Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Cassie Wilkerson 12/28/12 12:53 PM
Okay first thing is first how did you get this www.delta-search.com overtaking your site. You accidentally installed it with another download per a user agreement as accepted - it was a piggyback software you will find these with most downloads. I will give you advice to have tools on you computer if it happens again and then give you features to reset your chrome browser to remove. Know this most piggyback down load software are not listed and my state in a user agreement hidden you accept listed as a third-party or feature of the software you down loading - what you don't know these secondaries are really tracking/marketing software to target you to other businesses selling or spamming you stuff you really don't want- and based of marketing strategy of your searches devise methods to psychologically target ads to you and or estimate your buying power beyond your bank account even estimate you future earnings potential over a coarse of time.

Advice one if you install things have these two programs Revo uninstall and Spybot Search and destroy on your computer as a saving grace her is why Revo uninstall can find hidden install or some hidden plug-ins you get this direct from the Revo site they offer a free trial period or purchase the Same with spy-bot search and destroy get from their direct sites never a secondary free site.

How to remove WWW.DELTA-SEARCH.Com you first uninstall delta from your computer

Then you go to three bar button on google - on extensions you want to find delta search and if there you disable and should be a trash button and click on it.

Wait not finished there you have to go to settings as it is still programmed on start up - if your you have checked open a specific page on startup then next to is is settings highlighted in blue click on it you should see the listing of WWW.Delta-search opening on startup delete it then you should have a box blank to enter what ever URL page you want to open upon opening your web browser - if you want google.com then type into www.google.com and from now on that will be your first opening page or you can set gmail or what ever feature url. And finally you have to reset your search - to google.com or which ever search engine you prefer if you see delta well there is an arrow tab just scroll down and return back to the search engine you prefer.

Hope this advice helps but do have those two desktop tools as revo will help you un-install misses such as hidden program leaching and spy bot -search and destroy goes beyond most internet spyware and malware and will let you know if some of your downloads are dangerous with hidden tracking ware it can also help you remove a lot of malware. - wish you luck (some of these tactics will help with other trojan horse piggy back search engines on download ware - all they are marketing track programs with agreements of the sites you have down loaded - best advice you can eliminate if you scan and really read the user agreement the language is tricky how they hide it= take care be safe on downloading! - Cassie

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Cassie Wilkerson 12/28/12 1:20 PM
Another advice hidden items are bypassed via the user agreement so it may bypass some of your internet security software cause you did agree to download it as most time in that user agreement they use some really tricky language - to hide as third-party or state such things as a suite of our companies software - when you down load it these free ware have contract agreements and make money applying added software for them such as delta-search ........

Why I hate contracts that state third party and they refute to list who or what that third party does - agreements are contracts remember proverb "The big words give you much but the little (fine tiny print) words can take all back and more!"

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Paulo Loterson 2/4/13 5:30 AM
Hi,

I will not go into details, just give you the easiest way to get rid of Delta Search, though it is not free of charge. You should use antivirus, that can remove adware and browser hijackers, e.g. Spyhunter (http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-delta-search-hijacker).

If you want to use any other antivirus, check beforehand if it can detect and remove unwanted programs automatically, because many can not.

Of course you can choose a free removal method, which would be removing any unfamiliar browser extensions. Please note, the applications like Delta Search tend to be named under completely different names and this way protect themselves from being removed. Moreover, if the name of the file is given in some forum, you might have a different version with a different name.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Farhad Sindi 2/12/13 4:39 PM
1. control panel and chose uninstall a program
2. There are two delta related files, uninstall them both
3. under chrome settings click manage search engines and remove everything beside    google
4. in chrome settings find this : "Open a specific page or set of pages.  Set pages"
5. click set pages, now a popup will appear, delta is also hiding here, delete it, so only google remains.
6. You are done
good luck
btw. I think I got my delta infection while updating DAEMON TOOLS.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Steve Weir 2/12/13 5:14 PM
delta search and related program is not in my uninstall list in control panel.
nor is it in the chrome settings.
my homepage is set to www.google.com.au
and still i open chrom and 2 tabs appear, deltasearch and yahoo or whatever.
now in trying to fix this i somehow managed to get a 3rd tab "AVG search" (the internet security)

the only program i intstalled was steam to play pc games

and the only changes i made to the computer was changing my firewall settings from "interactive mode" where i manually accept programs, to "automatic mode"

Definitely came with Daemon Tools!

On un-installing delta-search from from win8, Win8 helpfully informed me which other programs had been packaged.  Daemon Tools Lite was the culprit.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Dave Whicker 5/8/13 6:16 AM
I had exactly the same problem, even after deleting the relevant items of software through control panel and Chromes extension folder. This is the way I finally managed to get rid of it:

Go into settings and the second section down should be 'On Startup'. Click on 'Open a specific page or set of pages' and then click on 'Set Pages'. Delete it from there along with any other unwanted pages and just leave it with google.com and you're good to go!

Open your Google Chrome - go up to the upper right hand three lines (beside the star).  Click on that, go down to the Settings tab.  That's where you'll find the delta selected as your browser.  remove that and select the Google Chrome.  This is what I did and it removed Delta.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Delta Hater76 7/28/13 11:19 AM
I have done everything listed above, and my Google Chrome still goes to this Delta Home page.

I have not only gone into Chrome and manually removed this trash, but I have also used Revo to wipe out Chrome 2-3 times.  This Delta Home page still comes up, but only on Chrome.  IE and Firefox work fine.

I have also done a full system scan/clean with both Spybot and Adaware.   This thing is living somewhere and totally corrupts any incarnation of Chrome I re-install on this machine.  I have also removed anything of suspicion in Uninstall programs through Windows.

I have done everything... Anyone know why this thing continues to corrupt my Chrome?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search daknuts 7/28/13 3:56 PM
...have you removed the 'delta' entries in add/remove programs yet? it's not as easy as simply removing it as your default page/search engine within your browser...
good luck.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search yumzy subba 7/31/13 5:12 AM
Thank you. I had tried most of the thing people have suggested but every time I went to extensions, I couldn't find any "delta".I did go on setting and I did had the urge to click on 'set pages' but I thought it wouldn't make any difference, but it did, as it was where i found "delta" hiding. Once again thank you.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search yumzy subba 7/31/13 5:33 AM
It worked for the first 4 minute and BAAM! When I search something (eg. youtube) it takes me to the delta search and when  go on images it takes me to yahoo like wtf?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search daknuts 7/31/13 12:12 PM
ok... here's the method that worked for me...
First make sure you remove any and all 'delta' entries within the add/remove programs window.
Next, open google chrome, navigate to settings (using the three bar button found at the top right of the chrome window just under the close window/program button, and then click on 'manage search engines' in the 'search' section of the settings page you just opened. When the smaller window opens with your choices for default search engines, you will need to look for another 'delta' entry and hover your mouse pointer over it. When you do that, you will see some options appear and you will then click on the 'x' button at the far right end of the string... that will remove it from your browser completely. While you are in this settings window, make sure you make google your default search engine...
good luck!

Thanks Farhad. #4 solved the problem after I tried everything else.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search mormomboy 7/31/13 11:10 PM
Ok, so I finally fixed it AFTER all the steps that most people suggest, changing the new tab button to new tab, changing home to new tab, and removing the search engine after manage search engines.

Also search computer for uninstall a program(in settings tab for windows 8) and uninstall delta there.

After all of those, go to advanced settings in Google chrome and check, then unchecked so that there is no check mark in box the setting "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed"
In the section labeled system.

Once you have unchecked that box, press new tab and it should be back to normal.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/6/13 2:49 AM
Sorry but nothing has worked for me. I uninstalled Delta and every program associated with Delta. I eliminated all extensions. I changed the Settings to Open New Tab Page and I eliminated the Delta search engine from the Search Engine options just in case. In fact, I've done all this several times. Still getting stupid pop-ups and Chrome home page opens on the Delta-search.

Of course, I also ran my Kaspersky which didn't help, and SUPERSpyware, which found threats but didn't help this.

Googling desperatedly, I found a thread here:
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=125944
So I tried doing it myself -- ran RogueKiller 64 Bit and AdwCleaner, both of which found Delta threats and eliminated them. BUT after a reboot I opened Chrome and IT'S BACK - that DAMNED Delta home page has still hijacked my Chrome!

I've been working on it for hours now.

I didn't run Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit because it's a zip file and I don't seem to have WinZip any more and don't want to spend a fortune buying it. Would that do it?

PLEASE someone with super-serious skills help with this.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search mormomboy 8/6/13 10:02 AM
Don't spend money buying winzip, just download 7zip.

Did you try these steps?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/6/13 12:31 PM
Thanks mormonboy, but I'd already done all of those things, several times, and the unchecked box was unchecked so I don't think it would have helped. Also, if you read my post, it wasn't a new-tab problem, it was a home-page problem. After  cleaning the computer with malware remover programs, and closing and reopening Chrome (sometimes rebooting) the home tab still came up on Delta and all my other home tabs didn't open.

HOWEVER, later that evening I did find a solution: it appears the home page problem isn't the Delta virus per se, but a redirect instruction embedded in the browser. Anti-virus programs don't catch it because this portion of it isn't precisely a virus. The crucial explanation was here:
http://www.precisesecurity.com/tools-resources/adware-tools/avast-browser-cleanup-download-and-usage

I followed the instructions: downloaded Avast Browser Cleanup and ran it, selected Chrome, and selected the "reset Browser settings to its default values" as instructed. Hey presto, it worked!!

I was too tired at that point to post the solution and just went to bed, but wanted to share this one with the forum.

Of course, you first have to clean Delta completely out of your computer, which takes some work. I hope I've done it after running four different adware clean-up programs. Each program found new bits of it hiding here and there, so I recommend running several. All the forums say it's very important to get it off your computer because it's a truly malevolent virus that can do considerable damage. People should be aware that if they are suddenly getting new pop-up ads, it's because of Delta and all the nasties it carries with it.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search mormomboy 8/6/13 1:53 PM
That is good here you found a solution.

As a note though, while trying this for another persons computer(I see this a lot), on some ones computer the option was already unchecked. Some times you have to turn it on, save it then turn it off.

I play League of Legends, and on a laptop I used, every time I went to a different WiFi location, I had to open Internet Explorer turn off line mode on, then turn it off before it would log in.

Just be aware of those possibilities,
that is sweet you got rid of this horrible virus, it is such a pain. Mozilla tried to download it with the install just the other day.

How to make sure it never comes back?

When installing any program, select "custom install" and disable everything you don't want. Only install the software you are trying to.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Nick Bery 8/6/13 5:55 PM
didn't work
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/6/13 9:41 PM
Sorry to hear that, but did you do all the steps I did? First you have to scrub this nasty virus out of your computer. Here's the steps I did, as I remember them:

1. Uninstall Delta in any form it takes in your regular program list, using whatever uninstall program your system runs (on mine it's Control Panel > Programs and Features, highlight anything published by Delta and click the uninstall button).
2. Do all the usual stuff they tell you to do: in Chrome that's
     a. Click on the three-line widget at the top right of your screen, then click Settings > Extensions, highlight each extension and click the X on the right to delete it.
     b. In the same screen, click Settings in the top left-hand list, then click On Startup > Open a specific page or set of pages -- find and delete the Delta option
3. Download SUPERSpyware and run it, let it scan everything and clean everything it finds.
4. Go to the first link I listed above -- http://www.precisesecurity.com/tools-resources/adware-tools/avast-browser-cleanup-download-and-usage -- and do everything he says to do. That includes running RogueKiller 64-bit or 32-bit, AdwCleaner and Malware Bytes Anti-Rootkit (I didn't do the last of these but it's a good idea). On my computer, each of these found different parts of Delta and killed, isolated or deleted them.
5. You will have rebooted somewhere in there, but reboot again and see if the same Delta home page is still coming up in your browser. If it is, THEN run Avast Browser Cleaner, select your browser from the list on the left, and click the "reset Browser settings to its default values" option. Close and reopen your browser and cross your fingers.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. Best of luck.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Casey Tackett 8/6/13 9:54 PM
I finally got it to go away. I did a system restore to a previous date after going through the removal process again, restarted my laptop. Opened up Google Chrome and now everything is just fine. Thanks for the helpful reply. :)
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/6/13 11:51 PM
Good idea. I figure your way did the same exact thing - reset the browser, except without downloading anything extra, which is nice. Too bad that can't just be done within Chrome via the Settings. With evil Delta on the prowl, changing the home page via Settings just didn't hold.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Danyel Pullen 8/7/13 4:25 PM
What is the other file related to Delta Search? I've tried all this and it still won't uninstall completely. It keeps changing my Google Chrome web browser.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/7/13 4:52 PM
If you're absolutely sure you've scrubbed the virus off your system, the last step is to reset Chrome. For some reason, Chrome's installed way of doing this for the home page doesn't work in this case: it seems to work but then reverts. I used the Avast Browser Cleaner, as described above, which you can download free on line. Casey did it by restoring her whole Windows system to an earlier date.

