|Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||brennanrusnell||2/11/09 12:05 PM|
I used Google Mobile Sync on my iPod Touch, but I recently purchased an iPhone.
Upon the purchase of the iPhone, I restored my iPod Touch back to factory settings.
When I go to the sync page on my iPhone, the iPod Touch still shows up, even though I am no longer using it.
Is there a way to remove the iPod Touch from my list of synced devices?
Does the process of restoring the iPod Touch ensure that a new owner will not have access to my Google Sync data?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||DouglasG||2/11/09 3:05 PM|
There currently isn't a way to remove your device from that list, which is essentially a list of devices you've ever synced, but if you've restored the device, or if you delete the sync relationship in the Settings app, then a new owner won't be able to sync your data with it.
Hope that helps,
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||brennanrusnell||2/11/09 3:12 PM|
Thanks for the info.
That definitely helps :)
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||tmnc||4/8/09 10:25 AM|
Actually, that's not much of a help -- if the device broke, the user CANNOT delete the relationship.
I have exactly this problem with a Touch that was replaced.
Please add this functionality!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bill B1||6/17/09 8:25 PM|
I too have recently gotten rid of two old iPhones for new models and now all devices are showing up - would really like to be able to delete the ones that no longer will be syncing, not only is it confusing it begs the question, how long until someone figures out how to sync my information? Chances are, if I corresponded with them to sell the devices, they know my e-mail address, then it is just a matter of getting my password, and if my device is already associated with the account, it couldn't be that hard.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||hyuan||6/20/09 11:45 AM|
I agree that this is an issue. If you've ever sold a device and accidentally not wiped it clean - people can have access to your data. You can't even de-select all of the information to be synced because the interface requires at least one calendar or address book item selected. Notwithstanding, what if your phone is stolen? There needs to be a way to jettison the setting remotely.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||gotommy||6/21/09 12:08 PM|
That does seem like a rather daft response (and something that shouldn't take more than two shakes of a Google engineer's brain to change). I have the same problem after upgrading to the iPhone 3G S. There are now two identical devices listed and I'm not sure which is which. It is conceivable that I'd *want* to keep both sync'd (and maybe I do), but I can't think of a reason why I shouldn't be able to simply delete one (or both) if wanted to. What's it to Google?
Alternatively (or perhaps in addition), I should be able to modify the label so I can at least tell them apart.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||carlosantos||7/28/09 4:27 PM|
Agreed, this should be a default "feature" (not even sure if you should call it a feature since it's so basic)
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||MyDogHasFleas||10/7/09 9:40 AM|
Yes I agree wholeheartedly that we must be able to remove devices from the synced device list.
I just ran into this because I got a warranty replacement for my iPod Touch. I sat at the Manage Devices screen for several minutes trying to figure out how to delete my old device. I never imagined that it couldn't be done! I'm rather shocked.
Google -- is this on the list of highly needed features?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bill B1||10/7/09 9:45 AM|
Your lucky with one, I have 1st Gen iPhone, 1st Gen Touch, 2 3G iPhones and now a 3GS and a different 3G that all show up. The really funny thing is that even when the device is associated with a different account, it still stays on both of them - it doesn't 'sync' or anything with an account that isn't set up but once that device has been associated, it stays there forever.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||jeffreypscott||11/6/09 6:40 AM|
for the love of... please let me delete a device i no longer own! do no evil and all that.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||azjules4u||12/9/09 1:22 PM|
Will this feature ever be implemented? I noticed that this thread was started in Feb. and we are already in December. I've had my iPhone replaced a total of 2 times. That leaves me with 3 Devices listed, all with the same name. The only way I can tell them apart is by looking at the sync dates. We really need to be able to DELETE or CHANGE the name of OUR devices from the Sync list.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bill B1||12/9/09 2:21 PM|
Three, I have about 10 devices listed - currently only have my one 3GS - I have sold all the rest over the years but they still stay on there.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||minazaki||2/1/10 7:54 PM|
Please, can this be fixed?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||garzjoe||2/2/10 9:41 AM|
Agree...makes no sense to not be able to remove delete old devices from Google Mobile Sync. I'm going to request this as an idea to Google over at: http://productideas.appspot.com
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||AllenV||2/12/10 5:55 PM|
Could this be a security issue? I have returned two iphones to the apple store, and am worried that someone out there might be able to gain access to my gmail account. There really should be a way to delete old synced devices to prevent any security breeches. Google, please address this asap!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Puneet Kheterpal||2/13/10 6:03 PM|
Now it is no longer about being able to do so or not. I am using Dataviz's Documents To Go Premium on my Iphone 3G which I bought from the store to be able to edit my attachments as it syncs mails with supported attachment with Google Apps. Due to some issue I had to uninstall the same and them install it again on my device. Now the application refuses to work and gives an 'activesyncpolicyerr' error. The problem seems to be with the old listing of the DTG1 device/software which is showing in the sync devices on Google apps which cant re sync or be deleted either. My app seems to have become redundant.
Would be great if anyone can suggest a work around.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||kboi||2/17/10 1:05 PM|
I agree Google should let you delete old devices on the list. Please Google let us delete our old devices!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||kboi||3/13/10 10:52 AM|
This is just silly that you can't delete old devices. I agree with everyone else in this post that Google should let you delete devices you don'thave.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||DerrickDel||5/18/10 10:14 PM|
It is soooo terrible that a device cannot be removed from the list. This has to be at the top of the features needed list.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||mandejapan||6/24/10 3:06 PM|
Well it's June 24, the new iPhone 4 is here and I still don't see a solution for this problem. Has anyone figured out a way to delete old devices? Thanks...

