|Droid conflict with GMail accounts - account will load on Droid and sync's but will not allow marketplace apps to load||Grand Mobile Co||11/7/09 9:36 AM|
Explain your issue in full detail here:
have spent hours trying to work with verizon reps on phone as well as at store.
have multiple gmail accounts. have loaded main gmail account on droid - email, contacts, and calendar sync fine. with main email listed first (I guess you could say Gmail default account) it will not let me download marketplace apps.
Wiped device clean - reloaded with secondary account before main gmail account. issue here is phone / gmail will not allow secondary email accounts (which was formerly my main Gmail acccount) sync calendar (only email and contacts, not calendar). In this scenario, marketplace apps are able to download, but I have no calendar.
Verizon Wireless is useless - (over 4.5 hours of wasted time) and had been on hold with Motorola for over an hour.
Asked them if there could be a conflict with main Gmail account which is also be "sync'd" with my blackberry (tied to another VZW phone number) through the Google sync app. Most VZW people cannot even grasp this concept or what I am speaking of.
There has to be some "conflict"?? - completely stumped on how to fix the issue. Can anyone please help? Thanks.

I've got a variation of the same problem - which may help...
Set up droid using gmail account number # - everything syncs fine. Set up another gamail account which I wanted to use as the default. Added gmail account to droid, then tried to add calendar and it wouldn't find it. Tried all the usual. Then decided to delete account #1 to see if that would help, but it wouldn't let me delete it (easily) by saying - 'some applications use this account' - so I'm assuming something in the setup uses that main account and is held in some super secret place, either on the droid or google.....

Another related Droid problem similar to lauren_ell's. Phone setup in store with "scratch" email account, that I was assured I could easily replace with a real one. Now I have added my real account. Then, in Firefox on PC, exported contacts & calendar from scratch account and imported to my real account. Have added real account to Droid. Now want to remove scratch account and have the real account as only account. So I have the situation that deleting it requires resetting phone to defaults because " 'some applications use this account' ". So applications I bought, I'm told, are tied to the scratch account and would have to be repurchased. I used app "mybackup pro" to backup phone, and wonder if it can help get around the app resintall and repurchase.
I think it must be made much clearer the importance of the connection between the gmail account and the phone's setup.
Any ideas on resolution to the replacement of gmail accounts on the Droid?

I have a gmail account and a Google Apps account. Gmail account I setup first with the Gmail app. I setup the Gapps account with Gmail app second (under accounts on the Moto Droid). I can sync contacts, calendar and email from the Gmail account (personal). My Google Apps account (work), only allows email and contacts, no calendar. I can't share my calendar outside the domain, so I can't get my corporate calendar at all. I tried setting up an email account with the Activesync (using the Android mail client), no go. Help?!

How did you get your Google Apps account to work??????
|KyleD||11/19/09 11:42 AM|
Jason, to sync your calendar, go to the Calendar, then Manage Calendars, then Add Calendar and select the checkmark. Not very good tool for multiple gmail accounts though. You can't create and sync anything between the secondary account, it automatically goes to the primary account. And more...you can't change the primary gmail account, how annoying!

i had a similar issue in that i setup my main gmail account first and added my google apps account second. i decided i wanted google apps account to be my default but couldn't find anywhere to do it.
so, i went into the browser to googles home page and noticed that i was logged in as my main gmail account. I selected Sign Out, then signed in under my google apps account and from that point forward, the phone used the google apps account as default. I had to re-setup all my syncing settings, and now my google calendar is tied to my google apps account calendar...
try that, web browser -> google.com -> see what account you are signed in as and switch to the other account you want to be the main one.
otherwise i couldnt find any where in phone settings to set a "default" google account after the phone was already setup.

We think we have solved this issue. If your secondary account is a Google Apps account you need access to administer your domain. Assuming you have that, here's what worked for us:
1) On Calendar Settings in Google Apps Administration, under Sharing Options, under "Outside this Domain", click the button for "Share all information, and outsiders can change calendars
2) Go to your Google Apps calendar, select your Calendar Settings for an individual calendar, and select Share your Google Apps calendar with the email address that is your primary email address on your Droid phone.
3) Still in Calendar Settings, make sure the primary Droid email address that you just shared the calendar with has the Permissions drop down menu set to "Make changes AND manage sharing"
This will allow the primary Droid user to edit and create events on both calendars. Color code each one differently and they will show up accordingly on the Droid so you can tell the calendars apart. On the Droid, in the Calendar app go to the menu and select "more" and then "My Calendars" and you should see all of your calendars listed.

