Go into your contacts and update the incorrect addresses.

So why is it that Google hasn't solved this yet. I asked years ago. MS Outlook makes it easy to delete old email address that pop up automatically......with all the genius at google?
Also in reading all the explanations of Archiving nowhere does it say if the archive is still counted in your 7000GB. It seems logical that it is, but I'd hate to find out that I've been deleting unnecessarily....
Adjusting Contacts isn't a cure in my case as I don't use it.....
If anyone knows how pls let me know.....email@example.com

It is easy to delete. This is the same method I use on my mail programs (Lotus Notes and Mozilla Thunderbird).
As for quota, it says "Gmail offers more than 5 GB of free storage for your messages and attachments ... including those in Spam and Trash.". That is pretty clearly saying that everything counts.
And the page for What is 'All Mail'?, it says "All Mail is your archive, a storage place for all the mail you've ever sent or received, but have not deleted."

i figured it out! i was having the same problem when composing new messages. go to contacts and click on all contacts, check the ones to be deleted and then click on delete group. if you can't find the email address you want to delete (because you haven't used it in awhile) try typing it in the search bar, other contacts will show and then click on the addresses to be deleted and then delete group. the other contacts worked for me! good luck!

Didn't help me at all! I have deleted the old addresses from my Contacts, yet still they apear in the pick-list!!! Very frustrating as it makes that list worse than useless...

Did you delete them from All Contacts or just Recent Contacts?

I just did this and it works PERFECTLY, but you have to click on ALL CONTACTS to delete the old addresses, not just "my contacts" which is basically your address book.
So click on Contacts, then "All Contacts"
there you will see the list of everyone you ever wrote an email to.
Delete the bad ones from there, and then they do not appear on the drop down pick-list
Finally.. this is solved !
good luck everyone !

I still have multiple emails coming up under a name when I type it in. Even after that name only has one current email address listed in contacts.

1. Click on Contacts (below Mail) on the left hand side bar.
2. Locate the contact you wish to delete. If you have not stored it under a name, then you will find it by clicking on the "Other Contacts" link.
3. Select the desired contact by clicking onto its check box and choose "Delete Contact" from the More Actions menu - appearing on the top line of all the email addresses.
4. IMPORTANT! The above deletion shall not be effective UNTIL you sign out and sign in again!!!

" gmp" gave me a good start but it wasn't until I found "old contacts" like nsr.exd and was able to delete 100 addresses in 10 minutes. You can select many names on the list and drop down More Actions and click delete. Poof!

I can not delete old e-mail addresses! There isn't even a delete button that pops up when I try. I am about to clear all out and go to Yahoo! I am disgusted with Big Google are you?

If old email addresses that you no longer want to use are popping up in your autocomplete box, it can be for either - or both - of two reasons:
1. they are still in your contacts, and will have to be deleted if you no longer want to see them as suggestions. Go to Contacts, find the relevant contact and delete the old addresses or remove the contact altogether.
2. if your browser stores information that you type into text boxes, the old addresses may be stored in your browser's cache - in which case, clearing the cache will clean them out.

for #2, just to be accurate, clearing the cache will not help. You need to clear "form data" to make them stop appearing.
