|How I unblock Google Chrome for McAfee Antivirus on my computer, which prevent me to install Google Chrome||Deepankar||12/14/08 11:11 PM|
I had McAfee antivirus, which prevent me to install Google Chrome. It block Google Chrome installation on my PC. If I disable and install Google Chrome then I am able to install. But after installation and when I enable McAfee then It will block port for accessing websites (any) from browsing from Google Chrome.
Please specify me how I can unblock in McAfee configuration, or made some entries in it so that I able to browse through Google Chrome.
Thanks in anticipation.

Same happened to me.. My company configured McAfee to block chrome.exe and chrome_installer.exe ... I just do not know why! .. So, just RENAME the installed file: chrome.exe to another one and that's it =) it works..

Yes u are right, I also apply the other method.
goto the virus console by right clicking and selecting the option from the context menu in tray's icon of McAfee.
you can add, the application chrome.exe to your approved list of files having access to different sections, in the Access Protection
do check your Access Protection log at the same place for more details
( list of things being blocked )
I don't think the McAfee monitoring system and it giving privileges
has anything to do with windows at all... McAfee has a specific
setting that says "Prevent HTTP communication" and "Prevent FTP
communication" in its "Common Maximum Protection" category(in the
above mentioned access protection properties) ..
when double click on "Prevent HTTP communication" append "chrome.exe" in the middle of entries in "Processes to exclude" text box,
click OK and restart the system or just try to run chrome browser.
Have Great Day ......

I did the same as what ivanarizmendi suggested, ie. renaming the chrome.exe to another name. But only problem using this as a browser is the memory reference error it gives if you click on a link which invokes a popup window or something.
Has anyone else found similiar issue, if so any recommendations as workaround. I cannot change mcafee settings, as I donot have the required access priveleges.

Can't you add it to your exceptions list?

after reading deepankar's advice, i opened up mcafee, and clicked on the "navigation" link in the top right corner. i then went into the "firewall" section and, under "program permissions" i allowed chrome "full" access. to do so, you'll have to click on chrome in your list of programs, and choose "edit." also, under "smart advice and advanced settings" i clicked on "ask me to decide" under the area that deals with enabling smart advice. many thanks for those of you who gave feedback here.

I am facing the same issue. However, McAfee >> Navigation >> field is disabled in my case.
I am not able to click anything.
I recently bought the netbook and McAfee trial period is over. Whenever I click anything it prompts for buying.
OS : Windows 7
Kindly advise how to unblock Chrome from McAfee.
Thanks everyone !

Using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7 here, and had the same problems with Maximum Access Protection enabled. Unfortunately, Enterprise doesn't have the "navigation" and associated firewall sections. Fixed the problem by going into the Properties section of "Access Protection". On the "Access Protection" tab, in the Categories window, select "Common Maximum Protection", and in the opposite window, scroll down to "Prevent HTTP communication" under the Rules heading and highlight it. Hit the edit button, and add "chrome.exe" to the "processes to exclude" list. That's it.

I am prettywell a novice at computers: recently gotta new PC which came loaded with trial McCaffe but I prefer AVG so installed that. McCaffe trial pops up continually nuisance demanding attention and cannot delete - I accidentally pressed 'block Google' button on one of their constant pop ups! Now Google access is blocked even tho I have 'allowed' it in AVG.
I really dont want to activate McCaffe as have paid for AVG...... what should I do?

I'm running McAffee VirusScan Enterprise v.8.7i. I opened the VirusScan Console, then opened 'Access Protection'. Under the 'Access Protection' tab, I highlighted the 'User-defined Rules' category. There is an entry for every browser imaginable (besides IE). Every one of them is blocked by default. I deleted the entry for 'Chrome Browser', and now Chrome works fine.

Were you able to resolve your issue d.daquanni.2013? I'm now in the same boat as you. My McAffee has expired, I don't want to renew it, so the navigation section is inaccessible for me to change my settings.
