When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. KindlyShade 11/24/09 1:15 PM
Please describe your question/comment in detail (for example, steps to reproduce the problem):  Whenever I open a new Google Chrome window, the window loads not as a fully maximized size-wise window, but as smaller sized window sitting in the bottom right corner of my desktop, very much off-screen.

For others to best assist you in troubleshooting scenarios, please also provide the following:

Google Chrome version (type in about:version into the address bar): 3.0.195.33 (Official Build 31639)

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Afraid I haven't found a solution yet.  Haven't done much searching, frankly, besides this post.  I'm really surprised I haven't seen an answer anywhere.  I wonder how rare this issue is.  Still using Chrome, though, as it's such a speedy/well put together browser.  I either double click on the remnants of the window or just right click and maximize it from the bottom.  Both work and aren't too much trouble, though it is a little annoying.

Here is one method

Delete a file called First run in the following location. When you restart chrome, it will do all the setups again but opens in maximized mode!

C:\Users\User1\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application
Re: When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. KantVersusHume 3/13/10 5:03 PM
This may help some or may not--just posting this for posterity.  If you open up your browser and it is less than maximized and un-centered, try taking the one open, non-maximized window, move it to the top left corner, expand it to fill the screen by dragging the window diagonally to the bottom left.  Do not maximize the window by clicking the maximize/customize toggle button at the top left of the browser--yet.  Also, make certain that there is only one window open, the one you are manipulating.

To drag a custom sized browser window to fill out your monitor's screen, move the cursor to the corner edge of the browser window until it changes into an object composed of two small arrows pointing in opposite directions, connected by a thin line smaller than a centimeter in length.  If you move the cursor to a vertical edge of the window, the arrows will point horizontally, if you move the cursor a horizontal edge of the window, the arrows will point vertically, and if you move the cursor to a corner of the window, the arrows will point diagonally.

Once you have the window in the upper left corner, with its horizontal and vertical edges fitting the respective edges of the monitor so that no background of the desktop is visible from behind the browser window, move your mouse to the lower, right corner of the window, and when the above mentioned cursor object appears--in this case the diagonal one--left click and hold down the left mouse button and drag the window downward and to the right until it entirely fills the monitor screen.

At this point, toggle the maximize/restore browser button window at the upper right corner of the browser a couple of times, to make sure the window does not resize to the smaller version and then, with the window maximized, close down the browser.  When you reopen, it should be full sized, and should you toggle the maximize/restore button, the re-sizable  version window should also fill out your monitor completely.

It might be a little tricky if you are using Vista or Seven, as attempting to expand the window may activate some Windows Aero functionality as you approach the bottom of the screen, but just be patient and this may fix your problem.

It may not as well, but, when I open any browser and it is windowed instead of maximized, this has fixed the problem.  I think Windows stores the last non-maximized open browser window as the default size a browser window should open when not maximized, so, say you have some document open that is in http format, like a help file or say a pop-up window opens while you are browsing.  When you shut down, I think Windows remembers the state of the last such opened non-maximized window and, if that was the last distinct--disregarding any new tabs opened in an already opened browser window--browser window that was opened, then, upon starting a new browser session, Windows may default to opening the session with a non-maximized browser window as well.  It may even be that you never need to have actually seen the last pop-up.  It may be possible that, even with a pop-up blocker, so long as the browser obtained the information needed to resolve the pop-up, it may store that sizing data and browser state as the last opened stated and then as the default of which to open to upon new sessions, so long as the blocked pop-up would have been the last discrete browsing window opened, had it been completely resolved.

I have no idea if any of the above paragraph is in any way accurate.  It is simply uninformed speculation based on what I suspect may be happening.  I just know the technique for resizing the browser window semi-permanently works for me.  There is likely some registry key or config code you can change to make browser always open windows in maximized mode, but, I think in the long run that would be more annoying than occasionally having to reestablish the maximized window as default upon starting a new session.

Hi
I had similar problem. Click on Chrome and it opened in small window bottom right of screen.
Found the solution as follows
Click on Chrome. Go down to Properties and click on this. When Properties opens go to RUN and  change  to Maximise. Click OK
Next time you start Chrome it should start as Full Screen

When you guys say "Go down to properties" you mean by clicking the right button?
I did that but couldn't find any RUN function in it!
My new windows are getting further down every time I open a new one!!
Help me guys.
Thanks a lot

brunoguia,
Find whatever it is you use to open Chrome. Right click on that. Go down and click on properties. A smallish window should open up. About 2/3s to 3/4s of the way down should "Run:  __________". And where I have the underlined area, you should switch it to maximized.
Re: When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. CoolPenguin 7/23/10 11:15 AM
I have just had this sort of problem opening out in bottom right corner of screen, (which was after my 5 yr old son messed with it)
It is already at its maximum possible size just slightly larger than monitor screen (NOT MAXIMIZED), but then dragged whole to bottom right of screen with just half an inch of blue still in the screen.
I have read everyone's comments and tips, (some of which I already knew about) but even none of them helped.
I have however cured the problem by un-installing Chrome and then Re-Downloading it again.
was  bit more messing around but this worked for me

I.m running Win7. y problem is when I click on the taskbar Google icon, nothing appears.  I believe the window is hidden behind the rh side of the screen.

So far I've I've clicked on Google in the start menu and clicked properties and set the start to maximum.  This did nothing.

Next I clicked on the active icon at the task bar and tried to select, restore and maximize, again nothing.