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||camwinn||7/3/10 6:33 AM|
Because it's Google. Gmail is from 2004 and it still doesn't work reliably.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ryon55||7/3/10 10:49 AM|
Adding my voice to the choir here. I was just dumbfounded when I could see no way to rename or delete devices in the "Manage Devices" interface. Huge oversight or weird technical issue? Someone from Google please chime in again?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||FireMedic92||7/10/10 10:23 PM|
Let us delete syncs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||raskren||7/14/10 6:05 AM|
Just adding my request as well. I have an iPhone and an iPad using Google Sync and my sync list now has 5 devices. I'd Luke to remove the three that aren't being used.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||chiefted||7/18/10 6:38 PM|
Ok chiming in on this and yes please.
Since Google is already in trouble with "not deleting data" (see big wireless, collecting info while
creating Google Maps doing evil thing) adding a delete old devices option is required!
Seriously Google you are being evil here.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||JayGeorge||7/19/10 4:05 AM|
this is ridiculous, Google is so lazy sometimes.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ahouser72||7/21/10 7:04 PM|
Guys - seriously... wtf??? I have a brand new iPad. When I connect to m.google.com/sync, it shows me the device for my iPod (which is not currently correctly syncing, since it was restored). So now I have NO devices that are correctly syncing, and no way to reset or delete the association, don't even get me started about how I might, God forbid, want two different devices synced to different calendars.
Look, it's really friggin' grand of you to offer a way of syncing our cloud apps in a way that Apple was too thick to design (or allow?) in to their devices, but it's all for naught if you stuff doesn't work. Get it?
Now fix your code.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||snowmantan||7/22/10 3:13 PM|
"So lazy sometimes?"
"Fix your code?"
How much are you paying for this again?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||JayGeorge||7/22/10 3:28 PM|
£30 per user per year In my organisation actually, plus google gets to index all my messages
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||sdirghalli||8/4/10 5:09 PM|
Let me add my name to the list...please allow us to delete devices!!!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||RobS22||8/7/10 12:01 AM|
I'd also like to be able to zap old devices from the list.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ragfield||8/11/10 5:44 AM|
Please add the ability to remove devices from this list. At the very least it would be helpful to be able to rename the devices.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||RodentNoir||8/12/10 12:10 PM|
Please please please sort this out. At least let us rename a device even if we can't delete it. This is driving me crazy!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||bendrucker||8/16/10 7:11 PM|
Just adding my vote for this. It's so trivial. Just add the feature.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||KBraz||8/20/10 9:08 AM|
Please add the ability to delete old devices...
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||justinseinlin||8/21/10 7:50 PM|
Is there any plan to enable removing of old devices from the sync settings page?
If so, when can we expect it?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||martinmamd||8/27/10 3:50 PM|
I lost my iPhone today. I can't believe there's no way for me to unsync it. Whoever took it can see all my emails!!!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||brianwilson71||9/1/10 5:58 AM|
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||brianwilson71||9/1/10 5:59 AM|
Any update on this?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Berke||9/1/10 6:26 AM|
I am too dumbfounded and surprised there is no way to delete the old devices...
I just upgraded to a newer iPhone and I am now seeing two identical "iPhone" devices on the sync list. Which is which? I would surely love to be able to delete the one I'm not using anymore.
Google should allow the users to delete the devices from the list, but maybe mandate that the last device standing remains unerasable, for sync's sake. Or not, People should be able to actually manage their devices from the Google Sync page.
Just fiddling with the settings on the devices themselves should not be adequate!
Please Google, could you work on this?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||simonnelli||9/2/10 10:37 AM|
Another vote for the feature to rename and delete devices.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Strulf||9/9/10 1:50 PM|
Me too: I'm not happy with this, I really want to delete my old device/sync!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||louisetienneb||10/17/10 1:21 PM|
Dear Google Dev,
Could you add a feature in order to let us remove our old device from google sync???
I had a lot of iPhone, iPad and I restore them several time... Therefore, I now have more than 15 devices listed and it becomes really boring to find the last one when I want to change settings...
