|Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Arepaking||12/20/08 6:55 PM|
How do I select multiple cells in the same sheet? For instance select A1 - A5 - A7?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ahab||12/21/08 6:42 AM|
In Google Docs spreadsheets it is only possible to select single cells or ranges of adjacent cells.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Arepaking||12/21/08 10:30 AM|
Well, Thanks for your reply.
I found this very disappointing. This is a very basic feature that should be consider since initial development.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||danilobor||3/3/09 5:38 AM|
it's a great suggestion for the dev team!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||kimmeroo22||4/8/09 1:22 PM|
I agree! I was shocked to find out it isn't possible! That seems so basic! Especially because I discovered that using ctrl + shift selects a block of cells/ rows...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||floriank||4/27/09 8:49 AM|
Absolutely crucial to Google Sheets becoming mainstream! Couldn't believe myself that this is not possible - makes it VERY tedious working with larger sheets.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||oracle.oracle.oracle||4/29/09 2:55 AM|
It would be very useful feature. Especially for those who used to MS Excel.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||joshuapurcell||5/6/09 7:30 PM|
I need this feature.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||pdxsteve||5/21/09 10:05 AM|
It's incredible that such a basic, necessary feature has been omitted.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jon780||6/7/09 6:37 PM|
Please please please implement this (which seems to be very simple) feature
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||sjmsing||6/15/09 11:34 AM|
I agree, I'd really like to see this feature.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||cnanney||6/23/09 6:37 PM|
I agree. Need to be able to select multiple non-adjacent cells/rows/columns.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jwby||7/6/09 7:16 PM|
C'mon google. Make it happen!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||bill y boy||7/18/09 11:46 PM|
please dev team xxx
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ATXRaider||7/23/09 6:35 AM|
Yep, I just found out this didn't work either, so I am casting my vote! Until this is added, I cannot fully break away from M$... bummer!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Picdesk||8/3/09 7:59 PM|
Basic feature is needed! Please make it happen. Wasting hours editing one row at a time.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||what.sandy||8/14/09 11:28 AM|
I really need this! with ctrl... like excel...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Schlø||8/15/09 9:52 AM|
Come on, dev team!! this feature would really boost usability. and, you take it for granted in any spreadsheet-application
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||bilingual teacher||9/1/09 6:34 AM|
All of you are right. This is important for proper functioning. Is the answer to make my sheet on Excel (this google sheet does not even have 2003 capability, let alone 2007!) and then fix it up once I upload it? I am doing conditional formatting ("what if" colors) and am having to manually input the rules for every row.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||carenbackus||9/12/09 2:22 PM|
Has this issue been fixed yet? Agree this is a VERY basic functionality of spreadsheets, and makes me wonder if I shouldn't go back to excel...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Dvolatility||9/21/09 11:33 AM|
yes, please I need it bad!!! Thanks
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||mr_texperience||9/22/09 9:41 PM|
+1 for dev team to implement this feature.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||tobinrogers||9/23/09 10:53 PM|
I also agree. Very necessary for the current project I'm working on, plus upcoming ones. I can't use Google Spreadsheets because of this one missing feature. I'll have to use Apple's Numbers, then hopefully I'll be able to import properly once the document is finished.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||duncspur||9/29/09 3:58 AM|
Astonished that this isn't part of it - having to export to Excel at the moment
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jjmarch||10/5/09 11:36 AM|
I just started testing Google apps and was amazed to find that multiple (non-concurrent) rows could not be selected. This functionality is present in almost all Windows applications. As much as I like Google I am unable to recommend their apps for use in a corporate environment. There is not even a workaround available.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||modeler4||10/9/09 2:53 PM|
When the google docs team went to college, didn't they have to write reports using spreadsheets that had this feature?
Hello? Is everybody there an Art major?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||googleallthetime||10/18/09 2:45 AM|
Yes. I really like the way the developers go beyond the MSOffice thinking. In this case - selecting multiple, non adjacent cells with the ctrl key pressed is what I need.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||seal36||11/5/09 8:36 AM|
Just for the sake of the dev team knowing how important this is - I agree, this would be an essential funciton to add to Google Docs. Thanks!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||lucknu||11/5/09 10:18 AM|
this is an important fuctioN!@
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ilijav||12/26/09 6:53 AM|
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Daedal||12/29/09 11:26 AM|
I would consider this one of the most basic spreadsheet operations. Selecting multiple cells is truly a time saver... On the contrary, it seems much easier at this point to just download the document, edit it in Excel/OO and re-upload it!
