I want to schedule an email to send at a later date ashlee.realtor 4/22/09 12:17 PM
Is there a way to compose an email and schedule it to send at a later date and time? I do advertising and often finish my ads before they are due... I'd like to be able to schedule them to automatically send at a specific date and time instead of having to save them as a draft and remember to send them the later.

Sorry, but gmail doesn't have this feature.

I have been up to send a message suggesting this feature. I believe that it will be a great change if you add schedule feature to gmail.

I JUST WROTE GMAIL suggesting the feature.
A brilliant idea with so many possible utilities.
So please, look for the "Suggest a Feature" link in Gmail help and leave a note at the bottom of the page.

Dear Gmail Developers.
Please consider add a schedule feature.
I am serious about time.
Thank you.

I agree.  I appreciate everything Gmail has done to make the email system useful, accessible and customizable.  So many advantages.
Developing a user option to schedule email which needs to be sent at a later date/time would add additional functionality to the system.  At the same time, it would demonstrate Gmail's ongoing committment to the continued development of progressive and practical resources.  Strong emphasis for future lab development.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date KdKP 12/4/09 9:05 AM
I can see the advantage of being able to schedule a Send at a later date, but, for the moment, perhaps one could establish a folder with the date of send and open that on that date and send the emails in it; or just a folder for Send in Future, Send in December, etc. Of course, the first suggestion is probably better for some, but as an intermediate system that might work.

What I would like (and perhaps it exists but I can't find it), is to merely Compose a Draft - without it being part of a reply to an email.  Just a partially worked on response all by itself, which one can work on and when one is ready, Send.  I only see drafts available as autosaves of a response to an email that has already come in.

Thank you,

Karen
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Joshua 12/4/09 9:15 AM
You can get drafts for freshly-composed email. Just choose "compose mail" and start typing. Press "save now" (or wait for the autosave) and a draft will be created. Click back on "inbox" (or anywhere except "discard") and the draft will be retained.

But remember, drafts are easy to accidentally discard (and they can't be recovered from the trash) so they aren't good long-term storage.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Michael James 12/13/09 4:23 AM
Outlook does this and you really shouldn't have to look to a pay site or 3rd party program to do a simple send later type of feature.
If there isn't a technical reason to not add this, it could be just lack of people 'need' or request this feature?... It seems like a perfect NEW Google Labs feature. I no programmer, but something that sends the email then makes the email wait on Google servers in a hold pattern, frozen until the time is matched then its sent to the recipients mail server.  Or maybe its easier than that. Gmail just presses the 'send' button later for you... just as you instructed it to.   Please?...::::Sending all my good Karma telepathy brain waves now:::...   Opens eyes:  Now? ;)  Well, I submitted my request. Maybe they got that instead.

Yes!  PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'd love to send an email for a Christmas card or birthday in ADVANCE so I don't have to think about it later.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date netmater 1/2/10 6:25 PM
Being able to schedule future delivery would make gmail the ultimate mail client.  Please give this serious consideration.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date sb03h 1/5/10 4:25 PM
Concur. "Send later" really should be a feature of gmail. It's one of the features I pine over in Outlook, and each time I need it I regret using Gmail instead of being on Outlook/Exchange.

There's all kinds of legitimate, good-willed reasons that someone would want to send a message in the future. Moreover, currently one can send a message a handful or two of seconds in the future ... what's the difference between that and 5 minutes, 50 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 days. I don't get it.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date shedgpeth 1/7/10 3:03 AM
Yes, I would love this feature. I often work late and its sort of embarrassing if I send an email at 3am. If I could auto send it early in the morning when im actually asleep, it would make me look good :)

I have opened a Gmail Account with the hope that it would be better than my MSN acct - if Gmail implemented a "future send" feature my decision would be a no brainer - can Gmail respond if the logistics make this impossible?

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JuanCalzettaIII 2/18/10 11:23 AM
Google, you have the brilliance and peoplepower to develop anything with ease, so please add a SCHEDULED SEND feature to Gmail.
Google, if you can add a silly social-twitter feature to Gmail (to try to contend with the youngsters), surely a delayed send feature is a piece of cake - and moreover, it's in your core interest to remain the leader in cutting-edge email tech, your strongest service besides Google search thusfar.

