Why can't I forward e-mails with embedded pictures/ basscrankr58 12/17/10 8:51 AM
Explain your issue in full detail here:

I am having the same problem and so are all the people on my contacts list who use Gmail – and this problem has started in the last 10 days to 2 weeks.

I’m running XP with all the latest service patches and had been using IE8 as my default browser and MSE as my security. I use Outlook 2003 as my e-mail program  and have no problem forwarding e-mail with embedded pix from it.

I got into this Gmail problem trying to help my cousin set up her computer. She is running Windows 7 and using IE8. She wanted to use Gmail and I opened a Gmail account as well. From Outlook I can send an e-mail with an embedded picture to my Gmail account. G-mail receives it fine

Same thing with my cousin’s Gmail account. She gets the e-mail opens it and the picture is there but when she forwards it the pix disappears and only the outline with the little box with the red x in the upper left hand corner shows. Naturally, the people she’s sent that e-mail to don’t receive the pictures either.

I’ve read and checked the Help forum continually and none, repeat, none of the posted suggestions resolve the problem. I’ve downloaded and installed Chrome, Thunderbird and Firefox. None of them will let me or my cousin forward e-mails from Gmail thaqt contain embedded pictures. The e-mails forward, the pictures do not.

One thing that I think will work in Gmail is to highlight and copy the guts of an e-mail with embedded pictures, then open a new e-mail form and paste the guts in there, address it and send if off. However one should not have to do that.

The other thing that seems to work is Windows Live Mail. Windows Live Mail is a free Microsoft download and it works BUT through your Gmail or Yahoo mail accounts. That seems a bit cumbersome to me because it leaves you having to go to your Gmail account from time to time and clean it out. You work through Live Mail but your address is xxx...@gmail.com. The messages come to Live Mail but they also are in Gmail. This will forward an e-mail with embedded pictures.

Google really needs to acknowledge this problem and post a solution.

I found this to work.

First Forward Message Back to youself
Then do a "Forward All" to whoever

Forward All shows up on the right side when you open the message you sent to yourself

P.S.  Google with all their money should really fix this quickly

All of those answer are very dissatisfying, too much work. I am sorry I just moved all my mail to gmail from aol because of too much spam. That's the only good thing about google mail, but to have to first forward a message to yourself and then send it on is ridiculous.

You know I just got an Android phone and it seemed logical to step up to gmail.  So, I have made the switch.  Now I see this problem and that is a little disgruntling.  I have friends that send me embedded images all the time that I like to share. I searched gmail for known issues and it appears they are aware of this one.  They said they are working on it and to try another browser for now.  I using XP and IE.  So, I loaded Firefox 3.6.3 and now it seems to be working now.  So, at least for me it is the browser.  I read where firefox didn't work for others, so I suppose it must be a combination of things.  As a side note my Android phone forwards the images ok.

Right at the top of this Forum list is a pinned thread dealing with this very problem, and suggesting temporary fixes whilst the glitch is being dealt with.

I've been using gmail for several years, but always through a mail handler like Outlook or Outlook Express.  I've recently been using Mozilla Thunderbird, since Win7 doesn't have a default mail client.  I've never had the problem that you describe, but I've observed it when others try to use gmail through their web browser.

The simple solution is to use Thunderbird.  It's easy to install, and easy to use, and I've tested it using Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.  My wife uses Outlook Express from XP, and has no problems forwarding or receiving embeded pictures.  We send them back and forth all the time.

Yes they do, and they have responded some time ago, as I have already posted above on 30 Dec..

Try the pinned thread at the top of this forum listing. It not only explains the situation, but also offers a number of temporary workarounds until the glitch gets fixed.

At 2:12am on the 15th, I think on the 15th today, the Google Employee, Kathleen, wrote the following in (as a sticky) another thread covering this issue:

Hi everyone,

Thank you for being so patience as the team worked on this problem--I know it's been a huge annoyance to all of you, and we really appreciate you bearing with us.

The good news is that it should now be fixed! Please make sure to refresh your browser or sign out and sign back in to your account.

Thanks so much,
Kathleen

I am guessing that us regular in-the-trenches members need to spread this around to the other threads on the subject, so I am doing my part now.

BUT, is it true for you that the problem is fixed?
Re: Why can't I forward e-mails with embedded pictures/ bkmeyers 1/15/11 6:33 AM
Still not working:(
Re: Why can't I forward e-mails with embedded pictures/ M.I.H. 1/15/11 6:42 AM
Okey-dokey, let's see if we can do some kind of survey here by posting the lady's answer that it's been fixed in the threads I see in that column on the right and see how many of them indicate the problem hasn't been fixed.

I still wonder if there isn't some sort of better way to handle this thing of so many threads related to the same issue, other than having an administrator whose only job is to go around the forum combining threads. I don't suppose Google, Inc. would want to pay somebody to do that, not to speak of trusting them with the admin tools necessary to do that.

Just goes to show that you can't write a program for everything. Maybe.

I also have signed in and out - NO HELP AT ALL!!!   problem still there - I've not used Google very long, however, if this continues won't use it ANY longer.   Got until 1 Feb 2011 - then I'm gone to Yahoo.

I have'nt been able to send any pictures along with my email for over a month. Your response has been what the Enron people were telling their employee's. Just hang on we are working on the problem and it will soon be fixed. Yea! This has been so frustrating. A billion dollar company can't fix what is not even a problem with other email services. Like the other person above Google has until Feb. 1 to fix this.

Thanks wdurham for noting the separate monster thread about this issue.

Turns out the problem wasn't fixed as we expected -- which you surely know all too well at this point.  Here's what I wrote on the other thread:

"I'm disappointed to hear that this issue hasn't been fixed for all of you.  I know you've been eagerly awaiting a fix for a while.  The team is aware that more work needs to be done to get this fixed for everyone, and when we have more info for you, we'll post it here.  Can't tell you when that will be exactly; very well may not be this weekend, so please squeeze out a little extra patience."

I'm gonna lock this thread so everyone can get the same updates on the other thread.  Hoping to put this issue to bed soon.

Best,
-MrEvan
