Loading issues in Google Chrome Kathleen C. 1/12/11 1:25 PM
Hi everyone,

If you've been having problems loading Gmail in Google Chrome, many users have reported that disabling the McAfee SiteAdvisor plug-in resolves the issue.

To access your list of plug-ins in Google Chrome, type in 'chrome://plugins' in the address bar.

Cheers,
Kathleen

Since my last McAfee update the day before yesterday, I haven't been able to access my Gmail inbox in Google Chrome.  (Internet Explorer will do it, but it's very slow.)  When I click on Gmail, my inbox appears for a fraction of a second, but then looks as if it's loading again (as if I had hit "refresh"), but instead of reloading, it just freezes.

I've disabled the McAfee SiteAdvisor plug-in as Kathleen advises, but the result is the same.  I've also worked all the way through the Gmail Help Troubleshooting protocol without success.

Any other ideas?

Fred

I've downloaded Mozilla Firefox and will use it as my browser unless/until Gmail or McAfee solves the problem.  I'd prefer Google Chrome, but not if I can only use Gmail in basic HTML!

Disabling the McAfee plug-in worked for me also.

Success at last!  Disabling the McAfee SiteAdvisor plug-in did not work for me, but uninstalling McAfee SiteAdvisor via the program list did the trick.  Gmail loads fine in Google Chrome, and my Internet speed, which had slowed to a crawl, seems back to normal.

I am having the same problem. I can't safely disable McAfee SiteAdvisor without putting my whole office's network at risk. I found that if I sign-in switch to html. Logout sign-in again. Then hit back a couple of times. I can get into my account in normal view. This is a pain and I hope that this bug is fixed soon.

Never mind my solution. I cannot get it to work for me twice.
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome Hayton 1/13/11 1:06 PM

The problem with Gmail in Chrome was noticed some days ago and the Known Issues list in Gmail was updated with the following recommendation :

"Some Chrome 8 users have reported that they are stuck on 'Loading'. To resolve the problem, please disable the McAfee Site Advisor plugin. To access your plugins, type 'chrome://plugins' in your Chrome address bar."

This was a holding measure while McAfee and Google worked together on a solution. I've been informed that a fix for the problem was released about 48 hours ago. To implement the fix, click on 'Check for Updates' in the 'About' box of the SiteAdvisor dropdown menu.

Could someone try this and let me know if it works? The information I have was relayed at second hand from the McAfee development team, and I don't yet have confirmation that it works as predicted.

OK, I tried it and it seems to work but it is not quite as straightforward as the post sounds. When I checked for updates, the message shown below saying I was already up to date.  However, clicking "Reinstall anyway" and rebooting seemed to fix the problem.

SiteAdvisor software version check

You are running version 3.3.0.173.

You are already using the latest version. There is no need to upgrade or re-install.

I'm sorry but does anyone else think that disabling their McAfee SiteAdvisor plugin is not a good enough solution to this problem?! I didn't pay for full protection of my PC only to be told by Google that I have to turn this protection off in order to use their products properly again! I wouldn't ever consider turning it off, particularly for my email which is how most virus's get through isn't it? Would love a solution to this problem that doesn't involve risking my machine or data. Help please Google?
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome rpeach 1/13/11 2:58 PM
Steve I completely agree with you!!
There's NO WAY that I'm going to disable Site Advisor to appease Google.
I'd rather use Firefox or Safari or even IE.
It's rediculous and bizarre that google can't handle this - their own product! = Crazy!!
If they don't sort out a better solution, they've lost a user.
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome Bob L.. 1/13/11 3:04 PM
So, why don't you just install the SiteAdvisor update?
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome rpeach 1/13/11 3:11 PM
Just tried the update, and so far it's working!!!!! Yay!!!   =)

My SiteAdvisor was apparently already up to date...

Seems to be working today though?! Very strange...

Disable McAfee Site Advisor so I can see Gmail in other than basic HTML?  I don't think so.  I'd rather see Google resolve the issue - it is their browser, after all.
I personally like Chrome because it is not a memory hog like Firefox and, up until now, it's been dependable. I now have to load Firefox.  IE?  Not an option.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for being patient about this issue. Previously Gmail and McAfee weren't cooperating, but McAfee has released an update that should resolve the problem.

Cheers,
Kathleen

Hi,

I have tried everything suggest above, but nothing works. I tried adding Gmail to my list of trusted websites as well as updating McAfee, but it didn't work. I would not want to turn off the Site Advisor as it offers protection against other unscruplous websites. Please suggest some proper solution.

Thanks.

I'm same as above!! tried all available suggestions, to no avail. Have to load gmail in basic HTML or use internet explorer. Both not ideal solutions.
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome annfl 1/21/11 9:47 AM
I am in the same boat! I don't have McAfee (I checked plugins as suggested) and it opens the page so I can see my mail but doesn't let me do anything--instead a message offering to "kill or wait" the page comes up. This came on suddenly yesterday evening and has not gone away! Please help!
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome billieabbott 1/21/11 2:12 PM
I still have to  go on line through Internation internet they go through Windows to get Google .Sometimes chrome sneaks in and ,I get ( no email not loaded.). If I make it to just Google they come on with all areas of entry including Gmail and I am online. WEE
Re: Loading issues in Google Chrome p-ants 1/21/11 6:56 PM
