Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name?
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? SnerdlyBosco 8/8/09 8:31 PM
@kc0vos:

No way to re-record. You can, however, replace the recording by entering the number as a contact so that the Google system voice reads the correct name.

Google needs to make it so you can.

I agree... Google should definitely let you replace the recording IMHO... shouldn't be too hard, just delete the call from your history and its like it never happened...

I called myself from my wife's phone as a test... now I hear my voice when she calls... would prefer to hear HER voice... her voice is more soothing than mine!

Just put your wife's contact information into your GV account. You will hear the soothing voice of the Google Voice lady.  It will almost be like cheating on your wife without the guilt.  LOL

I'd like to second that request for the ability to delete the recorded name.  Someone hung up when it was recording the name, and so now, every time they call me back, I get a "Call from *click*  Would you like to pick up or transfer to voicemail?" Hahaha

I tried what you suggested SnerdlyBosco, but now, it read's my grandfather, who I call "Pa" as "Pennsylvania" :P

I'm surprised they overlooked this as an option. My wife tested my number for me and neither of us knew what to expect. Now when ever she calls all I hear is silence and a click too. =(

@Shade2074:

Did you see the solution above?
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? Shade2074 8/21/09 6:04 PM
I saw that, and it is probably what I will end up doing for now but that is not a solution, it's a work around. I'd like to hear her voice, I can't see why the system won't give me the option to allow specific numbers to request a new recording if I delete all traces of their number on my google voice page. Thank you though for trying, I do appreciate it.

@Shade2074:

Keep in mind, even if a caller were able to re-record a name, the moment you created a contact record for that phone number, the properly recorded and desired name would be replaced by the Google system voice...

I second the request to be able to clear the original recorded name. shouldn't be hard to do, just be allowed to delete it.
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? OCualain 10/12/09 7:30 AM
I've tried entering the number as a contact with the desired name in the name field and I still get the recorded undesired name. Any suggestions?
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? SnerdlyBosco 10/12/09 7:39 AM
@OCualain:

Check your Google Voice logs for an instance of when the behavior you describe occurred (Received Calls, History, etc.).

What does the call record show? Your contact's name? Or you contact's phone number?

If it's a phone number, there should be a little speaker icon and an "add" link next to the number. Try "adding" your contact there...
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? OCualain 10/12/09 8:25 AM
@SnerdlyBosco

The earliest instance I can find is in History the day after I started Google Voice, so It may not be the first instance--I've been clearing out most tests.

It showed the contact's name in bold with the phone number in gray, there was nothing that looked like a speaker and no "add" link. So I deleted the contact and went back to History and it then it showed the only the phone number with an "add" link.

I added the contact with the desired name but found that it still plays the undesired recorded name.

My chemistry lab partner called me to tell me that I left my calculator in the lab, so I hear "Call from Mike Burke, lab partner".  That's not that bad, but now when he calls ANY GV number it will say "Call from Mike Burke, lab partner" even when he isn't calling his lab partner (I tested this myself with two different GV numbers and a phone we rarely use for outbound calls).  That isn't nearly as bad as if somebody were calling his/her significant other, etc.  However, he should still be able to change this without needing a GV or Google account.
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? xtexan 1/2/10 8:20 AM
Like everyone else, I can't find a way to re-record either.

When prompted to state their name, an unrecognized caller started leaving a message, and of course was cut off after a second or two.  Now, every time someone from that company calls me, I hear the cut-off message to announce them.  I even added the caller to my contacts, but GV does not pronounce the caller's name from my contacts, it still replays the cut-off message.

Apparently, there is no way to correct this yet.

I have the same complaint. There's no real fix for this problem and the "work-around" doesn't work! I have plenty of contacts that the Google lady properly announces; but even despite having properly entered names for respective contacts, others still play the same [typically screwed up] recording from their initial call.

I have the same problem and it's not a bug - it's simply an overlooked feature that Google needs to implement / fix - pronto.

Please, Google, fix this issue immediately!

Another vote for the ability to do this!
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? Drundel 3/6/10 5:34 PM
Yes Google, this needs to be addressed.  We all have dumbass friends who don't know how to follow instructions.  And I have added them to contacts and it still doesn't say their name.
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? kc0vos 3/6/10 8:59 PM
you have a call from " Hello.... Hello... Are you there??? "  would be nice to fix this.  What will it take to get Google to fix this?
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? adamwsh 5/6/10 7:29 AM
I'm with the group above. Would be nice to be able to delete the recorded name.  I'd say at least half of the people that call me, start leaving a message instead of saying just their name.

For anyone who isn't aware, there's a new survey available to give Google your feedback:

Anyone know if this was ever implemented ?
Re: Is there a way to re-recorded the incoming callers name? Box7184 7/11/10 7:01 AM
@XDS

There is currently no way to re-record the caller's name.

I send in a message to Archer's link!