Google blew it on this one... big time.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||hbakkalbasi||1/10/10 9:53 AM|
Hey guys - thanks for a great product. Just want to put another vote for prioritizing this feature for future development. If I can't select multiple non-concurrent columns it becomes very difficult to create multiple charts from a table where a single column serves as the index. Instead, I have to create a new table containing the index and the column for each column I want to chart. This makes my spreadsheets very messy.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||iTimmy||1/17/10 2:36 AM|
My word, 13 months later and still not able to do this. And to think that Google want to compete with IBM Lotus Live and Microsoft BPOS. Errrrm, perhaps not.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Frich||2/3/10 8:23 AM|
Agreed. This is an important feature that needs to be added
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Jadn||2/16/10 12:36 AM|
Please implement this!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Krille_R||2/22/10 6:08 AM|
Implement this! Please!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||expertlearner||3/5/10 1:52 PM|
This is incredible... I'm so positive about Google Apps, but it needs this kind of stuff... yesterday I read about Microsoft Live Workspace and Live Small Business... this is an additional reason to check them out.
Pleas fix it.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Christoffer Furnes||3/25/10 12:15 AM|
GoogleDocs is great! But this is so super-basic that I can not use Google spreadsheet... :(
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jmonger||3/29/10 11:18 AM|
Crazy. Anyone who uses Excel or any other mainstream spreadsheet application uses this functionality. How did Google miss this?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ikku100||3/31/10 10:36 AM|
this is crazy. i thought they wanted to compete with ms office???
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Veganalyst||4/13/10 8:28 AM|
Another vote for including this functionality. The new updates are great, but not being able to select multiple non-adjacent cells makes GSheets largely useless for me. Very strange that this isn't supported...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ryanhollister||4/18/10 3:37 PM|
Another vote for this feature, seems like a must have.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||pecabo||4/26/10 6:44 PM|
Is anyone at Google listening? Doesn't sound like it.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||kushiel||5/10/10 8:48 PM|
I'm surprised that there is no way to select multiple cells.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||bornID||5/13/10 7:06 PM|
No way to select non- contiguous spreadsheet cells using cntrl key
This feature is a must for normal spreadsheet operation.
Thankfully there is Open Office 3.2.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jamwil||5/17/10 5:44 PM|
The ctrl-click conspiracy mustn't go on any further!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||CASHEETS||5/19/10 6:11 PM|
Please, please, please! This is something I use ALL THE TIME! I feel handicapped without it. Need this, it's very basic. Thanks!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||azguy22||6/1/10 10:31 AM|
I will agree this is a needed feature. Within five minutes of using this app I was searching for help on how to do this. Yes, very basic and very needed. Spreadsheets are already boring and tedious enough without having to manually select every cell one at a time.
Give us this feature, please.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||PatrickTh||6/2/10 6:46 AM|
Another vote. Tried to do this today but couldn't, just found out about this issue. Please develop this.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||dave.anderson360||6/7/10 9:11 PM|
Add my $.02 worth for having this feature. Pretty please??? Any day now would be nice.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||N7V||6/11/10 10:09 AM|
This feature is needed, +1 vote.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Eric Jensen||6/16/10 7:05 AM|
We need this. I have info in one cell that I want to copy to multiple, non-adjacent cells. This is very, very basic. Please add this feature asap.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||rhizopoda||7/1/10 7:28 PM|
Ditto...this is a feature I really miss.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||TvL||7/12/10 8:11 AM|
Adding one vote xtra for this feature.
I'm using google documents as a container for some time now. Today is the first time I'm trying to create a spreadsheet online and it's a bit of a disappointment. No multiple selection and not possible to block a single cell in a sheet.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||estepup||7/12/10 12:12 PM|
I'd like to cast my vote to have this functionality added to Google Spreadsheets. I very impressed in what we have so far, but it is VERY time consuming to manually select each cell, make the formatting change, select another non-adjacent cell, make the change, etc etc...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||dmorris68||7/19/10 1:39 PM|
+1 for this. I've spend a great deal of time over the last week developing a spreadsheet from scratch in Google Apps (I usually just import Excel or OO files). I'm actually quite pleased with Google's functionality, and the unique features that Excel doesn't have such as the SORT/EXPAND/CONTINUE formulas (Excel requires macro code for this type of thing). However this inability to select non-contiguous cells/ranges has driven me nuts, and almost made me go back to Excel.
