|No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||james.sorensen||6/9/09 6:50 AM|
Used to work all the time. But now when i plug my G1 into a pc (diff pcs/winXP/vista/7) the pc doesn't seem to recognize anything attached nor does the notifications on the phone show it's connected and offer me an option to mount. I have reformatted sd card and also done a hard reset on the phone. The phone still charges when the usb is plugged in but that is it. Anyone run across this before? I'm kinda expecting the port is screwed which is a lil odd seeing how it has that annoying cover for it and all. Thanks.

The same thing started happening to me last week about the same time that my G1 downloaded a major update. Has anyone else reported this problem? I've tried mounting the G1 to other computers and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
|Re: No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||2550android||6/11/09 8:05 AM|
We just figured out what the problem was! When I first got my G1, I plugged it into the USB port and 'mounted' the USB device. This set a device drive letter of "F:" on my PC for that device. Last week, I remapped that drive letter to another device (network location) during a period when my G1 was not plugged in. Windows isn't smart enough to simply assign the next drive letter to the USB device when it's plugged in. Windows saw that previously I had assigned "F:" to my G1 and since "F:" was already taken by my newly mapped network location, Windows simply gave up and didn't reassign the G1 to "G:" as one would expect.
To fix this, on your PC click "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management" - "Disk Management". Find the G1 on the device list at the bottom and right-click to "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." Then assign the G1 to a drive letter that is not currently in use.
Close out all windows and look for the G1 in Windows Explorer. Thanks to Daryn V for helping me figure this out.

I know all about drive letters being taken and disk management on the pc side.. The root of my problem is the fact that phone itself when usb gets plugged in does not give me the mount option at all.
|Re: No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||2550android||6/11/09 9:41 AM|
Hmmm. Sorry to hear of that James. I thought for sure we had gotten to the root of it. This really sounds like a hardware problem on the phone's USB Mini-B plug. I suppose it's possible that the power terminal and grounding return is good while one or more of the data terminals are bad. Have you tried a thorough cleaning of the phone's receptacle or a different cable? I realize that these sound like simple ideas, but it's often best to start with the easy ones.

I am having the same problem. I was able to connect and mount my sd card through a usb connection to my pc last week, but now my pc doesn't recognize the G1 at all, and there is no usb connection notification on the G1. Have tried different cables and one other computer with no luck.
|Re: No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||jshelamer||6/20/09 7:04 PM|
I don't know how to fix that, but assuming you have a WiFi network at home, you can use aFile (from Android Market) to move files back and forth between the desktop and the G1.

i'm having the same problem. i just rooted my phone and have a custom firmware, but this was happening before i did that. i have to use a micro-sd card reader, which is annoying. the phone seemed to have this problem after the cupcake update. it still charges, just no mounting option. and it doesn't work when connected to 2 different computers, or a ps3. any suggestions?
|Re: No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||james.sorensen||6/29/09 9:09 AM|
K after a few weeks of no option, using the same usb cables etc.. it just started working again... on all the several pc systems i tried it when it on when it wasn't working. So who knows.

I have this exact same problem. Suddenly it just won't mount. Tried Windows/Mac/Linux. Dmesg shows that nothing is connected at all. I'm using a Dev Phone 1, running cupcake. This doesn't seem to be the result of any sort of update.

I am having the same problem, and it seemed to happen after the last update. I have tried using new USB cables and 3 different computers to connect to. The phone will charge but there is no option in the notifications menu to mount the phone the PC.

My mount option came back after a major crash while removing a non-working application (10001 cocktails I believe), I had to pull the battery and SIM card to recover.