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||aserettt||10/19/10 2:47 PM|
i have the same problem! it's confusing and i have to update ALL (i have 5) devices because I dont know which one corresponds to which phone!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ralphkui||10/22/10 1:52 PM|
I had an iPhone which was stolen and is used a Nokia phone for a while which I also synched, now I'm back on an iPhone but I still see all three devices there and not only is difficult to tell the two iPhones apart but it is not healthy to remember the robbery every time I see the other iPhone listed with the date and hour of the robbery =(
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||GoClick||10/23/10 1:33 PM|
Google please fix this. What will it take, for some news outlet to get a hold of the story, or maybe a public complaining from a foreign privacy commissioner/minister.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||scan95mark||10/23/10 2:57 PM|
Add me to the list of people who would like to see this changed. For me, I find that if I have all the devices checked to sync, then it will lock up my current device. I'm on device number 4. Only use one, have given away the other 3. But they still remain...like everyone else on here.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ZeroXX||11/6/10 12:01 PM|
Sign me up for this feature too. This is a HUGE security leak. I can't even imagine who wrote this section, but I can guarantee that he hadn't heard of security ever.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bill B1||11/6/10 12:08 PM|
You do realize that all this does is associate the device(s) UDIDs with your Google Account - there is no 'security leak' the person would need your Google Username and Password just like they would on a device you had not used before. Don't get me wrong, it is very annoying and they could easily add a 'manage devices' option to remove all old devices or at the very least, add an option that if it has not been accessed in 30 days to remove it from the list.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||pedrotp||11/11/10 1:19 PM|
PLEASE ALLOW DELETE!!!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||incubheat||11/16/10 7:55 PM|
I totally agree with most of the other comments on this post. I believe this feature requires the ability to delete old devices! Absolutely REQUIRES IT! Imagine losing your phone before you had chance to delete the google exchange account and boom, someone has all your calendar info and emails. Come on now google, I'm sure you realize this. Not all iphone users have a remote wipe option.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||BenDJ||11/28/10 4:46 PM|
Another vote for the feature to rename and delete devices. Please!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||ignite_design||12/2/10 10:53 PM|
I can't seem to get my device to show up at all! I've got my account set up through Exchange and can see my main calendar on my iphone, but when I go to the m.google.com/sync page on my phone, there is not list of devices to choose my phone from. Can anyone help? All I see is a link "How to setup Google Sync on iPhone"
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||apezam||12/4/10 12:17 PM|
Google, Please allow us to manage devices
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||whoEverIAm||12/5/10 4:27 AM|
Yes, please add features to manage devices. If the list is getting longer caused by replaced devices, that one don't own anymore the list is barely readable. Delete, Rename would be nice!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||jeffreypscott||12/7/10 1:17 PM|
in today's announcement of google chrome os, google touted the sync feature as being one that lets people keep working on their documents, even if they lose the original computer. yeah, well, it would be really nice to be able to deactivate a LOST or STOLEN computer, don'tcha think? when are you going to get on this google? at this point, ANY reply would be very much appreciated.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||jrguk||12/10/10 2:56 AM|
Re: 'ignite_design'. Has your device previously been synchronised to another Google Account? I'm encountering the same thing, and it seems as though because it cannot be deleted from one it won't appear in the other - and therefore you can't control which calendars are being synchronised. Bit of a slip up, in Google's synchronisation design.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||paul161||12/14/10 4:04 AM|
Yep just another voice to ask please let us delete an old device.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Xiexiema||12/24/10 5:36 AM|
Amazing this can't be done yet. Apart from being confusing as hell with all the old devices still being there - Surely there is an added security issue. Why on earth don't developers think of these things. You have a new idea to "add" something - you must also immediately code a way to "remove" the very same thing. Before releasing the idea to the public.
Imagine if all the applications on your computer had no way to un-install them? Crazy.

