try this

wrench->clear browsing data (wrench is that rightmost icon in the address bar)
and make sure
clear history, empty the cache, delete cookies are checked
and make sure clear data from this period is set to everything

and press clear browsing data

I'm having the same problem here too. I clear all browsing data and it doesn't work. Then I try to reinstalling it back but still it doesn't work.
I can't search using google chrome address bar and the google search more than once. It keeps displaying "This webpage is not available."

Below is the original error message

Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.

Sorry for double posting but finally my problem is fixed. It's because of my BitDefender antivirus software has the "Real-Time Antivirus Protection' on. When I turn off the real-time protection that was activated when I newly installed it, I can do the Google search more than once.

This can only be accessed if I right-clicked the BitDefender icon on the taskbar, and then click Basic Settings. It's under Online Security.

I was having a similar problem.  I was unable to use the address bar to search.  However, when my release was updated, one of the options was not populated.  Once I made google my default search engine, the address bar search function has been working.

If you're using BitDefender 2010 (and peehaps earier) do this:

Right click the BitDefender icon in the system tray (bottom right of the task bar)
Click on Settings to open the User Interface Settings window/box (top right)
Swithch UI to Expert mode
Close the User Interface Settings box
Click on Antivirus
Click on the Shield tab
Click on Advanced Settings to open BD Active Virus Control Settings.
You need to add Chrome to the Exclusions list.
Click on the "+" button to give you the Open executable files window/box.
Navigate your way through the folder hierachy to C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Windows User Account]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Chrome.exe
Click on the Open Button

Chrome is now in the Exclusions list and should now work perfectly.

make the default search as google in setting and type words directly in address bar.

I had this same problem: when I typed a search term into Chrome's address bar, I was getting the "This webpage is not available" error.  Clearing browsing data did not fix the problem.

I noticed this wasn't happening when I searched from an incognito window (i.e., I could search from the address bar of an incognito window.)  I also noticed that when I typed "www.google.com" in my address bar (since I couldn't perform a search from my address bar), that it was taking me to https://www.google.com (the secured site.)  I hadn't made any changes, so I'm not sure why I was suddenly being taken to the https site, but I was able to perform searches from there...

I followed the instructions at the link below, and my problem was solved: I'm now able to search directly from the address bar.

Here's what fixed it: http://www.mytechguide.org/2010/05/24/make-google-https-secured-ssl-search-default/

Actually, this is more of a workaround than a solution, but I thought maybe it would help identify the problem...

You need to re-add Google as the search engine
under "Manage Search Engines"

google.com  google.com http://www.google.com/search?q=%s

I started having this problem a few days ago. Now it works again... I had to enable it as my Default search engine by clicking on the wrench, then Options-->Basics-->Search/Manage search engines-->clicking on "Make Default" after mousing over the google search engine option. Not why it became disabled all of a sudden.
