|Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||pnvrey||3/11/11 11:24 PM|
Since yesterday I've been getting "Server rejected" messages on some of the images I upload to Picasa Web Albums. All of the images I upload are my own and come directly from my hard drive (therefore no licensing issues), all of them are in jpeg format and my albums are nowhere near the 1000 picture limit - what the hell is going on? The photos that are rejected seem to be completely random and I can't see a pattern. When I try to re-upload the ones that were rejected, one or two will upload but the rest remains rejected - this is extremely annoying. All other similar questions I read either had to do with Blogger (not Picasa Web Albums) or the questions are not answered. Will I get ANY support here from Google?

This is happening to me on some .mp4 videos that I am trying to upload. They were all shot on an Android.

I have encountered the same problem when uploading photos to an album. This is very frustrating!!!

Still no reply or improvement... I am sick of uploading photo 1 by 1...
Will it be fixed???
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||desire68||3/27/11 8:12 AM|
I have been trying for days, but I'm slowly running out of energy and patience. I read a dutch picasa forum in which this was mentioned that it could be solved by using another browser, like firefox or google chrome... but I use both and it hasn't solved my problem!!! Please help! I've become quite dependent of picasa albums...
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||jh2nd||3/27/11 12:11 PM|
Hi, I think I fixed it
I just had the same problem. Fir some reason it was the way photoshop save the jpg. I opened it in preview (Mac) and resaved it again as a jpeg. I then tried uploading the picture and didn't get the "Server rejected" note. So maybe try resaving it in another program & see if you get the same result. Wierd.

I am having the same problem.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Brian Rose||4/4/11 5:15 PM|
Since this is only affecting specific files, could you share a link to a sample file that won't upload via Picasa Web by uploading it to Google Docs? Also, what browser version and OS are you running?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Daithi_||4/5/11 2:09 AM|
I tried jh2nd suggestion to save the image using a different file extension (I used image preview to resave the file as a jpeg) and it solved the problem for me. This is strange as the file was already a jpeg, but it worked!
Here is a link to the file that could not upload with the "server rejected error" : https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BxdQOoYV9eHUZjYzYjU4YjEtMmRiOS00NTA0LTkzYTEtZDExYjI3NzZjNTEw&hl=en&authkey=CJnV8ZUI
Hope that helps with the debugging Brian.

Just an observation here on the filename extension. Do you think .jpeg vs .jpg would make a difference?
What would happen if you saved that same file as .jpg? Would that work?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||anoteelik||4/6/11 12:58 PM|
please see below the attached(same picture) which gave me an error message with epiphany.
Renaming the picture extension doesn't sort out the issue in my case.
if you need other details please do not hesitate to ask.

Taking your image and saving as .bmp or as .jpg using Paint-Win97 allowed me to upload successfully.
The last link you provided to Google Docs does not work.

Using my Chrome browser in Win7, I was able to upload your file IMGP2910_web_usm.jpg without any errors. It uploads ok in Firefox 4.0 as well.
Do have a clue about "epiphany" and what it is. Software on Linux?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||anoteelik||4/8/11 12:44 AM|
ephiphany is a web browser in debian based distributions like ubuntu. I use debian at the moment. I posted these details in my previous thread:
which is somehow connected to this one;
brian advised these details are helpful for this thread, therefore added them here for easier tracking. the screenshot of the error is:
(the error discussed in here)
the file added in google docs was for testing purposes, as this was the file which generated the error(in that particular browser).

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||anoteelik||4/9/11 3:05 AM|
with all due respect, fury won't help solve the issue. you are not offering any detail which would help investigate the issue: like the browser of your choice, your operating system/ some detail about the particular issue/error message or about the conditions in which this happens... you also use caps lock which in internet culture means yelling.
I checked your profile and your comment posted here:
looks like you are trying to threaten google you will move to different products if some conditions are (not) met.
I daresay this is not the way to sort out things/make things work. You are talking about free services on which you can make your own choice. If you think one product is better than another, please use it. If you discover something wrong in a product you prefer over others better trying to stay and help with information on investigation and have patience/politeness. If you decide you can't do that better going the easy way...after all, the world is full of options...

I'll jump in with a workaround/alternative method for uploading to picasa web albums
Called email upload, all you need to do is set this up in your picasa web album settings then use that email address to upload either photos as attachments or embedded in the email ...you might consider adding 4 or 5 attachments at a time (some images can be pretty big)
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||mharmless||4/9/11 8:13 AM|
I'm wondering if I should just give up on Picasa completely.
I'm using web interface only, Firefox, on Mac OS X.
As of 3 days ago, I could upload pics just fine.
The past 2 days, every pic is "server rejected". Same camera, file format (jpg), I have tons of space, WAY less than 1,000 photos, etc.
Picasa is seeming to be utterly useless. Have I missed something?
An email upload worked, but if that's the only way Picasa functions anymore, that's too cumbersome to stick with.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Brian Rose||4/11/11 4:02 PM|
We're still investigating, and I'll update this thread with more info as we make progress. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and for being patient while we work on this.

to let you now for debug purposes:
* uploading each image by email individually also doesn't work and there is no feedback on which pictures were uploaded and which failed. :-s
* uploading each image individually through a service called pixelpipe seems to work flawlessly.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||pmjoyce27||4/16/11 2:55 PM|
I also have the "Server Rejected" message on many of my photos. I do not click on the "remove" option, because I want to try them again. However, if I click OK, the system automatically removes them.
I'm a newbie, so perhaps my question is simplistic. I don't know how to identify which random photos they rejected. Other answers indicate that retrying the upload often works, but how does one identify exactly which are rejected?

