Any ideas?

This is something that happens to me also. Reinstaling version 2 again now.

Try re-installing QuickTime Player.  This worked for me.

The solution, and it seems to work for some users, is to make sure there are no non-English characters in the file path containing the mov file.

If there are move it elsewhere to a different folder without any non-English characters  ( and make sure that Picasa scans this folder) and it should hopefully now work .

Hi, may be Im late but its easy to solve this, you dont have to revert back to Picasa 2!
Just go to Tool ~ Options ~ File types and check the "quick Time(Mov)" Box and Picasa will immediately check your disc for all those files ;))

I donno why Picasa does not send it preselected, considering Digital cams like KODAK used this format!

Also now this is my problem: MOV movies can be played alright in Picasa 3 but THEY CANT BE EDITED LIKE OTHER VIDEO TYPES!! I want this fixed !

aristotole,
Thanks for the reply but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Same problem. I have QuickTime updated to 7.5.5, no non-English character at folder names, "MOV files" box properly checked, and also all my MOV files were displayed smoothly before updating from Picasa 2 to 3. So I think it's simply a bug of Picasa 3. Is there any place to report bugs to Google guys?
Re: Cannot view quicktime movies on Picasa 3 OzNinja 1/6/09 12:28 PM
A post from a Google employee in an earlier thread says that bugs can only be reported on this forum.

Google does not have a place where it requests reports about bugs with Picasa.  Put it in a new thread with something  in the subject like  - Bug Report - Ongoing Mov files problem

Then expand a little in the post - keep it short and to the point.

Hopefully it will be taken note of. At this stage it certainly seems to be an ongoing problem for many users.

Thank you. I will do so.
Re: Cannot view quicktime movies on Picasa 3 pacorramos 1/7/09 12:47 AM
Ooops! I'm not absolutely sure, but it seems finally the issue has to do with non-English characters at the folder names. I've just remembered that I had all my video files in several subolders without non-Enlish characters, but all of them were in a main folder that I called "Vídeos" (written in Spanish, with an accent on the "i"), so the file path did contain in fact a non-English character. So I've just changed the folder name to "Videos" (without any accent), and surprisingly it seems I can see my MOV files now.
Could you tell me if it works for all of you?
(Yet I still think it's a bug, so I will report it to Google)

Yes, it does work.

Thank you, OzNinja. I just forgot to mention that you had already provided the solution.

Finally I've posted a reply extending a previous bug report:

I hope it will be useful.

I had same problem with folder names in czech diacritics. Though all worked AOK in Picasa 2 and when i upgrated Pi 3 i didn't show. I fixed the problem by renaming the folder names with latin characters.

My problem is that the "quicktime" checkbox in options is greyed-out.  Using Picasa 3 on Win7

I have the same problem: no way to check the "Quicktime Movies (.MOV)" box, it is faded out!
And there are only english characters in the path. I am on XP Pro v.2002.

This is a guess, but:

Recently Video, Rescan, Shut Down and Import Error issues have been caused by video files that Picasa cannot successfully process.  But it not a Picasa problem.  It is apparently caused by this Picasa version requiring the use of the latest versions of WMP11 and/or Quicktime7.  Here are the download sites for Quicktime7 and WMP11, which should correct your problems:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

Let us know how you make out.

I followed Aristotle's suggestion (see 1/1/09) but the box to click on MOV is gray and doesn't let me check it.  I still can't view the MOV Videos on Picasa.  I bought a new camera and QuickTime is the only program that works with it.  It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25!!!  HELP!!!
Re: Cannot view quicktime movies on Picasa 3 AliVil 7/4/09 9:19 PM
THANK YOU CKH!!! I downloaded the files and IT WORKS!  Sorry I didn't read down the list before posting my previous message.  Thanks so much.

CKH, I upgraded to MS media player 11, and I already have Quicktime 7, and the multiple issues with Import, and video file format are corrected! Thanks.

Note that if Apple quick time is not installed, the Tool - Options - File types "Quicktime movies (.MOV) are greyed out, even if VLC player is installed. This is a problem from the picasa developers. I avoid installing the Quicktime program as it significantly drags resources, and spams up the machine. Sad that the installation of VLC player does not allow picasa to run MOVs.
Once you installed the latest version of quicktime, it should work.
