| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Scott Gillis | 15/12/13 12:51 | OK, I believe it's a permissions thing with Mavericks and I'll explain why. Last night, I got a notification that said something along the lines of "would you like google to control your computer". Not knowing what this was all about I chose "No". Afterwards, I noticed that's when the google drive issue started occurring. I looked everywhere on my Mac running 10.9.1 and I couldn't find any permissions settings. I even looked in the keychain and nothing was there either. Luckily, I cloned my laptop yesterday afternoon with SuperDuper so most all of my files were up to date. This morning I decided to restore that image back to my laptop and guess what?? My google drive is now working properly! Scott |
| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Dimitris Apostolou | 15/12/13 14:21 | Looks like the Finder versions who are whitelisted are hardcoded so if user is having a Finder version other than those, the same issues will arise. Hardcoding Finder versions doesn't look like a viable solution since it is going to break almost every time the user upgrades to an early access OS build. |

Everything started working again and this morning I was prompted with the following that I have attached below. This time when prompted I went into accessibility and google services was listed so I checked the box to allow and everything is still working. When google drive stopped working, it was when I clicked don't allow. I immediately went into accessibility after that and google services wasn't even listed so that I could enable it. There was no way that I could find to add it back. |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | RishiS | 17/12/13 11:40 | UPDATE: We have pushed a fix for this issue. All you should have to do is restart your Google Drive and you should be able to complete the update process. If that still doesn't work, please follow the guide below: For those of you experiencing this issue on OSX 10.9.1 Mavericks and wish to fix this now, please do the following. 1. Quit Google Drive if it is running. 2. Open Terminal.app 3. Start Google Drive by typing in the following exactly: "/Applications/Google Drive.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Drive" --overlays_enabled_finder_versions="10.9.1" 4. You will be informed you need to apply updates. 5. Go the menu and update Google Drive as you would normally. You will get a request to enter your machine password. Enter that and complete the upgrade. 6. Once the prompt is completed, quit Google Drive, and quite Terminal.app. 7. Restart Google Drive after 10 or so seconds normally.

This also didnt work for me. Then I clicked on "Finder" from my MAC desktop and opened "About Finder" and found that my Finder version was 10.6.6 so I edited the above command to reflect my own Finder version - (Like this: "/Applications/Google Drive.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Drive" --overlays_enabled_finder_versions="10.6.6" ) - and then copy and pasted it into the MAC terminal application window and hit Enter and then followed the rest of the above instructions and my Google drive completed its sync. Dont forget to quit Google drive from the menu and also Terminal app. Cheers, |