I'm in the same boat - I tested a new phone for a couple of weeks, then switched back to my old phone (iPhone 3GS). The test phone (WP7) shows up in my list of devices, but my iPhone doesn't. While I'd like to be able to delete the device I no longer use/own, I'd also like to be able to just ADD my iPhone. Is that possible? How do you manage devices at all?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||williamwu01||2/3/11 5:33 PM|
Thanks Google for allowing us to revoke access (certain sites to our Google account), but we would also like to revoke access from certain devices. Gives me peace of mind, since I've changed devices quite a few times now (various iPhones, iPods, iPads and Androids).
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||FrankWithG||2/4/11 2:26 PM|

Please give us remove sync for a specific device.

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Minasoko||2/20/11 3:43 AM|
I would also like to be able to delete, or even hide items from this list
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||jcb718||2/24/11 9:12 AM|
Users should be able to manage/delete devices that they want to to sync.
Now understandably this app/feature is still in beta, but there should have been a disclaimer when initially released, or updated in their known limitiations area, to make users aware of this. Unfortunately Google has a pretty crappy history of having new apps/features in beta and never updating them to be full feature status and that maybe what is going on here. Hopefully with all of the commenters being displeased with this ridiculous omission/limitation they will get moving on a fix/update soon.
It has been a little over 2yrs since DouglasG, Google employee, responded to this post stating that managing/deleting devices was not possible. Hopefully Google appreciates their users/customers enough that they will correct this.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Aaron Kuan||2/24/11 9:57 PM|
I met the same problem. Come here from google search and read all responses, all that I want to say is "Please let us delete an old device."

