when searching through Google a blank page is returned. i initially thought it was the browser IE7 but this occurs when using Firefox and IE8 beta.
however if i use the edit with microsoft word feature the full page with results can be viewed.

Hi, I have a work around I think. When you initial go to google and search with a key word, it builds a search url and some thing on our machine recognizes google and yahoo and inserts this style sheet with a big image. I still do not know the root cause, I am sure this is a nasty virus some one wrote. However, for now a quick work around can be to update the URL with google's and yahoo's IP's. As an example, I go to google and search for hello, I get that blank page. Now the URL should be: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hello&aq=f&oq= Update this URL with google's IP to be: http://220.127.116.11/search?hl=en&q=hello&aq=f&oq= . You should be able to do the same with Yahoo as well. This is a new but a very nasty Virus I think that unfortunately we 3 folks are infected with to start with. Hope this helps, the only difference between the work around posted above and my work around is that this will work with IE7 as well and we can still use the .css (StyleSheet) that google and yahoo have in place to format this output for us. Update us if a fix to this virus is found.

If you're using IE6, try to change your IE setting as follow :
tools->internet options->security->custom level->miscellanious->enable meta refresh
OR you can try to run ipconfig /flushdns in command prompt to register your dns again
I believe it can be solved by using these solutions

If anyone finds out how to solve this please let me know. I had what Norton didn't classify as a virus but as "Suspicious items" it's name was "Bloodhound.SONAR.1"
After I found out I had it and fixed it was when I realized my google search stopped working and only showed blank page. ReddyReddy's work around is awesome, thanks a lot for that

My friend also has this problem. The issue extends from IE7 to Firefox. Google, Yahoo, Altavista and Ask.com are affected. I found that the dogpile.com search engine still worked. He had installed or upgraded rather, windows live. He removed all the windows live components except for windows live messenger. This happened around the same time the search engine thing started.
I've found that dogpile.com still works if you need to use that.

I just started having this problem a few weeks ago also. However, it's not a continous problem, and only seems to be a ocassional problem at the present time. If it's an issue with a virus, Norton doesn't catch it, and Spybot Search & Destroy doesn't catch anything either, and neither does Windows Defender. I've run scans with the programs mention, and no viruses, spyware, adware, malware, worms, etc...
This is seemingly (by my experience) a recent problem that's showing up. Maybe I'm way off here, but has Google been doing any upgrades, reworking or anything of that nature lately? Just curious if that might also be behind what's causing this. Nowadays it could be anything and everything, who really knows??? Also to consider could this be some slime ball tactic by Microsoft to coerce users to go to Bling? A friend suggested that as something to consider...
I run Windows Vista Home Premium, Norton 2007, Spybot Search & Destroy and CC Clearner, and Orbit Downloader ... could anything other than Vista or Norton be causing this? Such as Spybot Search & Destroy or CC Clearner or Orbit???
I'm willing to look at any of those or other programs as a cause, until they can be definitely excluded...
My laptop may be infected with that virus that ReddyReddy mentioned, but nothing I run on here has caught anything...
I also use Firefox 3.5.1 and when using the previous verson never had this problem by the way. In retrospect, this seems to have started when I upgrade to Firefox 3.5.1, but that just speculative thinking on my part on my part...
Anybody ask the honchos at Google what they might be able to do about it???

I recently had a problem with not being able to get any searches on Google or even Bing! After running a spyware and removal of few adwares and viruses ,I found that an IP address was logged in into my Local connection's DNS instead of having obtain an IP address automatically .Having checked the later solved the problem.

If anyone still has this problem, after much much searching someone finally pointed out to me that it was probably because of damage done as a result of removing malware from my system (which I had, indeed, just done) and they pointed me to http://www.brothersoft.com/winsockfix-66663.html and IT FIXED THE PROBLEM IN SECONDS!!! Everything works great now!!!!

The WinSock fix fixed this problem for my coworker's computer. Thank you, DMickey!

I noted that it's just localhost 127.0.0.1 entry at my HOSTS file. Many thanks to Dmickey79. The winsockfix fixed the problem in just 20 seconds. After using it, restart the computer, the problem is solved !!

Hi, this drove me crazy, tried every solution mentioned and that I could think of, but the simple thing that finally fixed it was to entirely clear my browsing history.
Hope it will fix it for you, too ;-)

I did a system restore to about a month before the problem started. This has reduced the problem, but not eliminated now. About half the time I get a blank page now compared to all the time before. Weird.
