|Contact Groups - missing||Jorge Barata||1/8/14 1:29 PM|
I have found recently that a few contacts were missing from some of my contact groups. This is a bit strange since those contacts haven´t disappear from other contacts group I have.
Could you please let me know what happened and if there is something I have to do in order to prevent those problems ?
Thanks in advance

Given that the contacts were not deleted it could simply mean that somehow the other groups were removed from this contacts. Depending on what other devices syncs with your GMail contacts, it's hard to speculate. But, when this happens, you can check if restoring the contacts helps.
To restore your contacts, follow the steps suggested below:

I've just posted on a similar problem. I am wondering if my new Note-3 phone, sync'ing with google, has caused a problem. Anyway - I I now seem to have a problem with "restore". I have no access to any drop down menu that leads to 'More actions'. I am strictly following your instruction above. Where my dropdown menue for more actions have gone??

My suggestion to Jorge was based on the fact that he is using a web browser. So if you happen to access your GMail account through an App (Gmail android/android Email) you will not have the same options or the same interface.
Please access your account via a browser (if you have a mobile browser) sign in to Gmail through it and then switch over to desktop view.

I have asked Google to look into this and they requested the following information.
- User's account (email addresses)
- Permission for Google to look into at the users' account info
- Contact(s) dropping out of groups and name(s) of group(s)
- Approximate date and time when user noticed contact dropped from group
- Approximate date when user added contact to group (if you can recall)
Since you are required to post your email address, please post this and wait for couple of minutes (not longer) then edit the post to remove the reference. Once you have given the necessary information and approval, Google can start looking into this.

I am having the same problem! Many of my contacts were removed from their groups (around 300). I still have the contacts, and I still have other people in those groups. For example a group with 150 people now only has 5. Please help!

For an update, please refer to my reply to Jorge above. If you want to participate, please enclose the necessary permission and information.
Also, if you haven't previously, ensure you have a backup of all contacts in a CSV file.

We too are having the same issue with our contacts.....seems like a system wide problem with GMail. Unfortunate for us users as we have no idea the 100's we've lost from specific groups. We use gmail for our business....but may have to look into something else. Please provide updates on this problem as they become available.
|Re: Contact Groups - missing||Somnath.||1/14/14 11:02 PM|
It isn't system wide because it isn't affecting all users. If you are a Google Apps for Business user (reference "We use gmail for our business" ), please pass this by contacting the support you are eligible for.
Also, please refer to my reply to Jorge above. If you want to participate, please enclose the necessary permission and information. If you are a Google Apps user, please also include your domain name.

Same problem here, hundreds of contacts have been removed from various groups!
Interestingly this seems to be a problem occurring multiple times in the system, not a single event! Jorge reported it on Jan 8th (so his group assignment got lost before Jan 8th), for me it was sufficient to restore the contacts as of Jan 12 or 13 (so in my account it happened after Jan 12).
@Somnath: Given the fact that most users are not actively using groups in contacts, they will not notice the problem. The others might recognize it too late and maybe won't speak up. Because of this, for me this indicates that many (or all users) are affected.
|Re: GMail removes/lost contacts from groups||Somnath.||1/15/14 3:19 AM|
I can say with absolute certainty that none of my contacts have been removed from their groups. Furthermore, none of my peers here have reported this for their accounts. So, perhaps many users, but not all users. :)
Anyways, Google is looking into this matter which is a good thing for everyone affected.

This issue happened to me as well, found this thread by googling it.
I restored back 5 days and everything seems back to normal.
Unsure why this happened, kind of annoyed actually, I would not have seen this if I hadn't checked on the name of a doctor in my contacts and saw the list empty.

Same issue. Restored to a date two days prior to the event. Ops normal now.

Same issue here, I use google apps free version. Restored back in one day increments until I saw one of my groups go back to 36 contacts from 1 that was listed there today, had to restore back to January 12th and just noticed the problem this morning.
FYI, the group the had the most lost contacts was named Doctors, probably doesn't matter, because I saw that several of my groups summary numbers changed when I got back to my 1/12 restore date.

I had the same problem and restoring to a week ago worked. Hope this is a one time thing!

This has happened to me as well. I can't restore to an earlier date because I have added too many contacts since I noticed this happened. Its a big problem for me. It will take me hours to get it back to normal.

Me, too! One of my groups, of 13 people, had only one missing. Another had only about 1/3 of a group of 50-60 people. I shudder to think of recreating all of my different groups.
|Re: Contact Groups - missing||Nnylski||1/26/14 4:24 PM|
I have restored the gmail group lists--7 days didn't work so I tried 20. Hope I didn't lose too many updates....
I waited a few minutes to delete my email address. I hope this helps in resolving this fairly wide-spread problem. I didn't notice it until about 4 days ago. I'm glad my husband suggested Google-ing it.
|Re: Contact Groups - missing||AndrewLansford||1/27/14 3:27 PM|
Google please look at my account. I have many contacts which have lost their group memberships.
I'm not willing to restore contacts back any period in time as I keep notes on recent encounters with people and there is no way I could possible recall all the information I would lose.
|Re: Contact Groups - missing||Carolyn Bublitz||2/3/14 3:30 PM|
me too! this sucks. I also don't want to restore to some previous contact list, I will then lose recent additions. not happy at all with the recent OS "upgrade"
|Re: Contact Groups - missing||Tandy Graham||2/14/14 7:54 AM|
I have the same as Somnath and Triahh. Where is the "more actions" under Contacts on the drop down list? I don't have that either. All my group names have disappeared on the drop down list although all my contacts still have the groups I have them listed under in their specs. I can get the whole group to come up on a group email by putting in the group email name but if I can't remember what I named it, then what??

My boss has lost designations from his contacts and restoring has not helped.