(500) Error: 33 SERVER_ERROR -- Internal Server Error
I ge tthis error with a 3rd party uploader. When I try to use Firefox or Chromium the same thing happens. It looks like it is uploading the first three pictures. It has all the file names correctly in the boxes. But keeps endlessly clocking.
I clicked on the alink where it was asking about problems uploading thinking it would give me a chance to comment and it didn't. My files are NOT jpgs, but pngs. They avg between 1-2mb each in sized.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||gnubyexample||4/17/11 1:32 PM|
Just had 'Server Rejected' issue for video and resolved it okay.
My issue was with video and using Theora+Vorbis which gave me 'Server Rejected'
The solution was to rename my file to .ogv instead of .ogg
Video uploaded just fine. Picasaweb plays back the video as expected.
In my case 'Server Rejected' message was, it seems, purely because .ogg was not on the list of acceptable file extensions.
To clarify: myvideo.ogv will work okay
However: myvideo.ogg will get 'Server Rejected'
VampirePenguin: Try the .png files using googles own uploader and see if you get the same results. If you are on Debian you can also check your png files using this tool: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/pngcheck
If you are on Ubuntu then it can be found here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/pngcheck
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||inexplicable_hitec||4/18/11 11:24 AM|
I had a file named "2011-03-20 13.27.12.jpg" that used to give me this error. I renamed it to "2011_03_20 13_27_12.jpg" and it uploaded alright.
2011-03-20 13.27.12.jpg - failed
2011_03_20 13_27_12.jpg - worked
I guess a period or a hyphen in the filename is a problem. YMMV
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||pmjoyce27||4/18/11 12:59 PM|
Thanks for the info, all, particularly inexplicable_hitec.
I've only attempted to upload photos.
The only period in my filename is the period in ".jpg"
I don't use hyphens or underscores.
How can I successfully upload files without the complete filename?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Ranes Carter||4/18/11 8:44 PM|
Thought I'd add my comments to list...
Using Win 7 Home, Chrome and IE.
I have a folder containing about 250 images. The original images were taken from a digital camera and a cell phone. All 250 images were saved to a 'parent' folder. Using Ifranview, I did a batch resize to reduce the file size and saved into a different folder called "Reduced".
Using Chrome and IE, I opened picasaweb.google.com and created a new photo album. I attempted to copy all 250 images from my "Reduced" folder to picasweb. After getting the "Server Rejected" error on (too) many images, I deleted the photo album and tried again. Sometimes an image would load, sometimes it would not. I created, deleted, and recreated a photo album about 5 or 6 times in both IE and Chrome.
On one occasion, I copied the file names of about 30 images that were rejected, then went in and tried to upload those same files again. About half of those were rejected. This indicates that the exact same file may or many not upload successfully without renaming or re-saving. It seems random.
Again, sometimes a random image would load successfully, on other occasions the same file would be rejected.
From the comments above and my attempts, my assumption is this a picasaweb issue, not a file format issue. Renaming or re-saving the file might have resulted in a successful upload, but attempting to reload the original file might have worked too.
For now, I will simply wait on the great folks at Google to look into the issue and come up with a solution.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Daithi_||4/19/11 1:17 AM|
I disagree with @Ranes above, it maybe that his photos are only sometimes rejected but I can repeatable produce a server rejected error. Maybe someone else would try with the file at this link: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BxdQOoYV9eHUZjYzYjU4YjEtMmRiOS00NTA0LTkzYTEtZDExYjI3NzZjNTEw&hl=en&authkey=CJnV8ZUI
It produces the error every time for me: with Firefox/Safari on a Mac.
Solution: Save the image again using file preview on a mac with the exact same name and extension, then the error is gone.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||txrosslucas||4/19/11 8:51 PM|
My experience with Error 33 is very similar to Ranes above. I am running Windows 7 with both Chrome and IE as my browsers. I also have Picasa 3.0 locally on my machine. I have 116 .jpg images that I wanted to upload. 112 of the 116 uploaded just fine using IE. However, 4 were rejected with an error 33 message. There is no apparent pattern to the 4 that failed. I subsequently have tried uploading the remaining 4 using Chrome and Picasa 3.0 and both of those methods failed. I'm only using about 10% of my 20 GB of storage, so space should not be a problem.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||mike smith.||4/20/11 12:09 AM|
Hi Daithi ...just tested your image file....for some reason picasa or photoshop will not open this file ...Paint will ...Paint.NET will, now it's here I see a translucent effect to the image, and maybe this has something to do will this image being rejected....so maybe this file needs to be saved as something else rather than a jpeg to retain its translucency
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Daithi_||4/20/11 12:46 AM|
Thanks for having a look at the file mbscon. The translucent effect might be the issue, maybe this is why re-saving it again as a .jpeg solved the issue for that file. Saving It again must have removed the translucency.