If that doesn't work, you still have the virus in your computer and you need to go after it with every adware program you can find. Rootkit removers are best.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/7/13 5:28 PM
I had this problem a couple days ago. Go to your uninstall menu and sort by install date. There a 3 things installed by Delta Search. One is called "Browser Protect" I think that is the one that keeps putting Delta in your browser start-up menu. I can't remember the name of the other one, but it's logo is a green triangle. Remove those, be sure to change Chrome settings, restart your computer and all should be OK.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/7/13 6:59 PM
Just to note that this didn't work for me. It took the additional adware-removal work and the browser cleaner to get rid of it. Also I'd suggest being careful about this. Delta imports all kinds of tertiary programs including ad pop-up programs and tracking programs that don't appear in the Program list and so can't be uninstalled that way.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Angela Ryan 8/7/13 7:42 PM
I have tried uninstalling it from my programs, I have deleted one but  the Delta Chrome toolbar will not let me uninstall it, it says: "The procedure entry point freeaddrinfo could not be locatd in the dynamic link library WS2_32_dll" ????
THANKS
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/7/13 8:43 PM
I don't know about your system but in Windows the usual way to uninstall a program isn't through Chrome but through Control Panel. Click on the Windows icon at the very bottom left corner of your screen, then open Control Panel and select Programs and Features. You'll see the list of programs there. If you click on "Publisher" you'll put that column into alphabetical order. Identify any Delta-published program, including Browser Protect, and click "uninstall" button at the top.

For Delta this doesn't work, however, because it's a virus that has embedded secretly all over your system and can't be deleted entirely this way. You have to use the adware-removal programs. The good news is that you can download several good adware-removal programs free off the Internet. See my earlier message and the links on this. After a thorough scrubbing, reboot your computer and see if the Chrome home screen comes up again with Delta. If it does, then try Avast Browser Cleaner.

It is same for IE also. But this problem is not there in mozilla. I dont know what to do. Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Kevin.Lai 8/8/13 4:18 PM
Thanks God. You have saved me a lot of time. I finally get rid of that Delta Search thing. thank you!!!!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/8/13 4:30 PM
The "Open a specific page or set of pages" in Chrome doesn't work for this. It seems to be gone but comes back when you reopen Chrome.  Which adware cleaners did you use? Did you try the ones I recommended?

Even if you used all of them, be sure and delete the www1.delta-search.com from the list of "Open a specific page" options in Chrome. Don't just change the option.

If you've cleaned the virus and the only problem left is that your browser home page and tabs come up on Delta, download Avast Browser Cleaner. It will check your browsers and probably say there is no problem, but don't be deterred: select Chrome from the list on the left and click on "Reset browser settings to default values". Then close Chrome and open it and see what happens. If it works, do the same thing in IE.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/8/13 10:01 PM
Glad to hear it!

I just found today that at some point, while I was desperately trying to delete Delta, Norton Security Scan (which I never chose or used) also invaded my computer and couldn't be deleted. Kept giving me an intrusive big showy pop-up insisting that I run a "trial scan". The Windows uninstall did nothing whatever except bring up the pop-up again. Norton's best advice was to download the actual Norton Security program and then uninstall it. Right, ha ha. I thought better of Symantec than scumming around at the Delta level! Creating malicious adware to make you buy an anti-adware program? Scumbags.

So I had to do ANOTHER "how do you uninstall" search, tried several other things suggested by the Norton website that didn't work, finally located a thread which mentioned a powerful free program, Revo Uninstaller, and found it got a good review on Cnet. Downloaded it (ducking the tricky homepage that tried to maneuver me into buying the "Pro" version), and it worked! But then Revo Uninstaller put a nasty little "Hunter" icon on my desktop that I couldn't hide, and I had to uninstall Revo Uninstaller! I THINK my computer is back to being clean now. Whew. It's a tricky world out there.

But Revo Uninstaller did do a great job on the Norton virus, so someone might try it on Delta and see what happens.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Shannon H1979 8/9/13 7:46 AM
I've done all of those steps as well. It still comes up when I open new tabs! I've uninstalled and re-installed chrome several times now!

Any luck?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/9/13 12:25 PM
Yes, it's completely miserable trying to get rid of this thing. But reinstalling Chrome won't help in the slightest. Delta embeds itself on your hard drive and attacks any browser it can wiggle into. It will just wiggle back into Chrome if you remove and reinstall it.

Exactly what adware-removal programs did you try?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Sam 8/10/13 2:22 AM
I've done all from the above but still Delta Search was there.
Finally I've got a solution - adwcleaner (and it's free to download): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Download > run it > click 'delete' > it will ask to restart your computer - allow and your browser will be fine as it was :)

Adwcleaner fixed it for me - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/10/13 8:55 AM
I've cleaned if off my PC completely it seems. Let's just summarize the steps I took.
1. In Windows uninstall, sort by date. There were 3 programs installed at the same time:
  Delta Search
  Browser Protect
Can't remember the name of the third, but the logo was a green triangle
2. Uninstall all 3.
3. Reset your Chrome settings (Open a specific page or set of pages). Check IE home page also.
4. Run an adware remover. My Norton security does this automatically. The above link will get you a free one.
   I've been told it works.
5. Restart your PC.
In my conversations with others, it seems that Delta does different things on different PCs.
I think it detects what you have installed and loads adware accordingly. Re-installing Chrome doesn't work because
Delta changes the start-up settings each time you bring it up. Step 4 is important. I think some of the adware is
another copy of Delta and re-installs itself. Not 100% sure on this, but that's a feeling I got when discussing this
with others.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/11/13 12:28 PM
Thanks for the contribution. As someone who finally got rid of Delta but remain in solidarity with those still trying, I gave your instructions a look. Maybe for someone more fluent in computerese this would be great, but it was over my head. I couldn't follow all the references and would have given up trying if I'd encountered this in my Delta-removal search.

If AdwCleaner is doing the trick, it's much much easier for novices.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/11/13 1:18 PM
I was in the computer business for almost 30 years. It's tough not speaking at a technical level. Anyway, let me try to help some more. Go to "Control Panel" and select "Uninstall a Program". The list you get has several columns. Click on "Installed On". Find Delta Search. There will be 2 other programs installed at the same time (Browser Protect and the one with a green triangle logo). Uninstall those 1 at a time. Next, go to Chrome settings (click on the 3 horizontal bars at the top right corner, and settings are about 3/4 of the way near the bottom). Select "Open a specific page or set of pages". Delete the Delta Search thing by clicking on the "X" on the right end. Close that window to save. Then run AdwCleaner. Others have said it can take several tries to get it to download.  Then, re-start your PC. I would suggest getting a good security package. They scan your system and remove any garbage. Any more questions, feel free. Answering questions is what I did for those 30 years.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Ellie Stammers 8/11/13 3:56 PM
I have tried everything everyone has said: Uninstalling both files from the 'Uninstall a program' thing. I have also tried going into settings and changing the start up pages to just Google. I have also tried 'Manage Search Engines' and deleting all of them apart from www.google.co.uk. I have also tried downloading that SpyHunter thing but I didn't know how to use that and also, I read that it was a browser hijacker. I have tried literally everything and I'm sitting here at midnight crying because my mum will kill me if she found out my laptop has a virus thing again... SOMEONE HELP ME!!!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/11/13 4:27 PM
Did you try AdwCleaner?

Check it out here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

And see earlier posts on this. Doesn't sound like you've done the virus removal programs yet. Without doing that step, you're doomed.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/11/13 5:53 PM
I think you may have missed one program. There are 3 you need to uninstall. I'll list them: Delta Search, Browser protect, and one more that has a green triangle logo. Like Tafkira said, use Adwcleaner. Several folks have said that does the job. Don't forget to re-start after following all the steps. Any more questions, just ask away.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search HPOK 8/12/13 3:12 AM
As Tafkira and Al Reeser tell you, try AdwCleaner. I did, and it worked. It was really simple. And if your mum finds out and gets upset, show her this list with all the people who had the same problem. Personally, I felt much better when I saw the solidarity of people like Tafkira, Valdemar, and Al. Thanks, guys!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Kim Dimac 8/12/13 7:01 AM
I've done everything you've said to do apart from the Extension part. When I checked the extension there was no 'Delta Search' anywhere. Yet, whenever I open a new tab Delta Search will always come. I have uninstalled Delta Search from my computer and everything. What do I do?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/12/13 7:50 AM
Try reading my posts from yesterday once more. Maybe you missed something. It is important to uninstall all 3 programs. One of those keeps putting the Delta URL on your Chrome start-up option. I'll be glad to keep trying to help.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Nikhil Bapat 8/12/13 9:23 AM
I did ALL of those things. Even searched for deltasearch.com on google chrome properties section. Nothing there.. I changed my "on startup" settings to google.com and it works fine with the opening. But whenever I open a new tab STILL  i get directed to deltasearch.com ! How do I remove this ?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/12/13 9:48 AM
I've not had that problem, but try this: First be sure that "Open a specific page or set of pages" is selected on your settings menu. On top of that page is a search. Put in "new tab" and search. In those results, you will see an "Appearance" heading. Under that, it should show your home page. If not, click on change & change it, being sure that "Open this page" is selected. Hopefully, that will do it.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/12/13 12:20 PM
Hi Nikhil,

Lots of people get the New Tab problem. It's part of the evil Delta virus to get into your browser this way. (And by the way, BrowserProtect never appeared on my own file list, so I'm not convinced it's the problem.) Anyway, you have to remove the virus to get rid of this; altering setting won't help. Try this:

1. Download and open AdwCleaner. Close all your other programs (bookmarking this page). Then click the Search button on AdwCleaner and let it locate all the suspicious files on your computer. It will bring up a screen full of info about suspicious files it finds. Look it over and make sure there's nothing there you want to keep. Then press "Delete" on AdwCleaner and let it do its thing.
2. Go to Chrome Settings and repeat everything you did before: that is, in the "On Startup" section, go to "Open a page or specific set of pages", click on "set pages" and remove Delta if it is still there. Then go to the "Search" section and remove Delta if it is still there.

Hopefully that will do it.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/12/13 1:50 PM
Hey Tafkira,
Consider this: Maybe this thing attacks in different ways depending on Operating System version. I got that Browser Protect program, you did not. I did not have the New Tab problem, but many others did. Also, different pop-ups appeared for different people. I got one that said I needed to upgrade Chrome (NOT!). Someone else got a Norton pop-up. I did not. I think they impersonate reputable companies to lure folks to their sites based on installed software. I have Windows 7 on an HP. Maybe some are still on XP, Vista (shudder the thought), or 8. Any thoughts on this? It seems we both want to help folks. Maybe we can find some solution for everybody.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/12/13 2:02 PM
I'm sure you're right, Al. Various threads on the Web indicate that Delta does many things, installing tracking programs and pop-up ads and invisible things that slow and damage your computer. So it makes sense it would manifest in different ways. What's needed on this forum is a simple, clear, numbering list of things to do that includes AdwCleaner and crosses over the OS differences. From the feedback on this list, it seems AdwCleaner does the trick IF the browser settings are also cleaned afterward. But new people are logging on to this site and not seeing earlier discussions which spell out what to do. Perhaps the best thing is simply to write a short clear numbered list of what to do and send it to each new desperate user. It should be composed for novices.

By the way, to remind myself how it worked, I just re-ran AdwCleaner and it found another bProtect folder and a related file and deleted them. So I think it's worth doing it a few times.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/12/13 3:41 PM
I totally agree. I made a list of steps based on my experience, which I will continue to pass on. From what you said, I assume you have done the same. Maybe, between us, we can help others to combat this menace.

I also took additional precautions. I had Norton run a full system scan, which takes well over an hour, and all it found was 15 tracking cookies.

Bye the way, I enjoy this "tech-talk". I was a mainframe systems programmer for almost 30 years. Now that I'm retired, I don't get to engage in technical discussions very often. I'm not that well versed in the PC/server world, but all is based on logic in the computer world.
Let's KILL DELTA.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Melody C. 8/12/13 3:51 PM
If you did not intentionally update your Chrome settings but your homepage or default search engine has changed to Delta Search, it is likely that an application or extension is causing the issue.

