Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! David Hammel 9/26/13 12:14 PM
Folks,

Since the introduction of 4.3 by Google a large number of users are experiencing GSM radio restarts and battery drain (amongst other issues). This issue manifests itself by randomly rebooting the GSM radio, after which the phone asks you for your SIM pincode again (unless you're not using a SIM pin). This is annoying to say the least; there is no notification this has happend and you can easily be out of service for a few hours. Basic functionality of a phone, ie being able to make and receive calls is severely hampered by this bug.

Not all users experience the issue and it has been pinpointed to user that use so called MVNO providers; like Tele2 in the Netherlands, O2 in several other country's and so forth. In the android issuetracker there is a substantial amount of users complaining about this, even one of the android devs has been posting about possible solutions to the issue.. but..

GOOGLE IS NOT TAKING THE ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND DISREGARDS IT AS 'MINOR' AND 'ONLY AFFECTING A SMALL GROUP OF USERS'

Well - considering that here in the Netherlands alone the number of MVNO subscribers makes up more than half of all the subscriptions there is a potentially large group of N4 users that is being hit by this bug. As for 'minor'  issue; not being able to get ANY calls is no minor issue considering we are talking about a phone here ladies and gentleman of Google inc.

(the issue tracker can be found here https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58317 whereas the internal bug number is 10183577)

Now, my biggest gripes are that Google seems to be completely ignoring the issue since there is a fix that is allready available in the AOSP builds, so rolling out a minor update shouldn't be to difficult. And there seems to be NO support from Google for ANY nexus device when you live in the Netherlands... or any other country that doesn't have the Nexus devices available through the Play Store. None.. no phone number, no email, nothing...

So the big question is - how do we (all N4 users that have this issue) get Google's attention and AT LEAST get some sort of statement of awareness... ofcourse ultimately we need a fix, but some sort of confirmation is the least we deserve as paying customers.

Please share your thoughts in this thread, post here if you have the same issue as mentioned in the issue tracker, or help us in any way you can to get this moving forward!

Kind regards,

David

This issue has been a nightmare. I'm on t-mobile in the UK who have their own network but share with orange as well. My phone reboots several times a day leaving it on the sim lock screen. My wife cannot reliably get in touch.

Ironically I bought a Google product so I would get updates etc. And I'm now in the laughable position of having been screwed by the very updates I was after and Google are not issuing an update to fix it!

I've recommended this phone to so many people who I've now had to tell not to update. This is really embarrassing.

Google please issue a fix for this asap!

Same here.

This is a serious issue: My phone loses singnal randomly, which means I cannot receive or place calls. I need to re-enter my pin about 14 times a day. Battery lasts about 20 to 16 hours with average to low phone usage. This has been going on for about two months now. Please fix this.

I'm experiencing the same problem with Tele2 in the Netherlands. Google, you would make me very happy by fixing this :-) Besides that, the N4 is an awesome phone and lives up to my expectations, except for this radio issue.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Renan Raoul 9/26/13 1:01 PM
Hello,

Same issue here on French provider Free Mobile.
Got this since 4.3 upgrade.
Even after a complete clean installation with build JWR66Y same issue.
A partial workaround will be to use 4.2.2 radio but this cannot be a real fix and it's not working for everyone.

So please Google provide us an update, Nexus 4 is not an end of support product!

Thanks.
Kind regards,

Same again here in the UK using the MVNO called Ovivo (on the Vodafone network). On 4.3 it drops the signal and fails to reconnect automatically - makes the phone useless in any area without excellent indoor coverage (when it doesn't drop out). Now waiting for a replacement N4 and will leave it on 4.2 until this issue is resolved.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Bob Aylmer 9/26/13 4:13 PM
To Paul (Google employee). What exactly does Completed mean? Does it mean it's been taken off a faults list for attention by someone / team, or something else? If so, how long has it been on that 'faults' list? What is the time frame for a) looking at the fault and b) actually fixing it and getting it out in the wild? How far up on the priority list is it? Keep in mind that the people reporting these problems are only the tip of an iceberg. There would be many, many more out there putting up with the problem and thinking it's their provider, not realising the problem is in their hand! It appears you have some access to the software gurus, so a little insight would be nice Thank you, Bob.

