|Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||12/3/09 3:55 PM|
I started using Chrome this year and found it is faster. Therefore I used it primarily to watch movies and tv shows from such websites as HULU, Justin.tv, Fancast, etc. Recently, whenever I attempted to watch a show on HULU I would get the following message: "Sorry, this video is currently unavailable. We apologize....If this message appears repeatedly, you may need to clear your browser cache and restart your browser."
Of course I cleared the cache and restarted Chrome; several times. Then I finally uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail.
Although this message appears for every show on HULU, it does not appear for any show on the other streaming websites. Also, I can watch all of HULU shows on FireFox and Internet Explorer.
This issue did not start all at once. It began with a few shows being "unavailable", until it reached the point now where all the shows are "unavailable".
Does anyone have any suggestions? My OS is Vista2010-01-06
I did another search on this board for the HULU and Chrome problem. I found one person who thinks they found a solution. hidroball states:
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||dwight.stegall||12/3/09 10:27 PM|
this is not a browser problem. no reason to clear the cache. hulu simply didn't have the video available when you wanted to watch it. all you can do is wait until it is available or watch it somewhere else.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||dwight.stegall||12/3/09 10:30 PM|
that happens to all of us occasionally. they probably pulled the video to see if it was breaking some company's copyright.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||12/3/09 10:58 PM|
Dwight, thank you for your response. However, when this occurs, in every case I am able to use another browser and view the same video instantly. Also as I stated in my post, I am unable to view all of HULU's videos from their site in Chrome. However, I can view HULU's videos from Fancast.
I have done a search on this site and it appears I am not the only person having difficulty viewing shows from the HULU website.

Yes dwight you are wrong(so bery wrong), Nissi gave me an idea for watching hulu and it worked. Internet Explorer works with Hulu very well. Chrome seems to be blocked. Thanks :0)
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||cubedbee||12/18/09 5:07 PM|
This happens to me almost every time I try to watch a video on Hulu. I always just press refresh (F5), and the video loads successfully on the second try. It's annoying that I have to do that every time though, and wish Google would fix whatever in their browser is causing this.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||thehoser||1/5/10 5:12 PM|
I have the same problem. I will have been watching shows on hulu and I go to a popular episode it says this, but oddly the show actually starts sometimes and then about 5 seconds in it says this.
Like others I paste the URL into another browser and the video always loads with no issue.
Maybe Chrome and Win7 related?
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/5/10 6:56 PM|
The problem of watching HULU on Chrome is not just with Win7. As I stated above, my OS is Vista. I have since reinstalled Chrome but have not tried using it to watch HULU. I will try tonight and if it does not work correctly, I will post the problem in HULU's forum and see what hits I get. I am somewhat dismayed that we have not heard from any of the moderators and or developers since there are more than a few of us experiencing this same problem.
After my initial post here, I did a search for a solution to the HULU viewing problem on Chrome. Rather than a solution, I found others who were experiencing the same problem.
If I find any helpful information, I will post back. Everyone please do the same.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/5/10 7:15 PM|
I realize this is a double post and I apologize for the inconvenience since it was not my intentions to post the information as an Update to my original post.
I searched again to determine if anyone may have found a solution to this HULU/Chrome problem. I found this post by hidroball:
This is something to try. Please if you try this suggestion, post back your results. It may help others.

I have the same issues. I love my Chrome and I am running it using Windows XP but Hulu videos are notorious for "Sorry, this video is currently unavailable. We apologize....If this message appears repeatedly, you may need to clear your browser cache and restart your browser." I'll try the flash player settings as listed above but I'd like to see a somewhat installed fix be available. Right now I'm wanting to watch an episode of 20/20 online and it stopped me flat out saying I need to change browsers...I hate that.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/6/10 3:48 PM|
I tried the "flash" suggestion last night and it works, temporarily. It allows one to watch an entire show but it must be set again for the next show. This is not an option for me. I love selecting many shows at one time, putting them into the Queue and sitting or lying back as they all play in order. If I must get up from my comfortable position to reset the flash player for every show, it defeats the purpose of HULU's beloved Queue feature.
I have chosen to use another browser for HULU until a solution is found. I wonder if the Chrome Betas work any differently?
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/6/10 4:49 PM|
I went to HULU's Discussion board and found numerous posts of people unable to watch HULU using Chrome: http://www.hulu.com/discussions/9
Many of HULU's shows can also be found on Fancast.com. Perhaps you can view them there using Chrome.

