Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! FLGuy 12/12/09 1:56 PM
Do you have already have Google Voice (Y/N)? Y
If so, do you have a Google number (Y/N)? N

Post your question or report below (please include specific details and error messages, if applicable):
How do I remove Google voice?  I signed up, created a number and activated my cell phone.  Now all calls coming into my cell phone are redirected to Google Voice.  I have another virtual phone number for my business that is forwarded to me cell phone.  I have to be able to have different greeting for different numbers coming into my cell phone.

I have deleted my cell phone number in settings....and because you must have 1 number for google voice, I entered my virtual number......now all calls business and personal - go to google voice not my phone even after I removed my cell phone from settings.  Is there not a way to delete my google voice account?  If not there is a real problem here!  How can Google control my cell phone....that is not good.......Please advise IMMEDIATELY!  If you cannot remove Google Voice....I can see lawsuits coming quickly!

FLGuy:

The problem is with your cell phone, not with Google Voice.

In Settings | Phones, DEACTIVATE Google Voice on this phone.

If that doesn't work, check with your carrier for steps to cancel "Conditional Call Forwarding."
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! FLGuy 12/12/09 2:57 PM
I have gone to - SETTINGS - REMOVED MY CELL PHONE - added my HOME phone - Activated my HOME phone - checked DO Not Disturb and still every time I call my cell phone it still goes to Google Voice.

I signed up for a Google number....Hillsborough
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! FLGuy 12/12/09 3:07 PM
For future users with this same issue, it was an issue with "CONDITIONAL CALL FORWARDING" with my carrier.  When you delete a number, you better make sure that your carrier removes the conditional call forwarding on their end!  I was the 1st Sprint customer to ever have this issue and SnerdlyBosco was 100% right he/she is the man/woman!  Awesome way to go.....Snerdly....send your 1,000,000.00 tech support bill to Sprint!  They said they would put the check in the mail!  o{O/O}o  !  LOL
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! jjcontemplation 3/9/10 1:55 AM
so did you just call sprint and they were able to remove the conditional call forwarding?  This same issue is tickng me off... was not a problem with my sprint treo -- now with the HTC pro 2, google voice has hijacked my cell -- when people call my cell, they get my google voice, how rude!
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! SnerdlyBosco 3/9/10 3:57 AM
@jjcontemplation:

The "hijack" comes as the result of an action you took to activate Google voicemail on your phone. To modify this behavior, you'll need to follow one of the two suggestions in the "best answer" above.

for Verizon I dialed *73 and hit send.
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! tsmcgrath 7/8/10 3:41 PM
My problem seems similar to this but I don't want to deactivate my mobile number from Google Voice.  I want Google Voice to forward to my mobile phone, but if I don't pick up, it should go to the Google Voice Voicemail.  However, when someone calls my mobile number directly and I don't answer, I want it to go to my mobile voice mail - not Google Voice Voicemail.  However, Google Voice seems to have hijacked my personal voicemail.  Someone calling my mobile number directly does not hear my personal voicemail message but rather my Google Voice message and their voicemail gets posted to Google Voice.  I'm sure this is a subtlety of the conditional call forwarding but I do not know how to get the behavior I'm after.  Any help?

@tsmcgrath

To send mobile number calls to carrier VM:

GV website | Settings | Voice settings | Phones | Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone

To prevent carrier VM from answering GV calls

GV website | Settings | Voice Settings | Calls, turn Call Screening ON

Also, read here:

Ok.. I have a SPRINT PHONE that I did this to... I hated it.

Called Tech Support and here is what I got

DeActivate Phone on Google Voice.

Now to cancel "Conditional Call Forwarding."

Dial *720
Dial *740
Dial *730
Dial *38

My Phone was fixed and Tech called and left message and I recieved NOrmally..

He also read me a statement sent to Sprint by Google that "At this time Google Voice is not able to be unSubscribed"  WTH really Google , This is the biggest mistake you have made, and I like your Products.

Good Luck ALL

For future reference: This illustrates a bad implementation of referential integrity (or lack thereof) on the part of GV.  I have privately escalated for them to fix this because it has a far more nasty consequence.  Hope they catch up with this.