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||richwiss||3/11/11 4:20 PM|
Add delete feature!!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||TechJedi||3/17/11 5:34 PM|
Thanks for the answer DouglasG. That explains it.
Responding to everyone else, I agree that the extra devices are "clutter". But nothing more... I don't think there is any security concern because once the device is reset it will no longer have the sync password.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||EastsideRJ||3/22/11 12:03 PM|
There should be a way to delete unwanted devices for sure. Another thing is, will my current iPhone try to maintain an ActiveSync process with the old iPhone in my device list? Wondering if this is causing my battery drain!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||scottjl||3/25/11 7:04 AM|
it's been over a year and google still won't let us delete old devices?!?! what gives? you guys can't figure out how to do it? i absolutely will not recommend google sync until this is implemented (and will tell people to stay away from it)!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||owen tommy||3/25/11 12:13 PM|
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||TechJedi||3/25/11 2:23 PM|
Scott, I agree it would be nice to not see old devices in the list. But there is zero downside to it aside from the annoyance of seeing it. Your old device isn't still syncing.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Kosikutioner||4/1/11 3:32 PM|
TechJedi, it's a fairly annoying downside to have to sort through and find the current one. It's not clean like Google often tries to be.
I just wanted to add my voice to this, it's frustrating to sort through it.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||NearlyNormal90s||4/6/11 4:36 AM|
Please add this basic feature. When an old device is sold or lost or given away, there is no way to delete private contacts, which is very annoying.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||bwfollis||4/27/11 12:05 PM|
Come on Google! I have been following this for over a year. :( This is just plain silly. I have now gone through 4 iPhone's and 2 iPad's and all show in my list. If nothing else make the view sortable or show the ones that have not synced in over 30 days greyed out at the bottom or something. Though I would prefer to remove them from the list altogether. It is very annoying as you are trying to trouble shoot and/or add more calendars to have to figure out which one is the "current" iPhone or iPad when the other are now of completely no use to me. If there is some crazy reason Google just has to keep them around I do not see why that would mean they can not sort and shade the list. All it does is add to the end users frustration as they are seeing "junk" they don't want.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||mikechue||5/2/11 6:20 AM|
Could this be part of Googles ploy to track how many iOS devices in the market and in various parts of the world? I am not sure what other info on the iOS devices being collected now that we only just learnt that Apple have a file in the iOS device tracking the location. Could Google have some other file doing the same too?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||axnflirt||5/9/11 4:20 PM|
I just ran into this problem where I had forgotten to remove the synced setting on my blackjack from 2009 and gave it to my friend to use. She saw my calendar and was almost about to delete things when she realized it was a current calendar. I'm using my iPhone3GS. Its ridiculous that not only can I not delete the device but I can even deselect the calendar. It would have done some damage if my friend didn't catch this in time and had deleted things off my synced calendar.
GOOGLE PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||zbeckman||5/12/11 7:05 PM|
Google is horrible. The security issues alone are opening them up for a lawsuit. Especially for a PAID application ($50/user/year, it's NOT cheap compared to many other services). Class action, anyone?
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||alexandrojv||5/12/11 11:39 PM|
@zbeckman what are you even talking about, Google Sync is not a paid app. You may be referring to the Google Apps services, but it does not include Google Sync as you can confirm here: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/index.html
And FYI Google Sync is still a beta service as stated on the Google Sync website: http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
As with all beta product, if you don't want the buginess don't use.

a sw cannot be Beta forever...
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Josh Carpenter||6/8/11 3:29 AM|
Just adding my request to the rest, this needs to be addressed. It seems that the more dedicated to iOS devices one is, the more one's sync account gets cluttered up. I've got five devices listed there from iPods and iPads that have come and gone over the years. From the WWDC keynote last week it sounds like this might all be a moot point soon, with iCloud picking up most if not all of this functionality.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Joe Easterly||6/15/11 3:22 PM|
Adding my request to the rest -- I have so many devices showing up, I don't know which one is which. I need to be able to delete the old devices.

Log into your google account and change your password and secret question. Then remotely wipe your phone clean via www.me.com (Find My Phone) page.

Google Sync team -
I've got over a dozen devices listed here, between upgrades, replacement phones, iPads, and my wife's devices. Please add the ability to remove and rename devices. I'm no engineer, but this just looks lazy.

* Bump *
The ability to manage (re: edit, delete, etc.) devices from the GoogleSync list/history would be a most welcome addition. With all of the extra authentication features Google has developed and released recently, simply implementing a new password or the Google Authenticator will render any old device inert as they won't be able to log in.
Unfortunately, there are functional problems with GoogleSync retaining older profiles for some 3rd party apps and just the ease of use for normal users.
Please, Google, allow us to manage these devices. It would be a blessing.

