|Is there a FAST way to delete ALL MAIL - want to delete my entire archive as I am out of space...||maplecate||7/20/09 6:14 AM|
Is there a fast way to delete all my mail that is in my archive. Right now it seems all I can do is delete 50 messages at a time which with over 60K messages is going to take forever, THEN I have to empty the trash.
Is there a way I can wipe out all of my messages quickly.

you have to delete them in a row of 50

Yes there is. I submitted the following to google, but they did not put it on their web site. Shame on google.
So here you go:
I use gmail as a secondary e-mail account. I've had gmail for a long time now, and it had built up over 5400
e-mails. To delete all of the e-mails, google only allows you to select 100 at a time, so the most you can
delete at a time is 100. I would have had to delet 100 e-mails 54 times!!!!
So I found a better way.
This will delete all of your e-mail including your sent e-mail. It will all be put in your trash can. Where you
can then easily delete it for good.
Go to your in box, then go to "Create a Filter". In the from address, enter "*" without the quotes. Click on
"Test Search". It's important that you click on "Test Search". If you don't, it won't work on your existing e-
mails. Click on "Next Step". Select "Delete It". Select "Also apply filter to 5400 conversations below". I had
over 5400 e-mails. Your number will be different. Click "Create Filter".
You have now sent all of your e-mails to the trash can. Now would be a good time to erase the filter before
you forget that it's still there.
Click "Delete" to delete the filter that you just created.
Now go to your trash can and click on "Empty Trash Can Now".
And that's it. All of your e-mails have been deleted.
I recommend that this tip, or a link to this tip, be included in the help files where it gives instructions on how
to delete e-mails.

@Wayne Sallee: Your tip works, but is WAY more work than is necessary. Here is the standard way of doing this:
1. Go to all mail (or any other view where you want to delete all messages in that view).
2. click Select: all at the top.
3. A new link appears at the top of the message list saying Select all #### conversations in All Mail. Click it.
4. Click delete.

LOL I wonder why I didn't see that. I only have 34 in my in box, but have 616 in my spam box. And that option is there plain as day in the spam box. :-)
Google should include your instructions in their help section where it tells how to delete e-mail.
I'm supprized that I didn't see that.

Thank you SO much for your replies - I appreciate it! Task done! I only wish google would have made this easier to figure out as I both tried myself and searched for an answer for over an hour before posting here.
Super help from the community though, you guys are great! Cate