But perhaps you don't want to add this? And why? I can't believe that no one there has not thought of this. I just can't.
Thanks,   J.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date befriends 3/6/10 7:20 AM
Oh! please, Google the Giant, do something about it. Instead of wasting hours sending 100 emails at once. At least, this person writing would appreciate scheduling email.

How difficult it is? I don't know, what technicalities are involved, I don't have a clue. But I do know this. Google, will be more popular, more used and more useful --- because this is the single most important feature, I desperately seek, want and feel that it has to be in any of the Big email services available, GMAIL, HOTMAIL OR YAHOO.

Expected this in Google First + Bing appreciation
________________________________________

Who'll do it first, Oh! Please, I can't expect only this from a company like Google. I must add here that, bing is quiet impressive, especially the speed of bing is incredible, and I really like the picture.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date PJMichafner 3/8/10 2:33 AM
Ha, I guess there are quite a few of us that do most of our work at night but would prefer if our business-type emails didn't have a 3 am time stamp.  I'm in that situation right now (4:30 am) and I was really disappointed to find that Gmail doesn't have this feature.  I sent in my request like the rest of you.  Come on Google, please figure this one out.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date B-Rad84 3/16/10 12:29 AM
This is a feature that the guys at google could implement in less than a month if they REALLY wanted. It is so frustrating saving a draft and then setting a calendar reminder.
GOOGLE AND GMAIL GUYS - Please GET THIS FEATURE TO US!!!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Chocoboat 3/17/10 2:35 AM
This would be a huge help for me. Like PJMichafner, I'm occasionally working on things after midnight. Or sometimes I'll fall asleep around 9PM and wake up at 2AM, get a little work done, then take another short rest before the morning.

I can't send these emails with 3AM timestamps! It looks weird and it makes people wonder why I was up at that hour and get asked questions about it... I don't want to be interrogated I just wanted to get the email sent! So instead I have to wait, and remember to go back to Gmail later and make sure I send it then. And sometimes I forget to come back and send it on time, even though I did the work well ahead of time.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Threshold 3/22/10 2:21 AM
+1 This has definitely been an open thread long enough to have been seen, but not addressed any further.  Creating a lab that holds mail until a certain date/time and then sends it is not something that requires an incredible amount of development.  Most of the code is written within the "Unsend" feature...All that you need to do is set the schedule to whatever date/time the user desires the message to be queued.  This would even help increase the business features of the calendar, because you could allow template messages to be sent, just based on calendar dates (eg. invoices, bills, christmas cards, birthday cards, etc.) as Leigh C suggested.  What is the holdup?  Please at least give us the courtesy of not completely ignoring this thread for over a year, Google Support Staff.  If nothing is planned, keep telling us that, but don't ignore us.  As an addition to my 2 cents, we have setup more than 50 clients with Google Apps and we have heard this request at one point or another from various staff within more than 3/4 of those clients.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Jsals85 3/23/10 2:15 AM
This is a fairly basic feature that I expect out of my mail service.  Please add it.  An update would also be nice.  Thanks, Jon
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Gooooose 3/24/10 1:22 AM
HERE IS THE WORKAROUND!!!

5. Use Google Calendar for future email

You can use Google Calendar's online capabilities for the purpose of sending future emails. To get started: create an event with Google Calendar, select any future date/time, and then specify your recipient's email address. Google Calendar will automatically send your email at specified date in future to the email address you provided.  WHOOOO!!!

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date jimgwc 3/24/10 9:48 AM
Goooose,
Can you be more specific about where the text of the message, the recipient's email address, etc go in order to make this work.  I've futzed with it for a little while but I haven't gotten it to work.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date car57 4/18/10 8:12 AM
Goooose, Agree with jimgwc--while I did figure out how to create an event and add recipients, it is not clear that if I check "Send" that this invite won't go out immediately, rather than the date of the "event". Are you certain that if I schedule the event for 3 days from now, that when I send the invite, it won't go out until 3 days from now?
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JuanCalzettaIII 4/18/10 9:20 AM
The Calender workaround for delayed emailing (Goooose's suggestion) is too complicated.  Why should there not be a feature within the email window allowing us to specify a later date/time to send??      To go to the calendar, create an event, and attach an email requires three steps - a waste of time - why not one step?

JohnW2: My reading of this thread is that several people HAVE posted this to the Feature suggestion page and have gotten zippo response other than to be told it's not a feature. Kind of like beating one's head against the wall, it seems!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JohnW2 4/30/10 12:46 PM
Well, since the people on this forum are generally nothing more than ordinary users, it's kinda like impossible for us to do anything about it!
The only place you can have any sort of guarantee that Google staff will get to know about Feature Suggestions is on that page. There's no certainty that postings here will even get read/answered by a user, let alone by anyone from Google reading these postings!!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date iliketostayunknown 4/30/10 1:04 PM
If we all take the  30secs to do this maybe Google will actually do something:

Please post your request to the Feature Suggestion page.

At the bottom of the page is for other ideas called "I have another idea"
select Sending and receiving in popup
then Composing and delivery
then Sending options
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date C.Groo 5/7/10 8:06 AM

and let US reiterate, C.Groo: WE HAVE SUBMITTED REQUESTS!!!!!!!!!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date RevGertrude 5/9/10 2:08 AM

+1, +1000, +1,000,000? I mean, seriously, how many gmail users posting a request for an app that enables scheduled email delivery on the “suggest a feature” page does it take for Goggle staff to pretend to give a flying F on a rolling donut about what we want?

As for this forum, how can the “best answer” to this recurrent help request possibly be “Sorry, but gmail doesn't have this feature”? That this is the “only answer” provided by an actual Google employee (more than a year ago, no less!) suggests that Goggle’s financial commitment to corporate expansion far exceeds its self-purported commitment to developing innovative features that keep its users happy.

Google staff: Make a liar out of me & everyone else who has posted to this thread—I DARE you!

Same.  I send emails to Japan quite regularly from the US.  In Japan the vast majority of people receive personal email on their cell phones.  It's quite rude of me to ring their phones at 3am their time, so I need to be able to schedule these emails to go out at a reasonable hour for the recipient.

Gmail, pleeeeeeeeeease!

I've first requsted the feature more than a year ago, with the suggestion form and everything, I've voted for the delayed sending feature on the Google Labs page about that time as well, and just today I again suggested it woth the suggestion form!
C'mon, it is necessary!
Pretty-pretty please!!!!!!
Or at least tell us why isn't it possible or desirable. Probably there's a logical reason NOT to implement this feature - but we want to hear it then!

How many times does it have to be said: Google staff don't normally read any of these postings!!

If you want to make a suggestion for a feature in Gmail, there is a separate area for doing so.
That's the only place that suggestions can be assimilated into the system - adding +1 or "me too" to threads like this makes no difference to your wish to see this provided.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Shivenz 7/7/10 2:32 AM
I frequently have situations where I want to send e-mails at a later time.  No joke, I save the draft and set an alarm on my phone and then come back to hit send.

Judging from all the responses, with the exception of JohnW2 who is on a mission to kill this thread for some reason, I am not the only one with this issue.

PLEASE add this feature.

Scheduling an email to be sent in the future through google calendar would be the most efficient way of pre-scheduled send.

Can it not be done?
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date car57 8/17/10 6:26 AM
Give up on Google; apparently 2 years of asking for this feature is not getting us anywhere.

I just downloaded a Firefox add-on, Boomerang for Gmail. If you don't have Firefox, you will just have to live with what gmail wishes to offer you.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date fjarrett 8/18/10 12:56 PM
I also want this feature! Maybe someone can develop it for Gmail Labs?

There would need to be limitations, otherwise people would schedule messages like SPAM to go out every 1 second to 100 people (the Gmail max recipient amount). This feature would put Gmail into more of a "Email Marketing List" category (whether we like it or not) so there would need to be limits...and those would probably frustrate us even more.

FYI....you could also accomplish this idea by integrating your Gmail address with a free mailing list service like MailChimp. Just a thought in case someone is dying for this feature.

Hi,

There are some webapps out there that let you schedule outgoing e-mails straight from your inbox. I think my own Laytr.com is the easiest to use and most feature rich of them. It's still in Beta, but it seems to work pretty smoothly.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Zaphod Beeblebrox 10/5/10 8:15 PM
This works for me:

http://churchcrunch.com/use-boomerang-for-gmail-to-better-control-email-flow/

The beta key worked for me. The only downside is that I had to change my language settings to English, otherwise it would not work. This integrates into Gmail using a plugin for either Firefox or Chrome.

I would like to see this feature as native though among a lot of others.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date SoopahMan 10/18/10 10:59 AM
Boomerang does this:

It uses the Gmail API, not your username/password, and puts a "Send later" button on your emails. Their servers tell Gmail servers to send the Draft when the time comes.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JohnW2 10/18/10 11:37 AM
Boomerang for Gmail is currently in closed Beta.
You'll need to register for an invitation, before you can gain access to its functions.
But I must say it is working very well (for me!) during the trial.
Once widely available (and given that the version for Outlook isn't free, I doubt the version for Gmail will be either, unless they release it as an extension for Chrome) I shall be recommending it to all.

I can't believe that such a basic and useful feature has yet to be built. Seriously? Google are you listening to your business users or what? I run a company and almost every single one of our Google Apps users has asked why this feature doesn't exist. They are using other email clients because of this. We are developers and we work late, sometimes wanting to schedule and email to automatically have sent later. Think about it... I'm having to save emails and drafts and manually send them later. This just adds one really really annoying step and leaves me cursing Gmail to hell.

Hello Gmail.  I  use many Google apps, Gmail, Reader, Docs, etc., but would REALLY like to be able to delay delivery of an email message.  And the ability to set up a recurring email (like a recurring appointment, only email) would be fantastic.  I facilitate a group that needs regular reminders of meeting dates/times.  Not all use Google Calendar so I can't go that route.  But having the ability to set up a delayed send of an email would be most helpful/useful.  I see this thread has been going since April 2009. Google, is there any chance of this feature being added?  Thanks
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date vlendvay 11/17/10 3:55 PM
Please add this feature asap! :)
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JohnW2 11/17/10 3:59 PM
Currently, there's not a hope in hell of this being added this side of Xmas!
Continually adding +1 to the comments isn't going to make it come any quicker either.
The Boomerang extension for Chrome is likely to be the first integrated way this can be achieved. And unless you're using Chrome that's not going to help you; so until then, if you need the facility, use the Deferred Sending feature at http://www.deferredsender.com/ where the feature you require is already freely available.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JuanCalzettaIII 11/17/10 4:38 PM
Fine, there's an alternative with deferredsender.com, but I would not allow 2 companies (instead of just Google) to have access to my personal and professional communications.

Deferredsender works by having users send their email to it which it then resends at the time you choose. I'm inherently uncomfortable with that, and here's why:

From Deferredsender.com's TERMS: "You agree that MG Labs has the right, but is not obligated, to monitor your use of the Site and any communications made by you related to such use in any manner. You release MG Labs from any liability related to its monitoring activities."

Nuff said. At least with Gmail 1) it's the same company that handles your regular email, 2) you would expect standard privacy protections to apply, and 3) there would be an ample pool of people to form a class action in case of a breach of privacy (as occured with Google Buzz).
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date SoopahMan 11/23/10 11:50 AM
FYI although Boomerang is in beta, when I registered I instantly received an email to enable the feature, so it's not very "closed." It works very well - I've scheduled a few emails to go out at important times when I knew I would be away from my desk but I had to get someone's attention at the top of their day, and it worked perfectly.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Ngilmore 11/24/10 4:42 PM
Hey Google.  We are an apps for your domain user.  Meaning we pay money to use google for our corporate mail.  I'm in sales and this feature is a MUST have for getting business.

Deferred Sender is not a really good work around.

I'll try boomerang; but, why should we have to.

Common, build this feature and make your unpaid and paid users MUCH happier with gmail.

Hi all, I have tried a desktop software that names Auto Mail Sender Standard Edition, it supports using Gmail to schedule email. If you are interested in this, just google "auto mail sender" to find it :)
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Lyyyn 12/9/10 8:49 PM
I do find the feature of scheduled mail immensely useful.

For you that's struggle out there, you can use this free service. It support sending from whatever email address you have now.

If Google not providing, we're outsourcing :)

Cheers..

This would be so useful when I want to send a work-related email, but don't want the recipient to think I expect them to work over the weekend.  I'd like to queue up email from the weekend to send on Monday.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date td3 12/22/10 7:02 AM
Completely agree. I want to send an e-mail to friends at midnight on Christmas Eve/Day. I get the feeling Google might not do it before then. 20% time perhaps? Google Labs?

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date sumancse 12/30/10 11:33 PM
Yes I totally agree this is a very needed feature. I have been using Google on Android mobile, Outlook and Web. I can schedule my email in Outlook but the problem is I need to keep the Outlook mail client running all the time which is not good as it does not ask for any password. Since we are moving from Internet to Cloud I think this is a good feature, please consider it for your development.