Please add non-contiguous cell selection!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||milkonmonday||7/29/10 2:24 AM|
Hope this will come soon, it's really frustrating that it can't be done yet
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||lostatlimbo||8/18/10 6:08 PM|
I'm really surprised that this still hasn't been added some 2 years later. Seems they've added a bunch of fancy features, but what about the most basic ones? I constantly get hung up on this and end up going back to Excel. Frustrating.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||leissag||8/22/10 7:53 PM|
Wow... I am amazed as well that Google does not add this basic spreadsheet feature. What's up?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||jtbayly||8/29/10 12:10 PM|
+1 This gets my vote as the most absurd exclusion ever. I have 3 columns. The first is a date, the second 2 are numbers recorded on those dates. I want to make 2 charts, with the date column as the label in each one. Impossible. I have to duplicate the date column in between the 2 columns of numbers. Wow. Excel here I come.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||GMcArdle||8/31/10 7:59 AM|
+1 again. Very disappointed to stumble on this answer when searching for how to do it. So I can't even make a chart using discontinuous sets of columns?
I'm going to work around it by appending copies of the columns in the required sequence, REPEATED for every chart!
Come on Google, this was in Excel 97!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||DarrinAdams||9/2/10 4:31 AM|
Please add it. Ctrl select...
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||milkonmonday||9/6/10 3:22 AM|
Any change we can expect this function in the near future dev team?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||ds99jove||9/6/10 1:37 PM|
I use google docs for about everything and find it pretty competent most of the time. Therefor I couldn't believe my eyes when I discovered that it's not possible to select multiple, not adjacent, columns. This task that seems like an easy one most be unbelievable tough behind the scenes... only reason I can think off.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||nataliem105||9/7/10 12:52 PM|
Please, Google, this is a basic spreadsheet function! I love your product, but I NEED this functionality ASAP.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||406W30th||9/7/10 1:31 PM|
Add me to the list of those baffled by the exclusion of this very basic feature. I love Google Docs, but this one leaves me scratching my head.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||amandasul||9/13/10 6:39 AM|
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||donnguyen||9/13/10 10:35 PM|
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||springzor||9/16/10 2:54 AM|
How can you have a spreadsheet application without the possible to select multiple with the ctrl + click function.
I'm sorry but as long as this isn't implemented I can't start using Google spreadsheets seriously.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Steve_OnlineOCG||9/23/10 5:58 PM|
Please Add this functionality!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||Jake P||9/30/10 1:56 PM|
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||sketch42||10/5/10 9:31 AM|
only think i can think is that no one at google even realizes this thread.
This is so basic its not even a feature .. its like saying sure you can by a car but later find out it has no brakes. its NOT a feature, its a necessity!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||baditaflorin||10/14/10 2:20 PM|
I need this function too. The basic of basic, to find the sum of 2 cells.Now i have to use a calculator ( a offline one) or make = (A4+A9)
This is manual work . We want to go to the clouds , become robots and stuff. Love you google, but f you for this. At least answer and tell us that you can not implement this because it`s trademark or something.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||educationCMH||10/28/10 6:39 AM|
How can I create two pie charts off of the same data without support for this?
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||B1ackDiamond||11/3/10 1:55 PM|
Yes, this is a must. I was doing testing to see if our office could maybe switch to Google Docs from MS Office, but missing this basic function has stopped all testing.
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||technofm||11/4/10 10:34 AM|
Please add this!!!!!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||TJE||11/5/10 12:35 AM|
I stand in complete disbelief, that this feature has not been implemented yet??!!!!!? This would be on page 1 of the Online Spreadsheat Programming manual, no?
This, and then the lack of seeing which cells are in a SUM, by clicking the sum cell, will make me swich completely to having all docs online at Google.
PLEEEEEEESE fix dev team!!!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||riper||11/10/10 1:26 AM|
This would be a very welcomed feature! Especially since this is how most people expect a spreadsheet to work. Google, comon and show how intuitive you really are!
|Re: Select Multiple Cells - Spreadsheet||dan_in_dresden||11/11/10 4:16 PM|
+1. Annoying that this does not work in Google Spreadsheets. Can't be that hard to implement.