I also got Server rejected on many jpg photos. After few retries, all uploaded sucessfuly. Being frustrated, I've tried upload with Picasa, Chrome, Opera, Firefox on XP and W7, no change. Email upload worked only for 1st photo.
Solution that helped me is Picasa Uploader, free program from
It also ocasionaly get stucked, but worked well after I've logged out from picasa web in all browsers and used only PicasaUploader.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||HotelHilde||4/22/11 1:25 AM|
Forgot to mention that Picasa Uploader can resize your photos to 800 px while uploading, so they get hosted for free. A feature that Picasa3.8 still misses.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||MikeL33||4/28/11 10:48 AM|
I'm having similar problems when trying to upload videos in particular. I uploaded several videos with no problem, but for some reason one will not load. All the videos are .mp4. The only think I can think of is that the one video that won't upload is the largest in size (1.13 GB). Is there a size restriction on the .mp4 files that can be uploaded? I have more than enough free space in Picasa so that's not the issue.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||elgazzar||5/3/11 9:23 PM|
hey there, while using picasa uploader for mac i keep getting the message "An ERROR prevented uploading from completing REJECTED_USER_LIMIT (imagename.jpg, image/jpeg)"
and when using the web based uploader i got server rejected on most of the photos, so a few of them actually uploaded.
All the images were created with Capture One as jpgs from RAWs.
Would be very helpful getting this sorted asap.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||SioW||5/4/11 10:41 PM|
I've had the same problem in the past couple of weeks - never in the past. I tried to upload a stack of photos all saved in the same folder and one day most of them rejected but would then accept when I tried one by one. So I left it a few days and then the first 3/4 accepted but a lot of the remaining 1/4 rejected and won't work trying to add them one by one. So there is no obvious pattern here. It is not the same photos being rejected each time.
All the photos are downloaded from a digital camera, edited and saved in Photoshop as JPGs. This is the same as every other photo album I've created in the past in Picasa and this has never happened before.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||csaQuestion||5/10/11 1:54 PM|
Same problem. Server rejects a wide range of images while accepting most others--can't see a pattern. Very annoying.

I'm a newbie to this forum, so please pardon me is I'm off base.
This discussion seems to be generating lots of posters who have the same question - but I'm not sure any viable solutions have been suggested.
Is this forum only for users to help others?
I would think the Picasa people would check in from time to time to see what their users are discussing - then guide them towards solving the problem - perhaps by Picasa taking some action.

I'm having the same problem today. The file in question was created by picasa print screen capture (latest picasa 3.8.0 (build 117.43,0). OS is Windows XP 32 bit, fully updated. default browser is Chrome, fully updated. in the picasa upload manager, it shows the error as...
please check that you are connected blah blah blah...
HTTP Error 500 - https://picasaweb.google.com/post?tok=XaGymc2kkbmHY1etJJoPm-nBYnQ
I saved the file I'm trying to upload in google docs as...
I've been doing this printscreencapture to picasa and upload quite a lot without a problem in the past.

using chrome 11 latest..
It seems the more pictures I upload at once the more likely it is that some will fail.
If I attempt to upload the same file multiple times, it will eventually take and work just fine.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Woodrington||5/22/11 4:50 PM|
Same problem here, unfortunately :-(
I've tried uploading via Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, Opera...
What I don't understand is that Picasa Webalbums was always so fantastic and always working perfectly. This seems to have changed into something that has become completely unworkable.
I do hope for a quick solution soon, because I still think Picasa Webalbums is the most user-friendly way of sharing photos. But please, please, PLEASE... make it work again as it used to be!!

5th of june now, and still Picasa is loading very badly, I can't even get as far as uploading!! And again tried 3 different browsers. It's not even working with Google Chrome!
What did happen to that perfect working version of Picasa that I used for a couple of years with great pleasure?? With no problems whatsoever! And why is it so difficult to place that back, now the newer version is so clearly not working?? I've always liked to use Picasa, but am now looking into other ways of getting my photos online, because there seems to be no work done to this rather big problem, I don't see any progress on this.