I would also request to integrate Google Calendar with Gmail, so that I can send emails if I am delayed for any appointments that are scheduled in my Calendar. This is some thing I would say a nice to have feature.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date jstray79 12/31/10 5:57 AM
I would like to send out a company email at midnight on New Years without leaving my family to go and press send! Outlook has this I know GMAIL can do it!!!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JohnW2 12/31/10 9:48 AM
Well, unless you use your copy of Outlook to do it (or perhaps use Thunderbird!) then you'll be disappointed.
Chrome has the Boomerang extension which will enable that browser to achieve your aim: otherwise you'll need to employ the facility offered by ww.deferredsender.com, www.lettermelater.com or www.automailsender.com to achieve that aim!

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date wdurham 1/1/11 1:55 AM
Boomerang for GMail is now available for Firefox 3.6+ and Chrome 5+

Key features are a delayed send at the time/date of your choice AND the option to archive and then return a received message to the Inbox for follow-up at a later date, which is another feature some GMail users have said they would find useful.

I have tested it for a couple of days, and within those limitations, it works well with Chrome.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date novice mom 1/23/11 3:53 PM
I use Firefox as a internet browser and installed boomerang using my gmail account. http://www.boomeranggmail.com/download.html   When I scheduled a test email I just backspaced in the box and typed the date and time I wanted under the choose your own time tab. It worked even though I got a message that said it didn't do that yet. Then I did a standard 1 hour delay email and it seemed to work. This will be a BIG help as I'm going to use this to remind church nursery workers when they have their turn in the nursery. I'll just load a message (standard) and pre-set each one's date and time to go out to remind them. Now I don't have to remember to remind them!

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date mundhain185 1/26/11 11:56 AM
I've been looking for this functionality for years now and have patiently waited for such a service!!! Though I love Gmail to death, I have to use Outlook for work and love having the ability to send things later, but this is just ridiculous that no one can write a simple script or Lab feature to do this!!!

All of these 3rd party apps, websites, etc are great but one of the principal reasons I love Gmail is that all of it's functionality (as with all other Google Apps) stay securely in the cloud and follow me wherever I go from computer to computer (making a browser extension pointless). As far as the 3rd party items go, I'm not too trusting of services like that and would prefer something built-in to Gmail inherently.

+1 and here's hoping something comes out soon!!

I agree with everyone one here. A simple "schedule to send" button would do the trick. Sometimes i have legitimate emails to send that may seem odd at 3:33 am,but normal at 9:00 am. C;mon man this is f@$#^&g GOOGLE!

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date jortduijjnker 2/27/11 1:46 PM
Dear Gmail, stay on top of your game like we know you can and get this feature included. Being the all-time king of silicone valley you can easily get this done within a week. Listen to your customers or if not explain us why you choose not to implement this feature.

Looking forward to future-mailing with you soon
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date JohnW2 2/27/11 2:55 PM
Just accept that the feature has already been provided - in two different ways.
"Boomerang" has implemented it through the browser (for Chrome and Firefox at least) - and through separate programs (from deferredsender.com and lettermelater.com) for those using IE as their browser - and since all work and achieve the desired result, let's now get on with life!
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date thequinox 3/1/11 3:14 PM
Agreed. This is a needed feature. Workarounds are available, but still not the same as having it built in. It's been quite some time since Google has added any useful features to Gmail. Since they are now marketing it as a cloud alternative for businesses, they have to start adding more business features.

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Paul McDonald 3/14/11 3:32 PM
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Delayed and scheduled emails are definitely something we've considered. While we don't have this functionality today, its something we may add in the future and we'll be sure to take in this feedback when we prioritize new features.

As others have mentioned, Boomerang http://www.boomeranggmail.com/, offers this functionality and is good choice in the meantime.

How does Gmail not have this feature? Even the bare-bones godaddy email platform has a "schedule a time to send" feature.

Please implement ASAP, it would be very helpful.

Gooose, thanks for suggesting the workaround.

Try Momentomail. http://www.kymalabs.com. It lets you schedule email delivery over gmail.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date dulchinea 3/28/11 10:03 AM
As a workaround I created a calendar event and set up a reminder with the text I wanted - I can add the people to the invite or just wait for myself to get a reminder and forward that to the people I want.

The main reason I was using was to remind people about turning in certain paperwork on deadline, so it kinda helps remind me as well...