After hours of reading articles and questions and answer posed across the web i couldnt find anything to help me with this problem. So i came up with the most obvious answer to the problem. Whenever i called to mobile with a problem they always told me "cut off your phone and then cut it back on" or remove the battery and put it back in...and if that still doesnt work give us a call thank you have a nice day." so i removed the battery and plugged the usb cord in and when putting the battery back in sure enough the driver for which i had my g1 hooked up to came on. Your phone will give you a message saying you sd card is being checked for errors and then your mount option should appear. If you help doing this contact me at profess...@gmail.com

I am having the same problem and I can not find a solution. My wife's phone works just fine. My phone does not give me the option to mount anymore. I used to be able to mount it, but now my PC does not recognize a phone being connected to the USB port. I think it is a software issue because my phone still charges apon connecting to the USB port. I don't know much about the android software, but it seems as I am missing a driver on my G1. I did not use this feature much in the past, but now I need it bad; I found a way to use my phone as a modem to browse the internet on my PC but for this to work I need to connect my G1 to my PC through the USB cable. I NEED HELP GUYS. HELPPPPP, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Well guys, I finally got my phone to work. After 2 months of frustration and tinkering with the phone, I finally got it to give me the USB mount option. I tried everything: different cables, different PCs, plug and unplug, manufacturer reset, take the battery out, PC settings…you name it. Nothing worked for me. This is how I got it done, and I am not sure if it will stay that way for good:
1. Try different cables. I tried several but the same result, no connection.
2. Try different PCs, I did none worked.
3. I finally read on one of the forums that someone got his PC to recognize his phone by plugging the cable approx. %80 into the USB phone jack. This solution somewhat worked for me. The USB mount option on the phone popped up but not consistently.
4. Wiggle the cable inside the phone jack around, in and out, left and right. Blow air inside the connection using your mouth. The same solution as option #3 with little more consistently.
5. I noticed if you un mount the data card from inside the phone settings, then plugging the phone into the USB cable you will get better results.
6. Advice, if you get it to work on one PC, just use that particular PC. Do not ask me why, I have a vista 64 and XP 32 PCs, my problem started when I was switching back and forth between both PCs.
7. Now it is working great on my VISTA 64 and I hope it will stay that way.
Good Luck Guys

Ok, got my phone(mytouch) to work. My problem was that whille connected by usb cable, I was not able to see a usb symbol in the notification bar and also my PC (windows XP) was not recognizing the device (gave some error). I tried all my office PCs (all XPs) and nothing worked. Although earlier this was not the problem.
I then tried my home PC (windows 7) and suddenly I saw the usb symbol on the notification bar like I used to see b4. I mounted it and then switched off USB. Then again tried it on my xp PC and it again started working. I, now, think it must have been because in past I may not have dismounted(switched off usb) properly.
In summary, try it with a pc with wind 7 or vista.. It should work(if at all it is the same problem) The forum was useful... thanks everyone for writing!
|Re: No "mount" options shows when USB connected to pc.||dan.olsen||1/31/10 12:08 AM|
You will not see a notification when plugging into USB if you enable "USB debugging" under "Home" | "Settings" | "Applicaitons" | "Development". You may have selected this option by accident, or because some application asked you to. Turn this setting off, and your USB connection behavior will probably go back to what you were used to.
If the "USB debugging" option is checked you will not get the USB connected alert, or see any prompt to mount the SD card. If you try to use an application to mount USB for you like "MountUSB", it will not recognize that the USB is connected.
An easy way to check if the data channel is actually working (to make sure your problme is not due to cables or ports are broken, dirty, etc), is to open windows device manager (WinKey + "Pause Break" then "Device manager" (on the hardware tab on older versions of windows)).
With Windows device manager open, if you plug in the USB to your phone and the list of devices in windows immediatly clears and refreshes, you can know that the data connection works even if software settings on either side have decided not to do anything about the new connection.

I just encountered this issue where I had no problem previously. I had the g1 connected to my Mac (OS X 10.4) but the device wouldn't mount.
I turned the phone off and on again and it mounted immediately.
Hope I don't have to do this every time...

Hi, I've the same problem... when I connected for first time, it's worked, but now I can't mount my nexus like a usb device.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and Nexus One 2.1-update1.
No debuging option enabled, and the cable works fine.
When I connect the mobile to the pc the dmesg commands show me:

Hi, I had the same problem, but a shutdown startup fixed it. I don't know about the rest of you, but this started for me right after my first use of the usb to audio adapter. If anyone else has used this as well, it is possible that it is "stuck" in that mode and not switching to data mode.
Another possibility is that if you were playing media on the phone and paused (not shutdown the app), it can't mount the SD Card cause it is in use. will have to test some more for that one.
