|Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||duddy99||12/16/09 1:51 AM|
Explain your issue in full detail here: For apprx. two weeks I have been receiving the following error message when attempting to perform several function in Gmail: "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem." It then lists several possible solutions suck as switching to the older version and trying html only version, all of which have been tried and fail to resolve the issue. The problem seems to have started randomly, one day it worked, the next day it didn't. I receive the error message when trying to open a view a message, when trying to archive message, and labeling messages. My network has not changed, I run the same modem, router, pc I used when it worked, and no settings have been changed. I have tried it with and without my firewall, and have even bypassed the router, all with the same outcome.
Please Also Include:
Operating system (e.g. WinXP): Windows Vista
Program and version you use to access Gmail (e.g. Internet Explorer 7 or Outlook 2003): Google Chrome 22.214.171.124
Your antivirus software (e.g. Norton 2007): Norton
Any extensions, toolbars or plug-ins: None
Please excuse my horrible spelling, i'm frustrated.
Thank you for your reply Tito Dutta. As my problem isn't actually related to network connectivity but rather that is just what the error message states, none of these solutions helped. Nevertheless, I appreciate your input. I am able to load any and all sites on the internet, including Gmail. Let me get more specific...If I log into Gmail and see an unread message and then click on that message to open it, the page does not load for apprx. one minute, and then the error message is displayed. It doesn't prevent me from using Gmail completely, it's just a major annoyance, as I'm sure you can understand. At this point I would like to state that I have checked with several major internet speed tests and my performance is on par with the average for my broadband isp. And being an avid online gamer, i would notice any speed issues with my connection.
Thank you all for your replies. I have never used any of the gadgets in Google Labs, I did check those settings anyway just to be sure, and verified that yes everything is already disabled. I have noticed that once I open an email and wait for the error message to popup and the email is then in cache I can open it repeatedly without the error message. I hope that helps, it's getting really annoying.
Final Update: Thank you all for your suggestions. I have tried them all as they've rolled into my inbox but so far nothing has resolved the problem. At this point the problem is intermittent, some days it's works as intended, other days i'll get the error message all day. I've decided it's just something I'll have to deal with if I continue to use Gmail. Thanks again all.
It seems many of you that had a similar problem were able to find resolutions here. Unfortunately, none of your suggested fixes were able to solve the problem for me. Almost a year later and it would seem the problem has just sorted itself out. Maybe there was a gmail and Chrome update that fixed it, I don't know. It has been working fine for several months now.

Tito Dutta, thank you for your tips and instructions. Since duddy99 says that the Internet connection that is being used seems to be doing well other than the error, it may be that another is causing this error to appear.
duddy99, can you try signing in to Gmail with labs disabled at

I've been having the same problem (in Chrome), and turning off the Labs Calendar gadget seems to have fixed it...

I've also been having the same problem in Chrome. I just tried turning off the Labs Calendar gadget and that didn't seem to work, so I turned it back on. Then I turned off the Add Gadget by URL feature (note: I wasn't using any gadgets by URL, anyway) and that seemed to do the trick.

I have been getting this too. For me, clearing my cookies seems to have made the error go away. It will return again after a few weeks, just clear your cookies again and you should be good.

I ran into this same problem recently (internet connectivity message after like a 1 minute pause) in Chrome for Mac 188.8.131.52 soon after I upgraded to Snow Leopard and latest Flash. Following Iris's post, I disabled labs and no longer had the problems.
I narrowed my issues down to the "Pictures in Chat" lab; no errors when disabled, error message + pause when re-enabled. Try disabling that lab if it's enabled for you.

I have the same issue: "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem" when I click on any email to open it.
I use Chrome 184.108.40.206 on both Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP with Bookmark sync enabled.
I have no Chrome extensions installed, and have tried with all gmail labs disabled e.g. http://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0.
One might expect that Google Chrome opening an email in Google Mail would be a pretty low-hanging regression test.

@ mbarrien - I just Enabled the "pictures in chat" lab and my error disappeared. No idea why, but I'm not complaining.

|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||pofshrimp||1/4/10 6:17 PM|
I have Windows 7, using Chrome 4.0.266.
I have no extensions, all labs turned off. The error box definitely appears to be a problem with the chat feature. After around 20 seconds from logging in, the error box will pop up (Doesn't matter if I click a message or not, its like something is timing out). During this 20 seconds, the chat tool is blank, no names or search bar under it, just the title bar with minimize button. Immediately after the error box pops up, the chat tool fills in with the search bar and names.
Enabling the Pictures in Chat lab fixed the problem for me. Disabling it brought the problem back.

Le problème chez moi venait du lab "Insert Image". Il suffisait de le désactiver.

My problems with Gmail started several days, slow in loading, files will not attach. All non-Google sites work okay. Receive this message:
"Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem. If this problem persists, try reloading the page, using https, using the older version, or using basic HTML mode. Learn More."

Thanks for the labs=0 link. I had the Google Docs Gadget and Signature Tweaks enabled in Labs. Disabling Signature Tweaks caused the error to go away.

Sometimes, not always, I can't get Chrome (4.0) to load anything. Sometimes it will take up to two or three minutes and other times its fine. I also use Greenbrowser and that has no problems although generally it is slower than Chrome. However, once Chrome has loaded then it will load anything, fast. I also have the opposite problem. Sometimes I have Chrome on and working well and I start Greenbrowser (slower, older but many more useful features) and Greenbrowser won't load until I close Chrome. Then I have to close Greenbrowser and reload it and its fine. I run Vista, AVG and have several extensions on Chrome.