I just tested using 2 images only.
- Chrome browser worked ok.
- IE 9 on Windows 7 - Basic Uploader gave Server Rejected message
- IE 9 on Windows 7 (same computer) - Upload Control method = success with size option large and largest in two separate tests.
Did some more testing with new photos taken today with no edits and still failed with IE 9 on Windows 7 - Basic Uploader
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Gaddilac||6/14/11 10:54 AM|
I just came across this forum, and am also getting the server rejected issue.
I initially thought it was due to the fact that I exceeded my storage space because I ignorantly thought that with a google product I'd never need to worry about space so didn't bother resizing many of my images - my bad :)
I deleted all of the pictures from the picasa web album associated with my blog, which of course also removed the pictures from my blog, and I then resized my 1 - 2mb images down to 30 - 40kb.
I then tried to upload my smaller files back onto the blog and at first it sort of worked. If I tried to upload 20 images at a time, maybe 7 or 8 of them would work, but the rest would be rejected by the server, though if I was persistent and kept trying to upload the same rejected files, eventually after 3 or 4 tries I'd finally successfully upload them all. Though annoying, this worked up until about 110 photos, then it started to reject everything again.
I've tried several different things in the last couple of days: using different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE), going back and forth from the old to new editor, trying one file at a time, opening a new account, etc. Nothing is working - sigh....
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Gaddilac||6/14/11 10:56 AM|
One more thing - I also tried uploading the files directly into Picasa (rather than through the blog), and they're still being rejected even though Picasa says I am using 0% of my available 1024 MB
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||jpates||6/17/11 2:16 PM|
I created an image using Adobe Illustrator, then moved it into Photoshop to make a few more changes. I was having the problem of the server rejecting my image. I tried multiple browsers. I tried resaving as JPG, JPEG. I tried different formats. No luck.
What I found to work was to change the Image -> Mode from CMYK to RGB.
This did work for me. I no longer got the Server Reject message.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||gordonthree||6/17/11 5:16 PM|
I'm getting a server rejected trying to upload a 200 megapixel composite panorama image I produced from 33 still frames. The jpeg file size is about 16 meg, dimensions 44241 by 4621
I also tried uploading as a TIFF, but the upload appears to have hung up, it's been hours and its not showing finished yet.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||rat1||6/18/11 7:47 PM|
Still getting the message. Last night I uploaded 300 photos....20 were rejected. I had to write down the numbers of all the rejects then rechoose and reupload. Note this was the biggest of 3 uploads I did yesterday and all of them had server rejects.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Woodrington||6/20/11 11:41 AM|
It's not just the server rejected message.
First of all it seems difficult for the page to load properly. I use different picasa's, and they all have the same problem. The page won't load, or only half way, or comes up in a bare HTML. Sometimes I can't get to 'upload' and have to retry again... and again... and again.
When I finally get to the stage that I can make a new album and upload, then the fun starts with the 'server rejected' message.
I have tried the above with at least 3 different browsers and all seem to have the same problem.
Again, I really regret the fact that something that was working so well and was so customer friendly and a joy to use has turned into a tool that works so bad! And I wonder why it is so difficult to re-install the older, good working version. But I won't despair yet, still hoping for a solution. Sooner rather than later, I hope.

Was this problem resolved for anyone else? I am getting a HUGE error when trying to start a new album. Google 500 Internal Server Error. And If I try to upload my photos to another older album just to get them into Picassa the server rejects them! Help!
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||wander876||6/29/11 9:20 AM|
In an effort to help Google address this lingering problem I created a zip archive that contains a photo that is consistently rejected by Picasa Web regardless of the image format, size, or meta-data. Only the PNG is accepted. (PNG is a workaround solution, apparently, but the format uses much more space because it is a lossless format not appropriate for digital photos.)
I include in the archive the original .JPG as well as .gif, .tiff, .jp2, and .png plus EXIF-stripped (*s.jpg), cropped (*k.jpg) and stripped and cropped (*ks.jpg).
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||wander876||6/29/11 10:31 AM|
As a followup, just an hour after my previous post I found that I was able to successfully load all of the images! I had noticed picasa was exhibiting poor response. For example, when I edited a caption it would not take. (And there's a bug where clicking "save" twice will give the appearance the caption is saved, but it is not.) Anyway, I waited an hour, changed my browser, logged in again and tried to load the whole collection of variants. All loaded except for the jp2 and tiff. Jp2 isn't supported, so no surprise there. I don't know why the tiff was rejected. But everything else loaded.
My conclusion is that this is either a transient error, a problem with heavy load on their servers, or perhaps they're rolling out a code revision.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||dmealo||7/4/11 4:26 AM|
I started having this problem as well yesterday using Google+ to upload into my photo albums. It also appears to be affecting my mobile photo uploads using the Android Google+ app. I had to turn off instant upload because it uploads photos, has them rejected, auto retries, and was killing my battery. Picasa uploader worked for a little while and then let me share the photos over to Google+, but it is failing, too, now. Same red server rejected message. Picasa started showing this as I came near the data cap displayed in the uploader. Google+ is advertised as having unlimited uploads of photos and videos, so I am kind of perplexed as to what the issue is. In any case, I now cannot upload to Google+, Picasa, or from my phone to Google+. I've tested the photos from my wife's account, and they all will upload without issues when she is logged in. Have tried both Chrome 12 and Firefox 5 with my account, and it is the same server rejected message every time now.

This issue effects me and started happening after Google+ Android app uploaded 2000 photos to my picasa, now I can't upload via mobile or browser to picasa or throught the picasa uploader app. All ways of uploading I receive server rejected
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Florent B.||7/4/11 5:45 AM|
I have exactly the same problem since today. Got server rejection when uploading picture via google+ (though I upload 2000+ images this morning, now it is not possible)
With picasa, almost the same issue but it works picture by pictures every 3-4 minutes or more.
You should definitely tell us if there is a bandwidth limit.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||sugewhite||7/5/11 11:48 AM|
I just saw this on mashable but I don't know if this is the reason or not. They basically are dropping Picasa and making it Google photos. Here is the link.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||dmealo||7/5/11 11:52 AM|
That is known. The problem is happening both in Picasa and in Google+ directly, so it does not solve the problem unfortunately. In Picasa it will happen if you max out your allotted space. In Google+, it will happen if you upload somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 pictures. Then your Google+ account will be unable to post anything containing a picture, whether from the web interface or from the Android app. Meanwhile, Instant Upload will keep trying on your Android device and run down your battery very quickly until you disable it in settings.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||sugewhite||7/5/11 3:34 PM|
@ Former user That sucks....:( Just when I was getting people on the google+ bandwagon.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||dmealo||7/5/11 5:10 PM|
Just deleted every album uploaded to Picasa (either through Picasa or through Google+) since the Google+ release to see if it is a straight file-space issue. I tried an upload again with some reduced file size, small JPG images of about 50 KB/image average. Still getting the red "Server Rejected" message through both Google+ and Picasa.
Interestingly, Picasa is now saying that I am not using any of my storage, although I am. This is a change from this morning.
I will do another upload tomorrow to see if it starts behaving after it has had time to realize that the pictures are gone.
It would be really, really nice if someone from Google would post even a quick update on this issue. Google+ has a very good architecture, but I will not encourage people to use it until I know that it won't cause them needless frustration.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||thurmy||7/5/11 7:26 PM|
I'm having this issue post-Google+ implementation. Was uploading a lot of photos, all of a sudden maxed out my space. Then I tried to upload smaller versions of things and got Sever Rejected messages, without fail. Then I deleted a bunch of albums to free up space. Now I can upload images larger than 2048 pixels on the largest edge, which goes against my 1g allocation, but cannot upload smaller images without getting the Server Rejected message. Does not matter what format (jpg, png, etc), what EXIF data I have, what color space it uses, or what method I use (g+, picasaweb, picasa3, email, android app), all are rejected if smaller than 2048 pixels.
Please, Google, give us a sign as to when this might be fixed.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||aamojp||7/5/11 8:55 PM|
I'm having the same issue here. Was uploading pictures all weekend long at home (approximately 1000 photos) with no problem and without them counting towards my PWA quota. Then I uploaded an album this morning and it counted towards my quota, maxing me out. I also noticed that the photos from today's album did NOT get automatically resized to 2048 like the rest of my pictures did, which is probably why I maxed out today. It's probably just a small bug.
I'm really looking forward to this with a lot of pent up anticipation since I never joined FB because...well, it was FB, but let's keep in mind that this is still beta/field trial.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Woodrington||7/6/11 3:01 PM|
Again, to me, the solution is pretty simple: re-install the old, GOOD working version, so people can use Picasa with the great ease and satisfaction there was before the change. And sort out the new version behind the scenes.
Unless, ofcourse, Google don't want us to use Picasa, and this is a way to put us all off...
And I agree: a sign of life from Google on this matter would be nice, then at least we know these messages have been read.

I just tried to upload 334 items 77.2MB total and got 22 failures. This seam to be a lot less than last week, but I don't think you have the problem completely solved. The upload took about 10min from a fast corporate link.
If there was a way to retry the failed uploads, that would be helpful. I used the web browser "upload" link, firefox 3.6.18 if that makes any difference. Don't have the Picasa software.

My first attempt today to upload from iphoto on my MacBook and getting "server rejected - remove". Prior to this, I had no problem uploading photos stored on a PC that were held in a Nikon software program. I'm trying to switch over to the MacBook for everything, as my old PC is slow. Is this a Picassa problem, iphoto problem or Mac problem? I'm using Firefox. Thanks.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Woodrington||7/14/11 6:39 AM|
Uploaded some photos this morning, still difficulty opening the account in the first place, with not all the albums showing in full, well, basically not working normal.
Uploaded about 300 pics, and still about 10 got 'server rejected'. So no, the problem is still not solved, and that is a real shame.

I am experiencing this issue as well. Please continue to investigate and issue a fix soon!
Here are the basics of my upload:
- I am a google plus user but I use the picasaweb interface for upload
- My photos come from my digital camera (Casio or Panasonic models) and I resized them so they are below 2048 pixel
- I randomly get the "Server Rejected" message.
- to me it appears really random. Sometimes the same pictures will upload on the second try sometimes the "Server Rejected" message keeps repeating
- I tried to upload with the Picasa Uploader for Mac and I also experienced the issue with that
- I have also tried to remove all EXIF tags from my JPG images (because the uploader for Mac showed a cryptic error message which hinted on EXIF issues) but the situation did not change. even without EXIF tags some photos randomly cause the Server Rejected message
thanks and regards,

I am also having the same problem. Some images upload just fine, while others take the time to upload almost completely before being rejected. I am using the upload website where you just drag and drop images from your computer. I promised a friend I would put her pictures up, and now I cannot. I might have to use a different service.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||drgonzo712||7/18/11 1:54 PM|
I have not been able to upload images to Picasa or Google+ for over a week now. When I got setup with Google+ I started uploading all my old photos and stuff from the computer and using "Instant Upload" from my EVO 3D. After I set up a few albums and uploaded a lot of pics to it I started doing more. Ever since last week I have been getting "Server Rejected" messages on every photo I try to upload (no matter what album, what browser I use, no matter what computer I use)
My Instant Upload does not work from my phone very instantly either. I have the EVO 3D and I understand that the .MPO format from my 3D pics might not work, however, I have been converting them to .JPG in 2D and then manually trying to "Instant Upload" the photos after conversion. It takes for ever. It keeps pulling up the photo it is trying to upload and then goes into a loop of "RETRYING" for over an hour just to get one photo from my phone uploaded.
Also, I cannot share photos from my phone to Google+. It keeps telling me that it cannot communicate with the server and won't upload the photos. It seems like the Google servers are not liking my account right now.
Does anyone have a fix/work around or will someone from Google please update and fix this massive issue?