Then I tried another fix from another user about resetting the top and bottom values in script to o and 1.Again nothing..

I can't seem to find any fix.  This is a recent problem. its never happened to me  before and I've been using Google chrome for over 4 years.

I did however rest the personalize, colour border display recent to allow more border to be seen.  I tried to set it back to its values before but I can't remember if I did it right.

I just checked another users report and it was dated 05-2009 and you lazy cunts haven't fixed it yet. I'd be ashamed even turning up for your at your tin-pot third world company.

Now Mr Google Chrome, not matter how this fault was caused or by whom it is a legitimate fault and its you're responsibility to fix.  I even updated my current version of Chrome to the beta model available on-line and still nothing.

So get off your lazy arse and fix the fucker.  I'm sick of using IE and I hate Mozilla.  Do you want me to go back to safari, which I never had a problem with.

an irate Geoffrey.  aresholes all of you.

I was experiencing this problem too and from all of the answers here I found one that worked.

If you right click on the Google Chrome desktop icon and select the 'Open File Location' option. There another window should open up, delete the file 'First Run'. After deleting it reopen Google Chrome and it will ask you to set it up again. Once you go through those steps everything will open normally.

Hope it helps!

Re: When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. thankyouno 12/5/10 12:25 PM
Similar to amigo007's advice, but this works for me:

1.  Open C:\Users\User1\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data (you may have to change your folder view options, see below)
2.  Using notetab (or any text program), open the file "Local State"
3.  Scroll down to the "browser" section (it isn't far), find "window placement"
4.  Change "maximized" to "true" if you want the browser maximized
5.  If you want the browser open to the top and bottom of the screen, but not maximized, you need to change some other settings:
     a.  "top" should be 0
     b.  make "bottom" one pixel less than the "work_area_bottom" number
     c.  "left" and "right" will depend on how wide you want the browser window. "left" is how many pixels from the far left side of your screen you want the left edge of the browser, and "right" is how many pixels from the far left side of your screen you want the right edge of the browser to be. I'm guessing that all these measurements are from the top left corner of your screen, I could be wrong. Play around until you get what you want.
6.  Save, close the file, then open Chrome

To change your folder view options so you can find the file:

1.  Open any folder
2.  Go to Tools > Folder Options
3.  Select the View tab
4.  Under 'Hidden files and folders', select 'Show hidden files, folders and drives'
5.  Click "Apply" and "OK" and you are done.
6.  Remember to go back and hide those hidden files etc. when you are done, you really don't need to see them very often and you can always unhide them easily if you need to.

I'm using Windows 7. If you are using a different OS and the location of the Local State file is different, please post the path!

I found a really easy way to fix this issue. When you open a browser window, maximize it. Instead of hitting the "X" to close the window, click on the wrench icon, and go all the way down to exit. My browser took about 15 seconds to reload the first time after this, but it reopened maximized.

Hope this helps.

I was just having same problem and found this online which worked for me.

Maximize your web browser.
Then hit maximize again so it's not minimized but isn't maximized.

Drag the window to where you want it to start, and re-size to how you want it to start (not by hitting maximize though).

Maximize the window and minimize it again I guess.

Close chrome and try it again. The window should show up where you moved it to last.

Re: When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. dirtycar74 8/8/11 3:55 PM
I have a similar, but not exactly the same issue.  Initial Chrome windows open just fine, where they should, and max'd, but subsequent new windows opened over the first still cascade off the screen, regardless of the original window opening max'd. The subsequent new windows are also max sized, but cascade off the lower right; the more new windows, the further off the screen it will cascade.  THIS is what I want to stop.  All other application windows have no problems launching directly on top of others...  Why can't Chrome?

PS sorry if I necro'd this thread.

That sounds like the issue we were all having. Try bizarrogreg's answer:
Re: When I open a new Chrome window, it loads in the bottom right corner, mostly off-screen. Nitwon 8/12/11 12:36 AM
KantVersusHume's answer worked for me not just once, like some solutions here, but every time a new window is opened in Chrome now. Here's a shortened version:

- Open a single Chrome window
- Without maximising it, move it to the top left corner of the screen and resize it to a reasonable size (one that you'd be happy with if a new, "un-maximized" window were to open).
- For a good measure, maximise and then "restore" (un-maximise) the window.
- With the window not maximised (important), click the spanner then Exit.
- Now open Chrome again, maximise the window, and close it with spanner > Exit again.

Chrome will now open its first window maximised, but any time it opens a non-maximised window, it'll be that size you chose before. Please, read this and follow it carefully before you dismiss it.

Thank you.

i also had this annoying problem, what i did is this.

actually when u open anything in new window, that is when the problem arises. when u open a page in new tab, there is no problem.
To solve this, try opening a link in new window. the new window loads on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. on the edge, right click so that you get the windows standard menu that contains restore/maximize/size/minimize close etc. once you get that right click menu choose size. you will get that + mark cursor indicating it is in size mode. now DONT drag with mouse, nothing happens, just use keyboard arrow keys, move that window once to the center of the screen and press escape tht it goes out of Sizing option.
now try closing chrome and reopening and trying to open a site using new window, voila the problem is gone.................

it's really easy to fix.

go to the google chrome icon on your desktop, or wherever yours is.

right click.

click properties.

go to the shortcut tab.

the sixth row down, there will be a row that says "RUN".

to the right of it, click on the little pull down bar and select "Maximized"

click apply.

fixed