To address this issue, please first check your Extensions:

1. Navigate to your extensions (Chrome Menu Button > Settings > Extensions)
2. Disable (uncheck) every extension that you do not recognize - you may wish to go ahead and disable every extension you have installed (you can re-enable them later).

It is also very likely that there is a program installed on your operating system that is causing settings changes. Please check your program files for any installed programs you do not recognize.

These settings may be under these names or variations of these names, but we would not recommend for you to uninstall any programs from your operating system unless you are confident that the program is not needed:
  • Delta Toolbar (and variations)
  • Browser Protect
  • Browser Defender
It is likely that most of the programs were installed at the same time, so you will want to sort by "Installed On" date to see if other unknown programs were installed at the same time.

Note: Updating your extensions and uninstalling programs will not automatically revert your settings, so please follow these steps to change your Chrome settings back. Reset your Chrome browser settings:
  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section.
  4. Click Reset browser settings.
  5. In the dialog that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" checkbox is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. Reporting these settings allows us to analyze trends and work to prevent future unwanted settings changes.

You can also reset your browser settings manually by checking the below settings. Change your default search engine.
  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "Search" section, click Manage search engines.
  4. Check if (Default) is displayed next to your preferred search engine. If not, mouse over it and click Make default.
  5. Mouse over any other suspicious search engine entries that are not familiar and click X to remove them.

Please also check your settings upon launching Chrome.
  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "On startup" section, select Open a specific page or set of pages.
  4. Click Set pages.
  5. Remove any unfamiliar pages.

Lastly, you will need to update your Home page.
  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "Appearance" section, if the "Show Home button" checkbox is selected, see if the page listed below is the home page you’d like to use.
  4. If the page isn't the home page you'd like to use, click Change and select your preferred page.

If you're still having the same issue after following these steps, please report back and we'll continue to help troubleshoot. Some of our users have reported success with anti-virus software that will remove traces of Delta Search from your computer. As always, please be careful when downloading programs from untrusted sources, as even recognized programs can sometimes be bundled in with software that causes unwanted effects on your computer.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/12/13 4:08 PM
Dear Melody,

While this is helpful, please note that these are the standard instructions issued by Google and other forums that are NOT working to remove the delta-search virus. Chrome users do these steps repeatedly and become very frustrated as the problem comes back immediately. Delta is not an extension, and while it appears in Settings in various guises, it cannot be removed by changing these settings. It is a virus.

As to responsible care regarding downloads, according to reports Delta is downloading sometimes as a carrier program on a link that perhaps should have been used but sometimes it seems to appear out of the blue.

The only way to expunge it is to use an adware removal tool. AdwCleaner seems to be doing the trick for people. I would recommend that you include advice about adware removal in your suggestions in future or you will simply be created mobeus loops for people that will leave them stranded and frustrated.

If you followed all the steps and still it didn't work out quite well, go to your control panel and the list of programs. Find " Yontoo " app and uninstall it. Careful, it will ask you if you want to disable it or remove entirely from your computer, so choose the second option. Uninstall it from the computer and you'll be free from Delta Search.

It worked with me so try it out :)

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Kutay Mark Celenk 8/14/13 8:02 PM
disabling the extension or anything you'll do over chrome menus will not be enough. You'll still see that damn delta pages when you click on "new tab" button after all.

reboot the computer, press f8 and start as "safe mode"

then delete the file called "NTRedirect.dll" from your computer.
this should wipe it off

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/15/13 9:20 AM
Here is my fix for the Delta problem on an HP with Windows 7 and Norton Internet Security:

Go to "Control Panel" and select "Uninstall a Program". The list you get has several columns.
Click on "Installed On". Find Delta Search. There will be 2 other programs installed at the same time (Browser Protect and the one with a green triangle logo). Uninstall all 3 of those 1 at a time.
The link is : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
Others have said it can take several tries to get it to download. Then, re-start your PC. I didn't need this due to Norton, but it worked for others.
I would suggest getting a good security package. They scan your system automatically and remove any garbage. Any more questions, feel free.
This thing installs differently on different systems. Check previous posts by Tafkira and others. You may need to try various methodologies.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/15/13 12:59 PM
FULL INSTRUCTIONS TO REMOVE DELTA FROM YOUR CHROME BROWSER:

Delta is a dangerous virus that infects your computer. It includes tracking programs, takes over your browser functions (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, whatever) and creates pop-ads. Some of its components are invisible but will slow down and damage your computer. It cannot be removed through normal methods such as "Uninstall" or adjusting your browser settings.

TO REMOVE DELTA:

1. In Windows: Go to “My Computer” and click on Control Panel > Programs and Features. Uninstall all programs published by Delta. TIP: When you find www1.delta-search, check all programs published at the same time and uninstall them too.

2. In Chrome:
a.        Open Settings (click on the three-line widget at the top right corner of your screen). Click Extensions, see if there is anything you don’t recognize. Highlight those and click the X on the right to delete them.

b.        Still in Settings, click On Startup > Open a specific page or set of pages. Find and delete the Delta option.

c.        Still in Settings, in the Search area, check to see if Delta is listed. If it is, delete it.

ESSENTIAL: THEN CLEAN YOUR COMPUTER OF THE VIRUS.

a. Download AdwCleaner from this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/.
Read the “Usage Instructions” (below the “Donate” button) carefully. Download AdwCleaner and run it as instructed.

5. Reboot your computer.

6. Open Chrome and repeat Steps 2(b) and (c).

7. Close and open Chrome. If the home page comes up okay, open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone. If either the Home Page or a New Tab comes up with Delta, then  you must do one more step: download Avast Browser Cleaner.
Here’s one good site: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/avast-Browser-Cleanup.shtml
German site here: http://www.chip.de/downloads/Avast-Browser-Cleanup_60753592.html

Select your browser from the list on the left, and click the "reset Browser settings to its default values" option.

7. Close and reopen your browser and see if the problem is fixed.

Good luck!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/15/13 1:47 PM
Hi again, Tafkira,
That is a great set of instructions you posted to help folks get rid of the Delta menace. I could not be so detailed since I was rid of it in less that 2 hours, and the steps I gave was all I has to do. That is why I keep recommending getting good security software. That is what saved my ham. Those will automatically scan your system after every download and install. We all invest hundreds, if not thousands of $$$$ into our computers. I think it's worth the $50 to $100 per year for that. Those free anti-virus program are OK to a point, but they just block true viruses. Delta seems like a virus, because it changes settings on browsers, but it's really an adware propagator. That being said, let's keep helping people as best we can. Whenever I give my advice, I also tell them to check your posts as well.
Have a great day.

NOTE:
1. Please make sure to make a backup of registry, if something goes wrong.
2. Also, create a restore point to be double sure.

My new page in Chrome was being redirected even after I uninstalled Delta search from my PC, removed the extension from the chrome and followed all the procedure mentioned in here.

The actual culprit is hidden in a dll which autostarts during the windows powerup.

Here are the steps to remove it:
1. Press <Windows key> + R to open the "Run" window.
2. Type "msconfig"
3. Select the "startup" tab in new popup window, titled "System Configuration".
4. Uncheck/disable the NTRedirect.dll and apply/save the changes.
5. Reboot. Ta-da... it is gone. :)

To remove it from registry. It is optional(To be done after aforementioned steps):
1. Press <Windows key> + R to open the "Run" window.
2. Type "regedit"
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Shared Tools -> MSConfig -> startupreg
4. Delete the folder named NTRedirect, listed under startupreg to remove it from the registry.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search JustWondrin 8/16/13 6:16 AM
First, get it off your computer! I have Windows 7 and had to turn off administrator as I kept getting the "see administrator" type message, saying that the administrator didn't want to uninstall the program (paraphrased). Open control panel, and in the search box, type in UAC. You will see a box asking for permission to change user account control. When you follow the boxes and give the permissions, you will finally get to a page where there is a slider that you position to "never ask permission" Then restart your computer. Uninstall all Delta related programs (Check all the above posts, they have them there). Then go to your browser and follow the instructions that Melody C gave, which is;

"These settings may be under these names or variations of these names, but we would not recommend for you to uninstall any programs from your operating system unless you are confident that the program is not needed:
Delta Toolbar (and variations)
Browser Protect
Browser Defender
It is likely that most of the programs were installed at the same time, so you will want to sort by "Installed On" date to see if other unknown programs were installed at the same time.

Note: Updating your extensions and uninstalling programs will not automatically revert your settings, so please follow these steps to change your Chrome settings back:

First, you should change your default search engine.
Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
Select Settings.
In the "Search" section, click Manage search engines.
Check if (Default) is displayed next to your preferred search engine. If not, mouse over it and click Make default.
Mouse over any other suspicious search engine entries that are not familiar and click X to remove them.

Please also check your settings upon launching Chrome.
Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
Select Settings.
In the "On startup" section, select Open a specific page or set of pages.
Click Set pages.
Remove any unfamiliar pages.

Lastly, you will need to update your Home page.
Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
Select Settings.
In the "Appearance" section, if the "Show Home button" checkbox is selected, see if the page listed below is the home page you’d like to use.
If the page isn't the home page you'd like to use, click Change and select your preferred page."
After you've done all that, change your user account control back to what it was before changes, and restart.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/16/13 7:51 AM
I did not have NTRedirect.dll on my system. This another example of how this thing installs in a variety of ways. My advice to all is to read ALL previous posts to figure out which one works for your set-up. I'v seen at least 4 flavors of the install, & therefore, an equal number of fixes. Good luck to all.

Yeah @Al, I don't have NTRedirect.dll either.  AND I've done a virus and adware/trojan search.  I use Advanced Care Ultimate.  But maybe I need to try others.

Alternatively:

If you are using new version of Google Chrome, please follow steps below to restore your Chrome settings.

1. Exit Google Chrome on your computer. Once Google Chrome browser is closed completely, continue with next step.

2. On Windows, go to Start > Run to open Run box. If you do not see Run option, press Win + R keys to get Run box on the screen. Mac users should proceed with Go Menu > Go to Folder option.

3. Enter following for the operating system that you are using. You can simply copy and paste it directly in the run box and press the Enter key.

Windows XP users:
%USERPROFILE% >Local Settings > Application Data > GoogleChrome > User Data

Windows Vista & 7 users:
%LOCALAPPDATA% > GoogleChrome > User Data

4. This will open a new folder that will contain more files and folders. Look for default folder in the list. Rename default folder to any other name say ‘backup default’.

5. Then try to open Google Chrome, it will automatically create new default folder with fresh (and default settings). Once all is working fine, you may delete the old ‘backup default’ folder.

I had to uninstall Delta and erase it from Chrome, and because it piggy backed on a software i downloaded, i had to uninstalled everything i download that day.

But it will always pop up in your settings-set pages tab...

if someone can figure how to get erased completely, please post.

Please see my earlier posts on this subject where complete instructions for eliminating the Delta virus are posted, and from many other users.

Delta is an adware virus and you have to use anti-adware methods to get rid of it. It's important to get it cleaned off your computer because it will damage your computer.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/17/13 12:47 AM
Hi, -going- -- AdwCleaner is fine and so is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, another popular one. But I always double check recommendations for such programs by checking reviews of them on Cnet or PCWorld. I recommend you do the same and satisfy yourself that they are legit.

Just be sure to download the free versions. These programs sometimes put their "Pro" version prominently on their home page, giving you the impression that you have to pay for them. Look for the free version which will work just as well for this.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/17/13 12:55 AM
Hi shagufta -- Should need extra time just once when it's rearranging the new cleaned registry files. Your computer should run a bit faster now if anything.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Rowanne Westhenry 8/17/13 5:58 AM
I have uninstalled everything to do with Delta and changed all the settings per instructions. It no longer appears on startup, and everything was ok for about an hour until it reappeared when I open a new tab. It is no longer in my history, or settings, or installed on my computer, but it keeps coming back. How do I make it go away?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/17/13 8:20 AM
You should not need to uninstall the program you wanted. You are right, Delta piggy backs legit stuff. I had 2 other Delta-related programs (Browser Protect
and the one with a green triangle logo). Others got different sets of stuff. Sort the uninstall menu by the "Installed On" column. Find Delta & there should be a couple others. I think they get in your system before the program you wanted. Unless you installed a bunch of stuff on the same day, those should be all you see on that date. Anything not related to what you wanted should be removed.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search ariel.balter 8/17/13 8:20 AM
Sadly, there are some of us who HAVE done everything recommended, and delta search is still coming up as our new tab page.  I have removed delta from all extensions, settings, etc in my computer.  It is not set as my new tab page.  I uninstalled all delta related software.  I have run scans with (1) adwcleaner (2) avira (3) Iolo malware detector (part of Advanced System Care).  I don't think there is anything that has been suggested that I haven't done, and I STILL have the problem.