Hi Paul (@Google),

Appreciate your input, but please elaborate further on 'working on it' as this issue has been raised by the end of july and few days later a solution has allready been proposed by the AOSP team. That, to me, seems to be a quick fix for an interim solution to our problem, before Kit Kat or any other final solution is released. We are now more than two months into this hell...

I downgraded my phone a couple days ago to 4.2.2, went well till yesterday, when batterydrain started again..
Ive looked to some battery apps and it seems my phone doesnt go in to deep sleep anymore and cpu remains active.
I dont have any other apps than when my phone just worked (on a different provider) so that couldnt be the battery drain.
Android OS uses 35% of the battery while it was always the screen that did the battery consumption.

Please fix this google!

Note that this applies to users not using SIM PIN as well.

I am running an AT&T SIM card and I have to use Airplane Mode at least 5-6 times a day while at work. I also have random crashing at home with WiFi on when I unlock the phone.

If it matters, my phone is bootloader unlocked w/ CWM and root. I have already tried multiple radios from previous releases and none solve the problem.

Please fix this as it is very annoying when you don't get email notifications on time because there is no data coming in.

+1 for me, huge issues with 4.3 that practically bricked my phone and ended up with me having to manually roll back to 4.2 after no fix was forthcoming from the source (google). Still having issues getting the phone to connect and stay connected to my home wifi. The 4.3 update is now waiting in the wings on my phone but I'm not going to run it again until I can be sure this issue has been dealt with.

All,

Thanks for your reactions!

One of my other issues is not being able to contact Google directly. @Paul (Google employee), is there really no way other than this forum to contact Google for issue's/support? Anybody else who doesn't live in a 'Google supported' country has something to add to this?

Brand new Nexus4, less old than a month, the device keeps rebooting since more than a week,
deleting all personal data, Contacts, Calendars, calls' history, …
I need to proceed the retart with Pin code for the SIM card.
Huge battery drain the phone can't stand an average use of 10 hours/ day maximum.
I will be refunded.

PS: a friend was working for LG previously.
she points out if my device was LG made,
and then declare "LG got several consumer electronics working fine,
but they always got severe issues with mobile conception".
they are overwhelmed with claims regarding their LG mobiles, any of them in general.

+2 for me, because Google replaced my phone, regarding to the SIM PIN / Radio issue, a few days ago. It's a good point that Google accepts to replace the phone, but the support team seems not to be aware that this issue is a software issue, because the problem is still there on my second Nexus 4. Radio crashes several times and sometimes the phone asks me for the SIM PIN code.

- With 4.2.2, Radio crashes.
- With 4.3, radio crashes and asks for PIN

Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Ian Greenaway 9/30/13 4:06 AM
As an update to my previous post, I have noticed that the reported WiFi problem seems only to occur when Bluetooth is enabled. I experienced only problems with the mobile network dropping out until I enabled bluetooth, then the WiFi started playing up as well. Turned off bluetooth and WiFi is OK again, so perhaps there's a link? New phone arrived today from Google Play, so let's see if a plain vanilla 4.2 installation of Android is without these problems (didn't want to flash the phone back to 4.2 myself - not brave enough!).
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! HCB1111 9/30/13 5:06 AM
I had the same problem with 4.3 in Canada. I have now flashed the phone back to 4.2.

