How do I add multiple addresses to my map from an Excel spreadsheet? rachelcederberg 1/31/09 2:30 PM
Is it possible to upload an entire data base to Google Maps?

If I use the Spreadsheet mapper, does this make a public map, or is it private?  I can't figure out how to "choose" private as it shows up as "created by others".

Is this info for Google Maps Mobile or for PC?
It is no problem putting all the name into a PC, but in Mobile, after a certain amount of names, if freezes and resets.

Hi leoesch,

you didn't specify your problem happen on Mobile Maps so I supposed you are asking for GoogleMaps on PC  (which is the scope of this forum here).
If you would have done this I would have been hinting you to post this to the appropriate help forum for Google+Mobile [1]

that batchgeocode.com was a real good link.  good post

Batchgeocode.com is great!  Here's a couple of things I learned: 1) Before uploading to www.batchgeocode.com, you can add or remove any columns you want.  And, (2) you have to have the first column named "Title" in your spreadsheet before you upload it to www.batchgeocode.com.  Any column heading other than "Title" will return A question mark for the title of the marker.  (I had tried "Customer".  Got a "?")  Obviously, what you put in the "Title" column is what will return as the title on the marker.  (I only figured this out AFTER I entered 141 customer names into the title area of the markers.)

I believe "Spreadsheet Mapper" will make the results public.

@BharathBitarchiect:
take a look to the other thread in [1] where you posted the same/similar query

I have been able to do this reasonably successfully. However I cannot load up more than about 400 addresses. Anyone found this is an error.

Very helpful,  Thanks

Want to really thank Orts!  Went to 'batchgeo.com' (have to check if the same as 'batchgeocode.com') but this really made things easy!
Could just load up an address list into the 'Address' field of their 'active spreadsheet' site -- letting all of the other 'fields'/collumns automatically get 'zero'd out'
Then, as per your suggestion, put 'Title -- ' in the first Town/City, State + Zipcode' address entry(could be put in either before or after copy/pasting the list into the batchgeo site)
Hit the Map Now -- which told me that "No columns that can be geocoded are selected, check Step #2." -- with an 'OK' button below
Hit the 'OK' button"
Then going to "Step 2: Columns & Options" the window says:
We need to know which column is which, make sure at least one address column is selected.
So after setting Region -- Auto-Detect(with a drop-down list, choose ->) 'United States'
For each of the initial 'none' specifications below, clicking on the 'drop-down' button will automatically choose the first address on the list.
Since each has something that qualifies/is 'ok' for that 'line item', it is accepted.  So:
  Location / Address     -- 'none' -> Title -- Colombia, Pa 17512
  City / County             -- 'none' -> Title -- Colombia, Pa 17512
  State / Province / Postal Code  -- 'none' -> Title -- Colombia, Pa 17512
  Zip / Postal Code / Country     -- 'none' -> Title -- Colombia, Pa 17512 ]

Then clicked the “Run Geocoder” button  etc.
All of the other(non-Colombia, Pa) Addresses were accepted, & the map marker addresses(under the Description window] for the map 'marker pins' noted without any 'default '?'s'

Now, after at least this batch of addresses is on 'my map', I would greatly like to:
1) Find some travel stop/contact optimizer -- so if I put in eg. a 'begin' & 'end' point re. any of various roads/highways, I will get the 'best route sequence' from one marker to the other.
Using the Google 'Direction' option, after inputing the first 2 addresses, if add any further number of 'destinations' you just get a
a)  'Zigzag' course that eventually 'hits' all of the markers -- each re. the order they were added, vs. the desired
b) 'Optimized route' from nearest to next marker
c) With no way of eg. first outlining a road sequence to set the 'priority line of travel' from which contacts should be made.
d) & No way to set eg. some 'distance limitation' (eg. 30 mi. from route of travel) to limit what points are even worthwhile considering.

 The above is the totally usual 'Traveling Salesman' problem.  I realize that one might not be able to get the 'absolute most efficient' contact route -- but in most cases a 'sort of best' route should be evident & mappable.
& if there were some way to set a 'distance limit' filter/cutoff, that should make it even easier.
 Especially if the result could then be input into a GPS -- which many of the 'mapping app.s' are now doing.
 In addition, I believe that many of the GPSs allow 'Waypoints'(= 'Markers) to be put in, along with the traveler's 'route' choices -- & the GPS will plan/show the 'Waypoint' contact sequence.
 So this shouldn't this be do-able re. Google, &/or some other compatible app?
 [Have a Mac -- hopefully not a problem]

@bftsplk:

I got from you a very long question via my contact form which is in fact not only one but more questions.
And it is mixing suggestions and questions.
All toghether it seems to be very complex and to exceed the subject of this thread wihich is  "How do I add multiple addresses to my map from an Excel spreadsheet?" and honestly I can't answer your direct send question from my actual skill:
I have no experience with http://www.drivingrouteplanner.com or converting the gpx-file you can extract from "drivingrouteplanner" and no experience in converting a  gpx-file into a KML-file.

Therefore I recommend to start a new thread about your complex problems and perhaps other users will have more help for you as I can give now.
Best Regards

I found that http://www.drivingrouteplanner.com takes too long, for shortest distances, it is much easier to use http://www.mapquest.com/routeplanner.  It's got the same limit (~26 entries)..

As far as mapping many locations, the web sites listed above are useful before inputting 26 entries into Mapquest, so that you can break it down to find the shortest driving route.

Here's another bulk-address-entry site I found that proved to be useful for me:

http://www.communitywalk.com/bulk/edit

This one seems to be less picky about the addresses (you can put the complete address on one line, here, rather than having to separate the city, state, and zip).
Re: How do I add multiple addresses to my map from an Excel spreadsheet? webcabbie 7/30/11 11:56 PM
So I have an excel file of all the register voters in my city. I want to import this file(22,000 names etc.) into some kind of mapping software to get a visual representation of what areas of my city are most densely populated with voters.

For obvious reasons I would like this to be something that only I can see. Is there a way for Google Maps to help me with this?