Others like @Rowanne, @Jessy are having the same problem.

If I was using Firefox, I'd be searching through the detailed settings in about:config.  But Chrome does not have a general place to look for stuff like that.  They have many such pages for different things.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/17/13 8:39 AM
Dear Ariel,

If you're still getting the New Tab problem, the last step is to reset the internal default settings on Chrome. Unfortunately the Chrome Settings interface doesn't achieve this, so you have to get into the background settings. There are several ways to do this suggested on this site, which involve getting into the regedit program, but I'm not comfortable with that so I used the following simple method and it worked.

1. After you have done everything, including using an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner, if either the Home Page or a New Tab still comes up with Delta, then download a relatively simple program called Avast Browser Cleaner.

Here’s one good source: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/avast-Browser-Cleanup.shtml

When it has opened, select Chrome from the list of browsers on the left, and click the "reset Browser settings to its default values" option.

2. Close and reopen your browser and see if the problem is fixed. You can then uninstall Avast Browser Cleaner if you like (I did).
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search RobHeaton 8/17/13 9:27 AM
Did not work. I can vouch that avast is not malware, but I recommend downloading it directly from there site, not some either site that may include more malware. That being said, still doesn't work. I have tried everything including multiple uninstalls and can't get rid of delta-search.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/17/13 9:37 AM
Hi, Rob -- Sorry it didn't work. But I was assuming you'd already run an adware removal program. Is this the case? When Delta gets into your system, uninstalling programs doesn't get rid of it as it embeds in the registry and all kinds of software nooks and crannies. The only way for a novice to scour it off a system once it's done this is to use a proper adware removal program designed to search the entire system for its components. Two programs have proved effective for this, at least going by feedback on this site: AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Please try and send an update. -- Best, T

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/17/13 2:41 PM
TO REMOVE DELTA YOU MUST CLEAN YOUR DELTA VIRUS OFF YOUR COMPUTER. This requires using additional anti-adware software. Fortunately this is free on the Internet. The following programs are safe to download.
1.  Download AdwCleaner from this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/. Read the “Usage Instructions” (below the “Donate” button) carefully and run it as instructed. Reboot your computer.
2. Open Chrome and check Settings again – the New Tab settings and Search settings – delete any remnants of Delta still there, such as www1.delta-search.
3. Close and open Chrome. If the home page comes up okay, open a new Tab and see if Delta is gone. If either the Home Page or a New Tab comes up with Delta, then download Avast Browser Cleaner from here: http://www.avast.com/index. When it has opened, it will check your system. If it finds nothing, then select Chrome from the list of browsers on the left, and click the "reset Browser settings to its default values" option.
4. Close and reopen your browser and see if the problem is fixed.
Good luck!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Debbie Moree 8/17/13 3:03 PM
I am having the same problem.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search RobHeaton 8/17/13 4:40 PM
Ok, so given the variety of replies I am not going to claim this works for all, but it worked for me. First I did everything you have found on all the other sites including:

- Removing the extension
- Changing home page etc. back to what I wanted it to be
- Opening with regedit and deleting the key registries
- Deleting the google chrome default folder in appdata and letting chrome recreat
- Completely uninstalling chrome and reinstalling
- Running the avast broswer cleaner

After that everything was good except I was still getting the "new tab" issue. The solution (for me) was that the company Avast makes a free version of their antivirus tool that I have used for years and already had on my computer. I ran a full scan of my computer and it caught a couple of seemingly unrelated things, but then I ran a boot time scan.

This boot time scan restarts your computer and performs a scan using DOS. So you get a black screen with white text, and it takes two or three hours because it deep scans a lot of files, when the scan found issues I chose option 2 which is "Delete All" files that are infected. It found about 5 files that were infected, including .exe files I didn't even know about that were buried somewhere on the system.

Long story short, after scan and reboot, I no longer have the new tab issue, and seemingly have finally completely removed that worthless piece of crapware.

Just FYI the avast program I use is avast! Free antivirus, available from their website avast.com

I will let you know if it comes back, but so far so good!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search RobHeaton 8/17/13 4:42 PM
Also, if you haven't done this I highly recommend running msconfig so start menu, type msconfig in box hit enter. Then click on startup tab. You will be amazed how much crap your computer runs when it starts up. Disable anything that looks suspicious, but be careful not to disable system items or things like your printer's system tray otherwise you might lose some functionality.

Thanks!
I did the first step numerous times but Delta kept showing up on Chrome, but not on IE or Foxfire. I completed your next 2 steps and that's where I found the culprit hiding and removed it. It hasn't shown up yet. I also deleted it from the browsing history and now I'm running another scan. The weird thing is that it never showed up on previous scans after I changed the default browser(your first step). If people are having issues removing this demon, I highly recommend using these 3 steps!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Rowanne Westhenry 8/19/13 5:16 AM
It seems to have gone for now, I had to run a system restore as my computer wouldn't start. When it eventually booted up, I found two files that had been installed at the same time as delta, and since I've removed them it's been fine.

I recommend running a system check and restore from the boot menu.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Walter Penn 8/20/13 7:46 AM
Hi All,

My first post.  Was having similar problems.  I followed all the online advice about changing SETTINGS and EXTENSIONS and SEARCH, but it was like it "didn't take", that damn Delta thing kept coming back.

What fixed it for me was uninstalling a program called "Browser Defender".  It seems that little rat hides in the background and promptly undoes all the stuff you described below.

As soon as I got rid of "Browser Defender", and repeated the steps you've described below, all was well.  Delta hasn't comeback anywhere since.

(and no additional downloads or 'cleaners' which make me nervous as well)

Hope this helps

Walt

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Walter Penn 8/20/13 7:48 AM
Try removing a program called "Browser Defender", that worked for me.

It seems that "browser defender" sits there and un-does all your clean up efforts.

Hope this helps.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Walter Penn 8/20/13 7:52 AM
Hi,

I've posted this advice elsewhere on this blog, my apologies if this is redundant.

What finally fixed it for me was uninstalling a program called "Browser Defender".  It seems that this thing sits in the background and immediately un-does all of your clean-up efforts?  (mean)

As soon as I eliminated "Browser Defender"  (and then repeated the re-set search settings and so forth you've already described) Delta was GONE.

Hope this helps

Hi everyone - just an update to announce that our new Chrome release (Version 29) includes a feature to reset your Chrome settings. This update should now be out to 100% of users. Resetting your browser settings will reset the unwanted changes caused by installing other programs. However, your saved bookmarks and passwords will not be cleared or changed.

Reset your browser settings:

  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section.
  4. Click Reset browser settings.
  5. In the dialog that appears, click Reset.
More information is in our help center.

We are aware that there may be programs installed on your operating system that will continue to override your Chrome settings. If you've reset your browser settings but still notice that your home page, default search engine, new tab page or other settings are still not as intended, please post with the following information:

1. What incorrect settings do you see? What is your default home page or default search engine? Screenshots are very helpful and will be sent to our Chrome team.
2. Please go to your program files - are there any programs you don't recognize? Anything with the word "Delta" or "Browser" in it?
3. Have you tried any programs to scan your computer or to remove this program? If so, which ones?

Our team is working on providing additional troubleshooting steps and will continue to update this thread.

Download this software: AdWCleaner. It searches and scans for all the plugin, add-on, unncessary data like 'delta' in your system and cleans it perfectly.
It worked for me.

After going through all the steps listed here, even re-installing Chrome, it remains when I open a new tab/start up Chrome.  I deleted all my extensions along with even unfamiliar program and it still is here...  Any help?

i'm having same issues, i've tried everything, can't find delta search or other programs like browser protect in uninstall programs in control panel. also checked settings for google chrome, checked manage search engines, open homepage, set homepage, there is no delta-search anywhere. and yet a new tab opens with delta-search! really annoying, what do i do?

Most folks reporting this problem found that AdwCleaner works.
Get it here:

Good idea to re-start your PC after.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 9:26 AM
i downloaded that and looks like you have to pay to remove the malicious software... is there any free malware removal tool for windows 7?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 9:27 AM
i already have f-secure client, but a full computer scan comes up with a clean result each time, however, malware removal tools like spyhunter and adwcleaner come up with lots of malwares! what to do?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/25/13 9:44 AM
Go back thru the posts on this problem. Look for a post by Tafkira on Aug 15. I think it is on page 6. Very detailed instructions for removal. I can't help more because when it installed on my machine, my security did an auto scan and removed the junk. All I had to do was the uninstalls. I was rid of it in less than 2 hours. Just lucky, I guess. Good luck!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search LAM47119 8/25/13 9:49 AM
I tried the other things on this page and they did not uninstall Delta. I went into the Settings then typed search in the search bar. Reset browser settings came up and I clicked on it.  The just click Reset again and it seemed to uninstall Delta.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 9:55 AM
i have already tried resetting browser settings, twice, and both times it didn't work! everything is reset, but new tab still opens with delta-search! annoying!!

al-reeser - i had this delta-search issue few months ago, and i could uninstall from the 'uninstall programs' from control panel, and also change the settings on chrome to remove it completely including extension addons. but this time its different, it doesn't show up anywhere on the laptop, but still keeps opening up on new tabs in chrome. i don't know where the actual delta-search malicious software is stored as f-secure is not able to detect it!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tom Pestak 8/25/13 11:46 AM
It's been a week or so since I posted in this forum.  I had the same problems many others have experience - where literally NOTHING (none of the provided steps) works to remove delta search.  Sometimes it even seems like the problem is gone, after resetting the Chrome browser settings - until the SECOND time Chrome is opened, New Tab brings up Delta search AGAIN.

The reason for this is that Delta Search has taken over a Windows .dll file and is sitting in memory.  Basically, the way to think about it is this:

At the highest level, it has inserted itself into the Browser itself.  This is in the form of extensions, and appearing in the settings for various features, like which search engine to use, what to open on new tab etc.  So yeah, the inital instructions are correct for how to remove THAT.  The next problem is that Delta has inserted many files and lines of code into the config files that browsers like Chrome look to on initialization.  This is why an uninstall of Chrome matters not because Delta is smart enough to know how Chrome installs and what files/folders it exists in.  So you must delete any and all traces of files that were installed at the moment Delta was installed.  You can do this in windows by running a search by Date/Time.  So if Delta search bit you today when you were installing some shareware or something, you can look at My Computer in windows Explorer, and type this into the search bar "datemodified:‎8/‎25/‎2013"  if you search for that every file that was modified (or created) today will show up.  Find delta search or babylon or whatever other names it goes by and notice the exact minute that it installed.  To do this, make sure your folder is set to Detailed view of files.  Anything (and I mean ANYTHING) that was modified that minute is most likely associated with delta.  Many things will appear in application folders with names that seem more like gibberish the further down you go.  That's ok - you need to delete everything.  In the event that you cannot delete a file - you need to use the program unlocker to delete the file.  http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/#download  Unlocker will enable the files or folders to be deleted.

Finally, even after all this, you may still notice delta appearing in new tabs.  I was once at this place and I wanted to tear out all my hairs one by one, name each one google, and burn them in a white hot fire.  At this point, if it's still happening and you've removed each and every file, and doing a datemodified search reveals no more files or folders created/modified that the exact minute that delta search was installed, that means the code for delta search is sitting in memory, most likely in a windows .dll file.  For me, a simple restart of windows cured this problem, as there were no files on the hard drive to infect the .dlls after a restart.  And chrome has been running delta free ever since.

Delta search is formidable adversary.  What bothers me the most is that it was slipstreamed into an install of a freeware program that I had been using for a year.  The program required an update (required, not asked for) and I obliged.  I made sure to UNCHECK whatever software it wanted to install in addition, and it was STILL there.  So shame on Delta search and the vendors for being so dishonest and putting us all through this misery.  Also, last I checked Google like owns the world - in all honesty, I have had so many problems with chrome this year, from this delta search (which did NOT infect Internet Explorer or Mozilla after the extensions were removed - the first, easy part of the fix) and I've had other problems with chrome as well.  I'd hate to go back to firefox, since Chrome is 10x faster when using Gmail, but I'm tired of my browser crashing or being so easily hijacked.  Maybe they could hire a few engineers to stay on top of this stuff.  It's not hard to have 1 dude (or gal) acting as a honeypot trying to get hijacked by delta search and documenting ALL the steps necessary to remove it.  Clearly, the basic (here's what you do in chrome) isn't working for the hundreds of people crying out for help on here.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 12:05 PM
Hi, Tom -- glad to have these details. But when you say you tried "everything" did that include AdwCleaner?

