I'm having the same problem and haven't gotten anywhere with it. Any luck?

Experiencing the same issue today.
Clearing browser history/cookies, etc. seems to have had no affect.
Gmail works fine in icedove/thunderbird and mutt over imap, and in firefox/iceweasel browser,
just having this problem in google-chrome.

I'm having the same problem. From a freshly started Chrome, it takes 2 refreshes to get to the GMail main screen.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10
Browser: Chrome 5.0.335.0 dev
This has been happening for about 2 weeks. GMail opens fine in Firefox.

I got my new GMail email address today. And it won't load on Chrome!! It works fine on IE8 though. Seriously pissed with Chrome, and GMail.

The question has to be "where the hell is Google?" Lots of people are obviously having problem with GMail in Chrome but there is nothing from Google to admit that they have a problem or to offer any help. Doesn't this make you want to go back to IE? There products are crap and it seems they don't care about that. Where do I sign up for Firefox?

I found a WORKAROUND for this problem. Hopefully it will be helpful to others.
I was fortunate enough that I could get GMail to load with a couple of refreshes. So it was annoying but no show-stopper.
I've recently tried going directly to the final URL, i.e. the one which successfully loads GMail:
and what do you know, it works! Using this link, I manage to hit my inbox on the first try. It would be interesting to know what "shva=1" does!
I have also tried fiddling with Chrome's security settings under "Options" | "Under the Hood". I have DISabled "Check for server certificate revocation" and ENabled the other three: "Use SSL 2.0", "Use SSL 3.0", and "Use TLS 1.0."
Problem solved for me, but I'm less than impressed with Google's non-response to this issue.
