Removed from inbox (IMAP) doesn´t disappear in gMail inbox tjompa 12/15/09 12:40 PM
When I move a mail from the inbox on the computer (IMAP) it´s still in the inbox in the webmail. The same happens when i hit backslash and "fakeing" a deleating (just removing the inbox-label).

The strange thing is that if i deleate a mail the right way, moving the mail to Trash it´s all working. It moves from the online inbox to trash as supposed to.

It´s a rather big problem because I use Mail.app, the webmail and my glorious iPhone equal over a day.

Did you enable the Advanced IMAP Controls, and disable auto-expunge?  If so, the labels will not be removed from the deleted messages until you expunge the folder.  (It may show as "purge" or "remove deleted" or something similar, in Mail.app.)

Thanks for the feedback,

Enable Adv. IMAP = Check
Disable auto-expunge = Check
(both as described in a lot of posts all over the web)

Maybe I´m just stupid but I don´t understand "If so, the labels will not be removed from the deleted messages until you expunge the folder.  (It may show as "purge" or "remove deleted" or something similar, in Mail.app.)"

I´ve tested some more now and nothing I do to the inbox on the computer (except moving to trash) will reflect in gmail (web). Not removing the inbox-label (like "archiving"), moving to a different folder (giving a new label), no nothing.

When auto-expunge is disabled, the messages are only marked as deleted when you delete them, but this has no effect on the Gmail browser interface.  The labels will not be removed until you expunge*.  I do not have access to Mail.app, so I do not know how expunging is implemented in that program.  What you need to do is find a menu option or button to do it.  Different email programs label it differently, but the action you want is to remove the deleted items.

*Deleting in IMAP is a two stage process.  First the message are marked, then, at some later time, the marked messages are actually removed.  The second step is the EXPUNGE.  Gmail's default configuration is to automatically expunge the deleted messages, and immediately remove the label.  When you disable the automatic expunge, you need to manually perform the second step.

Thanks for the reply @bkennelly. After more reading/trying I´ve found a solution.

Auto-Expunge
Immediately expunge messages when I mark them deleted in IMAP

AND

When a message is expunged from the last visible IMAP folder:
Archive the message

This leads to:
* When deleating from IMAP/inbox (via backspace) --> removing label "inbox" (reflected on Gmail browser interface) --> viewable via "All Mail"
* When MOVING selected mail to folder Trash the mail will be deleated (reflected on Gmail browser interface)