Rather frustrating... I selected 29 pictures, 2 in the middle said "server rejected" (which is what led me to find this thread).
Attempting to re-upload the two rejected ones worked, but now they're out of order. Only way I can find to re-order them is to re-upload all the pictures after the rejected ones. :(

I am still getting "server rejected" error messages as well. I am trying to upload via Google Plus through the website. I have tried on MacOS & Win7, on Firefox & Chrome, on a wired and wireless connection. Still errors. It seems worse today 7/21 than it was last night 7/20. Now I am getting almost 100% server rejected errors.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||drgonzo712||7/21/11 10:38 AM|
I am still getting 100% "Server Rejected" error messages. I have tried Windows XP (Firefox & IE), Windows 7 (Firefox, IE & Chrome) and a Macbook (Safari & Firefox). I am not able to upload any photos to Picasa or Google Plus. This has been going on for over a week now.
Also, my Instant Upload still takes about 100 tries per photo to upload to Google Plus. I would assume this is related to the same "Server Rejected" message.
This needs to get fixed asap. I can't share or upload anything to Picasa or Google Plus!

I am also getting this, though I noticed that suddenly all my storage was used up when I checked in Picasa.
I have only uploaded through Instant Upload on Android and via the Google+ website. So my storage space in Picasa should not have been filled up, right?
I tried to remove the last, partially, uploaded album and it did not free up any space in Picasa...

Using my Google+ account I have managed to upload several albums. However now every time I attempt to upload a new album I get "(server rejected) removed". I have plenty of available storage, in fact I purchased some more in case this was the reason.
I tried uploading the new album using my daughters Google+ account from the same PC and that worked fine, so it must be associated to my account in some way.

I'm getting 'Error: Request Failed" trying to upload a pic with Picasa (latest version) to my google account... i've only got 5.5gb used out of 21gb paid. the 'click here to view errors' just says "One or more images failed to upload:" which is remarkably useless. I retry, and it goes 'uploading: 1 of 1', goes up to 100%, and hangs for a few seconds, then says Request Failed again.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||jasonpanjun||8/4/11 5:07 PM|
Follow the step of @ErwinV, I upgraded my storage to 20GB for $5 and the problem was solved.
It should be something like "rebooting the pc" which solve the issue.
Hope Google can fix the problem permanently as soon as possible.

Having the same issue, I am uploading photos via Google + and they are definitely counting against the 1gb size limit on Picasa. I have only 3mb of space left and all 1021 mb of photos were uploaded from Google +. I tried scaling down larger pictures to be lower than the 2048x2048 resolution, but if they are larger than 3mb...Server Rejected. I hope a solution is found soon. Thanks in advance.

Another workaround that you can try:
1. Create a new Google account and don't join Google+. You should be able to upload photos here, either by Picasa or browser.
2. In Photos Settings (upper right corner), migrate all your photos to the problematic account.
That works for me.

I paid for the increased disk space about a month ago, and attempted to upload a number of photos today. This is the first time I've seen the issue 'server rejected: remove'. It applies to all the photos I'm trying to upload. Not sure I'd have the patience to do them one by one.

@brian.rose - I see there are multiple forums regarding this upload problem and many users are still having this problem for over a month now! When will this be resolved?

I have not been able to upload any photos in days by: Android, Google+, Picasa, Picasaweb via Chrome.
Basically it's rendered my Google+ and Picasaweb useless.

Now I can't find the "Migrate photo"s link in Photo Settings Privacy and Permissions tab.
Is Google removing this feature?

I have the same problem.
I can't upload any photo via picasa or google plus for 3 days.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||carns||10/2/11 7:32 PM|
I have the same problem as well. I haven't been able to upload an image since 9/25/2011.
I posted the following on the forums on 9/26, but haven't gotten any responses:
For the past couple of days, I've been uploading pictures via Google+. Last night, I started getting "Server Rejected" messages on several of my images. I've re-tried the failed images and after several attempts, about half of them have loaded, but now I can't get any images to load.
I've tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I've re-sized my images to 2048x1365. I've created a new album and tried to load images into it. At this point, nothing seems to work.
Searching Google and the forums, I see a lot of people reporting similar issues, as far back as March, but I don't see a solution. I'm posting this, hoping there is a solution and that I just missed it.
Google, please fix this or provide a work around... Thanks!

I have the same issue.
Uploaded a lot of pictures in a single day (10GB, 1600x) using Picasa for Windows.
After hitting the 10 GB limit, i got the "Server Rejected" error.
Please fix this, or at least let people know that there is a 10GB transfer cap. For me, Google+ Picasa combo is totally unusable.