I just started having this issue in the last couple days. It would pop up as I tried to view any message or switch to different label sections. After playing around for a bit, I disabled the https and reloaded the page and it does not appear anymore.

Use http://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0 and DISABLE "Add any gadget by URL"
this FIXES the problem!!

Using that link to get into gmail DID in fact SOLVE the problem.
Funny how nobody from google can figure this out and even funnier that the whole problem is incompatibility with gmail and chrome. Hmmm, now what do those 2 have in common??
|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||MgCutter||1/31/10 7:58 PM|
I was having this issue in Chrome but not in Firefox or IE. I don't use Labs but I tried toggling one on and then off again since a lot of people said that fixed the issue. In my case it did not.
I don't use offline mode but I tried toggling it on and then off again. That seems to have gotten everything back to normal.
Google: please get this thing working right. I love your browser and your webmail, but it's a bit embarrassing when they can't play nice and IE does.
|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||MgCutter||1/31/10 8:07 PM|
Correction: The lab I enabled did not actually disable (?!) when I saved that last change. Once I disabled all labs the same problem returned. I decided to enable Old Snakey since it seemed like the least potentially intrusive lab. NOW everything is working properly.
|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||dhardinford||2/5/10 8:12 AM|
I tried this today I have google as my home default when I would sign in to look at my g-mail it would take at least a minute or so to download then when I would click on my mail to read it, it would sit there forever then it might let me read it or it might seen me a error message saying to go to the older version and I did and it worked but I did not like the old style because it only showed my mail and not all my gagets, like news weather etc. So this morning I downloaded google chrome and place it as my default browser as my start up page then I selected the diffrent things I wanted to use like news weather u-tube etc. And it worked like a charm!!!! It has lighting speed on your mail and eveything else. This all started with me Mon 1, 2010 But now i think it has solved my problem and I hope it will yours! Believe me if it works for you, you will love it.

Operating system: WindowsXP-SP2
Program and version you use to access Gmail (FireFox-Version 3.6.3)
Your antivirus software ZoneAlarm-Version 7.0.483.000
I had been plagued with the the same error message as the rest of you. I've discovered that the error was directly related to the chat portion of my Gmail. After reading here that I should turn on the pictures in chat, I did exactly that. However; I was unable to access it directly in Gmail. I instead accessed it on the Google homepage and then changed it to show pictures in chat. Once done, I went back to the 'Full Gmail" and refreshed the page in the "Newer Version" again.. No more error message. Still not sure that it was repaired, I closed and re-opened my browser. Sure enough, the error is gone.
Thank you mbarrien,
Your solution has finally eliminated an error that was tormenting me. I can now use all the features of the Newer Version of Gmail.

Even the settings section will no longer load! I can open old mail but none of the new. Mine started with the connectivity error message about a week ago. I don't use labels or pictures, etc., simply the incoming and outgoing mail!
|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||SolWilliams||6/14/10 5:55 PM|
I turned off all of the labs stuff and still had a problem. I also could not make any changes as the Google site said that I had "Entered Invalid Settings", and proceeded to ignore all attempts at changing things.
I resolved my issues by first setting my GMail account to just HTML.
Next I turned off the setting "Always Use HTTPS" and saved my settings.
Then I reloaded/refreshed my Google home-page and my GMail page.
My Google pages stopped telling me that "Some GMail Features Failed To Load Due To An Internet Connevtivity Problem". My problems were then solved.
|Re: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem.||Bob39||8/20/10 2:56 PM|
I have repeatedly experienced all the problems related above. Many times it takes forever to load, unless I select html only. That, of course, is not a desirable solution, since most want to be able to highlight, bold, etc., attach photos and such.
Even when it finally loads in the normal mode, I often cannot create a new Email, because it constantly comes back with the "some parts failed to load" banner. Same, when I try to open Email. Cannot even read what has come in, unless I refresh to html only.
I went to "help" and it suggested I needed to download a better browser (I am using the very latest version of FF now). But, I still tried to download Google's browser. Couldn't do that either. While the download page came up, nothing happened, no matter what button I clicked. It would just sit there and do nothing.
Sorry to say, I am getting absolutely fed up with Google. The longer I stay with them, the worser it gets, and none of their suggested solutions changes anything, if I want any level higher than just basic html.
I have XP professional, the latest FF, and a quad-4 Intel processor. I have the no-script plug-in, but have set it to allow all of Google. I still have the same problems, using the latest version of Sea Monkey, which has no plug-ins.
Dial-up access only, but it seems that some of those with high speed access, have the same kinds of problems I am having.
It has to be the Google software that is causing the continual degradation of what used to be a good email system.

From today morning my mail box doesn't appeares as it was upto yesterday. Some features are not available in may mail box like clicking problem, reply format is somewhat change and ridiculous. I didn't able to mark star on my important mails etc. A message is shown on top of my mail box that is, " You are currently viewing Gmail in basic HTML. Switch to standard view | Set basic HTML as default view . I do not understand what to do. Because when I click on Switch to standard view to get my old mail box format it didn't work. It remain same. No changes occurs. Pls help me to get my old mail box format as I am very much familier to that view.
