Getting error: The ordinal 345 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll chipbowl300 6/9/09 1:02 PM
I have been getting this error and I don't know why. I haven't used the computer for 3 days then I turn it on and get the error. I tried running registry mechanic and it still shows up. This is happening in Windows 7 RC and I also have windows 7 on my desktop but I am not getting the error. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just go to the run cmd with an admin previlage and type "sfc /scannow". windows will repaire the corrupted files. thats it... else go for a system restore.

Thanks for your response.

I reinstalled gmail notifier and ran the command you suggested above, as an administrator, with the following results reported: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I still get the error every time the gmail notifier starts up for any user on my machine.  Any other suggestions?

I'm getting it too (I have W7 too and it opens because of GMail Notifier; it even says it in the window title). I guess it is caused because of the lack of a certain line or sth on the specified file (COMCTL32.dll)... I don't know... We probably have to wait a few more days until all companies start updating their software to be compatible with W7.
Now, I realize that you have posted this more than 2 months ago, have you found a solution?

I have not found any solution that works as yet.  I get three pop-up windows complaining about the comctrl problem every time I sign into my account, click the OK button, and it works until I log out...

Jejeje, I get 4 pop-ups...

I am also getting this error. I have Windows 7 64-bit. It comes up at least 3 if not 4 times when gnotify is started.

I'm getting this error on one machine (Dell Studio 1735 laptop) and NOT on another (Homebuilt Desktop).  Both are running Win 7, recently installed from the SAME media, using the SAME (Family Pack) key.

Problem started on the laptop after some Windows updates were loaded (maybe has to do with IE8?)

One possible workaround is to try Gmail Notifier Plus - it was written SPECIFICALLY for Win 7.   Runs as an application, not in the system tray - but uses lots of Win 7 specific features.

Of course, the $64K Question is - WHERE's GOOGLE???  Are they going to FIX this or not?
Re: Getting error: The ordinal 345 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll Marto 11/28/09 3:42 PM
YES, the (not so new really) Gmail Notifier Plus for Windows 7 seems to work perfectly and is much more integrated to the new OS.
It's already in version 2.1 and it looks great for now.

I'd say the topic is closed, thanks bdormer.

i'd say the topic is not closed at all. this isnt a solution its just an alternative choice of program. i'd prefer a program that resides in the notification area, not in my taskbar.

Has anyone found an answer yet? I have one Win 7 computer doing it - the other 2 are ok (one Win 7, one Vista). It is really frustrating and notifier plus is no good to me as it requires a login every time you open your email. I have used Gmail Notifier ever since it was released and it is so handy.

I'm also patiently waiting for a solution to this nuisance issue. Like plbuckland, I have this problem only on my brand new HP laptop, but my older desktop is fine. Both computers are running Win 7 Professional. Is Google still unaware of this issue, or just ignoring it?

I second that motion!!! Please, Google, help us out!!! I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and I have the same error message pop up 5 times every time that Gmail Notifier v1.0.25.0 starts.  I have run the "sfc /scannow" and it finds no problems with my system files.  I have another machine that is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, and Gmail Notifier v1.0.25.0 runs flawlessly on it. No pop-ups or error messages. I've tried the Gmail Notifier Plus v2, and it's ok, but the fact that it has to run as a large, bulky icon on the taskbar and not just as a small, inconspicuous icon in the system tray (notification area) bugs me too much. I love the simplicity of the original Gmail Notifier from Google, and I as well have been using it for years.  I also tried installing Google Talk and using that for my email notifications, but it is not as simple and easy to use as the original Gmail Notifier, and to get email notifications you have to be signed in on Google Talk.  So, if you're at work, or at home trying to study (or just get away), you're always online for someone to contact you. You can't just get email notifications!

So, Google, please listen to all of these people that would just like to have a version of the original Gmail Notifier that works for Windows 7!!!

Thanks for all that you continue to do! Keep up the good work!

Sam

I have the same issue.  Can you please fix it!!!!

Nothing, yet????????

This should take less than a day to fix, seems with all the engineers that google has, this could easily be fixed.

They are becoming the slow sleeping giant like Microsoft.

At Options MENU, try to select TLS 1.0, SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 (at the same time) at Google Chrome (or other browser)
This worked for me!
:)
