Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Francesco Pantera 8/10/13 3:42 AM
Having the same screen, same issue. Had it with Firefox 22 about half an hour ago, then upgraded to 23, still having the problem. Running on Windows XP SP3
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Alexander Murvanidze 8/10/13 4:00 AM
Same problem. FF23, XP SP3.
Having cleared cache, cookies, tried to use a nulled profile - nothing helps.
I can access pages themselves, photo albums, etc, but my own profile and basic pages are blocked.

Some keywords for other who's looking for solution:

google plus firefox 23 not supported
google plus firefox 23 не поддерживается
Google+ больше не поддерживает ваш браузер. Его необходимо обновить.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? ミ★ღ ραυℓ ღ★彡 8/10/13 4:08 AM
This might be a temporary issue. Please follow the below troubleshoot steps and check if this solves the problem:-
  1. Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  2. Close and refresh your page.
  3. Log out from Google+, Restart your PC and sign in again.
  4. Disable any third party extensions/add-ons.

I will escalate this issue and update when I have news!

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Suzi Olsen 8/10/13 5:13 AM
You should be seriously looking into this. It's pathetic that us users can't get in and you guys just don't do anything. It's a complete waste of time.
This is not a temporary issue. Fix the thing up for all of us

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Alexander Murvanidze 8/10/13 5:33 AM
This didn't fix for me. Three physical XP pro SP3 Workstations with both Firefox 22 and 23. I first thought it's because of Firefox 23 had been released, i then checked - and yes, FF 23 is out. But after update it didn't work neither.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Alexander Murvanidze 8/10/13 5:38 AM
This is all done to force users migrate to chrome, IMO.
I already had Chrome installed, and everythind is ok in it. But if I hadn't, I'd for sure consider trying it because of this issue with ff.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Dzmitry Mazouka 8/10/13 5:43 AM
having the same problem - got it first today on ff22 and still occurs on ff23.
i thought google would have better quality policies for their products.

Yep lots of people are having this issue.  Tried everything, it's not working.  Google need to escalate the issue.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? John Chan 8/10/13 6:30 AM
Just tried, changing user-agent fixes everything, so Google only needs to change couple numbers, that's all the work.

Same problem. FF23, XP SP3.

Ok this morning now "browser no longer supported" error message.

Same here.
Is this XP-FF23 issue only ? Anyone had this problem on any other operating system ?
It works on Android 4.1, as much as that's related.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Dzmitry Mazouka 8/10/13 7:13 AM
apparently the problem reproduces only if you use this link - https://plus.google.com/u/0/
with this one it seems to be working - https://plus.google.com/stream
so don't click on "Google+" logo and it should be fine.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Dzmitry Mazouka 8/10/13 7:16 AM
disregard my last comment. you have to sneak into your google+ profile first and then get access to everything else.

This here is better tip :
"Simple solution would be to download some addon like User Agent Overrider(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/user-agent-overrider/) to change your browser user agent to Chrome 27 or IE10
"
from http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/967566 linked above.

Works for me.

Ha, I can even load Google+ in IE 8, XP SP3 bun not FF 22 or 23.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Terry Canaan 8/10/13 8:21 AM
For now, you can try using the IE tab addon. Worked for me, but here's hoping Google gets their act together, so this isn't a permanent solution.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Donna Fernstrom 8/10/13 10:31 AM
It's not that.  A lot of us already tried that.  Even tried resetting the agent per Firefox support's instructions. :)  Didn't work.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Donna Fernstrom 8/10/13 10:33 AM
I'm not using Chrome.  I simply won't use Google+ until they fix it. Since a huge number of other people won't be using it, either, I'm not really missing much. :P

