:35 AM|
I am having the same problem. It has worked for me at least 10 times over the past week, but no luck today. I have tried using Safari and Firefox on Mac. I have also tried my home and cell numbers.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jameswgvoice||4/14/09 9:39 AM|
I just tried with IE 6 and it failed. Dialing out through the VM system worked.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||dshaffer||4/14/09 9:47 AM|
ditto--I'm not able to make outgoing calls either. I've tested calls from: Contacts list, Returning recently in-coming calls, and using the home page Calling button with no luck today. These feature function as expected up to this morning
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||J.R.||4/14/09 10:04 AM|
Outgoing no worky (Gizmo & landline), incoming fine.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||DavidBG||4/14/09 10:08 AM|
I have the same issue with IE 7 and Chrome :( It was working perfect before
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||efc||4/14/09 10:53 AM|
I can't get outgoing calls to work. I am using Safari and a Mac tool called Dialectic which uses the (unofficial) API. Neither will work.
From the website I choose the Reply button from an earlier incoming call. I then choose "call" from the popup menu. I then click "Connect" with the phone to ring set up as home (this has not changed and used to work). The are next to the connect button turns blue with the message "Calling you..." but no call comes through. I have seen a red "error" message here once, but was not quick enough to transcribe it exactly.
This has been persisting through repeated efforts today. I wish Google would at least post a "status" message of some kind on the GV site so we didn't each have to individually troubleshoot things like this!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 11:08 AM|
We get what we pay for unfortunately. ;)
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||daemonx||4/14/09 11:16 AM|
Yes, from what I see here posted I'd say Outbound calling is down. For me, GC says to ADD funds when i Call out (adding free funds don't help). GV fails in a similiar way when dialing out, but doesn't say to add funds. Yes, someone is going to say you can't call from gc after upgrade to gv - but thats not the point.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Linuxpm||4/14/09 11:28 AM|
Outgoing calling is down for me too. I have tried firefox, IE and different ISPs. This is a google voice problem.
It has been down for a couple hours.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mac800||4/14/09 11:30 AM|
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||paul.mcvicker||4/14/09 11:54 AM|
I have never had the problem previously, but cannot make any calls from GoogleVoice now. No matter whic browser I use. And Google and no support for this. Can I just go back to grandcentral?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jameswgvoice||4/14/09 12:01 PM|
I'm sure Google is aware of the problem and can only assume it is a priority issue. In the meantime why don't you just make your outbound calls by calling into your number which works fine?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 12:13 PM|
How do I do that?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jameswgvoice||4/14/09 12:21 PM|
Call your GV number from a forwarded phone. If you have that phone checked in the settings, phone tab and do not have the ring schedule under the advanced settings set to not ring that phone, it should just answer and auto log in giving you menu options. Choose option 2, dial your number with area code and ending with the # sign. If your GV voice mail answers stop the recording with the * sign and complete the above.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||DavidBG||4/14/09 12:21 PM|
You are right, calling into your number works but way less convenient. I have all my contacts on the web page that I don't have memorized and no numbers need to be dial physically. But for now I haven't a choice
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jameswgvoice||4/14/09 12:28 PM|
I use the service with Alltel and am able to make calls without using my plan minutes so this method is my preferred. Those I call frequently I have the entire access string as a part of their speed dial and those I do not I just dial into the system and enter the number. I find this much easier and convenient than having to rely on a PC to use GV.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||DavidBG||4/14/09 12:30 PM|
I wonder if I can do that on my Blackberry?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||seth.fulton||4/14/09 12:41 PM|
I can confirm that outbound calling via the dial-in Google Voice menu still works. Currently I am unable to place any outbound calls using the web interface.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 1:05 PM|
That works from my cell phone but not from my land line, when i call from the land line, it just rings my cell. Weird.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||DavidBG||4/14/09 1:09 PM|
I just went through all the numbers on my blackberry and set them all up to dial my GV number first then pause then hit 2 then the number. I have no need of the GV website now. This is awesome! I
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||gdavis||4/14/09 1:12 PM|
Same problem here. Firefox and XP.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||anorphius||4/14/09 1:19 PM|
