|How to restore Picasa backup?||jworth||7/7/10 9:10 PM|
I am trying to use Picasa backup to consolidate photo collections stored on multiple computers. Using Picasa backup, I've saved all of the collections onto one external drive. I don't see how to "restore" the consolidated collection onto one machine, though. I understand that there is supposed to be a PicasaRestore.exe file located somewhere on the external backup drive, but I can't find it (there don't seem to be any .exe files located in the PicasaRestore.app directory, which is where I would expect it to be located). If someone could please point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Thanks.

Look for the file PicasaRestore , don't worry about not seeing "exe". You obviously have the option set on your computer configuration to hide the file types.
Just click on that file and the restore process will commence.

Click here : http://lh4.ggpht.com/_eE7e9DP8kZU/TDVT1Ib6oFI/AAAAAAAAB6U/lknci4tgzMM/s128/Restore.JPG
The restore file is the bottom one. No problem if has .exe or not.

Thanks. Strangely, I don't seem to have a PicasaRestore file at all -- my backup drive has the subdirectories in your screenshot, but doesn't have the two loose files (PicasaManifest and PicasaRestore) that appear at the root level of your screenshot. Could I have mis-set a setting when I made the backups in the first place? Can PicasaRestore be copied to the drive manually?

You can copy your backup files to your consolidated machine manually if you can't find that restore program. The restore program is portable, so if you can fine one lying around. I don't know of anyplace from within Picasa that you can copy from.

jworth, maybe try to do another backup. You will need to create a "New Set". I have not seen your problem before.
Are you using the latest version of Picasa - Version 3.6 (Build 105.67) ?

New backups did the trick. Not sure what was wrong before, although this time around I created a separate backup folder for each of the machines whose photos I'm consolidating. Thanks for your help.

I have made a back up & I'm trying to restore it on a different computer
I'm running Mint9[Ubuntu 10.04] on both
I see the restore exe