I don't think this is a nefarious plot, I think it's a big old programmer oopsie.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 10:49 AM
Same here, but I noticed something was noted in another post, I am thinking it might be the Operating System because anyone using NTOSKRNL 5.0 version maybe getting blocked at this level, unless Google's Ploy is for people to use Chrome or IE in the event of Firefox Still supporting XP and 2000, for some reason Microsoft might be doing this as a ploy for us to use the latest OS and more Secure Browse, this is sick and this comes after Facebook bans me for commenting on Fan Pages, I have to wonder if the target for Operating Systems seems to be the case if the Browser is not to blame...
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? János Kiss 8/10/13 10:50 AM
imho it's a firefox-only issue.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 11:07 AM
I al most Certian it is Operating System issue, forcing people to upgrade to Windows 8, looks like they are going to out source any OS that still has the "Classic View" setting still present, and my guess is seeing Google+ does not like this at all, I think this crying foul if Microsoft is Forcing this issue for EVERYONE to upgrade to Windows 8, then I smell an Anti-Trust Lawsuit coming...
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? shawnkmaloney 8/10/13 11:28 AM

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 11:36 AM
I think Firefox is being targeted by Google and Microsoft again, because the fact is, Firefox still works on older OSes which could explain the issues to this update Google did, and I am sure that with IPv6 currently on, it means they can use methods to block the OS and even if your later version of Firefox is supported, the OS will be targeted by the checks, I think we are on the verge of Microsoft's mercy to force us to use IE instead of Firefox, by Deadlocking the User-Agent via IPv6 function.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Pale Moon 8/10/13 12:05 PM
Pale Moon developer here - I was alerted to this issue by users on my own forum, and apparently it's caused by strict UserAgent filtering.

Excuse me, Google site developers - but don't you know that UserAgent sniffing is extremely bad practice, and something that was already frowned upon many years ago?

If you need to know a browser's capabilities, do not use the UserAgent string but actually do browser capability detection. Please FIX this asap.

You just have to :-

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 12:15 PM
I suspect the GOP Lobbyists might have used this in order to serve Microsoft their "Just Desserts" to lock out more people of their freedom to speak, you know Facebook is doing a similar thing, and they use "Censoring" tactics that ban users from specific functions on Facebook, I think right now this is not a good time for the internet, and if they keep restricting, this could go into protests...

And there was no Use Agent update noted by Google, they did not even update their Browser Compatibility Page either, so I smell a Dirty Trick they paying with users online...

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Kevin Trieu 8/10/13 12:22 PM
I am having the same problem on FF 21 on XP. Also, I am surprised that some of you think that this is some kind of conspiracy. It's probably just an error on some programmer's part who mistyped a field for the user agent or something like that.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 12:24 PM
Well right now I suspect the GOP are making their move to lock out even more people that conspire against them, and right now this looks very similar to what they did to Facebook by adding more "Spam" filters that are useless or are Bigoted, or in this case with Google Mangle with "User-Agent" strings, this is getting ugly in the worse kind...
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Brandon Glosson 8/10/13 12:26 PM
Same error here.  Upgrading to Firefox 24 did nothing.

Here's the fix for now:

1.Go to your Firefox Add-Ons menu in your Firefox Browser.
2. Search for and Install User-Agent Overrider
3. Restart Your Browser
4. A new icon will appear to the right of your search box for the User-Agent Overrider Add-on.  Click on it and select one of the Chrome user-agents.
5. Try out Google Plus again.

It worked for me.

And yes, it is totally retarded that this was necessary.  I'm sure Google will get it fixed asap.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Victor Fomino 8/10/13 12:31 PM
Checked again on Win 7 Pro 64 bit. with updated Firefox 23 and it is working !
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jörgen Andersson 8/10/13 12:44 PM
64-bit OS (with WOW64 in user agent) + Firefox = OK
32-bit OS + Firefox = NOK
32-bit OS (with faked WOW64 in user agent) + Firefox =OK

Seems to error out on the lack of "WOW64" in the UA string.

Solution - get User Agent Override and go plussing again.
The Firefox 22/Windows setting in UAO works fine, as it has the "WOW64" in the user agent string.

Good luck!

