Explain your issue in full detail here:
I just go the HTC EVO.  My calander and my Gmail sync just fine, however, the contacts on my phone will not sync to my Gmail contacts.  What do I have to do to get that to happen?

I had the same problem. When I went to Settings, then Accounts and sync, there was no Google account there. I added Google, followed the prompts, and my my contacts synced.  HTC link: http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/help/synchronization.

I also cannot get Google Contacts to sync.  Calendar and Gmail sync fine.  I also had a Palm Pre, but have not had the phone contacts synced w/ the Evo...Best Buy was unable to do - I have to go to Sprint Store for that. So...don't think it was caused by having phone contacts synced, as mine are not yet.  I was on phone w/ Sprint Cust Serv 40 minutes...they cannot help either.

i realized my phone HTC EVo had synced all my contacts from google and stored them to phone. and deleted them from google acct  so what is people>menu key>view  then see where u contacts are stored in the phone or google storage in my case mine were in phone instead of google

simple fix once u see what they are stored under most likely phone   then go people>menu key>import export>export to sd card>phone

then go back to people>menu key>import export>import from sd card>creat contact under account   select google >select vcard file >select one vcard file> then select the vcard fiel u exported from phone

then go account settings sync and sync your google acct and all your contacts will be synced hoped this helped feel free to comment or messge me for more help

Spyngamerman got it right!  It works!

ok so i figured out what worked for me and why i had problems. Originally when i had installed the software i did a lot wrong here. the version 2.35 is outdated for the Evo.  If you go directly to the evo page on HTC they have a 2.40 version specifically for the Evo itself. The sync i found can be seen here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/  .  I restarted my computer after installing the sync just to ensure that the drivers were in place even though i was not prompted to do so.  Upon restarting i made certain that the phone was NOT connected to the USB port.  Once everything was loaded i started the sync program and then attached my phone.  Please be certain to go into your settings and under "connect to PC" set the phone to the syncing option.  At this point I caution you to not be that dude/girl/man/women that mindlessly clicks next (like i did) through the install wizard without reading. in one of the prompts it will ask you if you would like to manually sync your phone each connection THE ANSWER IS NO (unless you want to screw around with this more)!!!. set it to automatically sync on connection.  afterwards follow the prompts to sync your phone up by naming the device to your choosing. you should see the program syncing to your phone. upon completion it will ask if you would like to see the log and update the last sync date. at this point you should be good. hope this helps you guys. I just repeated my steps word for word to be certain that there were no assumptions made. I did not intend to insult any of you if someone took it that way. Enjoy.

Spyngamerman fixed my problem with contacts, so maybe he can help with another Evo issue:
My Gmail calendar syncs automatically with my Evo phone calendar.  But when I enter or change a calendar entry on the Evo and autosync, it does not sync back to the Gmail calendar.
Any idea what I can do to fix this?  It's really not convenient to always have to enter into the Gmail calendar.
And I have a MacBook so can't do a hard sync.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Spyngamerman should be advance tech support for Sprint, I wasted an hour and a half on the phone with them today, and after reading your post I fixed my sync problem in 1 minute!!!  Thank u, Thank u, Thank u!!!  If anyone is having problems syncing their contacts do exactly what it says above and it will all be cured!!

Sprint Tech Support was USELESS on this issue.  One hour of my life wasted I cannot get back.  Add that to the 1.5 hours I spent with the CLUELESS employees at the Sprint store who were fumbling with the EVO trying to get it to sync my contacts.  THERE IS STILL NO FIX FOR THIS ISSUE.  F   I    X     IT   HTC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spyngame,
Is that a solution to allow real time syncing or is that a one sync to get a user's contacts initially loaded into the Evo?

"Spyngame,

yes this allows real time syncing once it is in your google contacts as long as your gogle acct is set to sync automatically your good to go

hmm  idk yet about this (sorry for delay i didnt subscribe to notice people answers)  but i would check to make sure google calendar sync is enabled  google  meaning  menu>settings> accounts/sync  then check make sure  first google  is setup tto sync then select your google account then check  that all  boxes are checked where it says  Sync calendar Sync contacts  Sync gmail   sometimes it was left unchecked by accident or etc  try that if that does not work  sign out of your googel acct and then back in  by deleting it under accounts and sync  i would first export your contacts to be safe as always even though google automatically backs up (see my above post for info on that) then resign in and try syncing again   sorry again for the delay feel free to instant message me if you have questions if i can help  would be glad to especially if your and EVO owner :)

spyngamerman........ THANK YOU FOR THAT FIX!!!!! I was on the phone with sprint technical assitance and they told me i had to manually add my contacts to my gmail account. I also found out the same problem on my phone, getting the error "error sync your contact.."
However I did a crazy way but it works.

- Phone to Gmail contact, then Gmail contact to Phone.
When I got a lot of contacts (close to 1000) on my old Sprint phone, I took my old phone and Evo to the Sprint store, they transferred all contact in 2 mins. Then I tried to sync up my phone with gmail contact, it failed with the above error.

A) What I did was "People > Import/Export/Export> Export to SD > Phone"..this will save a VCF file "psxxx.001.vcf" file,  since this file already got all my contact, all I need to put that into my gmail contact.

I connected the USB cable for my phone, The EVO screen under notification, select mount Disk", on your PC, it will show a removable disk under file explorer, (This is what it saved on your Evo SD memory card).

Login you gmail account on your computer, left side, click "My contact", right side click on the tab "More action", select "import", a dialog pop up ask you about the vcard file, click "Browse" and point to the ""psxxx.001.vcf", click ok.

B) You should see all your phone contact listed on your My contact.
Is that all your contact you want? but need to on your phone,..if not, delete the duplicate on..or do whatever you want in gmail contact first.

Getting the contact into you phone: That is the hard part, actually is pretty simple. Make sure you have save all the contact on your phone first(Step A). On your phone, click Application> manage application> All running> contact storage

Click the "Clear data" <---before you click it,..ask yourself...did you do the backup on Step A), click the "Clear data" will wipe out your phone contact, and we will sync those contacts back later.

Click "Clear data", if you already got the contact backup. Now, go to People...nothing else "except Me contact" one person. Don't blame on me if you didn't backup your contact I already mention 3 times. =)

Now turn off your phone by holding the top power button, and click "Power off" on the screen. When it turn off, hold the power button, and wait for the phone power on. Once it power up,and the phone is ready, click Menu button, Account & sync, select your gmail account, and Sync contact...and wait and wait..it should complete without any error.

Go to Menu, People....you should see all your phone contact which is exactly what you saw on gmail contact under "My contact" on Step B).  Are you happy now?

Hi mluvw47 and eveyone
I completely agree with mluvw47's way to do.
Describing the process simple , (1)Backup (2)Clear up (3)Restore.
We have to know every single contact(people) and every single group has it's ID.
If some data -- contact/group -- remain in phone or Gmail during restoring process, it can be a seed of trouble.
Actually "(2)Clear up" is an action which requires courage, isn't it. So I use
a very useful tool to make a backup and restore. That is Synchronicity.
http://www.egg-on-egg.com/
I knew it a few month ago, but I've found it upgraded to be a backup/restore/edit tool
for Gmail addressbook recently. I think it is worth to try.
