I got this error message because I entered the date of birth of this account is the year of 2008. This is our student organization's email address and I thought I could just put the date of establishment of the club. How can I resolve this issue? Please help!!!!! Thanks.

I would also like to know the answer to this

A business or organization can't "own" and use an e-mail account (no figures with which to type an e-mail).  It has to be used by a real live person.  That person can submit the proof that they are old enough to use the account.

We just a small student club that wanted to have our own email account to contact people. Is there any other way to recover the account because we have a lot of contacts in that account?

Read the post above yours.

@bkc56 On that unhelpful "help" page you cite I see this: "If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will have to supply the confirmation on your behalf."

How do I go about doing this? (Me being the parent in question)

I would assume by following the instruction given on that "unhelpful" page for confirming an account.  They provide two methods.
Re: Age requirement for gmail account gummih 8/31/11 3:04 PM
No, they do not provide that information. They provide two methods in the section named "What can I do to re-enable my Google Account?"
both methods require me to provide MY birth date.

I want to know how a parent can vouch for their kid's account, without supplying a bogus birth date - according to the COPPA guidelines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children's_Online_Privacy_Protection_Act#Complying

this is no bigger a problem than the methods currently in place

Re: Age requirement for gmail account bkc56 8/31/11 3:36 PM
I'm sorry, I don't have any answer beyond what COPPA says and Google supports.  It's your choice how strict/loose you wish to interpret that.
Re: Age requirement for gmail account gummih 8/31/11 4:58 PM
What Coppa says has nothing to do with this.

Coppa says: "When operators want to disclose a child's personal information to third parties or make it publicly available (for example, through a chat room or message board), the sliding scale requires them to use a more reliable method of consent, including:
  • getting a signed form from the parent via postal mail or facsimile;

  • accepting and verifying a credit card number in connection with a transaction;"

All that needs to be done is to allow kids to use their correct birth date and accept their parents credit card as a method of vouching.

So instead of stopping the process here: http://i.imgur.com/9lFNq.png
How about not stopping it and allow me to continue