PS - Google should fix this ASAP!
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Victor Fomino 8/10/13 12:49 PM
Should, or will fix it?
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 12:52 PM
That means the User-Agent Encoding is only accepting 64-bit OS systems only using the WOW64 Encoder, it looks like that blocks about 80% of the Systems from using Google Plus since it is a Strict "OS" ID system, one way to eliminate about 70% of the Google+ users unless you upgrade your hardware to run 64-Bit OSes, really, Google just filtered all 32-Bit OSes from using the site, wonderful...
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? ミ★ღ ραυℓ ღ★彡 8/10/13 1:09 PM
Hi All,

I've already escalated this issue to Google Community Managers. However as you can understand, it's not easy to get solution in weekends. So you can follow the below tricks temporarily to access Google+ on Firefox:-
  1. Use "What's Hot" link to enter Google+:- https://plus.google.com/u/0/explore
  2. Use User Agent Overrider Add-on for Firefox(change your browser user agent to Chrome 27 or IE10):- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/user-agent-overrider/
Source - Mozilla Support forum:- http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/967566
  3. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies.
  4. Use a different browser.

Please have patience.

Thank you,
Paul

(Marking this reply as "Best Answer" so that everyone can see and able to access Google+. The issue has not solved yet.)

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Brandon Glosson 8/10/13 1:09 PM
After further testing, this solution isn't totally clean either.  I was trying to reply to a Google+ post and the response box would not take input from my keyboard.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jill McAfee 8/10/13 1:30 PM
I am not sure this is a Google issue.  I am able to login to Google+ fine through IE.  I also noticed that some of the Firefox plugins are not working properly anymore.  For example, I could no longer play music previews on Amazon.com - clicking play popped up a dialog asking me if I wanted to open or download the file, neither option did anything.  Again, it worked fine in IE.  I think this is some sort of Firefox issue.  I filed a report with Mozilla.  My first thought was that my computer had a virus!  But since so many people are having this issue, I guess it is Firefox.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jeffrey Hyde 8/10/13 2:07 PM
Well anyone on a 32-Bit OS is screwed, knowing that the "Privacy Policy does include your OS, but also Hardware Information as this part reads,

"Device information

We may collect device-specific information (such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information including phone number). Google may associate your device identifiers or phone number with your Google Account."

In other words Google can lock you out if you are using outdated hardware or hardware that is not 64-Bit Compatible...

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Jörgen Andersson 8/10/13 2:10 PM
Try using the Firefox 22/Windows option in UAO or reload the page.
I had the same issue as you (input box not taking any keyboard chars) but after selecting Firefox 22/Windows and going to another page then back to Google+ seems to have fixed it.

I am running the option Firefox 22/Windows (on a 32-bit XP) and it works for me.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? jeremy 8/10/13 2:15 PM
I'm just here to say that this sucks, BIG TIME.

I just started a collaborative project on Google Drive - last night- matter of fact and today I was going to do some work on it. Glad I kept a separate text file on my comp. I even cautioned my partner about it the other day, about using Google's + services and their instability due to their autocratic way of upgrading/ changing these things.

I'm on Win XP SP3, Firefox 23 32-bit btw... and no, I cannot afford to upgrade to 64-bit, Win 7 or 8, nor will I install Google Chrome. I do not care if someone is an elite web-dev, IT user, or just a savvy net user that comes on here with a holier-than-thou attitude, telling me what I should be doing. What is beyond this comfort zone, is NOT prefrrable. I've researched my problem, and I know what it is, and know the solution, but I very much like the current way I do things.

I guess this means that if Google and whatever corporate douche-bags that chose to roll this shit out don't take responsibility for a whole hell of a lot of people, then that means, goodbye.

I may never pay/ use another Google product ever again, just like I chose with Apple. And no, I won't buy an Android tablet in the future if this seemingly nonchalant, adapt or die attitude continues to be the norm.

And to think I was touting Google+ Hangouts and what great things were possible with it.

Thanks.

(not really)

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Ayatollah Fenderbender 8/10/13 3:02 PM
The answer is that Google is run by fucking idiots who spend more time trying to spy on you in order vomit up shitty advertisements that no one ever clicks on, rather than actually maintain a functional website. These aggregator companies are the product of a distorted market created by endless government regulations and you basically can't expect them to do shit; no matter how good their base product is they will inevitably run it into the ground because their own success leads them to ever more labyrinthian incentive distortions. Google is just Yahoo 2.0, as Yahoo is forever in 1997 so Google will always be stuck in 2005.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Vulpes 8/10/13 4:24 PM
Seriously, does people at Google understand the concept of testing their updates before rolling it out to public and screwing people over?

This isn't the first time this has happened. Over the past year, I've had scores of problems with Google products that clearly indicates little or no testing prior to rollout. For instance: did anyone try to turn off notification on Hangout chat on Android? Who the hell in their right mind places a warning that big that doesn't go away for an action user explicitly has to initiate?

This sort of nonsense might have been fine when you guys were just an up and coming new kids on the block, but when so many people use your services, it's no longer acceptable. Get it through your head.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? swhlaw 8/10/13 4:24 PM
I tired user agent overrider in firefox 26 nightly on xp but that did not work either even when changed to the wonderful chrome

This may be the future of firefox. google pissing you off so you eventually go to chrome. The alliance between google and ff now is not good

sounds like the old MS days of the browser that could not be removed from the OS. I seem to recall a little anti trust action on that one

Still having this issue.  Changing the user-agent lets me see my google+ profile, but doing so prevents the google+ pages from recognizing my keyboard.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Bunny Mingo 8/10/13 7:55 PM
Okay, tried the https://plus.google.com/u/0/explore and can get to What's Hot. From there you can get to your Home page, so that works. However if you Leave your Home page you can't get back, you get the "Browser no longer supported" message. So far you must got to What's Hot and then Home :0)
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Whuffo 8/10/13 8:55 PM
The workarounds are not working correctly; it does allow you to view pages and reply to posts, but the "Share what's new" box remains non-functional so no new posts can be created.

It was apparently easy enough to roll out defective code on the weekend - why is it so hard to roll out a fix?

Not true, it's working fine in Opera, just not in FF 22 or 23.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Dennis Harris 8/11/13 2:55 AM
My problem is that I started getting numerous email notices about Google+ when I had turned off all notices, and when I try to access "settings" to change the settings back to what they were, I'm told that I need to update Firefox even though I have done so.  I DON'T WANT CHROME OR INTERNET EXPLODER, I JUST WANT THE DAMN MESSAGES TO STOP, NOW.

Add me to the "cannot enter in 23" list. Oddly enought the "what's hot" trick works...

User Agent Overrider (Firefox Add-on) works for me, too. Selected "Firefox 22/Linux" to camouflage my Firefox 22 on XP and now I have access to my G+ profile again.

Lots of drama with Google this year, lots of drama. :-/

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Khaled Hishma 8/11/13 6:06 AM
I DO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM....WHY THESE ISSUES ALWAYS HAPPEN WITH GOOGLE?????? AND WHY NOTHING IS DONE OR TAKE TOOOOOOOOOO LONG TO SOLVE????????
I have firefox running on Windows 8.  Just updated Firefox to the latest version, 23.0.  Google+ will not run in Firefox now.  It comes back and tells me that the browser needs to be updated and is not supported.

This is clearly a problem on google+ side as the browser is new, the OS is new and the servers are just not recognizing the latest version of Firefox.

I am assuming I am not the only one who has this issue.  hopefully google will fix this shortly.

This fix from theo ade saputra posted last night works for me:

Manually open the about: config in mozilla firefox, then add

general.useragent.override

and fill it with

string Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; abecede; rv: 23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0

It's been working fine since I did this. Give it ago! :)

No, it is not a joke, the application stopped working, i have Firefox 21 and does not work, try to upgrade Firefox to version 22 and nothing, then move on to the next update (23) and nothing gives the same result, clean the cache and cookies and nothing, and only able to access using this url https://plus.google.com/u/0/explore

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Peter Groen 8/11/13 8:32 AM
I always use Firefox. Upgraded as instructed and it still doesn't work with Google+  Is this a gimmick to get everyone to switch to Chrome? Is it just bad testing? A major bug? Google doesn't have staff on weekends to fix this?

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Illutian Kade 8/11/13 9:39 AM
It seems this might be related to Windows XP.
Firefox Portable v23.0

Loads Google+ and my G+ Profile just fine.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Bunny Mingo 8/11/13 9:50 AM
Just tried this, it works.

