My contacts groups has crashed Trlahh 1/12/14 6:48 PM
I have ~1300 contacts sorted in ~50 groups.
The group system seems to have crashed. Most of the contacts have disappeared from the groups but are still in my contacts list.
could this be a hack or virus?

Are 'groups' backed up by google. Can I recover previous status?

Hi,

There have been quite a few complaints. I'll try to find some information on this.

Groups are backed up in the sense that you can restore them to a point in time to upto 30 days.

These are the steps to restore contacts:
  1. Sign in to Gmail.
  2. Click Gmail at the top-left corner of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts.
  3. From the More actions drop-down menu, choose Restore contacts.
  4. Choose the time you'd like to revert your contacts list to (e.g. 10 minutes ago, one hour ago, one week ago, etc). We suggest that you also make a note of the time that you restore your contacts, in case you'd like to return to where you started.
  5. Click Restore. You'll see a confirmation at the top of the screen when the rollback is complete.
With my best wishes,

This has also happened to me today.

It seems most of my contacts are still present but their assigned groups were dropped on many.

I assume the google team is working on this issue.

Trlaah and Stan50,

I have asked Google to look into this and they requested the following information.

- User's account (email addresses)
- Permission for Google to look into at the users' account info
- Contact(s) dropping out of groups and name(s) of group(s)
- Approximate date and time when user noticed contact dropped from group
- Approximate date when user added contact to group (if you can recall)

Since you are required to post your email address, please post this and wait for couple of minutes (not longer) then edit the post to remove the reference. Once you have given the necessary information and approval, Google can start looking into this.

With my best wishes,

Tried but could not find the "more actions" option on the contacts section. Had one in the Mail section but Restore Contacts not an offered option.

Jon,

We are discussing restoring contacts from the GMail web interface. Sign in to Gmail. Click Gmail at the top-left corner of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts.
From the More actions drop-down menu, choose Restore contacts. Here is a screenshot:
