Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b briangmu99 4/24/12 10:46 AM
Hi, I've been trying to run the Google Drive and I get the error "An unknown issue occured and Google Drive needs to quit.  Error:  487b".  I've disconnected my account repeatedly but it doesn't help.  Each time I go to sync during what seems to be the last step of the setup wizard, it just spits out that same error.

I'm on Mac OSX Lion.  Screenshot of error is attached.  Thanks!
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b briangmu99 4/24/12 10:47 AM
oh, I also get the error attached sometimes instead (but at the same point), which is slightly different.  It says "Error:  Invalid root_inodes set ([])

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b Nizer 4/24/12 10:50 AM
I am getting both those errors as well on Mac OSX Lion.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b gmac99 4/24/12 12:28 PM
Add me to the list. Also Mac OS X Lion with same errors described above. Weird thing is I have a colleague with the same MacBook Pro and version (Lion) and it works for him!

Hey all,

For those that submitted a Report ID,  can you tell me:
1. do the folders still exist;
2. if they do, is there a symlink somewhere in the path or
3. if the /Users directory is storage on some sort of removal media?

Thanks,
Julio

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b gmac99 4/24/12 2:06 PM
1. Folders all still exist
2. Symlink? What is that?
3. /Users is on the local HDD as per default for new OS's. No removable storage attached to the MacBook.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b gmac99 4/24/12 2:07 PM
Also, I just installed this on my iMac at home (also running OS X lion) and that worked with no issues. Only the MacBook Pro is giving issues
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b briangmu99 4/24/12 2:07 PM
Hi, here are my answer:

1. do the folders still exist; I do not see a 'Google Drive' folder in my users/username folder where I had specified (by default) during the wizard setup

2. if they do, is there a symlink somewhere in the path or

3. if the /Users directory is storage on some sort of removal media?   It is not.  It is just /Users where Lion has it by default (I think at the top level of the file structure)
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b briangmu99 4/24/12 2:09 PM
I guess I should also point out that I'm on a Macbook Air.  Not sure that it matters, but fwiw
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b cowdogmoof 4/24/12 2:14 PM
Same here, but this is happening with managed network users. It works fine for the main identity (local admin) but then when signing in as a network user, I get that same error message. Disconnecting will still not allow the app to launch. Also, permissions are not set correctly... any other user can browse to the home directory of the admin and see all
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b RishiS 4/24/12 2:22 PM
@briangmu99, try creating an empty Google Drive folder and going through the setup wizard again.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b gmac99 4/24/12 2:59 PM
That worked! Thanks Rishi!
I created a new folder under my local user called "Google Drive". Then launched Google Drive again, ran through the setup and it started syncing!
Thanks again

@RishiS that solution worked for me, too!  Thanks.

creating a google drive folder and then directing the app there during setup fixed it.        Thanks Rishi  !!
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b RyanBonnier 4/25/12 7:25 AM
This worked for me also. I noticed that when I created the Google Drive folder in my home directory I had to type in the admin username/password for my machine..... so im assuming the Google Drive software is not able to create this and not prompting the user for permission. Im running 10.7.3

All good now.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b RishiS 4/25/12 4:20 PM
Hi all,

For those of you who experience this issue and solved it by creating a Google Drive directory on your own, can you answer the following questions:

1. What version of OSX are you running (Snow Leopard or Lion)
2. Did you have to enter your username and password to create the directory?

Thanks all
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b varivoba 4/25/12 4:38 PM
1. Lion
2. Yes

Thanks for the awesome support.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b gmac99 4/26/12 6:07 AM
1. OSX - Lion
2. Can't remember if I had to enter a password =/
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b Nizer 4/26/12 6:32 AM
1. OSX Lion
2. Not 100% sure, but I don't think so.

A note that might be helpful is that when I was first setting this up I changed accounts before completing setup. I signed in as my personal google account and then backed out and then signed in with my company google account before the folder was created.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b Tucker2 4/26/12 11:32 AM
As you  guys suggested I opened my Google Drive through the web, added a new folder and then tried to install the application again on the Mac (Think that was the suggestion?) but still the problem remains - I cannot install the Drive Application(folder) on my Mac.

All advice appreciated,

Regards  T
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b yanicg 4/26/12 12:16 PM
To fix the error below on mac...
Error 487b: invalid root_inodes set ([])

in your finder, goto
/Users/YourUserName

Create a "Google Drive" folder.  OSX should then ask you for password in order to create.
You should now have the following folder "/Users/YourUserName/Google Drive".  This is the default folder Google Drive will try to use.

Setup google drive again and you should now be ok.

Thank you so much for your time in posting a step by step guide for me. It's really appreciated. Google Drive is now working :-)

Once again, many thanks,

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b yanicg 4/26/12 9:24 PM
Where did you create the folder?
Try quitting the app and uninstall it first.  Then create the folder.  Run the setup again.

to make sure your folder is in your home folder,
do the following in the terminal application (by default, it should open in your home folder.

at the command line, simply type: $ ls ~
the ~ will make sure to display your home folder.  You should see your newly created folder in the list.  If you don't.  You can create it by typing:
$ sudo mkdir ~/"Google Drive"
you will then be prompted for your mac login password.
Make sure to include the quotes"" as there is a space in the name.
type: $ ls ~
you should see the folder this time.
Then try installing Google Drive again.  Hopefully you will have better luck.

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b Rebecca 4/27/12 9:47 AM
We have updated the new version of Google Drive to address this issue. However, if you have already installed Google Drive you will need to continue to use the workaround offered by Rishi earlier in this thread.  The workaround is to create a Google Drive folder in your home directory (when you open Finder, your home directory opens by default and will be your username for the computer). Once you've made the folder, you will need to run the Drive set up wizard again.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b loveisabattlefield 4/27/12 10:15 AM
I have tried this but it's still not working... I keep getting the same error :(
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b RishiS 4/27/12 10:37 AM
Hi loveisabattlefield,

Can you try this?

1. Create your folder "Google Drive" in your default home directory.
2. Start Google Drive.  When it gives you the crash dialog, select "Disconnect Account"
3. Sign back in through the menu and run through the setup dialog again.

That should fix it.  Please let us know if not, and we can look into it further.

I have tried your solution but I can't fix the problem. It crashes once I sign in. I work with snow leopard.

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b camira 5/31/12 12:30 PM
RishiS-

I run across this problem frequently. I'm on a Macbook Pro running 10.7.4.  If I disconnect the account, it takes me through the setup wizard again and requires a new directory.  This obviously means that I must re-sync everything again.  I have 250G of drive space with Google so not ideal.  I've done this 3-4 painful times now but the problem comes back again every few days.  Do you have a better solution?
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b camira 5/31/12 1:25 PM
I should that the exact error message is Error: ("Don't know how to decode %s",'text123') where text123 looks to be a password not associated with Google Drive
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b camira 5/31/12 1:27 PM
also just noted that when Google Drive errors out, it takes out Finder with it, i.e. Finder becomes unresponsive -- it must be relaunced.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b moshe shishportish 10/18/12 12:30 PM
I checked the error in my computer and found that the problem is permissions on the folder you have forgotten ownership of the folder
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b filmfx66 12/3/12 6:22 PM
The disconnecting and making a new drive never worked for me. I finally went to the application support folder/google and deleted the google drive folder there and relaunched google drive again. This time it worked!

best of luck.
Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b moins20 12/5/12 4:06 AM
I have the same problem on my Mac running 10.6.3 (yeah, I know, old old old !).

This is the only workaround I have found so far...

1. Make sure your username _DO NOT_ have write access to the Google Drive root folder - chown root "Google Drive"
2. Move all your files into a folder in the Google Drive root folder, make sure your username has write access to that folder
3. Launch the Google Drive application. If it fails to synchronize the first time, acknowledge the error message, give write access to your username on the Google Drive root folder, retry to sync the files, remove the write access.
4. It should now work.

The problem also occurred on Windows Vista Home Premium. Adding the folder corrected the issue though

Or I could try unplugging and restarting my computer!

Common guys this is a major problem with the product that should have been addressed before it was rolled out.

Re: Sorry, Google Drive Needs To Quit - Error: 487b kevinpowertv 11/26/13 8:37 AM
I too am having this same issue. I was able to sync all my files successfully, but the minute I tried to share any of the directories, these errors occur. Each time I start drive and it begins to sync, the error pops up. I even tried un-sharing the directories but that did not seem to resolve it. I've contacted Google directly, but it's been 2 weeks since a response.

This is a serious issue and needs to be resolved. I understand this is a free product for many, but I am paying for Google Apps with my company and extra drive space, so for those of us paying for this, it's pretty frustrating.

Please help!