Moto Droid. Same problem. Have two regular gmail accounts. One for work, one personal. IT person gets me new phone, sets it up with work account as primary account. I never use the work account, and now the calendar will only sync with the work account. When I follow the advice on the Google web site and use the regular web browser to go to Google calendar, it will not let me sign in as anything except the primary account. Even if I sign into google.com using the personal email, when I click on calendar, it defaults to the primary account. What a major pain in the rear end. I suppose I can understand that the phone can only sync one calendar, but why is it so hard to change the primary account?

I had an IMAP account set up on the Droid, with one eMail address. I wanted to change the eMail address. If there's a way to do that w/o deleting & recreating the entire account, I couldn't find it. Fortunately, recreating the account is reasonably easy. Only thing is, it also changes the little "color sliver" at the left of the account (and by implication, on all of the folders in the IMAP account). Now, it turns out that I like the new color (blue) better than the previous colors (red, and then orange), but that's something else that it would be nice to change. OK, how?
|KyleD||12/20/09 5:26 PM|
rburke, this is actually the first thing I tried back when I was setting up my phone. Unfortunately, it does not work if you want to make changes to the secondary calendar on your phone and have it show up on your secondary calendar on your gmail account. You can input stuff all day into the secondary account if it is your primary calendar account on your folder, but it never shows up in the gmail calendars. Again, the only fix for me was to uncheck the primary calendar on the phone so the secondary one (the one I want to use) became the primary. Wow...that sounds really confusing. This really needs to be fixed google people, because I use my personal gmail for everything else except calendar so I'd like that as the primary account on my android phone...and I use my business gmail for calendar only.

Google transfer gmail/google-checkout accounts - that is bullshit, they have done it for me twice well before the Droid was a drawing on a bar napkin. And that is all we are talking about here: transferring CC attachment from one gmail to another; it was a no-brainer then and should be a no-brainer now. I find this whole issue laughable that there is no Google solution for this crap.
|Dan LoFatty||12/30/09 4:05 AM|
Holy crap, are you kidding :? The only option on this forum under the "Edit" button is "Delete"? Pretty much explains why this next bit of info will shed some light on all the FUD I see in here.
OK, now I am not so pissed, as I found some info from an Android Dev:
If you want to change your primary gmail account for Gmail, its much easier.
Don not hard reset means set to factory defaults , by erasing all data and application , instead go to
1. Settings -> Applications ->Manage Applications ->
Here you have to "Clear Data" from
clearing data is much simple just click on aplication and clear data.
the Dev also warns that Google Storage will want to keep filling up so do that one last before exiting Manage Applications section.
Then, of course, you must regularly restart your phone, when it comes back, you will need to enter your new chose gmail, then follow the instructions. You also should do a *228, 2 for OTA, but may not be needed. What may be needed is having to do a *228 , 9 (as previously instrcted at any Verizon Store when you bought the phone in the first place).
This method of changing the an Android devices primary gmail account actually works. So let's all stop the goddamn FUD that we can't change the primary email AND LET CUSTOMERS KNOW and/or right a batch file with a shortcut in Manage Applications so that we can just stop all this bickering. Now this next part is probably why Google, Android Market, Verizon employees, Motorola CS employees are all saying "it can't be done", is probably due to the next relatively complex procedure:
The apps PURCHASED need only be re-registered, but in order to NOT Download and pay for them again, you will have to remove your CC from the old gmail/Google Checkout and use it in Google Checkout with the NEW gmail you have chosen for your new Droid primary - sure beats re-DLing and installing all those apps. Unfortunately the CC has to be the SAME CC you used on the old gmail account otherwise you ARE stuck with re-purchasing the apps from the Market using the NEW gmail you have chosen along with the different CC/Google Checkout.
Now, don't we all feel better about being this "open"? I know I do.

tried to "reset" original email as instructed above.....did not work, same settings came back. there must be an easy way to change emails!!!
|rodsayas||3/14/10 1:41 PM|
I totally found the instructions from CLCDAN totally helpful. Every thing worked just as described in the notes. It totally reset my google mail account to where I could enter my preferred google mail account and everything works with it. Thanks for the help.
|Doodler||5/3/10 5:49 PM|
Unfortunately, CLCDAN's instructions didn't work for me. I almost jumped out of my seat when I read them, thinking that finally I got a solution to this spectacular pain-in-the-rear-end of not being able to change the primary gmail account without wiping my Droid clean, but no such luck. I am truly befuddled at the engineering decision that led to this problem in the first place. Who in the world thought this was a good idea? Email accounts get changed all the time, for a variety of reasons... this doesn't make any sense...
Anyone else tried these instructions with success? is there, perhaps, a step missing that might help?