To add a new string on the page, right click anywhere and select "New" then fill in with:

general.useragent.override

hit okay then fill in the field with:

string Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; abecede; rv: 23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0

Just tried this fix, and then my G+ page loaded perfectly.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? (unknown) 8/11/13 10:00 AM
I had Chrome, and will never switch back. If a service won't work with Firefox, I'll do without that service. Chrome extensions aren't persistent, and Chrome itself frequently pops up "Sync failed" errors. Google plus is now repeatedly asking if I want to continue running a script which timed out. No such problems with facebook. As a competitor to facebook, Google+ is an unreliable failure.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Ian MacEwan 8/11/13 10:10 AM
I have Win XP SP3 also. Got here the back way so to speak. It works but too slow, & too many error messages to be usable on a regular basis. I won't use Google plus until Google fixes it, and maybe not then: too unreliable.

Hi there,

I finaly found a way to fix this.

I upgraded to FF 23 without any success and I found I disabled "Java" from my "Web Developer" extention menu. I re-enabled it and cleared cookies for plus.google.com and every thing is now working fine.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Bruce Heard 8/11/13 10:18 AM
Thanks for posting this.  I'm sure this is a great solution, except that those of us who aren't up to speed on this stuff can't follow your directions.

You say:  "Manually open the about: config in mozilla firefox"
Where do I go for that?  What links do I click?

You say:  "Manually open the about: config in mozilla firefox"
Where's that?

You say:  "and fill it with..."
Fill what?  "It" being what?

Get the idea?  Thanks.

for some reason firefox nightly works on win 7 but not xp. So I dont think its a firefox problem specifically
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Scott Remington 8/11/13 10:24 AM
No, Google did it on purpose.  To force people into using one of their bloated, buggy products.  If they don't fix it, G+ is going the way of facebook, ie. the trash.
Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Scott Remington 8/11/13 10:32 AM
Exactly!  I found the addon "User Agent Overrider" but don't understand what is supposed to be entered/changed/whatever.

Follow-through is important people!  I guess a lot of these people have never worked in technical Customer Service before.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Lee Relph 8/11/13 11:08 AM
Hi,

Type "about:config" in your browser address bar and a page will appear. It will have a cheeky warning message about dragons but just okay that.

A new page will appear with a list of items. Right click anywhere on the page and box will appear. Select "new" and another box will appear. Select "string" and add

general.useragent.override

and okay that then in the second box which will appear to which you add

string Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; abecede; rv: 23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0

Okay that, shut the window down and the problem should be solved! :)

Hope that helps.

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Kaleh 8/11/13 11:11 AM
@Scott Remington

I don't know who you are referring to when you mention "I guess a lot of these people have never worked in technical Customer Service before."  Please note that the forum is rarely monitored by Google employees over the weekend.

Even when they are monitoring, most of the responses are going to be provided by other users.  They may or may not be able to craft a response that covers every single possibility, especially taking into consideration different user circumstances and skill/knowledge.

Since some people have been able to use the instructions provided by a "Top Contributor" (volunteer ... not employee) in the forum, if one of those options (listed in the "Best Answer" on page 1 of this topic, doesn't work for you (either because your circumstances may be unique, or because you don't understand the instructions) I would encourage you to consider all of the options that were suggested.

If none of those work, perhaps another helpful user may be able to provide additional potential work-arounds until someone from Google has any further suggestions or updates regarding the status of the issue.

Both Google and Firefox engineers need to do more testing!! It is not acceptable for Google to not test the beta releases of major web browsers! And, Firefox developers also should test their beta software against major websites!!

How about reading a book like this, "How Google Tests Software":
http://books.google.ca/books/about/How_Google_Tests_Software.html?id=vHlTOVTKHeUC

Re: Firefox 23 not supported??? Scott Remington 8/11/13 1:03 PM
Thank you for providing the extra details to get this to work!  This is exactly what I was referring to - concise instructions a regular individual can follow.

One piece of clarification though - when you get to the point to enter the "Mozilla" string, you do not enter "string" at the beginning, simply enter "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; abecede; rv: 23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0" (without the quotes) and restart FF.

I was able to get into my G+ home screen (for now)...