If Google is ignoring the issue and the phone is less than a year old perhaps it should be returned for a refund. Or we start a class-action lawsuit. Fundamentally a phone should work as a phone, there is no excuse for releasing software for a consumer device that prevents it being used for it's primary function.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! d0rift 9/30/13 5:10 AM

Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Ian Greenaway 9/30/13 5:18 AM
No, they authorised my credit card for the full replacement cost, but I have 30 days (I think) to return the old Nexus 4. Too busy to open the new one yet though!
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Paul Bellamy 9/30/13 5:22 AM
This is pretty crazy. Software issues aside, my Nexus 4 definitely had a faulty battery when I got it, which swelled up and cracked the back screen, at which point I was told by LG it was no longer covered by the warranty because the back glass was cracked. Even though it was the battery that caused the crack. Figure that one out. LG score enormously negative points for their lack of customer service. While this was going on I upgraded to 4.3, which almost completely bricked the phone (I couldn't reliably make calls, text or use the internet, and it would shut itself down without any warning at all).

I took it upon myself to buy a new battery and fit it, and completely factory reset the phone back to the 4.2 that it shipped with. Since then it's been OK - it still doesn't want to connect to my home wifi by itself (takes multiple attempts, turning the wifi on and off, before it picks up the router and connects). But generally it's much better than it was.

For google to be sending out replacement devices must be costing a fortune and is almost an admission that there was a problem with a batch of handsets that went out, of which mine (and probably many other people on this thread) must have been one.

As a result of all this I have an extremely weird relationship with my N4. I love the screen, I love stock android, but I no longer have any regard for the handset manufacturer (LG) or trust in the software supplier (Google, who have been UTTERLY NEGLIGENT in regard to the 4.3 fiasco). Pushing forward with press releases about the next Android release and completely ignoring the growing population of users that have been affected by the 4.3 software problems is appalling. At least when Apple had problems with the iPhone 4 they had the good grace to admit it and deal with it, and as a result they still have a massive base of happy loyal customers. This isn't meant to turn into a tedious apple/android discussion, I'm just hugely disappointed with Google and I expect most people that have issued a complaint/reported a problem on this page are as well.

Another update... I have now begun using the replacement Nexus 4 sent from Google Play. This is running 4.2.2 and although radio reception is perhaps not quite as good as other phones that I've had (in terms of signal strength in the house), I am not experiencing any of the problems that I raised with 4.3. My suggestion would be for anyone who purchased their N4 from Google Play to hassle them to replace it for you under the terms of your warranty, on the grounds that having upgraded to 4.3, the phone is no longer "fit for purpose". Good luck

I have been experiencing this issue! I live in B.C. Canada and am on the Fido network. I completely lose my signal, and then my phone shuts down immediately with no warning (at full battery). When I plug it in to charge, it shows 0% and charging. This is very frustrating because I just signed a new contract three months ago and am unable to purchase a new phone. As a single mother, not having phone service is also a huge safety concern! If Google is unwilling to fix this issue, we should start a class-action lawsuit. Anyone know of any way to get back to 4.2.2??
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! BnB 10/12/13 2:28 PM
Consider yourselves lucky if all 4.3 did was ruin your radio reception.

4.3 bricked my entire phone. I know because the phone was working fine for months until I downloaded the 'update'.
Thirty seconds later, and without me touching anything or doing anything my phone has a 'dead' android icon and
  I can't even get to the touchscreen page. Just hung up on the start-up screen forever. No matter what.

Even after cache wipe and etc.

So, I finally found and called their customer service...

As opposed to helping me, or *gasp* apologizing,
Google cs has insinuated that A) I stole the phone.
B) that the update wasn't the cause of the malfunction
and
C) that I rooted the phone.

All three insinuations totally uncalled for, false, desperate and salt in the wound of a paying customer.