But it would be great to have this feature in gmail!!

Boomerang now has started charging for the Schedule feature.
Their apps pricing is ridiculous, it's 3 times the cost.

Google , you Engineers can work out a much better feature and integrate into Gmail.

We are waiting, with some many requests coming it, PLEASE do it now.

its lame gmail doesn't have this feature ....
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Leigh C 9/12/11 5:13 PM
Oh no!!  Please bump this feature on the list.  Our two best alternatives now have issues.

Not only is Boomerang limited to only the browser you're on (which is so anti-gmail/google's philosophy of being accessible anywhere), but they're now charging.  BOO.

The alternative I've been using, lettermelater, is still free, but now when users get the email, it says, "This message may not have been sent by:  em...@gmail.com" because lettermelater is sending it for me.  BOO.

Please gmail, this feature is obviously very liked and requested.  I hope you consider this a high priority

Hey everybody,

I've been working on a beta version of a google apps script that allows you to send gmail at a specific time (eg. you can specify the date / time you would like an email to be sent). It's still in development, but i would love to get any feedback that people can provide.

The instructions on how to use are here: http://gmail-delay-send.googlecode.com

Thanks,

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Leigh C 10/25/11 7:59 AM
Boomerang has two limitations:  It costs money.  And more importantly, it is only usable on the browser you've installed it on. So, when I travel or I'm not at home, I cannot boomerang.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Blair Kutzman 10/25/11 8:03 AM
Hey guys, I don't want to double post, and the project isn't completed yet (but you can use the beta version now), but I've been working on a free and browser / device independent way to send emails on a schedule.

There are some steps involved in getting it setup, but after that it works pretty well.

The project homepage is here: http://code.google.com/p/gmail-delay-send/

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date wildcattech 10/25/11 11:57 AM
I hesitatingly tried out Gmail a few years ago and have never regretted the transition, with ONE enduring exception: It was easy in Outlook to schedule an email to send later, but I have yet to find a way to do that in Gmail, which is - other than that omission - the ideal email client.

A few ways I use that:
* Send myself a reminder when there's something I need to act on but have to wait for a specific date or event to do so
* Send others a pre-configured follow-up email reminder instead of having to keep track of who needs reminders when
* Send emails during normal working hours when I'm up in the middle of the night or in another time zone
* Send birthday and other holiday notes & greetings when I'm thinking about it
* Schedule an email (or a reply to an important email) to send after a preliminary deadline or date has passed
* Not miss important deadlines because I composed a draft when I was thinking about it and remembered doing so, but didn't think of checking drafts the day it's actually due

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Blair Kutzman 1/4/12 2:03 PM
Hey everybody,

I too wish this was a native Gmail feature. Until that time though, you can try out Gmail Delay Send (http://gmail-delay-send.googlecode.com).  It's a free service written in Google Apps Script that runs on Google's own servers.  Because it doesn't require anything to be installed on your phone/browser it's available on any platform you can compose a gmail message from.

The way it works is you compose an email directly within gmail, the only change to your normal process is to specify on the subject line when you want the email sent (eg. instead of "I love gmail" you would write "I love gmail -- tomorrow, 1pm"). The email will be sent by from your gmail account at the time specified.

Hope this can help some of you.

Thanks,
-Blair
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date jeffreyprows 1/11/12 3:16 PM
There is already a lot of people who have requested this feature so I'm just another straw on the camel.

Being able to send mail at a future date would be very useful and this functionality is already available in products like Outlook and Thunderbird, but who wants an e-mail client running on their actual computer?
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date metalvins 1/16/12 12:44 AM

I don't think google cares about what we need. I don't get even why they dont have such basic stuff. Im considering changing soon my email, because google is cool but not so cool.
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Sbocaj 1/24/12 2:00 PM
If Google wants to keep ahead of competition, they should hurry to build in a 'send later' button in Gmail. What's the problem? Because there's a workaround, it's already technically possible. So the only other reason why it's not implemented yet must be a lack of money...
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date Sierra Zadora 2/5/12 1:49 AM

Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date omaralibutt 2/9/12 2:43 PM
it would be great if e-mails can be scheduled for a later date. This has to be a no-brainer because a lot of times I want to e-mail people reminding them of tasks although I use the calendar in Gmail to remind myself of certain tasks but you still need to be on the Internet and manually type a message and e-mail it yourself.although plug-ins like a boomerang are available but they will only work as long as you have a laptop or the PC turned : on but once you have shut down your system plug-in will stop to work. So basically just like calendar you should be able to send your e-mail no matter where you are in the world or whether you have access to your computer or not a schedule e-mail message will be like your own personal secretary.