Delta is a nasty piece of work: a virus that finds and embeds itself in several places. It doesn't always behave the same way. It sometimes carries a package of other adware actions that create pop-ups, sometimes not, can sometimes be deleted through ordinary methods, sometimes not. It can show nothing at all and still spy on you.

The only way to get rid of most versions of this bug is to use adware cleaners. I used several, including AdwCleaner and Malwarbytes' Anti-Malware. AdwCleaner. Both have freeware versions. AdwCleaner seems to work for people. BUT it can leave that problem of the New Tab, which is a default setting problem.

Chrome claims to have fixed this by adding a new button under Advanced Settings but I can't see it on my system. Maybe I have to update Chrome. Another way -- the way I used -- is a simple easy free program called Avast Browser Cleaner. Download the free version and run it, select Chrome from the list on the left, and click the "reset browser to default settings" button or whatever it is called - you'll see it on the window. That should do it, hopefully. Let us know.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 12:07 PM
Did you reset browser settings by using the Advanced Settings function or by using Avast Browser Cleaner? If you just used Advanced Settings, try using Avast.

But this assumes you've already used an adware removal tool like the free version of AdwCleaner or Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. You have to do that first or the virus will keep writing the delta-search page into your browser settings.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tom Pestak 8/25/13 12:20 PM
Tafkira - I tried the following malware/browser hijack removal programs.

1.) Windows Malware Removal Tool
2.) Windows Defender (deep scan)
3.) EMSI Soft Anti-Malware and Anti-Hijack (both deep scans)
4.) HiJack This
5.) Spybot search and destroy.

EMSISoft found a few things, but not all of them.

I was shocked that HiJack this didn't fix my problem and that it required a good old fashion man-hunt to remove.

I did not try using AdwCleaner.  From the review, it definitely is worthy of a try.  http://download.cnet.com/AdwCleaner/3000-7786_4-75851221.html

I presume that part of the problem is that Delta search is quasi-legitimate.  It isn't classified as a virus, more of an annoyance.

Just remember, if you feel like you've done everything possible to remove it, and it's still there - it might be chilling out in Memory - which a restart of Windows should cure.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search nicnat2 8/25/13 12:29 PM
Hi Melody

I feel like I have done everything you suggested and I still get delta search when  I open a new tab...any more suggestions? Thanks!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 12:31 PM
Yes, very good info, Tom. I did try loads of things that didn't work but, like many, wasn't so comfortable mucking around with registry files myself so preferred to use a product for this. Also I was getting pop-ups and other things so I knew it was crawling about. I'm surprised Hijack didn't work, too. I thought it was very good. My SuperSpyware didn't get it, though, and it's pretty good. Windows products are helpless with tihs.

Are you okay now? No "new tab" problem? Turns out that's a separate problem which requires the default reset.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 12:39 PM
Hi, nicnat2 -- a lot of people have this problem. See below.

IF YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING MELODY SAID TO DO AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS, TO REMOVE DELTA YOU MUST CLEAN YOUR DELTA VIRUS OFF YOUR COMPUTER. This requires using additional anti-adware software. Fortunately this is free on the Internet. The following programs are safe to download.

1.  Download the free version of AdwCleaner from this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/. Be sure to use the free version, not the "Pro" version.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 1:06 PM
Hi, Nicnat2 -- Chrome recently installed a new way to fix this which is now appearing on my Chrome so I hope it's appearing on yours.

... Step 3. Close and open Chrome. If the home page comes up okay, open a New Tab and see if it comes up right. If it comes up on delta-search, then go to the Chrome Menu, select Settings, open See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tom Pestak 8/25/13 1:12 PM
I am clean for a few weeks now.  But it wasn't apparent that it was gone until a full restart of Windows.  I actually posted in one of these forums FREAKING OUT because I could not fathom how it was still present.  But, as I said, it's because it was still corrupting a windows .dll file that was running.  A windows restart refreshed the .dll and new tabs stopped being hijacked by Delta.

But I want to stress that even if you run AdwCleaner or a bunch of cleaners, definitely do the search by datemodified and find all the files modified (or created) at the time delta search first appeared.  Many of the files are .exes with the delta logo, with different names.  Once you've identified those - delete everything that appears at that moment, and maybe the next minute or so afterwards.  That will be part of the deep root system of the Delta Search hijack.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 1:15 PM
i've tried everything from reset browser settings, restarting computer, to clearing homepage/opening set of pages, extensions, uninstall programs related to delta search, etc. nothing works. what worked in the end was adwcleaner, but now chrome keeps crashing after every 15-20mins! really annoying! i don't even know why. i've been using chrome for over 4 months now, and this is the first time its crashing, and that too so many times in just one day!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 1:15 PM
My system is clean, too. But your comment inspired me to run my anti-adware again -- I realise now I should do this every so often.

After all seemed normal, I thought I'd just check with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and lo and behold it found four files hidden in my Temp folder, one of them a delta program. And this was after two reboots. Good to use several kinds of chemical agents on this thing, I realised.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tom Pestak 8/25/13 1:18 PM
hp2013 - Chrome crashing could be a separate issue.  I've had problems with chrome crashing the last few months.  One month in particular (July) I got so fed up I uninstalled it on all my PCs (because it was hanging on ALL of them) and just tried firefox.  It seems to be stable again lately, but that may have nothing to do with the delta search / removal of delta search.  Just fyi
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tom Pestak 8/25/13 1:20 PM
My suspicious is that Google's quiet migration and merging of components into a more seamless environment is the cause of the problems.

For example, there used to be a google video/voice plugin for gmail.  I believe that has since been replaced by Google Hangouts, even though the chat in gmail doesn't appear to have changed.  I know this has caused a ton of issues with me video chatting on my Android Phone, and in general, I believe google chat was the culprit in a lot of my chrome crashing.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 1:22 PM
My problem with Chrome is that it keeps giving me "this webpage is unavailable" messages. No apparent reason for it. The same pages come right up in Firefox and IE. Chrome's instructions for dealing with this are about as helpful as their instructions for removing Delta-search. But that's a topic for a different thread.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 1:25 PM
this has started happening to me too, and that too straight after i used the adwcleaner. chrome keeps crashing and other times pages dont open saying webpage not available! restarting the laptop fixes it but chrome crashes again or gets stuck!

i'd like to think its not related to my previous issue of delta-search, but its was working fine before!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 1:29 PM
Really worrying. Sounds like you might need to uninstall and reinstall Chrome to get the registry settings back in order, or whatever the problem is. Please let us know.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 2:13 PM
i tried that just now, and its still crashing!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 2:20 PM
Terribly sorry this has happened to you. Sorry to say it because we are all sick of this instruction, but have you rebooted your computer since the last install?

Otherwise I'm afraid you'll just have to do a new search for Chrome instructions on this.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/25/13 2:28 PM
yes, i have rebooted my laptop, and my chrome is still crashing :(
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/25/13 2:43 PM
It is starting to look like the Delta folks are reading our posts on this. It seems like each time someone has a fix, it suddenly no longer works just a short time later, or becomes more complicated. It's like they keep changing their software to combat our fixes, so the next victim can't rely on what was posted previously. What I think of them can't be put in print.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Paula Wray 8/25/13 3:08 PM
Likewise, I have followed all the instructions, and still can't get rid of it in Chrome. I even reset all the settings to default. I was able to remove Delta Search from IE and Firefox, but now Chrome. The only thing I did not try was the spyware removal program that was mentioned, because I'm afraid of downloading more trouble.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/25/13 3:17 PM
I sympathize with and support your caution. Please go to Cnet or PCWorld and look up independent reviews of AdwCleaner to reassure yourself that it is okay to download. I won't give you a link so you'll know you're really at the right site. Just Google by typing Cnet or PCWorld in the search box.

You have to use an anti-adware program to get rid of Delta. Most versions of it operate like a virus and it can't be removed through normal methods.

Following your instructions helped just partially. Yeah, I have removed the extensions, uninstalled deltasearch from my computer hard disk, removed from the startup pages list. In fact, I have even removed deltasearch from the search-engine list. However, though the startup page problem has been solved, I STILL GET DELTASEARCH WHEN I OPEN A NEW TAB.

Hi, i just simple removed the traces of the files and folders related with "delta-search".

quite difficult to remove from "newtab", even after reinstalling chrome.

then just downloaded this extension and added.

Easy way to remove the newtab issues(just overwrite it)

I have tried all the steps given below, but still problem is not resolved. After opening chrom window, when and all I open a new window, it is getting opened with delta search. Please help

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/26/13 11:02 AM
prabhu - best thing is to download adwcleaner (someone has given the link above), its free and it will remove the delta related issues
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/26/13 12:38 PM

Hi, prabhu t: try this:

IF NEW TAB COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this:

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

IF IT IS NOT GONE, download the free version of Avast Browser Cleaner from here: http://www.avast.com/index.

Hi, Bibhor Ghimirey -- try this:
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/26/13 12:42 PM
Hi, hp2013 - trouble is that AdwCleaner doesn't reset the default settings in Chrome, so if delta-search has changed these - which it loves to do -- you still have the New Tab problem. You can now fix that within Chrome, thanks to a new button in Advanced Settings that restores the default settings. Before, you either had to know how to get into regit program or download a program to do this, like Avast.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/26/13 12:51 PM
in my case resetting default settings didn't work, adwcleaner was the only thing that worked. but now im having the chrome crashing problem. and unable to find a solution. so im switching to firefox now
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/26/13 1:00 PM
Really sorry about that. Did you try restoring your whole system to the settings of an earlier date? Someone suggested that ... it should restore the settings as they were before all this started happening. Maybe you could select a date, say, 2 months ago.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Timothy Anger 8/26/13 2:46 PM
I spent three hours yesterday afternoon following all the directions this blog and others I found . . . .all to no avail!

The small tool I found here fixed it this afternoon easily!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/26/13 2:53 PM
Very glad it worked for you! But if you'd really read this thread you'd have found recommendations to use AdwCleaner about every third or fourth post. It really seems to do the job.

The only remaining problem for some is the New Tab problem which can now be fixed within Chrome, thank goodness.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Patrick Crouch 8/26/13 4:39 PM
It still opens delta search in a new tab!!!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/26/13 4:46 PM

IF NEW TAB COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (the following assumes you have already run an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

When it has opened, it will check your system. If it finds nothing, then select Chrome from the list of browsers on the left, and click the "reset Browser settings to its default values" option.

If it is still not gone, you probably didn't use AdwCleaner.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search a79jones 8/27/13 9:29 AM
I have also tried all of the above.  Delta-search no longer appears when I open chrome, but it takes over when I click the new page tab.  Delta search also reappears in search engine list when restarting chrome; despite removing delta search related programs (incl browse detect & browse defender in program uninstall).  Any help would be great or I guess explorer will be my new browser (no delta search issues there).
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search a79jones 8/27/13 9:31 AM
Also tried all steps... delta search reappears when using open new page tab.  Also removed and reinstalled chrome.  This does not happen when using internet explorer.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/27/13 9:45 AM
Make sure you have the latest version of Chrome. Click on the 3 horizontal bars at the top left. Go to "About Google Chrome". That will do a check on your installed version. If they say you are not current, install the latest. It takes a while, so be patient. When done, it will prompt you to re-cycle Chrome. Do that. Then, go to "Settings". Select "Advanced Settings". All the way at the bottom is a new entry, "Restore Browser Settings". That should do it. BEWARE of pop-ups saying you need to upgrade Chrome. I don't think that is a Chrome message. The logo ain't right at all.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Bruce Weir 8/27/13 11:37 AM
Hi, I too have had problems with Delta taking over from Chrome. I, like so many, have tried everything, following all the advice given on various forums. I even tried restoring my computer to an earlier backup twice - NOTHING worked for me.

However, the last comment of the last forum I looked at said try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This is a free programme and you can buy the full version. THIS WORKED FIRST TIME AND GOT RID OF DELTA!!! My computer's operating system is Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an excellent programme and it was the free download that got rid of Delta.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/27/13 11:45 AM

IF YOU HAVE DONE ALL THE STANDARD STEPS TO REMOVE DELTA AND IT IS STILL ON YOUR SYSTEM, THEN YOU HAVE A NASTIER VIRUS PACKAGE OF THIS NASTY PROGRAM. TO REMOVE IT YOU MUST CLEAN THE VIRUS OFF YOUR COMPUTER. This requires anti-adware software. Fortunately this is free on the Internet. The following programs are safe to download (check Cnet or PCWorld reviews if you want to be sure).

