Remove stored address searches from Google Map Mongo4me 6/17/09 11:53 PM
Hi,

This seems to be a privacy issue.  How can someone delete the old addresses that  with google map?  They are kept forever!

Thanks!

Hi Mongo4me,

Here's how you clear your search history in Google Maps:

1. To the right of the search box, you'll see an arrow pointing down. Click on it.
2. Click on "Edit saved locations" at the bottom of the box that pops up. (If you don't want Google Maps to save any of your future searches, you can also uncheck the box that says "Save locations automatically".)
3. Check the boxes to the left of all the searches you want to delete. You can also chose to select all by using the link at the top.
4. Click "Delete".

Let me know if you have any trouble.

I have the same problem, but there is no down arrow unless you sign in.............When I sign in, clear the check box...delete searches it works for my logged in account.  When I log out....the searches I just got rid of come right back..........any ideas ? ? ? ? ?

To chuckgraham: Try deleting your cookies. It sounds like it might be on your computer's end instead of Google's. Perhaps some sort of "autocomplete" feature. Ensure that all those settings are turned off in your web browser, delete your cookies and temp internet files, and see if it still happens.

This does not, however, tell you how to get rid of the searches.  For some reason one of the early searches [restaurants in NYC] comes up every time I log into Google Maps.  I would like my home address to appear, but nothing I do seems to be able to get rid of it.

To baseonballs:

RE: 1. To the right of the search box, you'll see an arrow pointing down. Click on it.

4. Click "Delete".

It doesn't work as described. There are no such options when the down arrow is clicked. Please adv. Thanks.

The feature that baseonballs refers to has now been retired from Goggle Maps

Strangely, Google Maps is still trying to autocomplete only 3 addresses for me.  I understand, regrettably, that Saved Locations is now defunct (boooooo, Google!), and my Web History is fully disabled (by choice).  Those 3 addresses are even only a subset of what I used to have in Saved Locations and don't even match the content of the KML file that Google has made available for download.  What's worse is that they don't even have any relevance for me anymore; they're old home work addresses I'll never use again.

I've tried enabling Web History and deleting all content several times and then re-disabling WH, but that doesn't work.  I have no idea where those autocomplete suggestions are coming from or how to remove them.  Having tried this on multiple computers and having cleared every bit of cache I can find (on my computer and my Google account), I'm beginning to think I don't have any control over it.  But it's getting frustrating, especially after losing Saved Locations, to have 3 addresses I'll never want to use ever again, suggested to me every time I begin typing a character matching any of those locations.

Anyone else having a similar experience?

Sounds like your browser auto-complete.

When they appear try using the down/up arrows to select one, and press delete key. Repeat until all three gone.

I'd be right there with you if it wasn't for this part:

"Having tried this on multiple computers and having cleared every bit of cache I can find (on my computer and my Google account), I'm beginning to think I don't have any control over it."

This follows me wherever I go.  Multiple computers, multiple browsers, etc.  Google is storing it somewhere, and I don't believe I have access to delete it.

I feel like I've threadjacked an old, solved issue, so I'm going to start a new thread, which I know I should've done in the first place.

Here's how you delete your searches from your mobile phone. There are different steps for different phone. Open up the Google Map App. Go to HELP. Scroll down to RESET GOOGLE MAP. And follow the instructions that appy to your ✆ phone. Good luck.