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||melt95||10/1/11 7:26 PM|
Just a note, I too have several devices listed that are no longer sync'd (or even owned). I see in the responses that suggest this is just a dumb list that really has no impact... not so, I ran into an issue with Google Music Beta where during setup it warned me I had too many devices tied to my account. Fact is I have four.
On the bright side, I was able to delete one on the spot that allowed me to sync my 4th device. Point is this list is being used for something. It would be wise to allow the user to deselect devices that are no longer sync'd (or at least owned).

I agree. There are devices showing up that I don't have. It would be great if Google would fix this issue. There seem to be enough complains about it.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||jr219||10/17/11 11:31 AM|
It we aren't able to delete them we should be able to at least re-name them! Very frustrating have 4 or 5 iphones listed.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||pjstran||10/17/11 10:28 PM|
This absolutely needs to be fixed. This should not be difficult, but Google should try to make this a priority. Thanks Google.

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Don Fulano||10/22/11 2:05 PM|
My Calendars are not syncing, and I am trying to troubleshoot the problem, but it doesn't help to have the device list cluttered with a list of "iPhone"s. I have no idea which one is the one I'm supposed to be using with my current iPhone, and now they ALL say Last sync= today.

Yeah add me to the list of struggling users that want to remove old devices from the sync list. WTF is that?!!! I've got 5 devices in my list and no way to know which one is the current one cause they all say iPhone!! Unbelievable though I must say kind of expected. None of any issues I've ever had with Gmail, Google Maps, Google+ or any other Google product has ever been addressed let alone fixed.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bill B1||11/6/11 7:20 AM|
You can tell which one is which by the date/time it was synced - I have over 15 devices listed and it is a PIA, especially when switching on the same day so date/time are the same. Although it isn't a security issue as long as you remove account from the old device or wipe it altogether. It is just an announce when initially setting up a new device....
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Tinkering_Tony||11/14/11 8:10 PM|
I would also like this ability to remove old devices. I just upgraded to an Apple iPhone 4S from a 3G and find it confusing to see two entries both named "iPhone" and no ability to delete or at least rename one as defunct.

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||TheCoyoteDreams||12/6/11 8:10 PM|
My god...WTF Google decision makers. Really??? 2yrs on this issue and your still ignoring it. Can SOMEBODY overthere at least chime in and give us a bone or something on this? Did you hire some engineers from Microsoft? I upgraded from a iPhone 3G to a iPhone 4S and I'm dealing w/ two accounts that say iPhone that initially are really close together on the sync dates so I have to pay attention. How is this feature possibly coded that you can't even allow somebody to change the name or inactivate it let alone delete the sync accounts? Is it gonna break Google if you allow it. If there's a technical or programming reason why this won't happen, then tell us and explain it. We're smart users and at least we can understand the reason why you haven't changed this in over 2yrs of complaints.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||timmullen71||12/8/11 10:56 PM|
the phone listed on google sync isnt mine. I have deleted and resetup my google account and changed the password a couple of times, but my phone will only sync that one time and then my account reverts back to the unknown phone. Since I can not delete that phone, I cant stop this cycle. I cant access the app store, calendar is screwed up, for some reason the phone is dialing wrong numbers when accessing people from the contact list, and the alarm clock keeps losing my set times and reverting back to a set time I never programmed, gps turns on, but when you try to use an app it says it cant access the gps, WiFi keeps turning off, 3g keeps turning off, the phone is unable to find Wifi networks that weren't already seen by the phone before this started, and latitude doesn't list any of my connected people. Latitude can't even find me. It sure would be nice to delete the mystery device on my account that is once again currently listed as the only device my google account is syncing with. Google says the device synced 50 minutes ago. My phone has given me the same message on the notification bar saying it was unable to connect to google every morning for the past two weeks.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||TheBigWeaver||12/9/11 8:24 AM|
It simply isnt going to happen folks. I've been struggling with the same issue. Google's whole business model is amassing googlebytes of data. This fix doesn't fit within those parameters. They simply do not care.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||lavallie||12/20/11 8:11 AM|
"Giant Sync-hole Consumes Google Chrome"
It is ludicrous that you have not addressed a security leak such as this.
If a person sync's their phone with your system and then sells it or has it stolen or, if somehow someone else is able to log into sync one time, the account user cannot delete that mobile device!! Incredible!!! Totally unacceptable. Completely blows the concept of Google Sync and Google Chrome out of the water.
What bone-head engineer/programmer screwed this on up and won't fix it.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||PriConUser||12/26/11 7:27 PM|
Wow! Google is failing its standards? Is it all about money? Well charge a damn fee then but don’t play around with user privacy. I liked Google ages back as it stood for non-evil aspects and not because it was free. Data is not cheap, you cant offer things free an in turn steal our data. This is grand theft!
If it’s all about money then please charge a fee but don’t be evil in the name of free. Please fix the basic security and privacy issues or come clean and accept your dirty nature and I will kiss goodbuy to any and all google products for ever.
Few security major blunders (or clever theft)
1. Why is google or any mail id needed for an android account. I am pretty happy to just sync if needed with my system and not necessary need to store my data in some gmail (free account for which no dedicated help or accountability or service is available in case of misuse or problem)
2. Why is user permission not felt required while data is being captured?
3. Just because we bought an android phone does not me we sold our soul to google and now there is more proof how evil can google get just because they litrally steal data under the cover of free apps!!!
4. Why should my device be listed in a free gmail account for which google takes no accountability!?! Is this sick business model or moron programming ? best of all you give us no control to delete our own data which you stole!
DON’T be a thief! Ask for money and we will PAY but don’t cheat us and steal data.
Hope google is man enough to answer the questions and come clean. I am ready to pay a fine for using android or any google product but give me an option to get out and clear my data from your hands which accept no accountability. I am really sorry to see google is such standards of security.

