When trying to take any kind of guided tour(Mars) on GEarth, I get no sound. I'm running win7 and tried it on another pc as well, no sound there either. All my other apps sound work fine. What could the problem be? Im also running the latest version of GEarth via the help->update.

I have had this same problem. The Mars guided tours say they are narrated but I hear no sound at all. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I will try once more and report back.

Really boring just looking at the videos on Mars without sound.. sigh
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||stillhouse||9/6/10 5:21 PM|
Same here. I would really like to hear the Mars tour since I'm reading Robinson's Mars trilogy. I don't think the problem is with the OS. I first encountered the problem when I was running Vista. I just did a clean install of Windows 7. The change in OS helped with many problems, but not this one.
I think our problem reports need to contain more info than simply the OS.
I've got a Dell Inspiron 530S with the sound hardware that came with it, RealTek High Definition Audio. I'm using the driver Microsoft automatically installed. According to the Device Manager, the Driver Provider is Realtek Semiconductor Corp.; Driver date is 1/24/2008; Driver Version is 220.127.116.1155.

Same problem here. Running Win7 32bit, although this problem doesn't seem to be OS-related.

Same problem here. Is Google listening ?

Me too, 18.104.22.1688 on W7 64 bit. Already reinstalled but still doesn't work. Overall this version seems a bit patchy, it stalls a lot (for instance click a building, it freezes up for 20 secs)
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||gjvdkamp||11/27/10 7:33 AM|
Tip: when you click a guided tour a popup opens. There's an option to start the tour with preloaded audio. That fixed it for me :-)

"Tip: when you click a guided tour a popup opens. There's an option to start the tour with preloaded audio. That fixed it for me :-)"..is the solution for the no audio on guided tours problem.
I found your post and it is the answer for all of these people... seems a little obvious, but one just normally would click the "take guided tour" or whatever it says on the button/link that is top and center most on that pop-up that opens... but the obvious choice for the "pre-load with audio" button/link, gets lost a little... sometimes the genius is in the simplicity.

Hey gjvdkamp,That sounds promising, however the problem for me (and I suspect others) seems to be that no popup appears when a guided tour is selected or played. Was there a way to enable/disable popup in Google Earth? I have spend quite a few hours trying to nut this one out by reading through the various support forums. We have the problem on all 4 of our PCs (XP and Win7) despite Google Earth being fully up to date.

I'm not sure if this would make any difference, but my first installation of Google Earth failed, so I went on to a forum, vark.com, and someone gave me a direct link to the full GE installer download, bypassing the online installer that wouldn't work for me... this downloads a 13.6 MB installer instead of doing an online installation.
Download the full Google Earth installer from this URL...
That is the installer that gave me the successful GE installation that now gives me that pop-up that you are not getting with guided tours, so you can choose to pre-load the tour with audio.
PS: this direct link for the full GE installer goes directly to the download, so there is no page with a download link... just copy and paste the URL above in to your browser and click go and you will get the immediate "save this file?" prompt to begin the 13.6 MB, 2 minute download.
Hope this helps in some way.

still no luck, even choosing the play with audio selection.....12/01/10
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||jcoldrey||12/26/10 7:25 PM|
Thanks for your detailed suggestion, but no cigar unfortunately.
Cannot get the pop-up to appear ... after attempting on several PCs under both Windows-7 and XP).
Pity, as the imagery in the tours looks quite good.

This could have just been luck, but I closed the little "player" window (with play/pause controls) by clicking the "x" and then replayed the Guided Tour and the audio came back.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||dmaar||2/16/11 7:48 PM|
Guys, any solution to this yet? I reinstalled the program twice and still nothing. There are NO popups, I wish this would get fixed....

Same here, win7, GE6
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||dml123||2/22/11 5:17 PM|
Not meaning to just be repetitive, but since it appears all posters so far reported Windows trouble, I will ad that I have the same problem with GE 22.214.171.1242 and Apple Mac OS 10.6.6. No sound in all tours.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||timpipes||3/8/11 10:47 AM|
Same issue here on all macs running 10.6.6. No sound in tours. Our science teacher said she had it running yesterday but upon trying again today, no sound for mars tours. I tried on my machine, also a 10.6 rig and GE 6 (beta) and no sound.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||tesgen||4/15/11 9:00 AM|
Same problem with a new Macbook Pro and an IMac, both running OS-X10.6.7.
Seems odd to me that Google doesn't tell us how to fix what is a significant glitch.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||tesgen||4/15/11 9:11 AM|
Now Celestia crashes reliably when Mars Tours is clicked. Still no audio.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||tuomasnylund||4/17/11 3:40 AM|
Same problem. No sound with guided tours. Using Arch Linux and latest Google Earth...
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||Jmckeen||8/9/11 5:22 AM|
problem still not fixed, I have Ubuntu 11.04, No sound and no popup asking for audio. Have google earth 6.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||jgates513||8/17/11 6:02 AM|
Some interesting background info, perhaps, is that I unzipped the KMZ file to find a Files folder that contained an mp3 file which played just fine by itself. Looking at the code in the kml file I noticed that it did correctly point to the folder and the file. I tried moving the folder and changing the code to point to it there, but no good. I also tried renaming the audio file and the code with no luck.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||kite_surfer (Rudy de Groot)||9/1/11 7:19 AM|
As posted by GJvdKamp the workaround works and as of the current version of GE (126.96.36.1997) it seems to work for the normal guided tours in Moon and Mars as well. Looks like the old kml have been revamped. I'm on Windows.
Only problem is while downloading the narrated (pre-loaded) tour, GE asks to switch to Earth even when you're in Moon view. Solution for now is to just Esc out of that dialogue.
|Re: No sound in Guided Tour||Jms371||10/20/12 8:56 AM|
After uninstalling GE a 2nd time I tried the full Google Earth installer you suggested. Still no audio. This even with against my better judgment running Google Chrome as my default browser in Win Vista SP2 with full administrative rights. In Google Sky the SkyScout audio is non-functional and clicking the "having trouble hearing the audio" link results in error, "Connection timed out", and the Open in Google Chrome toolbar button doesn't work. Any help anybody could give me getting the audio to work would be appreciated.
