how do I make gmail open with the classic view and not the html version? mindscreens 10/3/09 6:17 AM
Explain your issue in full detail here:
When I open my emails in gmail, the html view is displayed and I have to click on the link that says Classic View, to change it to the way I want it.
How can I set up my gmail to use the classic view all the time?
using Mac OSX     and Firefox
thanks

I assume you're referring to Basic HTML mode and Standard mode (rather than "Classic").
If so, at the bottom of your webmail screen, you can click on either standard or basic html to select which mode you're in.
However, they aren't the only "control" as you'll perhaps see when you are logging in. Towards the top of the screen you'll see the progress bar moving to indicate the progress through the connection. If that speed is found to be slow, then Gmail will switch to the basic html mode as this has a lower overhead on the adsl connection bandwidth. If your loading time is taking longer than expected (perhaps because of the contention on the link to the DSLAM) then Gmail will switch without you doing anything. You can still click on the "standard" and the display will switch if it has sufficient bandwidth available.
However, you may well find that as you're using Firefox, you're clearing the cookies each time, and they are what informs Firefox/Gmail of hat mode you were in on the last occasion you connected. Not finding that info could lead Gmail into starting in basic html mode, since it doesn't know any better!!

And a plea for any future postings, please include ALL the information which is requested not just those bits you think might be required. Thanks.

The "Older version" of Gmail has been removed, and is no longer available.
You therefore now have two choices:
1) Either update your browser to a current version and switch to Standard mode, using the "switch" at the bottom of your Gmail display screen
Gmail view: standard | basic HTML  Learn more
or
2) You'll have to use the Basic html version if you wish to use webmail access.

This issue could be resolved by you using an e-mail client program (Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc) to handle your e-mail account instead of using the webmail interface.