Ever plan on fixing this? What part of your own policy do you not understand?
"If you've signed up for Google+
Free storage limits
Photos up to 2048 x 2048 pixels and videos up to 15 minutes won't count towards your free storage."
See that "won'"t part there Google? Fix it! It even says "You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 1024 MB." on my Picasa Web Albums. Never going to be better then Facebook till you fix this.

same problem. ive found computer restart to help in the past. however lets not be an angry mob and help google debug this issue.i mostly try to upload video files. this specific file is .mkv with ac3 for audio and h264 for video. hope that helps google. also it should be noted that the server rejects happens right away, like 2-3 seconds after trying to upload the file. that means the problem is either due to the file size or file header, which is being feeded/read to google first. im using the 20gb storage for $5 option. using firefox 7.0.1, not chrome, should also be noted. maybe picasa server is soo busy with the G+ traffic that it doesnt find the resources to upload large files? maybe theres disallowed file extensions/restrictions based on file contents/file format, restrictions that should be posted to the public. Google should be looking at the changes that took to Picasa, involving picasa last year. that seems to be the time frame. is there a file size limit? im trying to upload files 100mb+ or and as large as 1.5gb for instance. is anyone having same issue with Ubuntu/Mac not Windows systems? cmon google, that should be enough to get you started. dont lose your customers before you make new ones. 20GB for $5 to picasa is a great option.

my problem was due to the file size being over 1gb (video) i no longer receive server rejected messages
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||VictorZG||11/6/11 5:26 AM|
I confirm "___Dan___"'s situation. Over the weekend I have been uploading lots of photos, via Google+ "add more photos" link. Now I get "Server Rejected" error, so I counted how much I uploaded over the weekend -- 9.99 GB.
So I guess 10 GB upload is some kind of limit. When will it be lifted?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||maniac_2k||11/6/11 6:08 AM|
This fits the experience I have made. After an upload orgy of several gigabytes, I kept getting the "server rejected" error for several weeks. However, After I've put aside this issue and trying again a couple of weeks later, it suddenly worked again.
So maybe this limit is reset after a certain time period. I can't say for sure, but it has been at least 4 weeks that I have been avoided uploading attempts.
Maybe worth trying for those of you that have reached a certain level of frustration.
However, if this issue IS a deliberate limit on Google's servers, they ought to make it public at some point. Not doing so just frustrates all of their users running into it.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||VictorZG||11/7/11 4:01 AM|
You got the "server rejected" error for several weeks?! A few weeks of lock-out from uploading because of measly 10 GB upload?
I am really disappointed by that.
Can a Google employee answer how long exactly is this limit going to last and can it be lowered (timewise) or enlarged (GB-wise)?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||FedeC||11/12/11 10:16 AM|
I'm getting the same error when trying to upload to google+
Also, do you know why picasa uploader only uploads for free if its 800px, but the web uploader will do 1600px? Whatś the reason?

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||clockworld||11/13/11 10:24 AM|
I get the same problem and it is really confusing as to why Picasa decides to reject certain photographs. All of the pictures I took myself, there no people on these pictures, just ocean waves or buildings. I have to say that this is a very annoying problem. I understand this is a free product and I can just choose not to use it. But should Google try to give users a product that they want to use? I would really hate to see the same attitude propagate to other Google services.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||d3vlabs||11/13/11 10:36 AM|
@clockworld check for "800px, but the web uploader will do 1600px" also check file size. i think theres probably a 5mb per picture or so. i dont think theres a content restriction filter in place that can recognize whats being shown and reject it on that basis.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||clockworld||11/13/11 1:24 PM|
Thanks for the quick answer. All my pictures are less than 3.5MB. I have tried re-uploading with a Picasa application (instead of using the Picasa website) and it worked for all pictures.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||FedeC||11/13/11 1:48 PM|
But the app will work only with 800px, correct?
While the webuploader will do 1600px

I tried uploading an album via the context menu in right click on 'album name', in 'Albums', 'Upload to Picasa Web Albums...', then clicked on the 'Upload' button in the 'Upload to Picasa Web Albums' dialog box, and am then presented with the 'Upload Manager' dialog box which reports "Upload failed'. What next - any ideas?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||catapanoa||11/25/11 1:11 AM|
If I upload by browser I receive "Server rejected", if I upload by Picasa I receive "Error: 17 REJECTED_USER_LIMIT" but have not exceeded any limits, all images was 2048x2048 and album is almost empty.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||d3vlabs||11/25/11 1:55 PM|
Error: 17 REJECTED_USER_LIMIT" - might be an account problem? have u tried with another account if possible
have your checked your overall storage, theres a green bar on the right side of web albums
2048x2048 might be too steep. try reducing one image to 1600x , upload, let me know if that works.
try restarting your computer. try restarting picasa
upload failed is actually kinda normal from time to time. expect few uploads to fail if out of 100
try uploading the same album via web interface u might be able to get more debug information then just upload failed
try uploading files one by one before albums, maybe theres a bad egg in the album like an incorrect extension, 10mb picture or something crazy on the resolution like 3000x.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||ciaconne||11/26/11 4:17 PM|
I am here to find solutions to this problem, as in the past few days, the "server rejected" went from occasionally to always happening to my Google+ uploads. Now I can't upload ANY photos because ALL of them will get this message. I tried different browsers, cleared browsing history, etc. to no avail. I can't get personal help on this either (is that even possible?).
As it is the holiday season where there are tons of photos to be shared, this is intensely frustrating.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||d3vlabs||11/26/11 4:52 PM|
@ciaconne - I can't get personal help on this either (is that even possible?). not sure
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||catapanoa||11/28/11 12:44 AM|
With another account all is OK, same photo was uploaded correctly.
The green bar (in my account) is green (0% space used) all photo that I've already uploaded (without errors) was 2048x2048 so are not counted in space used as google say.
However I try to upload reduced size of 1600x1600, 500x500 and same result (rejected).