1.  Download the free version of AdwCleaner from this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/. Be sure to download the free version, not the “Pro” version, unless you want the full package.

Read the “Usage Instructions” (below the “Donate” button) carefully and run it as instructed. Reboot your computer.

2. Open Chrome. Is the problem gone? If the home page comes up okay, check New Tab.

4. Close and reopen Chrome and see if the problem is fixed.

Good luck!

IF ALL IS WELL BUT EACH NEW TAB COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (the following assumes you have already run an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

4. Close and reopen Chrome and see if the problem is fixed. iF IT ISN'T, are you sure you used an adware cleaner? Try another one, like Malwarebyte Anti-Malware.

Good luck!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/27/13 11:49 AM
Won't help to uninstall and reinstall Chrome. Delta is a virus: it will just reinfect the browser as soon as it sees it.

BUT this does indicate that you have the virus version of Delta. You have to remove this from your whole computer -- and you'll want to do this anyway because it does a lot of nasty things you can't see, like tracking programs.

Hi, Bruce -- just checking, did you try AdwCleaner? Malwarebyte Anti-Malware is indeed excellent, I just want to know if you tried AdwCleaner and it didn't work, because that's what we've been recommending as a simple solution.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Bruce Weir 8/27/13 1:13 PM
Hi Tafkira - didn't try AdwCleaner because I didn't know it existed. I assume that it is as effective as Malwarebytes.

With either of these programmes you need to scan your computer periodically or use it when you know you are infected.

I believe that the full version of Malwarebytes can intercept malware, such as Delta, thereby preventing infection.

Thanks for the advice.  Uninstalled chrome... Ran Malwarebytes... reinstalled.  Now works perfectly and do not see any options for Delta search.

Go to my computer, go to organise (go to 'tools' in case you are using Win XP)then go to 'folder & search options'\'view'\select 'show hidden files, folders & drive', then apply, OK.(if it is already in the same mode, then itz fine). Now open your 'C' drive(where OS is installed), go to program data ( which is a hidden file), now if you can see a folder called 'Browser defender' (or 'Browser protect' or 'babylon toolbar'or 'Buble dock'), please delete the folder. It will ask for the permission, proceed. Now restart your system.

I have done everything it says, gone into chrome settings, used anti-virus programs, gone into my control panel and I just can't find it. I can't get rid of the stupid thing. I uninstalled it from my control panel once, restarted the laptop multiple of times, it worked for a little while and now it's back.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 3:33 AM
It's a nasty piece of work, this Delta bug. Anti-virus programs don't catch it. You need specifically anti-adware programs. Two are reported on this thread as working well to get rid of Delta: AdwCleaner and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware. Both have free versions. Download one and run it per instructions.

For some people Delta then still comes up in New Tabs because it has rewritten Chrome's default code. If that happens, do this:

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search MarkDigitalMedia 8/28/13 3:54 AM
Here is a word of warning. (We already posted a report to Google).
But if you conduct a search for "remove delta search from chrome" on www.google.co.uk you get these guys.

malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-delta-search/

Follow their steps (which wont work for all) then they link to and advise getting the adwcleaner to remove the infection.

This file was flagged by my anti virus by AVG.. I think these guys are Delta search & have managed to get themselves to the top of the SERPS for getting rid of it!?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 4:22 AM
Wow, that's a good catch, AMarx. Are you saying these automatic links this page is providing, which claim to automatically download AdwCleaner and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware, are actually delta-search tricks??? Scary!

It's important for us to keep providing people with the right links, then. The real AdwCleaner freeware site is:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/dl/125/

The MAM site is: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ (NOTE: you don't have to buy the "Pro" version; just scroll to the bottom of the page and under "Products" select the freeware version)
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search MarkDigitalMedia 8/28/13 5:15 AM
Yes it is scary!
But on the page provided they link to what they call is AdwCleaner but the file gives a 'General Behavioural Detection Warning' using AVG.

When I checked the file size I also saw it was larger than the official file. So yea it looks like they have gotten themselves at the top of the Google serps.

When it should really be this page.

hi i'm tired to remove this how i can remove it this is shit
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search MarkDigitalMedia 8/28/13 6:22 AM
Well failing all the above you can try using the short cuts to get to the settings;

1.) Copy "chrome://settings/searchEngines" into the search bar
2.) Look & delete anything delta
3.) Then for the front page copy "chrome://settings/startup" into the search bar
3.) Do the same again

Let me know if it works out.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/28/13 1:02 PM
does anyone still have issues with chrome crashing? i have been successful in removing delta search, but chrome keeps crashing ever so often! i've tried doing clean install a few times, but nothing seems to have worked :(
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 1:18 PM
I'm not having any problems with Chrome crashing, but I'm having lots more problems with Chrome not opening pages that open right up in IE or Firefox. Error messages usually say "This webpage is unavailable" or "The resource cannot be found", but they are "available" and "found" in IE.

Chrome instructions to fix this kind of error don't work, predictably. (Google seems more concerned with flashy Google Glass technology than basic client services, like making its email platform more user-friendly ... an unfortunate trend.)

I was having this problem before the delta-search fiasco but it's happening much more often now. I'm getting really sick of it. Something's wrong with Chrome settings and I have no idea what it is, but I suspect it's on their side, not mine.

Will just have to switch back to Firefox soon if it keeps up.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/28/13 1:23 PM
I haven't experienced this, but try:
Make sure you have the latest version of Chrome. Click on the 3 horizontal bars at the top left. Go to "About Google Chrome". That will do a check on your installed version. If they say you are not current, install the latest. It takes a while, so be patient. When done, it will prompt you to re-cycle Chrome. Do that. BEWARE of pop-ups saying you need to upgrade Chrome. I don't think that is a Chrome message. The logo ain't right at all. Only upgrade via the above instructions. If it still crashes, you should contact Chrome tech support. Do that via "Help". The first page has a "Fix a Problem" entry & under that is an entry for "Google Chrome errors and crashes".
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search hp2013 8/28/13 1:25 PM
i have already contacted tech support couple of days ago, yet to hear back. and i'm also having the 'webpage isn't available' error and noticing webpages now take longer to load. chrome was working absolutely fine for me before the whole delta-search hijacked my new tabs :(
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 1:34 PM
Thanks, Al. Have already done all that, including the Google Chrome "errors and crashes" suggestions. Chrome is up to date; tips don't help. Help tech support is sluggish and start with suggestions like rebooting, so have postponing that in the futile hope that this just goes away.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 1:34 PM
Also, Al, the three bars are at the top right, not the top left.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Al Reeser 8/28/13 6:14 PM
One last suggestion to all. Try getting help from Microsoft. Since Delta embeds itself in various places, maybe they can help. Since my experience was minimal, I can't help any more. Just one last bit of advice: Quit relying on free stuff. That's how Delta bit us all in the @$$ to begin with. Those verbose "Terms and Conditions" have permissions embedded in them, knowing nobody will read all that nonsense. I've said this before, get a good Internet security package. I firmly believe that's what saved my bacon. Each time I install something, it scans my system for all that $#!+ that caused these problems for y'all. All I had to do was uninstall 3 programs, reset my Chrome stuff, & re-start my computer. All fixed in less that 2 hours. Spend a few bucks to protect your big investment in your computer. It's all up to you. Good luck!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/28/13 6:49 PM
Well, Al, I'm glad yours worked for you. Or maybe it did. Not everyone gets Delta the same way and people are clearly having quite different experiences with it no matter what their security systems. I think it depends on what add-ons Delta imports when it sneaks in. But it certainly has the capacity to get by professional security systems. I have both a professional version of Kaspersky and McAfee running and they didn't catch this. Also, the AdwCleaner and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware freeware are working fine for people and are the only way to get rid of Delta when it comes in as as a cluster of malware, which you apparently didn't get. So I'd suggest that telling people that these programs should be avoided just because they are free isn't so helpful right now.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/29/13 2:02 AM

IF NEW TAB STILL COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (the following assumes you have already run an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

AVAST antivirus
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/30/13 8:07 AM
Hi, James -- if you're getting a spam message then your anti-virus hasn't done the trick, which is often the case with Delta because although it infects your system it's not really a virus in the usual sense. What you need is specifically an anti-adware program. Here's some ideas that should work:

Another excellent free anti-adware program is Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware, available here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ Run this as instructed and delete the malware it finds.

Reboot your computer.

2. Open Chrome. Is the problem gone? If the home page comes up okay, check New Tab.

IF NEW TAB STILL COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (but the following assumes you have already run AdwCleaner or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

Well i have done all thing mentioned in these posts and so and I even got rid od Deltasearch for some time, however after a while it just keep coming back and I'm compleatly sure I haven't installed anything with it again... And yeah when I get rid of it everything is fine for a day or two and then suddenly new tabs get redirected to deltaserch website... it's really annoying. (If this in any way helps I see a new tab page for a while like 2-3 seconds and then deltasearch peage shows up) And sorry for my english.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/30/13 3:28 PM
Hi Martins (sorry for the wrong spelling, keyboard trouble) -- sorry you're still struggling. Please specify: did you use AdwCleaner of Malwarebyte Anti-Malware? You have to use a malware cleaner for this.

If you did, do the following:

IF NEW TAB STILL COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (the following assumes you have already run an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search PermanentDmg 8/31/13 1:26 AM
I have done all this.  My home page is set, and the programs all seem to be gone, but one small quirk still bugs me: The new tab page always redirects to delta search.  My home page settings and what not are set on facebook.  I've searched my computer for Conduit, Linkury, QuickShare, AVG, Babylon, Delta... all to no avail.  I have deleted all files dating to the day I accidentally acquired Delta.  I have all unrecognized programs uninstalled.  I have all startup programs/services from manufacturers I don't recognize stopped.  And yet, the new tab page re-directs to the delta search bar.  Is there a way I can set my new tab page?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/31/13 1:33 AM
Hi Permanent Dmg -- common problem with this nasty invasive program. Here's the standard solution - let us know if it works.

IF NEW TAB STILL COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this (the following assumes you have already run an anti-adware program like AdwCleaner or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware).

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search PermanentDmg 8/31/13 1:41 AM
Ok, I just tried that, but it just ended up resetting my homepage to the delta bar.  I re did all my settings to my preference, but the new tab page still redirects to the delta search
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 8/31/13 1:50 AM
Okay, in that case I'm guessing you haven't run an anti-malware program. This is mandatory to get all the secret hidden files from this nasty piece of work out of your computer. Otherwise it will just keep resetting your browser. Here are the directions:

IF YOU HAVE DONE ALL THE STANDARD STEPS TO REMOVE DELTA AND IT IS STILL ON YOUR SYSTEM, THEN YOU HAVE A NASTIER  PACKAGE OF THIS NASTY PROGRAM. TO REMOVE IT YOU MUST CLEAN IT OFF YOUR REGISTRY AND OTHER HIDDEN PLACES IN YOUR COMPUTER. This requires anti-adware software. Fortunately this is free on the Internet. Another excellent free program is Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware, available here:

Reboot your computer.

I literally just removed it completely. You need to go to your Google Control section (the three horizontal bars in the upper right of Chrome). Then you need to go to tools => extensions and "x" out delta search and fun moods.  Then go to settings and manage search engine remove it from there as well in the same manner. Then you can use any adware scanner to remove registry keys, etc. I used Adw.  Good luck.  One problem I need to fix now is why business insiders web page is now crashing. Not sure if it is related or just coincidental.

The steps in this article finally worked, but not until I used AdwCleaner (below).  I spend our cleaning up chrome settings, removing recent program installations and completely un-installing chrome.

Specifically Step 3 using adwcleaner (step 3) below did the trick.  Follow article and steps via link:  http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-delta-search/

STEP 3: Remove Delta Search registry keys with AdwCleaner.
You can download AdwCleaner from the below link.

Before starting this utility, close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.

Hi Nick -- fully sympathise, it's a terrible nasty bugger, this Delta. If the standard measures don't work, that means it's embedded on your hard drive and registry and is ready to re-infect no matter what you do. You have to clean it off. Here's what's working for people:

IF YOU HAVE DONE ALL THE STANDARD STEPS TO REMOVE DELTA AND IT IS STILL ON YOUR SYSTEM, THEN YOU HAVE A NASTIER VIRUS PACKAGE OF THIS NASTY PROGRAM. TO REMOVE IT YOU MUST CLEAN THE HIDDEN FILES OFF YOUR COMPUTER.