It's been 3 days, and half a dozen hours on my wife's phone, I'm still waiting for an email linking me to a replacement.
Still not happy as I was promised a replacement the first day, and all I got was another email, from a totally different rep,
 telling me they couldn't find my account. (((facepalm)))

~~~~~~~~~NOTE~~~~~~~~
Keep *GOOD* records when you call their customer service, as they don't record
and won't remember any promises they make to you from one call to the next and
their emails are so vague as to be worthless as record or receipt for future reference.
Good luck! You'll need it.
Woo Hoo, Google! You suck.
Dear All,
After the android 4.3 update (Build-nr JWR66Y) i've also expecienced the familiar extreme battery drain and network loss issues. So extreme that I can't even use my phone without any trouble for a couple of hours straight. Because I also use my Nexus 4 for bussiness this is very troublesome. I live in the Netherlands and have a simcard from Telfort. (I believe Telfort is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator what could be related to the issue).
I urge Google to fix this issue as soon as possible!
Has anyone found a workable solution untill Google fixes this or is anyone aware when this issue will be solved?
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Sébastien Sablé 10/15/13 3:04 AM
They provide a workaround for part of the issue on this website:
Tthe phone does not ask for the PIN number so often anymore but I keep loosing signal after a phone conversation or randomly and there is still battery drain.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Bernhard Preis 10/16/13 2:50 AM
Similar issue here. Phone completely drops all connections, shows a "Carrier unavailable" message and asks for PIN each time I enable data connections, and sometimes completely at random even with data connections disabled. No battery drain issue.
Tried 2 different SIM cards from the same (virtual) operator, problem is reproducable. When trying a SIM from a different carrier (completely other network), data connections work.
I had Android 4.3 for a while now and everything was working fine. Did not update or change anything for a few days before the problem hit me.
Bug seems to be related to the Radio Interface Layer (RIL) and somehow linked to virtual operators (MVNO).
Please roll out the fix as soon as possible!
I bought a Nexus 4 two weeks ago.
Great phone, but this bug makes it absolutely useless.
I'm returning it this weekend and i'm bying a different phone, no Nexus for me anymore!
Such a shame that Google isn't fixing this.
The point of having a phone is that people can contact you.
Now you have to look at your phone every 10 minutes to make sure it is not asking for you pincode.
Thanks for nothing Google!
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! mr_star 10/19/13 12:58 PM
I experience all these problems. For me the most frustrating are the massive battery drain and the poor signal after the upgrade to 4.3.
People can't call me, I can't connect to the internet, and if I'm lucky, there's a few % battery left in the evening.
My phone is pretty useless now...
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Jordan Settlemyre 11/1/13 5:32 PM
Decided to upgrade my n4 today, to see if I could get kitkat. Huge mistake. Called google, first rep insisted my issues were with T-Mobile and there was nothing they could do. Second call- got approved for a replacement, but then was informed they'd be putting a $300 hold on my cc to make sure I didn't keep my (nonworking) phone. I can't afford that, live paycheck to paycheck with a wife and 1 year old. So I spent the next 6 hours figuring out how to root the thing and unupgrade the radio software. That's all it was, a tiny 65k file that is miswritten. Easily could be a part of an OTA, but no, Google decided it's not important enough for our phones to work as phones. Shame on anyone involved in this, your update on your os on the phone I bought from YOU broke it. I had wanted a nexus 5, was considering saving up for it, but no way now. And no way am I upgrading ANYTHING from Google again.
Hi,
I am suffering too from this problem.
After 2 month of work, my nexus 4 get a "no service" and " emergency call only" .
I also saw from testing that the connection is connecting for a sec and then droped again.
I am very dissapointed from google and the whole service that we "got" from them.
I saw that problem appered from August and earlier then that, and no one from google taking a responsibility about it and tell us, all nexus 4 community, that had paid for a product that just stop working after the 4.3 update.
I expect from google to take this issue more seriously and get out a fix.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! nend 11/15/13 8:04 AM
@jordan