"/Applications/Google Drive.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Drive" --overlays_enabled_finder_versions="10.9.1" This "solution" has been posted many times. It does not work for me. The terminal does a bunch of things and then hangs. No update was applied. I have checked my Finder version 50 times. It is 10.9.1. | Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | rthunder | 01/02/14 10:27 | RishiS, Please update your solution to reflect one possible solution for Mavericks and Finder 10.9.2 users posted below by Pastor Gadget. "Try this. Open preferences from the menubar icon. Uncheck the Show file sync status item and hit apply changes. See if that doesn't solve the problem. I tried all of the suggestions in this thread (updating to latest GDrive, quitting, running the command with overlays, etc) all to no avail. This solved my problem -- at least temporarily as long as I do not show file sync status. |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | William Pilipchuk | 14/02/14 14:25 | Every time my wife starts her iMac (running OS 10.7.5) and logs in, Google Drive has an exclamation point in the menu bar and a windo opens and asks permission to update Google Drive. We grant permission and go about our day. The next day the same thing happens asking for permission to update Google Drive. And the next day and so on. I don;t know how to correct this issue? This does not happen on my iMac running the same OS. We are new to Google Drive so I have another question: I notice that after a while working in Google Drive we notice that files that we have opened and made changes show up in the Trash with a ~ (Tilde) in form of the file. Is this normal and why does this occur? Thank you for your help here! ~William |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Michael Redman | 08/03/14 09:33 | Sorry chums but it looks like I have the same problem on Finder 10.6.8, OS X 10.6.8, Google Drive Version 1.14.6059.0644. It tells me it wants to do an update, it asks for my password to make system alterations, I put the password in, Drive starts, but it doesn't comment about the update. I get nothing saying it's done it or on the other hand that it hasn't. Every time I start the MAC, it always asks for my password and frankly I'm getting tired of this. If I start the MAC twice the same day, it asks for the password twice the same day. It didn't do it initially when I first installed, it ran a few days, possibly a week or two, and then started doing it. I don't see a fix for my version of Finder. Suggestions? would it do any good for instance to uninstall Google Drive and then reinstall it, or would I just get the same problem again? How would I uninstall incidentally - just drag it out of Applications? I don't suppose permissions fixes are going to fix this either are they? |
| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Michael Redman | 08/03/14 09:45 | PS. From Terminal tried "/Applications/Google Drive.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Drive" --overlays_enabled_finder_versions="10.6.8" Lots of stuff about starting (copied below FYI), password requested, but nothing looking like completion and as usual does not appear to have actually completed the update. I've given it several minutes but it hasn't done it. Google icon shows sync complete greyed out, and Pause not greyed out. Last login: Sat Mar 8 17:34:57 on ttys000 |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Richard Wiseman | 01/04/14 11:50 | I've just looked at my sync_log.log and, although the log file name does not suggest it contains entries to do with updates, I do see something that looks a little suspicious: 2014-04-01 19:33:15,213 +0100 INFO pid=290 -1405513024:MainThread finder_injector.pyo:379 Injector is outdated. Installed: 3, New: 0 And that's the end of the log. Could this be why it asks me for permission to update every time I boot up - because it never succeeds installing the injector? I reckon it might be, actually, because on the date I was repeatedly trying to fix the issue (4 March - the date of my previous post), there are five such entries. I think there's one such entry in the log for every time I let it (try to) update. (Most of the time I just ignore the request.) Does anyone else see something similar? Richard PS - I found the log by enabling diagnostic mode (see https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2527519?hl=en) and then choosing "Open the config directory" in the window that opens. I didn't actually do any extra logging via that window - I just opened the config directory. |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Alessandro Colavecchio | 27/04/14 11:40 | I am still having this issue as well. Every time I start up my computer, or even wake it from sleep, I get the message asking to give permission to update Google Drive. It's now been 3 weeks or so of trying the solutions posted here over and over. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, and I've redownloaded the disk image install package a few times over the past few weeks. I've run RishiS's terminal solution many times, changing the finder version to match mine (I'm on 10.6.8, my OSX version is also 10.6.8), I've tried adding sudo before the terminal command. I don't know what else to do. This is very annoying. Here are some of the last lines of code that come up in Terminal after I use the RishiS solution. Not sure if this helps anyone at Google or otherwise, since I don't know much about this kind of thing. /Applications/Google Drive.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload It stops there and doesn't change, even overnight (though like I said, I'm not sure if it's even supposed to continue or if that's supposed to be the end). I haven't heard from anyone at Google in this thread for a while now. Have they given up? Because I'm about to. Currently I'm using Google Drive version 1.15.6464.0228. |

| Re: Google Drive 1.13.5782.0599 does not complete the update | Alessandro Colavecchio | 31/05/14 19:32 | UPDATE: I tried the fix that Pastor Gadget posted on Jan 30 again: "Try this. Open preferences from the menubar icon. Uncheck the Show file sync status item and hit apply changes. See if that doesn't solve the problem. Though this didn't work for me on the many times I tried it before, today I tried to start fresh, shut down my computer, turn it on, and tried the fix of unchecking the Show file sync status box. This time it worked. The Google Drive message that asks for permission to update was still there after I hit "apply changes" (since it happens as soon as I turn my computer on and so it was already showing). I just clicked the X to close it and it stayed gone. I restarted my computer too and the message didn't pop up. It just started syncing as normal. As soon as I recheck the Show file sync status box, the permissions message comes back. Thanks Pastor Gadget for the fix! (though I'm not sure why it didn't work before, and I hope Google can still fix their software without requiring a workaround) By the way, I'm not one of the people having trouble with Maverick. This fix worked for me and I'm running both OSX and Finder version 10.6.8. |
