When I try to find my site in a Google Search it doesn't come up: why?
Re: I can't find my site in Google Search Steegle 1/30/09 3:40 AM
You need to let the Google Search know your website exists: there are several ways to do this:
1.  You need to register your site's URL (web address) with Google Search - see Reference [1];
2.  You can register your site with Google Webmaster Tools - see Reference [2];
3.  You can add Google Analytics to your site - see Reference [3];
4.  The most powerful way to get into Google Search (and any other search engine) is to get other web sites related to yours to link to you.  This may not be easy but it's the most effective way to get into the search results and get a good ranking.

Added my URL using reference 1 (add your URL to Google). Google can't find it using quoted phrases from my website, or 10 keywords.

There's no guarantee that Google will index your site and if they do it may take months (one of my sites took 6 months to appear).

To get Google to find your site quicker make sure you get others to link to your site and follow the Search Engine Optimization guide from Google

Before starting with Google sites, I owned 2 other blogs on wordpress.com. Those blogs are still active and both are perfectly searchable on Google search engine. Can I use then to link to my google site?? and, how is the best way to do it???

I have tried the above and still am not registered. When I go into my site html I cannot find </head>tag I have tried to fix the tag several times but the site just throws it back saying it rejects it. Have kept trying this for several days now. Site is still not up ior findable which is really important.

@JBK5
If you're trying to verify your Google Site for Google Webmaster Tools then you need to follow the instructions I referenced above, and again below in Reference [1].

If you’re having problems, like I did, finding your Getting British Business Online (GBBO) website through the google search engine, google advises to  ‘register’ your URL with them and then to ‘verify’ your account.  It gives various options on how to verify your website.
1.        Make sure you 1st add Google Analytics to your account (Manage Website, Site Settings, General, tick box ‘enable google analytics)
2.        Then add Webmaster Tools to your account
You may already have these; just go into ‘My Accounts’ in Google Websites. They should be listed in ‘My Products’.
So then ‘Add your URL to Google’. This is fairly straightforward and shouldn’t cause too many problems. You then need to ‘Verify’ your account. GBBO don’t tell you this and it took me many hours to work out how to do this, trailing through Steegle.com and not getting anywhere.
You need the ‘Meta tag’ option and copy and paste the line from the box into your website. That’s the only way normal people like me can access your GBBO endorsed website. To find where you paste it you need to go into ‘Manage Sidebar’ at the bottom of the sidebar on your home page. This will open your ‘Manage (name of your website)’. Click on ‘Site Setting’ and ‘General’. This will open the page where you can paste the Meta Tag into a box Google Webmaster Tools Verification. Make sure you save changes. You can then ‘Verify’ your account with Google.

What do you mean by linking my web site? How do other sites do that? Are they just supposed to post a link on there blog or website?
Re: I can't find my site in Google Search Steegle 3/2/11 1:19 AM
I have written a new article on this very subject and the results I've seen so far have got Google and GBBO Sites in to the search results within a couple of weeks. - see Reference [1]

Interesting, when I search by site: http://rivertom.blogspot.com it is working.
But when I search by "toksyczni ludzie" to find specific content from my blog ( http://rivertom.blogspot.com/2013/05/toksyczni-ludzie-tl-2008-2013.html ) it does not show up in search results, but if I search "toksyczni ludzie 2008-2013" it does work.
It is because of title of this content ? "toksyczni ludzie /t/l/ 2008-2013"
Maybe I should remove a part of it and stick to the short version "toksyczni ludzie"?

I am having a similar problem, my new google site does not show up when I do a google search, but my old site does.  I recently created a new, updated version of my website using Google sites, and forwarded my custom domain to that site.  The domain was previously used for a site of the same name hosted by another web host provider. When I do a google search for the name (Oceanside Garden Club), the old website shows up, and the new site does not.  I have not taken down the old site yet--I want to make sure my new site will be found when someone does a search.  My site does show up when I do a "site" search.  I have tried the previous suggestions for getting my site found, but some do not seem to be working. For example,  when I tried to submit a sitemap, I received a message that my sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Also, I do not know of any sites that contain a link to mine. Do I need to take down my old site before the new one will show up?
 My site can be found at: http://www.oceansidegardenclub.org .  Can anyone help me?

You have not mapped your web address correctly so it will never et indexed as you have it now.

Try following the instructions in question 3 of our Google Sites FAQ to get your web address correctly mapped to your Google Site.

Once correctly mapped follow all the steps in Google Sites - Get Found in Google Search - Google Webmaster Tools

Thank you very much.  I had my domain provider add the cname, and I followed all of the steps in Google Sites - Get Found in Google Search.  My site shows up when I do a site search, but my old site still comes up in a google search and the new site does not.  Will it take time for this to happen?  Should I take down my old site?  Also, when I view my site, the same url displays for all of the pages--the page names do not show up on the url.  Could this be part of the same issue?
