Decimal and DMS coordinates give different locations bigbazinga 1/21/13 12:28 PM

The image I made from Google Earth shown here:

has markers at two points, IDENTICAL coordinates in DMS and decimal, but VERY different in actual marked location.

Why?

Hi, do you have a saved kmz file for that?  What do you see in the search panel?  For me those two sets of coordinates show in the same location.

Try 39 47 34.8 N 108 22 4.8 W without the symbols, it's possible that Google Earth is misinterpreting them.  There are different ways of writing them, for example from the screenshot your " looks quite stylised.  If Google Earth doesn't recognise the symbols it won't know that you are using coordinates and will try and interpret the entry as best it can.  The best is not to use symbols at all, they are not needed.