I used my PayPal for the hold. One thing good about PayPal is they will not take the money from the bank unless the transaction actually fully goes through. The hold was still listed in my PayPal maybe for over a month after they received the device. I am thinking they keep the hold until they have a chance to examine the device.
My problem was different, my battery expanded separating and swelling the phone. Screen was lifted, back glass panel was warped and case was separating. I couldn't believe the glass didn't break with all the pressure the battery put on it.
Don't want to go off topic anymore but IMHO these devices have heat related problems which I suspect was the main cause of the battery problems. However swelling didn't happen right away, before that it was random reboots, power downs and failure to power on every so often.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! nend 11/15/13 8:12 AM
Also would like to add that all this happened after the 4.3 update. I believe the device overheated during the update. Next update which would be 4.4 I am going to make sure the device is cool before I update.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Luke Symonds 11/27/13 11:12 AM
Had this problem with 4.3. Signal would drop and the phone would require airplane mode to be turned on and off so the phone found the signal again.
I thought 4.4 would solve this issue. at first it seemed to be working but it didnt last.... still getting the same old problem, although a little less frequently than before, so sometimes it will find signal by itself and other times it
will just sit there and do nothing until I turn airplane mode off/on.
I thought the phone was a real bargain when I bought it but now its becoming a huge burden.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! gnafgnouf 11/30/13 1:11 AM
Hi,
Let me share some good news : As already reported, my N4 is requesting pin code one or two times a day till 4.3 upgrade (August) especially when switching wifi on/off. I was waiting for 4.4 upgrade but problem remained. I saw on some french forum, problem should be a combination with 4.3 and phone hardware, for some of owners, problem was solved by replacing the N4 (for some not ...). Finaly I did it : Contacting Google service, they proposed immediately to send me a new phone; I received it after 3 days with 4.2 version. No disconnexion during one day, then OTA for 4.3 upgrade : No disconnexion during one day, then OTA for 4.4 upgrade : No disconnexion during 3 days.
So no pin code asked during 5 days with 3 SW revisions. So Great !!!
Regarding batterie leak, let's say autonomy, there is a huge difference with 2G only compared to 3G : time duration x2. This should be correlated by some user reports saying when wifi is ON, autonomy is much better (3G cut when wifi ON).
Hope this will help N4 users.
Chris
Hello, I confirm the good news shared by "gnafgnouf" in his previous post: if you experience a frequent loss of GSM connection, you just have to contact the Google Store service and explain your problem.
They will ask you to do a factory reset and if it does not solve your problem they will replace your faulty nexus 4 with a refurbished one (I just received mine today).
Pour les francophones : si vous avez des problèmes de pertes de connections fréquentes (en particulier avec Free), contactez le SAV Google (en France: tel 0805 541 040) et expliquez leur votre problème. Ils vous demanderont de réinitialiser votre nexus 4 et si cela ne résoud pas votre problème, ils vous proposeront d'échanger votre nexus 4 défectueux contre un appareil reconditionné (je viens juste de recevoir le mien). Et voilou!
All,
Please be aware that Google has released an OTA update for KRT16S named KOT49E. I'm not sure if a full factory image is available at this moment. The KOT49E is being called 4.4.1 and is supposed to be a bugfix for both N4 and N5 (N5 camera to be exact). I'm testing this version right now, but the issue is not that frequent for me. KRT16S did still have the issue for me, I can confirm. Let's hope that, after 4 friggin months this dark chapter in N4 history can be closed...
Rgds,
Whoops... forgot - here's the link with instructions.
Just be sure to be completely stock, no add-ons, no kernels (Franco, etc.)
... speaking of which, coming from Franco kernel 197 just restoring the old kernel (or flashing boot.img) is not enough as you will see when flashing the update package. You need to manually rename system/lib/hw/power.msm8960.so.bak (remove the .bak).
Good luck - fingers crossed!
I have installed KOT49E. I don't know yet if the GSM bug has been fixed. I just know that the Wi-Fi connection is sometimes frozen (no more data, unable to disconnect then reconnect. Have to toggle airplane mode on/off).