Okay, Boomerang was fine while it was in beta, now it wants $60 for a yearly subscription if you want to send more than 10 emails a month and for what is a very basic part of emailing. Seriously gmail get the act together and implement this fairly simple add-on that people have been requesting for a few years.

Hello Paul,
Is Google any step closer to creating a function that would automatically send an email to someone at a future date?

I am facilitating a support group where participants are asked to think where they would like to be one year later and then they write a letter to themselves.  I would like their emails to send the letter they write to themselves to them exactly one year later.

All I can find our plugins or apps that are fee based.
Howie

Hi All - Thanks for all the feedback.  I too would like the feature in Gmail to schedule an email to be sent at a certain future date.  I shall go on Gmail Help and make the suggestion.  Gmail has really been awesome and I like the way they always update their email features and the new colors!

Hell Paul,
if you are a google staff, how dare you suggest to use boomerang? What about our privacy. We sell it to you regarding our email and you suggest us to sell our privacy to others also for each feature we need? That is not a good idea. As customer, we need you to help all people who cry out here :( I am not saying people should not use boomerang, but I am saying that is not professional response. If I sell my privacy here and there for each feature I want, then my privacy is jeopardized. So please, we need to solution from google as we entrust you and don't push us to others :(;

Excuse me, my preferences is that no email should be sent to me and I did not post my email address yet 2 of the posts were sent to me by email.  Please advise me how to stop this?  My profile does not link my questions/comments to my gmail account.  I cannot have these posts delivered to my business email address and I do not want to see these posts unless I come online to view it myself.  Please advise me how I can stop these posts being delivered to my gmail account even though I have not even displayed or added my gmail address to this post?

Click on My Membership and choose No Email.

The Help Forum knows your email address because you have to sign in to use the Forum, and your username is your email address....

You can delay your Emails , eg send email after a set time or date

one way is to setup your gmail on Outlook 2010

there is a Delay option

type up your email , and goto options , select Delay Delivery

Add me to the list of people who both need this feature and find it baffling that it isn't already included.  What a pain.  So many uses.

Are you still looking for a "schedule send email" option?

(look no further)

If you use Google Chrome it is also possible to install the extension for Boomerang, which can both schedule and monitor messages. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mdanidgdpmkimeiiojknlnekblgmpdll

I know this is an old post, but has this feature ever been implemented?

If so, How do I get to it?

No, it has not been implemented.

As others have pointed out, the company Baydin offers an extension called Boomerang, which will schedule outgoing mail for the future, and return older emails back to the top of your inbox (the "boomerang" effect) at a time of your choosing.  Very slick features.

Unfortunately, while Baydin's privacy policy states they don't store the email body, they do collect the "email headers."  For product analysis, they say.  That's a problem to me, because I use the email subject for reminders, and they typically reflect the overriding import of the email.  I will have to think whether I want this third party to have such unfettered access to messages I schedule for future send.

Google, love your stuff, but you're way behind on the curve on this feature....

Check this script code out:
http://code.google.com/p/gmail-delay-send/

Uses a code through Google Spreadsheets to execute a script through Gmail for delayed emails, and it works!! :)

First install and make sure the DELAY_SEND label is made, then just use the subject lines to execute when to send.

ex subj line:
hello world -- 12/10 7am

Many people have asked google to provide a tool for sending an email at a later date and they haven't done so!
Here is a free online tool that I found that will do this!

Here we are, on the cusp of 2013, and Gmail still doesn't have this feature?  Or does it? I would very much like to utilize it, if so.

It is still not built in, but there is an easy to use Google Apps Script that will do it for you:
Re: I want to schedule an email to send at a later date 1kenthomas 12/27/12 3:47 PM
This reminds me of the day when I heard that Tripod.com was considering web-based email-- in 1995.  I though immediately that it would be a disaster,  except for the poor fools who had to use it.

Sending emails on schedule is a feature of email that's been available since the 1970s.  Why can't Google do it?  Because they're interested in customer share,  not making a good product from the bottom up.

That's a lowest-common-denomenator concern,  and so what you have,  is a lowest-common denomenator product.