doesn't work on safari 4 for mac, firefox 3.1b3 for mac, or IE7 for windows.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Rob Perkins||4/14/09 1:20 PM|
Same here. Outbound calling through the voicemail IVR system works fine. Nothing works through the web interface, including the "call" button at the inbox and the verify phone feature.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||GetItDone||4/14/09 1:38 PM|
Hi Everyone...I found a solution that seems to have worked,... was SOOOO Pissed today when GV was not working. I use this for work...HELLO GOOGLE...nice support.. Anyway, I had the same issues, not placing calls etc...and I did notice that I could not be logged into GrandCentral and GV... and if I loghged in/out of GV it may work..but only sporadically.. SO I decided to CLEAR ALL COOKIES/CACHE from Firefox and now I can place every call without a problem. SOOO Happy!!! I hope this helps others and Google, I would appreciate a check i the mail for solving your probelms..I guess thats what we should expect with Free service :)
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||dwest870||4/14/09 1:44 PM|
clearing the cashe and cookies resolved my issue as well. Thanks!!!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||seth.fulton||4/14/09 1:53 PM|
Outgoing calls throught the web interface just started working for me again. Using Opera 9.6x on Mac 10.5.6
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||jameswgvoice||4/14/09 1:56 PM|
Working for me IE 6 also without clearing cache or cookies.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||anorphius||4/14/09 1:57 PM|
outbound calls working again without clearing cache!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mrvco||4/14/09 2:27 PM|
Seems to be working now... I did not clear my cache.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||brimcc||4/14/09 2:50 PM|
Yup, working for me too.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||mortgagesally||5/3/09 7:44 AM|
i can make outbound calls never had an issue with GV not calling me to connect the call the problem is THEY CAN'T HEAR ME ON THE OTHER END!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||ymcnyc||5/6/09 7:16 AM|
Using a computer for the first time in a few month that WAS an intensive GC computer and could not make calls with GV. Clearing the IE 7 cache DID help to now make this open to GV.
However, aside from the cache, it appears anecdotally that we as GV users are suffering from too much usage. There are a lot more dropped calls, and multiple callers complain to me about "circuits busy" and its intensifying over the past 4-6 weeks.
Personally, I find that GV is a lot easier to dial out from than GC was -- so I AM using a lot more of GV to make calls rather than my cell or just the landline at the office. If that's the case for me -- maybe everyone is using a lot more GV and therefore Google can't handle the increased traffic?
Thoughts, anyone -- are you using a lot more GV than you did GC?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||SnerdlyBosco||5/6/09 7:33 AM|
@ymcnyc: I have not seen on this forum any complaints of "circuits busy," either in the past or recently. There have been reports many other things you describe, but yours is the first of this nature.
Can you describe in more detail?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||ymcnyc||5/6/09 7:44 AM|
Apparently, in the past week, two callers (one repeatedly), tried my GV number and were prompted with the "All Circuits Busy" message. The second one tried a few times last week and once yesterday and then he called me directly on the cell yesterday. I have no idea if its related, but he is on Vonage, so want to add that through. (I don't know about the other caller)
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||agenda893||5/7/09 7:40 PM|
I'm having the problem of outgoing calls not working today for the first time. That's a beta for you...
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Hillsborough||5/7/09 7:45 PM|
agenda893: Can you be more specific about what is not working and the outgoing call method you are using?
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||Hillsborough||5/7/09 7:49 PM|
ymcnyc: All circuits busy messages should be coming from the phone network before Google Voice. If someone is calling from a POTS land line they can report it to repair for testing and notification of the party responsible for fixing the issue. Most of these errors are temporary due to high call volume or something broken like a network switch.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||kmv||5/8/09 11:48 AM|
Now outgoing calls for landline/mobile are working, but when I send the calls to Gizmo they don't work. I've seen a couple other threads about this, but this seemed to be the longest standing thread. Hopefully Gizmo support will stay, or else I won't be able to use GV!
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||hmby||5/8/09 11:55 AM|
i can't make an outgoing call from web and connect to gizmo on my side..
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||tommyent||5/14/09 9:39 AM|
My phone rings but 5 to 10 minutes later. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
|Re: Outgoing calls not working||rivalarrival||5/15/09 6:43 PM|
I've been having the same problem: unable to use either the regular or the mobile web page to place a call. The closest thing to a solution I have is to dial my own number and call out from there.
Wouldn't be too bad if I had short-codes to dial my regular contacts...