On your part, you don't have to spend hours with your carrier('s generally clueless customer support) or even do the * sequence.  Go to Settings => Voice Settings => Phones.  By the side of your cell phone(s), there's a link "deactivate Google voicemail on this phone"  Click that before you delete your cell phone number. (This _should_ have been done by GV when you click Delete.)  If you have already deleted, you can add it back; you should now see "Activate Google voicemail on this phone".  Activate, then deactivate before redelete.

Google engineers may be algorithm geniuses.  They just need a lesson or two on real world modeling.

(This _should_ have been done by GV when you click Delete.)

In order for GV to do this, they would need access to your account and your carrier's servers. Which they do not have.

Google Voice does not activate or deactivate conditional call forwarding on your carrier's servers.  The link merely provides instructions for you to use.

FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO USE GOOGLE VOICE & ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VOICE MAIL BEING REDIRECTED TO THEIR GOOGLE VOICE MAIL HERE IS A SOLUTION... CALL T-MOBILE AND ASK THEM TO STOP THE FORWARDING OF YOUR VOICE MAIL... I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WHEN I CALLED T-MOBILE THEY FIXED THIS PROBLEM FOR ME. ALSO THE T-MOBILE TECH SAID THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, I COULD PUNCH IN THESE CODES ON MY PHONE... ##004#send key  OR   ##21#send key... HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU.
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! valleyman 7/24/10 11:43 AM
@Box7184: Thank you for pointing this out.  I was so paranoid about VM interception that I dared not click the link. The circled question mark is not helping me, either - it says "To activate: If you'd like to activate or re-add Google voicemail on your mobile phone, click Activate Google voicemail for this phone."  Does anyone else sense that this click will actually activate the feature?
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! hulio24 8/3/10 10:23 PM
i am having the same issue as  tsmcgrath above. calls to direct at&t mobile phone are leaving voicemail on google voice instead of direct mobile phone. i called at&t and they said my conditional call forwarding was not turned on so  i had to deactivate this mobile phone from google voice or disconnect google voice. weird thing is this only started happening recently and i didn't change any settings on google voice. i want to be able to use google voice again by calls to direct at&t mobile phone leave voicemail on direct at&t mobile phone or calls to google voice forwarded to at&t mobile phone leave voicemail on at&t mobile phone. any help?
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! fmdupre 8/4/10 8:12 AM
For AT&T users GAPPYAKADJTOMA is right - ##004#send key worked perfectly - Thank you!!!
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! hulio24 8/4/10 8:32 AM
fmdupre, thanks but ##004# simply deactivates phone. i want my personal mobile to be connected to google voice but to leave personal mobile voicemail when directly call personal mobile. any other help?
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! nspdx 8/5/10 3:52 PM
I have Sprint and the response from "andrew.goshen" above worked on both myself and my wife's HTC Hero's.  Thanks for posting the solution.
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! hulio24 8/5/10 4:10 PM
nspdx,

i believe "andrew.goshen" response only disables GV forwarded to sprint phone. is this what you were talking about? i did that and reconnected GV to sprint phone but sprint phone still can not call GV to retrieve GV voicemail or still gets "number no longer in service" message. any help?
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! kimmysanders 8/30/10 6:38 PM
Andrew's answer helped me with a slightly different issue--I had an old Sprint phone number that no longer belonged to me that was still forwarding through Google Voice to my new number. I had the account holder who owns that old number dial that series of four numbers on the phone in question and it finally worked and disabled the forwarding. The number in question belonged to my ex mother-in-law and I was in a hurry to get my name off. Thank you Andrew!

Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! valleyman 9/10/10 11:56 AM
After bringing the confusion to GV product management directly (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=2c9039a578c6f2e8&hl=en), Google finally added the following to instructions:
"Removing your phone from the Google Voice Settings won't prevent your voicemails from going to Google voicemail."

Good move!
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! valleyman 9/10/10 12:01 PM
Google also removed the "activate/deactivate" toggle gimmick.  Both instructions are now visible at all times, as GV has no way of knowing if "use GV voice mail" feature is enabled or not.
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! Box7184 9/11/10 6:13 AM
It hasn't been removed on my account settings.  I still have the link.

With my iPhone, (AT&T carrier) i hit the above suggested: ##004# then CALL on my iPhone. It worked, my cell is now back to normal. Sheesh!
Re: Remove Google Voice - It has Hijacked My cell Phone! msanders5 10/12/10 4:20 PM
look for your original voicemail number on your phone, then go to settings on your phone, look for the call forwarding menu and change the number thats listed in your phone to your original voicemail number.