Be sure to download the free version, not the “Pro” version, unless you want the full package.Read the “Usage Instructions” (below the “Donate” button) carefully and run it as instructed. It will reboot your computer. If it doesn't, reboot anyway.

OR another excellent program is Malwarebyte Anti-Malware: available here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Download and run it as instructed. Reboot.

2. Open Chrome. Is the problem gone? If the home page comes up okay, check New Tab.

IF NEW TAB COMES UP AS DELTA-SEARCH, do this:

a. Open Settings again.

b. Click on See Advanced Settings (at the bottom) and scroll to the bottom to Reset Browser Settings and click on the button.

c. Close and restart Chrome. Open a New Tab and see if Delta is gone.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/2/13 1:13 PM
Hi again, answer meh --

Not Avast. AdwCleaner. Avast just changes your browser settings. You need to get the Delta-search program off your computer. This takes an anti-malware program especially designed for this kind of bug.

Delta-search is not precisely a virus, so even the really good anti-virus programs usually don't catch it. You need an anti-adware program. AdwCleaner is one, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is another one.

See my response to Nick, below.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Anthony Woodward2 9/2/13 5:51 PM
I had this problem after downloading a version of firefox. The delta site itself had some good walk throughs on uninstalling from all areas. Also go to Control panel>Uninstall> and Uninstall Delta programs. Note I found other programs installed one called 'lyrics (something)' and another called 'web optimizer (not sure if that was the exact name, as I deleted ever so quickly!)'

Un-installing these seem to have got rid of intrusive adds and pop ups from IE, still getting them on Chrome so I installed adblocker until I can figure out a better solution.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search bobafterdylan 9/3/13 12:16 AM
I was going to try this and after I had gone to one of your links and clicked the download.  When I went to run it, there it came up installing the Delta Toolbar all over again!

Hey bobafterdylan -- what link????
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search bobafterdylan 9/3/13 4:22 AM
One of the malware links.  However, I finally sorted the problem today by going to http://www.surfright.nl/en and by asking how to get rid of the damn thing on the AVG Facebook page.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/6/13 1:02 PM
Hi, DJ and Holly,

If you've done the standard steps and still have delta-search problems, then you've somehow acquired the version of Delta that acts like a virus by infecting your hard drive and hiding in your registry files. In that case, read below for a solution that has worked for many on this list.

OR another excellent program is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

2. Reboot your computer if you haven't already and open Chrome.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/7/13 1:37 AM
Hi, Stefan - I don't know what you mean by "don't post double post". For one thing, "post double post" doesn't make sense.

For another, if you mean I've been repeating instructions to get rid of Delta, yes, I'm doing this because newcomers don't realise they can look through the list to find how to do it, Melody's instructions clearly aren't working for most of the people who post, and nobody from Google has been answering them that I'm aware of.  Is that what you mean? My repeating these anti-adware instructions?

I'm glad to stop as I'm just donating my time and I have other things to do certainly, but I'd feel sorry for those writing Melody and getting only the standard instructions that don't work. If you want to take this over, fine. Otherwise, what's the harm in my helping more people get rid of delta-search?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Stefan vd 9/7/13 1:54 AM
Hi Tafkira,

It's good that you help other Chromie users, but don't copy whole text again and again. :) This make it more a spam page.

Tip
Did you know that here in the Google Chrome help forum, you can share one link that go direct to your original answer:
If you click on the "reply button" click that arrow, then click on the word "Link".
   https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/chrome/mRJY17behbk/LDEEq_2hEVsJ
And with the voting on that post answer, we (everyone in this forum) can see if that post is helpful or not. If yes, we can add it next to the original answer.

Thanks for helping in the Chrome help forum! :)

I had this too - and it was piggybacking on Google Earth! I had just clicked on a permission box & suddenly realised it was a dodgy one. Too late, Delta was everywhere. I managed to get rid of it (fingers crossed) by doing all the stuff in Melody's answer, but I had to do some of them multiple times, wish I had seen this before I started, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. So long as you are thorough and do everything, it does work. Thanks, Melody.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search test testing 9/9/13 1:23 PM
This cannot be successful, as you only block the plugins, javascript alone. However it will again gets reloaded in newtabs.

It's always easy to remove it from homepage or from extensions. But quite easy to remove from Firefox or IE.

But very difficult to remove from "newtab".

Just simple removed the traces of the files and folders related with "delta-search".

quite difficult to remove from "newtab", even after reinstalling chrome.

then just downloaded this extension and added.

Easy way to remove the newtab issues(just overwrite it)

You can hit the customize tab, then hit settings. Click 'show advanced settings'. Scroll to the very bottom and click 'reset browser settings'. All you will have to do after that should be to sign back in to Google. If that doesn't work, you can always go to your Control Panel on your desktop (Start, Control Panel, Uninstall Program) and get rid of anything that has to do with Delta. That ought to clear it all out for sure.

Hope this helps.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Sarah Wieten 9/10/13 1:06 PM
I have done all of these things but when I open a new tab, my prefered page flashes up for a moment and then is replaced with the Delta site. What am I missing? I have no extensions, I have changed my search engine, uninstalled all programs I got the day I got Delta Search, and modified my settings in the way you describe. What else can I do?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/10/13 2:12 PM
Hi Sarah - please go to page 12 on this list and read the top two messages. One of them should set you straight.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/10/13 2:14 PM
Hi, Om -- Delta can get on your system as a virus and rewrite your default settings. When it's on your system you can't get rid of it just by changing the settings. Please go to page 12 on this list and look at the top two messages - one of them should work for this, but I'd recommend the AdwCleaner approach in your case.

How do I remove delta search from google chrome? I have tried everything that is said to do here. Delta is not listed as the home page or on what will pop us for new tabs. It is not in my extensions and I have no program installed by delta. Nothing I do will fix this issue.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/13/13 2:44 AM
Hi, Billy -- Join the club. Delta-search is a nasty piece of work. But many on this list have solved it by using some simple extra steps. Please go to page 12 and look at the two top messages with uppercase titles. One of those should work for you, but from the sound of it you probably need the first one and need to use AdwCleaner first. Best of luck.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Earl Blacklock 9/13/13 4:07 PM
Go to Add/Remove programs and remove any programs that do not come from a major software provider such as Adobe, Microsoft, etc.

Then go to the menu tab in Chrome (three lines on the right side, below the close X), and click on Settings, then Extension (on the left side).  Remove any extensions for programs you don't recognize.

Then hit back space, go to the Search part of the page, and click on the search engine list, removing any search engines you don't want.

That did it for me.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Andy Yanatsis 9/13/13 5:26 PM
Before attempting the following steps, go to your control panel and uninstall suspicious programs.  Especially toolbars etc.

1.  Go to the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button (top right, three horizontal lines)
2.  Select "Settings"
3.  Scroll down to advanced settings
4.  Select "Reset browser settings"
5.  Just to be thorough, under "Settings" Select "Manage search engines" highlight other search engines and click the x at the right.

The next time you download something uncheck all the free add-ons

Cassie, I've used Revo + ADWCleaner, another free program that is similar to spybot and it worked. Thank you for the advice in your post, I'd suggest to edit the punctuation and make it easier to read, structure the content into more paragraphs etc. I would gladly help you with that. Your advice is much more helpful than the one rated as best, because malware detection programs are the key to removing delta and other such search engines and toolbars. Wish you all the best, Mariusz.

Delta Search is heavily impacting the Chrome Browser.
Please strengthen the malware removal system.
It is pulling down chrome.

http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner
Downloading this link, helped clean the malware. Please include something else.
Because, it is not showing up in Uninstall Programs or Chrome Extensions.

Ironically, Google search lists the Delta Search Page for removal of the Delta Search Malware for Chrome, as number 1 option.
Like this.

https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Finfo.delta-search.com%2Funinstall%2Fchrome&ei=UFw2UpvyKsTVrQfR_4HABw&usg=AFQjCNHMSaQvcJm500Xxrx4PHM1c7XCApw&sig2=cBzNmtftpFNY-GJh-lnRzg&bvm=bv.52164340,d.bmk

I uninstalled Chrome twice, but no impact.
Finally the this exe file (cleaner) worked.

http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner

Try this.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search urberliner 9/16/13 2:28 AM
I did this a while ago, and got rid of Delta search.
Today it reappeared somehow, but only if I open a new tab.
I can´t find any more software to remove and the settings in chrome are all according to the instructions here. However, every new tab beginns with Delta Search. This is hardcore spam, can´t google put some pressure on them? There is no thing in it for the user, if a program is that hard to remove.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search xxxLinie 9/16/13 7:45 AM
i already followed all your advice, but it's still there :(
what to do?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/16/13 8:23 AM
Hi Urberliner -- Seems there are two possibilities. The first is that you have somehow gotten the delta-search bug again and need to use a malware cleaner again, if you didn't do this earlier. The second is that the default browser settings have somehow become rewritten, which is an easier fix. Did you check the instructions in the first two messages at the top of page 12 of this list? The first explains the malware cleaner approach and the second explains the default settings correction.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/16/13 8:23 AM
Hi xxxLinie -- did you check the info on page 12 in the top two messages?
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Zaria Taylor 9/16/13 9:00 AM

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/16/13 1:52 PM
Hi, Cherie -- I hope someone has helped you by now, but if not, the Chrome menu button is at the top right-hand corner of your screen and looks like three little horizontal bars located just to the right of the address box. Click on that and a menu opens. You'll want the menu choice "Settings" to deal with delta-search.

Don't worry, you're right, the Chrome menu button doesn't look like a button and many people can't find it -- the design is another odd Google twist, like much of Gmail, where designers live in a parallel universe from users. -- T

Have been getting the same problem with Triple Search, and here's how I fixed it.

I went into into "Customise and Control Google Chrome" - the 3 bars top right - and went into settings. (Or put chrome://settings/ in the browser bar).

I looked at "On start-up". "Open a specific page..." had been selected (not by me as I previously had "Continue where I left off"). I went into set pages and there it was - the triple-search page. I selected it, deleted it and added in my preferred start page instead, just to be sure.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Eduard Tomás 9/17/13 3:40 PM
In my case it was not enough removing all the programs and changing google chrome and fixing configuration, even reinstalling chrome. After reboot, something hijacked new tab feature.

I find an easy solution and seems it works fine. What i did is:

0. Do all the steps as described in the recomended solution (uninstall programs and fix configuration)
1. Search for the file enhancedNT.dll (it was on a Bable directory under the %AppData% variable). In the same directory, there are config files where the fake search url's are hidden
2. Try to supress the file. It's impossible, as it's running. To delete it, restart windows in failsafe mode (only command line). Go to the directory and delete it.
3.When restarting the system, an error message will appear warning you that enhancedNT.dll is missing. Go to start->find programs-->regedit and search for enhancedNT.dll. In my case was in the same line as another dll file, separated by ";" symbol. Remove enhancedNT.dll and restart system. You will no longer have the new button hijacked!

Hope this is helpful!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/17/13 4:41 PM

Nice to have these detailed instructions, but an easier way to do it in Chrome is to go to Settings > Advanced Settings, scroll to the bottom and click on the restore default settings button.

Hi, Tess -- full sympathies. But there's ways to get rid of it. Go to page 12 on this list and read at the top two messages. Sounds like you need the first one -- using AdwCleaner -- but if you've already done that you might get by using the second one. This has worked for others.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Janice Hunt 9/20/13 5:19 PM
I have spent the last 24 hours trying to eradicate delta search from my computer.  In my extensions, not only does it still show, but now it says it is my default setting AND I canNOT remove it, change it, and as part of a Trojan, I keep finding it hid in various files where it should not be.  How can I get rid of it?  I have uninstalled chrome, restart, then re-installed chrome, only to find it in the condition as previously mentioned.  Before I uninstalled chrome, I had already uninstalled the programs, removed it from my settings/extensions, followed by a restart.  My anti-virus software did identify a trojan and has supposedly successfully removed it, yet delta search is still present???????