I bought a moto droid on eBay, I can't remove the dudes old gmail account or use market . I signed in with my gmail but when I go to market. It only asks for the other dudes pass and won't let me use my own gmail or create a new market acct. I can't remove the original gmail from this damn phone and what good is a droid with no apps?WTF
|breakdown505||5/8/10 12:29 AM|
I went to verizon today and the reset it to factory settings. It works cherry now. They said that it wasn't wiped right but they did it. Take it to the store ppl.
|msspurlock||5/20/10 8:48 AM|
Does anybody realize how screwed-up it is that you:
1. Can't contact anyone at Google Checkout if you have a problem? Believe me, I've tried a half dozen times. NO RESPONSE.
2. Can't easily change the accounts used on your Droid and have to do a factory reset to change Checkout and sync accounts?
Is there ANYBODY at Google even thinking about these problems, or LISTENING to the complaints?
Let alone DOING anything about it?
This is unacceptable.
If you want my money, if you want to sell me apps, then either offer payment systems outside of Google in Android Market, or fix the damn problems and let me set up and choose a different account for checkout without having to wipe my data!
On the one hand, Google invades our privacy, collecting data on us and on the other they force us to expose our data multiple times in the process of making their technology work. I used to defend them. No more.
|adadogensco||7/10/10 1:03 PM|
It has been very frustrating to try and get help in recoving lost applications in the Android Marketplace. This is compounded by the fact that no one seems to be managing the area. I'm not sure it is even legal to sell something without following U.S. laws.

"you will have to remove your CC from the old gmail/Google Checkout and use it in Google Checkout with the NEW gmail you have chosen for your new Droid primary"
What is CC and how do I change it?
And what is the step, "You also should do a *228, 2 for OTA..." What do OTA and *228 mean?
|bzlisa5||8/14/10 11:41 PM|
I am sooooooo frustrated. Just got the Droid2 two days ago. Set up primary email. Contacts/Calendar sync'd fine. Decided to use different email and it won't sync with my calendar. It won't even give me the OPTION of syncing the secondary email with the calendar. So I deleted the original email. I did a complete factory reset on my phone and started all over with the email I wanted. It STILL won't give the option of syncing with my calendar!!!! I was on the phone with Verizon for hours tonight with them trying to help me and they ended up suggesting I call Motorola tomorrow. This is ridiculous! People change emails all the time. It shouldn't be this difficult!

Droid X. Trying to 2 way sync my Google calendar (cell phone) with Outlook on my home computer. Seems to sort of be syncing but not completely. Would like to remove all info. from Outlook and start from scratch but am scared to lose info. Help?
Also, why can I not make my new gmail email address be the account holder for my Google Calendar (which I have had for awhile with a roadrunner email address)?!?!?!
|dsmith19645||11/21/10 10:22 PM|
I can't even LOAD the Calendar app. It instantly closes.
I would gladly factory reset the device: IF I HAD BEEN GIVEN AN OPTION TO BE ABLE TO BACK IT UP!
Repurchasing apps? Are you serious? I was just starting to get used to using this device- was just warming up to it. THIS IS A GIGANTIC FAIL.
I will not be using an Android phone for much longer. I'm debating between going back to BlackBerry or giving the iPhone a try. $^*& I wish one of those two companies had this technology because Google sure did the WRONG things with it.
|tulips1969||2/5/11 5:57 AM|
I am gonna try to use the procedure CCCdan wrote above. I deleted my primary google acct on my PC to change names. MISTAKE! The old primary will not go away altho non-existent! I can not sign into market cos the old email shows up on sign in , and there is no password cos it doesnt exist!
I am hoping this works so I dont have to Reset. I feel as if GOOGLe owns my phone!
BTW: The od email/the original primary/will not delete when you go to apps, altho I did get it deleted under email icon. But it is not really deleted...PSYCHE!
|midge784||2/19/11 1:52 PM|
I simply created a dummy account with google, created a test calendar entry on my account, added the new account on my droid pro, and once it started to sync, i looked at my original google account, and the calendar option appeared. I then deleted my dummy account. NO RESETS are necessary!!