Same here. Now have an old 3GS (sold) & 4 (lost) on the list as well as my new 4s & Android tablet.
It would be great if Google would allow users to delete old devices :-)

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||techno1||1/29/12 12:27 PM|
REALLLY !!! Google! what a way to breach privacy of data and your 'terms of conditions'! People should be able to DELETE DEVICES that they no longer have! This ensures data is secure from folks who have stolen our devices or they are not lost. You want your apps to be used ---- PROVIDE A WAY TO DELETE DEVICES from your GOOGLE when they are no longer used!!! Very upset because this is so ridiculous because you do not want to secure data by changing code to deleve devices.

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||bernieinca||3/5/12 11:11 AM|
Maybe a Lawsuit claiming punitive damages would get Google's attention??
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Settsu||3/28/12 2:07 PM|
Based on my experience, Google is unlikely to ever address this issue as a response to request/outcry as they have yet to demonstrate that they acknowledge the existence of the mythological creature known as a "Human User". (And, remember, free product users are not customers but goods to be sold. Even in my recent experience as a paying customer, the treatment is lukewarm at best.)
This is why I am gradually weaning myself from their ignorant graces and paying for actual services (shocking, I know) where you are treated like a real person and valued customer.

you can remove devices from your" My devices in the store and hear is how. Go in to the chrome setting tab then under the hood- then where it reads "Google dashboard" click that- then look for the android icon- click my installed aps- then click the "devices" tab easy as that. That's how I did it.

C'mon Google!! This is worse than Microsoft. I now have 4 iPads, and 3 iPhones showing up - and I only use 1 iPad and 1 iPhone. The others are old devices that I no longer use.
Granted, I can at least see the last date they synced, so I can determine which I am still using, but c'mon...

I have 7 iPhones and 1 iPad. Really? Come on, it's more confusing than anything. It would just make it easier if it you could delete them. In fact, since I'm on the subject. Why does Google Sync even exist? Shouldn't it be a part of the iPhone? I should be able to go into the Calendar app and select what calendars I want. Not first approve it on Google, then go select which ones I want.

