The Google News Page has gotten awfully jumpy lately. Just ask my mouse... CedarViola 3/26/12 5:12 PM

I've become afraid lately to move my mouse around the screen looking at Google News. If use it in a normal manner -- I use the cursor now as I used to use my finger to keep track of printed text --  for each blurb that my mouse hovers over, it refreshes that item and all items below it. This creates a lot of 'flash' on the screen. And that 'flash' makes for a very 'nervous' experience when scanning for stories. It's very disconcerting when the text you are reading dances before your eyes. Guess I'm old fashion, but reading a 'page' on a website should be similar to reading a 'page' in a newspaper. Newsprint don't jump around much. Save for a windy day...

Now that I've grown fearful of my own mouse, and have learned to rely on the cursor keys, I complain. I wish the Google news page would be more stable -- and I'm not referring to horses or cattle. Stable as in, "Load up the page and leave it up until the gentle user says otherwise."

My question is, "Am I all alone?

This is affecting me too!  It is very irritating.  What browser are you using?  I am using Firefox 11.0.  I strongly suspect it doesn't affect other browsers, in particular google's own wretched chrome browser.  So they don't particularly care!

Ah, so I'm not alone. I am also using Firefox 11.0 -- I should have mentioned that in the original post. And this could well be a Firefox thing. I just tried a vintage copy of Netscape and it views the page just fine.

Perhaps I'll go back to Netscape, it has its charm...

This started several days ago for me as well: it seems like the expandable story boxes expand and then collapse quickly as a scroll down the page with the mouse on my scrollbar.

I'm using Firefox 11.0 on a Mac.

Same problem here, and also using Firefox.  Switched to "Classic" view, and it's all better :)

Happnes to me too. Also using FF 11.  Happens on my Mac and on my PC.  Does not happen in safari opr chrome.  Haven't tried IE.

How do you switch to the classic view?

Looks like this is a known Firefox bug. It's in the Mozilla bug database #734338. Somebody oughtta fix it...

Hi all,

The team has been made aware of this issue, and it's being looked into.

Thanks for your feedback,

Erik

I found the problem - it is with the G+ like button.  If you have Ad block, right click the Google +1 icon (below each news link) and choose "block frame".  Once you do that, the flickering goes away.

Thanks Jeff, this fixed the issue for me.  Wish firefox just had the option "Block Google's bloated useless crap".