Just observed this problem for the first time. Was able to upload two days ago. Now nothing will go. Using Picasa 3.8.0 Build 117.43, 0 Under Windows 7.
And, yes, I am connected to the internet.

Same problem for the past 2-3 days. Tried using both online uploader and both Windows and Mac versions of Picasa. It worked sometimes for some photos. But most often, everything's rejected. I even tried a brand new account. It worked for about 3 batches, before the problem appeared again.
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||ciaconne||11/29/11 10:04 PM|
@3dvlabs: i don't think it is. at least it's not provided on the google help pages. it tells me to use the feedback system (gears icon and send feedback).
ironically, feedback system can't be activated with the upload dialog open.. (one of the many idiosyncrasies with google+). so all i could do was try to upload a photo in streams update and highlight the upload error.. sigh.
also my problem is persistent and all-encompassing--ALL my photos and videos uploads are rejected, doesn't matter what resolution, which camera, whatever--it just doesn't work. And no I haven't run out of picasa space either (not to mention G+ photos should be resized to be free).
this is a pretty glaring issue, and I have to wonder why google can leave it unsolved for so long.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||PParth||12/12/11 10:00 PM|
I was having the same problem and then it seemed to have been fixed for a while and now its back!
Google you really need to get this fixed. This is not looking good at all.
The odd thing is that if I wait a few days then it will let me upload a few photos and then start generating "server rejected" error for the rest. The longer I wait between my "server rejected" errors the more photos I can upload before encoutering the error. It's like it's accumulating some kind of an allowance quota.
Although I can't upload anything in acceptable numebers. Allows me about 10 or so photos before starts generating "server rejcted" error. After that no matter how much I try it will keep giving server rejected error. Wait a few days and the whole thing starts from scratch by allowing me to upload first so many photos and then generating errors again.

Could Mr. Rose (or anybody else from Google) pleeeeeeease give us a status update!
I mean, I don't expect Google to wave its magic wand and boof, the problem is gone, but come on guys, this thread was started in MARCH, now we are in the middle of DECEMBER, and still no solution whatsoever in sight!!!
Sure, Google is a (mostly) free service, but even for free services customer support should not be as painfully slow as this!!!

I'm getting the server rejected message when uploading some 1080p HD videos shot with my Canon Rebel T2i. The videos getting rejected tend to be the ones over 1GB in size. I thought the only limitation on video size was the length of the video, not the file size?
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||mike smith.||12/28/11 2:35 AM|
@buckeyHonk Size matters, but yes over 1GB in size is over the limit http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&lev=answer&cbid=dimzar3tkdn&answer=55990&src=cb
Maybe consider trimming your video or chop it into two videos, Part 1 and Part 2 'The Sequel'
|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||almira0815||12/28/11 7:20 AM|
Update from me: I also experiencing what PParth described. If I wait some time after getting the "Rejected"-message, I can upload pics again, but after I while it comes back.
For example: Uploaded a couple hundred pics via G+, got the "Rejected" and couldn't upload any pic, no matter format, size, album, whatever. Then waited 5-6 days and tried again. No problem, no rejection, even though I uploaded a couple hundred pics more! But now that wicked little red box is back again.
It indeed seems to be like a quota kind of thing. Interestingly though I can still upload videos without problem.
It's pretty pathetic that at Google no one seems to care about this. At least give us a "Cool it, we're working on it!". Or if there really is a quota, then make it public!!!

Two weeks and no uploads to picasa site, if this is not resolved I will uninstall picasa which seems to have a one way street of functionality, so far I don't see any support going on, just a lot of collected data.

I have the same problem. Since last week, I cannot upload any photos due to "Server rejected" messages in Google+ Photos web uploader. Before that, everything worked like a charm (even photos bigger than 2048px were re-sized automatically after their upload). So the problem is still here.

|Re: Why do I get "Server rejected" messages when I try to upload my pictures?||Brian Rose||1/20/12 9:21 AM|
Hi everyone, thanks for your kindly emails. :-) The original issue reported here should have been resolved in July 2011, but our team has created additional confusion because Picasa uses a generic "Server rejected" error message rather than a more specific error code. There are limits to both filesizes per video (up to 1 GB) and to the number of bytes you upload to your Google account in a certain timeframe. I can't provide exact details about those limits because they help us address abuse, but the more recent reports I see in this thread look more like what is reported at https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/d/topic/picasa/5OVjFio8k54/discussion
That's also a long thread, so to summarize:
We're constantly monitoring how many people hit these server errors and making tweaks to improve the experience for people who regularly share many photos or videos. Since this thread no longer addresses the original issue reported, I'll lock this discussion to new replies but you can continue discussing this on the thread I linked to above at https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/d/topic/picasa/5OVjFio8k54/discussion, thanks.