Not hard, but it's not a priority. So it won't get done anytime soon.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||costerhout||8/12/12 12:15 PM|
Going on over 3 years now. Just lost my phone and yes, although I am ultimately responsible and should have taken better precautions I'm still left scratching my head at just how difficult it is to change / remove all my Google schwack so that the crackhead who now presumably has my phone can't access my information. Outdated help posts, unhelpful help posts, multiple places to change passwords, can't seem to remove old phone from list of devices capable of syncing. The list goes on and on.
If I ever find a better alternative I will definitely switch.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||bookus11||8/18/12 3:40 PM|
Still having this issue too - sold my iPhone and wiped it before sending. Did not think to delete it from google sync. This isn't a security concern for me, since the phone does not have any of my old account information on it, let alone any new information. The frustration is just echoed of those above - how can this not be enabled?
Listen, Google team, if this is something more complicated than we think, just please explain why this feature isn't enabled. Everyone here would at least appreciate (1) the response and (2) the knowledge being shared. Otherwise, if it is simple, please just make the feature happen.

Goggle tech says what the the dashboard is showing under Google Sync is just the history of the mobile devices that ever used it, and they can keep that, like in another link, tab, sub-link, or whatever, but I STRONGLY AGREE THAT IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to have a way to disconnect a sync association with a mobile device from the actual dashboard, for any case where it cannot be done from the actual mobile device, because stolen or broken.
... isn't this supposed to be the Google Account DashBoard where I see and control everything about my account and All Google Things related to it???

Whyy Google.. just why? I have always been seeing these devices for the past 3 years just thinking you had to do something fishy, but like everyone here. I have 3 iphones and 2 ipads showing up. Why can't I delete? 3+ years and you are unable to respond???
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Michael Pinney||11/1/12 9:36 PM|
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Dallas Hayes||11/2/12 8:25 AM|
Please tell me that Google is working on a way to simply delete and old device? This would prevent multiple syncs going on - yes that's my current issue. Plus - you can not turn off all calendars to sync. You have to keep one active - the main one, and that's the one I no longer wish to sync from an old iPhone 3. I don't understand why a user cannot simple mange (delete an old one) their device(s).
Thanks so much!

|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Bob62||1/3/13 7:22 PM|
I'm glad I found this discussion.
I have 5 devices listed in Dashboard's Google Sync but not the one I currently use.
It syncs fine but isn't listed. It's a Galaxy Note 2 if that matters.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Christopher Robinson||1/10/13 12:36 PM|
To remove devices from the "other devices" list in Chrome, go to your Google dashboard and choose to stop chrome sync. This will clear all sync'd data from the Google servers and also log you out of chrome. Log back in to chrome and "there ya go" all devices have been removed.

That actually worked! Took me 1.5 hrs of reading through complaints all over the internet about this issue to find this information...Then another half hour to sign out of of everything, then restart & check to make sure it worked on all my devices...but it did! Thanks. Only problem is that now all of my bookmarks on my bookmarks bar have doubled...I use folders, so that's about 2000 extra bookmarks. Sigh. Maybe another restart will clear that up. Really google? There MUST be a better way...

This one reason I can't stand GOOGLE - AT TIMES! They are a cutting edge company. This just makes no sense tho.. Why not allow us to delete devices? It makes no sense at all..
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Иван Мишић||6/1/13 3:01 PM|
Well, Google became a money making company like any other. It means that they will not use their resources on problems that do not make money. And they left transparency for users to control account from the time before... It would be better not to have control possibility, then to have this behavior from Google. I am begriming to wonder whether to change my orientation to the other providers of internet services. And I'm user of Google from almost the beginning.
|Re: Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||LaMonte Ford||7/15/13 11:52 AM|

|Remove Device From Gmail Mobile Sync||Matthew Justice||7/20/13 10:33 AM|
Just adding my voice to this disappointingly long list. It's disappointing to observe Google ignoring such an innocently simple request... unless, of course, they have a business reason that they're not prepared to disclose. It's disappointing to check my browsing history on my tablet and see my phone browsing activity, even though I'm signed outdoor of Chrome on both. It's disappointing that a Google account is mandatory to access the Play store, even though email etc are not required for downloading apps. But we've all got one... you need one so that you can search forums like this to find out how sinister Google are.