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/20/13 8:56 PM
Hi, Kimberly -- If it reverts back, then either you have a regular or open link to a site that's infected or you didn't really get it off your hard drive. It's a sneaky program that embeds itself in hidden registry files and reinfects your browser as soon as it can. It's probably not really cleaned off your system. Did you use AdwCleaner? Did you check page 12 of this list and look at the suggestions in the top two messages?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search kabba camara 9/27/13 2:43 PM
how do i get rid of delta search?it has been constantly on my screen for the past 11 months.i have tried everything and still cannot take it off.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/27/13 5:00 PM
Hi Kabba - Delta is a virus that infects your computer and hides in various places, such as your registry flies. It rewrites parts of your browser and then rewrites them again after you've changed the settings or even deleted and resintalled the browser. Delta isn't just a nuisance; it's a dangerous program because it spies on your files and transmits data to third parties and it can slow your computer down over time. So you really need to get it off your hard drive.

The only way to get rid of it is either (1) have really great computer skills so you can clean out the registry files yourself or (2) use a malware-removal program. Most of us are in the second category.

One program that's worked for many people on this list who are desperate to get rid of Delta is AdwCleaner. It's free and you can find it here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/. Be sure to download the free version, not the “Pro” version, unless you want the full package. Another excellent program is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

When one of these programs has done its work to clean your computer, you may still find that Delta is coming up in the New Tab settings. You just need to reset your browser. In Chrome, go to Settings > Show advanced settings > Reset browser settings and click the button.

Good luck!

I cannot get rid of this appearing in my setting. I have to get rid of it and put google as my defult more than once a day it's getting extremely annoying.

The weird thing is it doesn't even seem to be a functioning search option because when I try to search for something with this setting it simply doesn't search using anything. In other word when this setting is applied I can only use my omni box to go to web pages.

Please someone help I've tried to follow all the advice I've seen uninstalling unwanted programs.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 9/30/13 1:04 PM
Hi, roddymo46 -- You need a malware removal program. People seem to get Delta on their systems in different ways and you have the version that embeds itself in your registry files and locates itself secretly wherever it can rewrite your browser settings. Most of the people on this list were in the situation. And it's doing things you can't see -- tracking your Internet work, mucking up your programs -- so you really need to get rid of it.

The ONLY way to get it off your system, if you're not a computer whiz, is to download a free and reliable malware-removal program that can locate all those secret locations and delete the component files.Fortunately, this is pretty easy and just takes a few minutes.

Look just above this message at my message to Kabba, or go to page 12 of this list and look at top two messages. Then follow the instructions for downloading AdwCleaner or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run them. Either one should do the job. You may then need to reset your browser settings through Chrome but that's easy once you have the hidden delta-search files cleaned off your hard drive.

Good luck!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Kaushik Pathak 9/30/13 10:40 PM
yes!
1->i think you must reach for the Programs and Features where we typically store anything we install! Search of any delta search application!
2->make sure you have completely uninstalled the software, that is responsible for this autoreset or autostartup work! Now you are done with the program uninstallation!

if you dont have this thing installed or done with these two steps
3->check chrome extensions!
4->find it, remove it completely! Now you have completely removed the Delta search chrome extension!

optional, if you have any other browser like IE or firefox, please check whether your Delta search is also affected your default search engine or not!

5->once you are done with step 3&4, I think by now you have deleted/removed that search extension. Now Goto settings->search->Manage Search Settings
6->just keep the only search engine you want, remove the rest! Now you are done with the Search engine part!
7->settings->on startup->Open a specific page or set of pages->  Set pages-> copy any url u want as your startup page, or you can add multiple! what I am trying to say, if there is any delta search page in the 'on startup' list of pages please remove! Note: now delta search webpage will not open when you start your chrome browser!

restart! check the problem status! and let me know!
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search johnlsmith7 10/4/13 5:13 AM
This why these types of postings have negative value.  Cassie directs us to uninstall Delta.  However IT DOESN'T EXIST anywhere as a file/folder.

So tell me again how you can do something to anything IF IT HAS NO EXISTENCE.

Another frustrating glob of meaningless words.

Hello all.Thank you for the suggestions.
I used a malware removal programme and the problem has been removed.
Thanks again.:-)
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/4/13 12:00 PM
Hi, johnlsmith7 -- really sorry you're having such a tough time. Yes, the standard instructions about removing folders are often entirely unhelpful in getting rid of delta-search. Hence all the people on this list!

What you need is a malware remover that can search through your computer and find all the hidden files and delete them for you. Two are free on the Internet and effective for this:

1.  AdwCleaner -- http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

2. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

You can check them out on Cnet or whatever if you want to be sure they are okay. Download one, run it, delete the nasty files including delta-search files, and you should be okay.

The blank "Settings" page is a separate problem - sorry I can't help on that -- can only hope it will go away if the bugs are cleaned off. Otherwise you'll have to look for help on a different list.

Best of luck!

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/6/13 11:53 AM
Hi, Ooi chun keat -- If Delta-search gets onto your computer, you often need to download and run a malware removal program to get rid of it. Good ones are free on the Internet. Please go to page 12 of this list, read the top message, and follow the instructions.
Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Easymac79 10/6/13 12:53 PM
Some malicious programs are able to override anti-virus settings because they are installed with a terms of service agreement which you agreed to.  These can be very tricky in that they hide in trusted programs, or in "express settings" options, a lot of people don't pay much attention to these when installing programs.  These terms will tell the software that it should not be removed, or regarded as a virus.  Sometimes, the best way to remove it is manually through the following steps.  This ensures that no trace will be left on your computer.  It is still advised to run an anti-virus software before, and after.  Some programs will hide even deeper than what you can easily locate, removing their parent programs will allow the anti-virus to remove the deeper ones.  I would advise running this in safe mode without networking, or with a bootable anti-virus so that it cannot modify itself on-the-fly or make a backup of itself.

Remove it from control panel.  Restart your computer in safe mode (WITHOUT) networking. [when the computer is starting, repeatedly tap f8 and you will have the option for safe mode.
Now, open google chrome and make sure your settings are good, that it uses google, and your home page is what you would like.  Close chrome and do a proper restart of the computer(select restart, do not press the power or reset button, we want windows to control the shutdown, and save all settings.)
Now allow the computer to start normally, and see if this fixed the problem.
If all this has failed, update your anti-virus program, and run an in-depth scan.  If it still fails, try using an anti-virus that you can burn to disc and boot to.
Some viruses can be very tricky, they will detect a scan, and make a backup that will then reinstall itself.  You want to isolate everything, so that no changes can be made without your consent.  Safe mode is a feature built into windows used for purposes like this, or if you installed a software that malfunctions.  It quarantines everything but the most critical.  You will notice that your resolution is dropped, everything will seem very large, because it goes back to the most basic software needed to display information.  Sound will be disabled, as this is not critical to running the system. Many features will be disabled, but don't worry, because everything will go back to normal when you restart your computer again.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/6/13 1:05 PM
Re Easymac79 -- this is very helpful and accurate. Just one issue: delta-search files masquerade as non-virus files so that even very good and up-to-date anti-virus programs don't catch it. This is a common problem for people with delta-search: their anti-virus programs simply haven't worked for this. You can have splendid anti-virus programs running that will entirely skip over these files and they will reconnect to nefarious sources when you go back on line. That's why additional anti-malware software has proved essential to getting rid of delta-search: AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware being two examples.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Easymac79 10/7/13 5:54 PM
Thats the reason I suggested uninstalling software manually, and booting into safe mode.  If you are able to identify the problem software, you can remove it, not relying on anti-virus programs to do this automatically.  In safe mode, you prevent it from reconnecting.  Im not familiar with these programs, but im sure that a combination of safe mode, manual uninstallation, and these specific programs would be the best course of action.
I try to stray away from mentioning reinstalling windows, but that is of course the most sure-fire way of removing virtually any virus.

Delta search is a malware kind of extension. Even if you tried uninstalling it from the system, it will remain in your google chrome. The way I tried is installing a external program called "SPYHUNTER" . It is an antispyware application whic can remove the detla toolbar, ask toolbar and other malwares. Check about this software with this link "http://www.enigmasoftware.com/products/spyhunter/"... Hope it helps..

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Bud Blakemore 10/13/13 3:43 AM
I know what you're going through Nathan...been there and done that. I run as administrator and user on windows. I like you 1st did the control panel delete thing and it still kept coming back when I opened programs...I then ran an Avast full scan and pulled up 4 or 5 of the buggers which I deleted and that worked on the user screen but not on the admin even after I repeated the steps I just listed even though the user screen remained clear.

It had been less than a week since it jumped in while I was downloading another program...so I went to start menu, accessories, system tools/system restore and set a date prior to the onset of Delta...and it worked....but I had to catch back up on my 18 or so Windows Updates...but I see that others have had some good approaches too.

To REMOVE Delta:

Open Settings in the "top-right" three bars,

Delete ALL other search pages but Google in "manage Search engines"

Then Under "Privacy" clear your history "from the beginning of time"- check all boxes!

This worked for me.

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/15/13 11:23 AM
Hi, danielabsilva - What do you mean by "it" in "it just doesn't go away"? Do you mean that delta-search is still coming up in New Tab?

If you really did "everything" -- which means that you ran a malware program like AdwCleaner or Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware -- and you're still getting delta-search in New Tab, then you have one more step: to reset your browser settings. Fortunately Chrome has made this easier due to this problem.

Go to Settings > Show advanced settings [at the bottom of the list]  and scroll down to "Reset browser settings" [at the bottom]. Click on the button. Close and open Chrome. Let us know if that did the trick.

But this won't work if you didn't use AdwCleaner to get Delta off your system first.

When I find out who or what is responsible for Delta-Search I will retain a reasonable lawyer. I am tired of my computer being taken over by this *thing* and I haven't installed any programs in a year and it suddenly appears?? I want this thing GONE!

Are there ANY techs out there who actually know what to do? Thank you.

Donna

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/19/13 9:29 AM
Hi, Donna -- Full sympathies. I had exactly the same thought. Delta-search is a malicious and especially offensive program.Because it writes itself into your browser looking like legitimate code, the anti-virus programs don't catch it. It seems to import itself sometimes through a deliberate download by a user and sometimes just appears. Possibly you visited some site and it took the opportunity. It also imports subroutines you can't see, like tracking programs, which you need to get rid of.

I don't know what you've tried but a lot of people on this list have successfully removed Delta-search by using a downloadable free malware remover. I encourage you to check reviews on Cnet or PCWorld about these programs to be sure they are okay, but so far we've had good reports from people who have tried these. Here's what you do:

1.  Download one of two popular malware removers:

              a. AdwCleaner from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/. Be sure to download the free version, not the “Pro” version, unless you want the full package.

              b. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malwarehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

2. Run as instructed. You will need to reboot your computer at some point.

3. Open Chrome and see if Delta-search is gone. Try the New Tab function.

4. If New Tab still comes up on Delta-search, then in Chrome, go to Settings > Show Advanced Settings and scroll to the bottom to "Reset browser settings" and click the button.

5. Close and open Chrome again.

If this doesn't work, let us know.

Hi there

I have done everything i have read so far. I got rid of delta search. Then i tried making Google Ghrome my home page. when i try to open chrome it will not give me Google search or home page. I keep getting a message in the Right bottom corner of my computer. A attempt to change your home page has been denied !!. How to you get rid of this so i can make google my home page ?

Re: How Do I Uninstall Delta Search Tafkira 10/21/13 12:20 PM
Hi, Ronnie -- Not sure I understand your problem entirely, but maybe if you reset Chrome to default settings you can take it from there.

To reset your Chrome to default, go to Settings, scroll to the bottom and click on "Show advanced settings". Then scroll to the bottom of the additional choices to "Reset browser settings" and click on the button. Then close and open Chrome and see if you can access the Home Page through the usual method.

In case you're trying something else, the usual method is, in Settings, go to "On Start-up" and click the button next to "Open a specific set of pages" and then on Set Pages. You just paste the URL of the page you want to use in the box. You can delete unwanted start-up pages by hovering your cursor over the other ones, which will highlight them and reveal a little X on the right side of the gray area. If you click the X, that page option will disappear.

Does this help?

I think i experience the same problem too. basically once in a while, the search default switched away from google.

So I go to settings>search>"set google as default", and google is reset as the default search again.

However, soon after, I don't know what I did, but I'll try doing a direct google search in the omnibox to find it doesnt work, because the default search has been switched back to "http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=chr-greentree_gc&type=714647&ilc=12&p=%s"

In the default search settings area,

google is displayed as

Google   |     Google.com    |   https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=%s

whereas the problematic one displays as

         |                  |   http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=chr-greentree_gc&type=714647&ilc=12&p=%s

Finally, I ran nCleaner, then cCleaner, rkill.exe, then Malwarebytes.exe

Interesting that Malwarebytes found adwcleaner.exe to be malware.  get rid of that piece of junk.
