|Unable to add music from an mp3 file to my slideshow. Can this be done for Picasa Web Albums?||Steve J F||1/22/10 2:12 AM|
I would really like to be able to add a "soundtrack" to my Picasa Web Album slideshows. I'm following all of the directions, but mp3 files when chosen show up "grayed out" and hence unusable. Someone suggested a workaround of converting the mp3's to WMA's -- but I have a Mac and don't know how to do this. Besides, it says in GOOGLE'S tutorial that I should be able to use an mp3. It's frustrating to encounter this glitch right off the bat. Adding music to my slideshows was a main reason for choosing Picasa! Please let me know in detail if and how I can accomplish this.

Music can't play in a Web Album; it will only play in the slideshow on your computer. Do you mean you can't choose an mp3 when editing the Album Description and browsing for music to use in the Slideshow and Movie presentation? I tested this in a new album, and mp3's were selectable and played during the slideshow presentation. Where are you trying to select the music?

Thank you for your reply! Too bad that music won't play in a web album -- that's what I thought it would be able to do, so that's disappointing.
As far as choosing music to play while watching on the computer, I followed the Google Help directions for Mac: Picasa > Preferences > Slideshow > Browse -- and all of the mp3 files on my desktop are "grayed out" so they can't be selected. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing them.
I wonder why Google couldn't come up with a way so that music could play in a Web Album.....?!
I did figure out how to create a movie and put a soundtrack on it -- but the resolution isn't very good. Is that your experience?

The "Picasa > Preferences > Slideshow > Browse" is for selecting a folder of music tracks, which is why all the specific mp3 files are grayed out. To choose a specific file for a particular album, right click the album and select Edit Album Description. There you can select a specific music file for playback during that album's slideshow.
When you chose to create your movie, what dimensions did you choose?

Yes indeed, that worked to right click album and select "Edit FOLDER Description"! I didn't see that info anywhere in the Help section. The dimensions I used for creating a movie are 640 X 480 pixels. Please tell me what settings you think are optimal -- and please be as specific as possible as far as how to implement it. It may be "beyond a why" -- but I wonder why no music for the web albums? That would be a grand touch of elegance!! Thanks for your help! Steve

The optimal resolution depends upon how you plan on displaying the movie. Are you going to watch it on your computer (what is your screen resolution set at? System Preferences -> Displays) or someone else's with a larger/smaller screen? Do you plan on watching it full screen? Choosing higher dimensions will usually create a video that looks better on higher resolution screens, but it also depends upon the original dimensions of the images you are using to make the movie, since very small photos when blown up in a high-resolution movie will look very blurry and grainy.
I wonder if no music for online albums has to do with possible copyright issues.
