Spreadsheets function for subtotal E.mali 1/4/09 2:20 AM How can I use subtotal function at spreadsheets.?
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal ahab 1/4/09 3:45 AM Google Docs spreadsheet doesn not support a SUBTOTAL function. You will have to use a workaround that fits your spreadsheet... :(
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal Carlos Ribeiro 1/25/09 1:51 AM You can use the table gadget. Insert gadget, select table. It supports autofiltering, groups with subtotals and other functions. It`s not exactly the same (it's a separate object, not a regular spreadsheet) but if all you need are the totals it should be enough for you.
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal loyknight 8/11/09 1:41 PM Carlos I'm sure your answer is good but I've never used tables. Can you be more detailed/clear ??? I have multiple entries by day, need each days total and then a month total. Subtotal in excel worked fine. what do I need to do in Google? Any hope subtotal support will be added?
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal hohockjim 4/5/10 9:04 PM to expand on Ahab's reply, if your "Description" is in column B3 to B40, and the data to sum is in column C3 to C40, you can enter "SUBTOTAL" in Column B on the rows containing subtotals, and use the following formula in column C.
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal Jaytkay 5/12/10 2:30 PM Is this still true? NO subtotals? I find that hard to believe, it's such an elementary part of spreadsheets. I tried the table gadget. I hate it.
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal MitraEarth 5/15/10 11:50 AM Its one of those weird omissions that keep hindering us moving to use Google Docs instead of Excel & Word. The workarounds are just not viable when you are trying to transition work from Excel to Google yes I can understand why some of the really obscure stuff in Excel would be missing like the pivot tables etc , but come on SUBTOTAL its one of the most basic functions and with no easy workaround because it conditionally sums based on other lines not being subtotals. Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal alan.kushnir 5/29/10 4:04 PM Without subtotals working as they do in excel, Google Docs just won't be very useful for us. alan
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal Carl.Simon 6/2/10 6:54 PM I need a subtotal mechanism to order my Amazon.com transactions.
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal P39 6/12/10 9:38 AM Are subtotals something that could be addressed with some scripting?
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal ahab 6/12/10 9:52 AM P39, No, it would require that custom spreadsheet functions would also be able to set the formatting and alignment of their output. In essence a SUBTOTAL can be emulated like this: =TEXT( SUM( range ) ; "format" ) ) < right align this cell This can produce a string with the same format as the numbers used in the range, and only needs right alignment to look like just another number. E.g. A1: $1.00 A2: $2.00 A3: $3.00 A4: =TEXT( SUM(A1:A3) ; "'$'#,###.00") < right align this cell A5: $5.00 A6: $6,00 A7: =TEXT( SUM(A1:A6) ; "'$'#,###.00") < right align this cell In this column of numbers A4 and A7 act as real subtotals, i.e. they are ignored by other any other (sub)total summation.
Re: Spreadsheets function for subtotal MitraEarth 6/17/10 12:55 PM Just being able to provide the same function doesn't address the real
issue, which is a lack of compatability with even basic Excel functions
like SUBTOTAL, which makes it hard to even suggest to a team that their
spreadsheets move onto Google Docs. Mitra
