|How do I make google voice work as my primary number on prepaid phone?||charmin66||10/20/09 1:06 PM|
I plan to purchase a T-Moble prepaid phone. How can I make my google voice line my primary number without using the minutes?
A guy that works at T-Mobile says he buys a $10 dollar card once a month and uses the GV number so that he doesnt absorb the minutes. How does this work? Will I have to have internet access on the phone? I'm very confused. Do i have to have a smart phone to run the GV application?
If I dont have internet access, will I have to call the GV phone number everytime I wanted to place a call?
When people call my GV phone number, and I accept the call, will I still be charged minutes for each phone call?
When I text someone that has texted my GV phone number, will it go through the GV phone number or the actual prepaid phone?
Thank you for your answers.

If you don't have a smart phone, then here are the answers:
If you don't have internet access, you will use up minutes when you call your GV number.
If you call your GV number, you will use up minutes for the whole duration of the call
If you accept a call on your phone, you will use up minutes for the duration of the call.
If you reply to a text from your phone, you will be charged by your phone company.
If your only phone is a cell phone, then your only choice is to use minutes to talk on the phone.
You should look into getting a Gizmo VOIP account, so that you can use a headset and microphone along with your computer when you have internet access. That way, you will be making calls over the internet, instead of using airtime.

The T-Mobile guy kinda lied to you. You might also check out Page Plus Cellular which uses the Verizon network and is cheaper than T-Mobile.

Charmin, I'm using an alltel prepaid (if you can find one, I got mine from walmart even though verizon was taking over), I pay .75/day get unlimited txt and 1 free fav number to call and receive, I set my gv to show my gv number when someone calls me and turn on call presentation so I know who's calling before I answer, and then I have my contacts on my phone to dial my gv # and auto dial my contact, so it would look like this: 123-456-7890P2-123-456-789# the P is a pause, some phones use P some use "," works great for me, I spoke an hour during the day to a family member and didn't use 1 minute of my alltel minutes (which with how I have it set up, I pay .10/min if I dial direct
if you can't get alltel, just make sure that you can set a favorite number, that way the calls are free
hope that works for ya

I'd be interested in your experience trying to get an Alltel prepaid account. As far as I know, they are no longer offered.

depends on where you live, I'm in SC, verizon didn't buy up all the areas here, so alltel is still offered in some areas, I know 3 places I can go right now and buy an alltel go phone for around $30 and set it up for alltel, but it's hit and miss, soon those won't be around once something is done with the rest of alltel that wasn't purchased by verizon