Add another to the masses of difficulties with Hulu and Chrome. I will add that sometimes the movie will start, but after about five minutes it freezes and then chrome crashes. But mostly it won't load, or I get the unavailable message too. I am also disappointed that no one has responded. If this is the type of assistance I can expect, then perhaps it behooves me to use another browser. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Ahavati||1/8/10 5:51 PM|
ps: I have been using Chrome for over a year with no problems until recently. Also, my OS is Vista as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Chrome and Flashplayer only to have it revert.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||recourse||1/8/10 6:26 PM|
I am also having this issue on more than one machine. Work and personal laptop were switched over to the latest chrome 184.108.40.206. I am on WINXP SP3 on both machines. The issue can be resolved most of the time by a refresh of the page. While yes I would sometimes have this happen in other browsers (firefox) it has started to happen every time I try to watch a video on hulu that when I check it in firefox or browse just random videos it doesn't happen.
Is there a way other than using a hex editor to change the user-agent that chrome sends?
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Ahavati||1/8/10 6:36 PM|
How do you change the settings in Flash player? I just received a message saying (paraphrased) that a script in the movie was causing Flash Player to respond slowly, which would subsequently cause a machine freeze.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/8/10 9:00 PM|
To change flash settings: right click on HULU's viewing screen, select settings. I watched HULU on Chrome for several months also before I started having problems. I no longer bother. I use IE or FireFox to watch HULU.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Ahavati||1/9/10 9:12 AM|
It looks like I'm going to have to. Altering the Flash settings didn't work for me. I am beginning to wonder (due to that Flash message I received) if it's perhaps something between Flash and Chrome rather than Hulu and Chrome.
Thanks for your answer. And thank you too, Google Chrome help desk!

|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/10/10 6:16 PM|
This is the first time I have even heard of that website since, as far as I have noticed, it is not mentioned on the original HULU website.
I also once had problems with lagging, which is why I started using Chrome to view HULU. Chrome did not have all the add-ons and other additions that can make a browser somewhat heavy. I had some success for awhile.
Finally, I took more drastic means. HULU and other internet streaming websites began to upgrade to HD and I felt I needed more than my entry level high speed broadband to watch my shows in peace. I cannot afford cable, therefore I decided to upgrade my broadband from 1k to 7k; an extra $20 a month. I can now watch HULU, as well as Justin.tv, and other legitimate streaming websites without any lagging, unless it is on their side.
The flash suggestion was only a temporary fix suggestion by somewhere on another page is this forum. Your opinion regarding a problem between Flash and Chrome may be something to look into. Last year when Flash upgraded to patch a security hole, we could not watch most of the H264 movies on Justin.tv. Eventually this was cleared up. Perhaps you may consider posting on the Flash forum.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Flyingwolf||1/10/10 8:17 PM|
I came upon this thread searching for my problem. Load a video (any video) in hulu and it tells me that I need to upgrade flash, OK I upgrade, close chrome, run the upgrade and restart.
Tells me I need to update flash.
Endless cycle, I cannot watch any shows anymore without resorting to firefox or Ie and I hate both. chrome was my best friend and is now really pissing me off.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/11/10 3:51 AM|
At the bottom of HULU's page is Support FAQ. It really does not offer much assistance since HULU nor Chrome has answered the question why Chrome users cannot view HULU's content. However there is a modicum of information under Streaming about the flash issue: http://www.hulu.com/support/technical_faq#flash. Also Adobe Flash has a forum.
I know what it is to be without HULU for a period of time. :-)

I absolutely agree with "theposer" post on 1/5/10. I can sometimes get 5 seconds or so into the program before it gives me that message. I'll try IE and I'll get right in no problem. My OS is XP professional. Fortunately, hulu.com is the only site to give me an error so far with Chrome. I prefer Chrome's speed and functionality over IE.

this person was right allow it access to your camera and microphone!!
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||1/21/10 12:35 AM|
I uninstalled Chrome and installed Chrome Beta. I am now watching HULU without any issues using Chrome Beta which, for me, works as well as Chrome. Chrome Beta also has available addons, i.e. WOT.
The following link will connect you to HULU's technical issues support form which once completed can be submitted to HULU: http://www.hulu.com/support/streaming_form
For Flash issues, try uninstalling Flash using the Flash uninstaller: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Then install it again (be sure to uncheck the Google toolbar!) http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Troubleshooting Flash, see: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

Now that Chrome version 4 is here this problem seems to have disappeared for me. Maybe someone really was paying attention to this thread. Running XP with Chrome 220.127.116.11 and happy again!

|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||albanydave||2/9/10 6:37 AM|
I agree with Flying wolf.
I got the same message "update your flash player" I did, restarted chrome and same message, repeated & did it again and same message. I've tried Chrome/HULU in Vista and Chrome/HULU in Ubuntu and hit the same problems. In both cases Firefox plays without a problem.
SO WHERE IS THE CHROME SUPPORT TEAM??? If they ever want to get people to use Chrome OS they have to offer better support of their web browser. I would rather use Chrome but if they don't offer fixes I will be forced to go back to Firefox.
|Re: Unable to Watch Movies From HULU||Nissi1||2/9/10 6:00 PM|
If you have not done so, update to Chrome's latest version, 18.104.22.168. I had success with this version: http://www.google.com/chrome/index.html?hl=en&brand=CHMB&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk-ae&utm_medium=ha
(Side note: This version also has extensions: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/?utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-bk-ext-ae&utm_medium=ha)
Also, due to the multiple installations of Flash, its file may be corrupted. If you continue to have difficulties after installing Chrome's latest version, follow the instructions I wrote above on 1/21/10 on uninstalling Flash using the Flash uninstaller, etc

I was having the same problem with Chrome and Firefox.
I uninstall the AdBlocker extension and Hulu started working again.