Yes I have... and it seems a little better when it comes to the GSM reboot bug... HOWEVER... I do experience random reboots now and it seems that when going through an area with bad reception (or spotty or congested, like in a traffic jam) I sometimes loose data completely. Toggle flightmode does help it seems. @rgreenwaalt: I have tried to log the issue, both on KOT49E and KOT49H. Are you interested? If so I can email them to you if you like (don't feel like posting them here). Also have one after a reboot when I was on KOT49H.
Mt Nexus 4 was replaced due to 4.3 issues with the radio. The replacement automatically downloaded 4.3 almost immediately, but I refuse to install it in case of the same issues again. I don't know if there is a 4.4 version that has been pushed out to Nexus 4 owners, because I can't seem to remove the 160+ Mb of 4.3 that's already downloaded, in order to check for updates. Anyone know a) how and where to find and remove the 4.3 update download file, and b) if there is a 4.4 that has been pushed out to Nexus 4's yet?
Thanks
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! d0rift 12/15/13 5:16 AM
I think it won't allow you to get 4.4 until you install 4.3. Another option is to side load the factory image via adb.
I had the same fear but I updated anyway.
It's been fine 4.2.2>4.3>4.4>4.4.2.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! Jordan Settlemyre 12/16/13 5:39 PM
How about you guys just don't release updates that break your phones? That'd be nice, since ya know, we paid for these things.
Re: Known bug in 4.3 causes GSM radio reboot - GOOGLE PLS FIX THIS ASAP! David Hammel 12/16/13 11:01 PM
Hi Paul! Good to hear from you, thanks for not forgetting us...
Although we appreciate your comment, it does feel like confirmation that Google really screwed up with the 4.3 update. How about some testing before releasing new major updates? And what's with all these small updates being released on practically the same day? It all feels like a rush job to me...
But what really makes it all lot worse is the way all of this is being communicated to us, the end users. And what's with customer support in non play store country's like the Netherlands? How the hell do we get support from Google?
It's all really very frustrating, having some of the best hardware running the os we love, but feeling left out by the company supporting it after releasing crippling firmware...
You have a large community of users that are loyal and more than willing to help, use that resource! Customers are a company's most valuable asset!
Hi Paul, you speak only about > v4.4 which means about post GNex devices. But what about Galaxy Nexus users? Do they have to stay with a broken 4.3 release because Google abandoned support? Is this Google's prediction to all post Galaxy Nexus devices that as soon they get abandoned they have to stay with broken Android version? Your answer would be very helpful for a decision in future investments in Google services and hardware...
Can you tell me if 4.4.x is being pushed out automatically to Nexus 4's yet, and if so, is it necessary to install the already downloaded 4.3 first?
My (second) N4 is still on 4.2 due to several 4.3 issues on my first one, but has already downloaded 4.3 automatically and wants me to install it - which I don't want to do in case I have to get a third Nexus 4!
If 4.4.x will be pushed to my phone and override the already downloaded 4.3, that's great (possibly - we'll see), but if not, can I delete the downloaded 4.3 image so 4.4 can download - and if so, where is it on my phone, and what's it called?
Thank you
Ian
Hi everyone,
Android 4.4.1/4.4.2, which recently starting rolling out, includes some improvements that should help address this issue for some of you. It doesn't solve it for everyone however, and it's still being worked on.
I'm also curious about how to get some customer support in the netherlands.
Since Google doesn't sell devices directly in the Netherlands at this time we don't have any support infrastructure there. I don't know if LG does or not but you might consider contacting them and asking.
And of course this forum is open to all.
... that's just another rabbit hole for us, just like pointing to this rather useless forum... because, let's be honest Paul, what HELP did we get from Google at this forum, or more specific, this post? LG just says 'not our software' and that's it... Google needs to get their act together when it comes to selling stuff, it's painfully obvious that selling hardware is NOT one of Google's focus area's, only getting people to use more Google products one way or the other... And if that product happens to be hardware from vendor X then too bad...
I'm annoyed this was marked Complete when it blatantly isn't, and was known not to be complete at the time of the posting, given the wording of it.
My phone has rebooted when (or just after) using the camera multiple times this week, and it's already on the 4.4.2 update
It's been five months since this problem started. My phone has basically been faulty for half the time I have owned it, which is utterly ridiculous.
