Why does Chrome Automatically redirect to a wrong website (and how can I stop it?) UberFede 2/9/09 1:53 PM
I checked this out and none of my other browsers have a problem.  The problem is that when I type www.facebook.com in the browser, or click the facebook tab in my frequented webpages, it automatically goes to www.myspace.com.  I do not use myspace, and I don't frequent that website.  It is frustrating and I cannot find a way to get to facebook.2009-02-09

Update:  typing www.facebook.com while browsing Incognito works.

Sometimes it does not work when in Incognito mode.  I have done everything. I cleared everything, deleted everything, run spyware scanner and virus scanners.  NOTHING.  This has to be the most frustrating error.

Which version of Chrome is this? (Click the spanner, and then the "About Google Chrome" menu item)

Hmm... seeing as how it seems to work fine in Incognito mode, have you tried clearing your browsing data in Chrome? Click on the wrench icon > Clear browsing data, then make sure to clear at least the browsing history, cache, and cookies. See if that helps. ^^

I have tried clearing all my data. Sometimes it works in Incognito Mode and other times it doesn't.  The only sure fire way to fix it is to restart my computer.

Hey Google Chromies "Can We Fix This?"
Having same redirection issue's anything up to a dozen redirects can occur between when I click the link and actually open the new tab.
By the way all you guys having this trouble best I can offer is to set google pref's to open link in new tab and then click "BACK<<" until back arrow goes faint.
Looks like the link actually works and then goes awol.

ame this is happening with me... only to facebook.com though
here's what happens:
1. I'll be browsing the internet or I'm on facebook.com
2. sends me to either A) myspace.com saying invalid friend userID (wtf? i have never been on myspace on this computer and I'm the only one that has touched this computer, it's new) B) a microsoft.com toolbar site that says that there was an error loading the page, or C) a google.com 404 error.
3. All this happens with http://www.facebook.com/home.php remaining in the address bar... as well as the facebook logo being removed or remaining on the tab....
4. What's funny is that when I try to go to facebook on IE8 or FF or even Opera, it does the same EXACT thing. the only way for me to get rid of this bug/script/error/whatever it is, is to log off and log back on and that seems to work, but only temporary until the above happens again...

Questions: is it Chrome? (but it happens on EVERY browser)
where is this coming from? (I doubt it's coming from the server, because when i log off and log back onto windows it fixes itself. and it happens on EVERY browser the same way I described above)

I'm using Windows Vista Business 64-bit on a Lenovo T400.
I haven't been to any insecure sites or done anything to compromise my computer.. it just started happening soo.......

The same EXACT thing happens to me as well, even if I clear my browser date and only with Google Chrome. It happens with Facebook, Twitter, and HuffPo, and they all automatically direct to MySpace, a site I have never voluntarily visited. What's happening??

Sounds to me like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter an whoever else it happens with are all in bed together.
I'd say they are subtle links that are allowed through once your browser cahce starts to fill up so it looks accidental but in fact is just another sucker link.
The more traffic through these sights the more market advertising share they can prove, they don't care if you don't buy anything.
The extra traffic alone ups the value of their business from a sellers perspective.

On unix machines, there's a file /etc/hosts where you can automatically define where to go for hosts; I don't know what the equivalent is on a windows machine, but perhaps someone has played a prank by redirecting facebook to myspace?  Chances are the incognito option ignores this, as well, giving further reason to suspect it...

---> on a windows box, it might be found at %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\.  (found via wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file)

I've found that flushing the dns is a temporary fix Start>Run>ipconfig /flushdns

But I think it may more likely be the as edgar says at http://goo.gl/4NTl that the problem has to do with a linksys/cisco wrt160n router described at http://goo.gl/p8L5  (I actually haven't yet tried the fix, but it seems way too coincidental)

Hope that helps

I am having a similar problem.  When navigating to my blog in chrome, I get redirected to a random site I visited 2 days ago.  This happens regardless of whether I type the URL in the address bar, if I click on the link in Google, or if I navigate to my site via my blog host.  I can view the page just fine in IE.  I love chrome, but might have to switch because I can't find any info on this problem.
