Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome ML123 1/29/09 5:00 AM
Am I doing something wrong? When I click the red button X at top right corner, nothing happens.
I have to scroll down the wrench to Exit.

I've never had that problem in any build. what version are you running?
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome ML123 1/30/09 4:51 AM
I just got updated since posting, to 1.0.154.46

The problem is still there. The red X doesn't close Chrome. The next box to the left of the X doesn't make the screen smaller, the minimize button does not minimize. When I hover the mouse over this top right area, none of the 3 options show any signs that I'm moving over them.

An example: in Opera, if I move the mouse over that area, the 3 boxes react and turn a brighter color. This is not happening with Chrome.
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome ML123 2/5/09 4:37 AM
I just installed Chrome on an XP and it's version 1.0.154.48. In this version and on XP, when I click the X, Chrome closes like it's supposed to.

I'm still having problems with Chrome on Vista and will see if the update to 1.0.154.48 will help.

Same problem here. However I have a clue whats causing it - it started happening after I changed the DPI.

OS: Vista Home Premium / Service Pack 1
Chrome: 1.0.154.48

DPI - dots per inch? or something else? Please explain.
Thanks

Thats right.
There's more info here:http://www.lawfirmsoftware.com/support/change_dpi_settings_vista.htm
And I just found this post which is about the same issue: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=16545f8ac77c42f7&hl=en

Submitted a bug report.
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome ML123 2/5/09 11:48 AM
Gee, I'd hate to have to mess with my DPI. I had oodles of problems setting my up monitors and finally got it working. I guess if Chrome doesn't work with the DPI settings I have, I won't use Chrome very often.

At this link http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=16545f8ac77c42f7&hl=en
one person mentioned the light blue bar at the top of Chrome. I'm also not seeing the light blue bar in Vista, but I do see it in XP.

I hope this bug gets fixed.
Thanks

Flaming Rabbit and kllarso1 said this worked:

Right click on your Google Chrome icon on your desktop.
Go to Properties > Middle Tab > and tick the first box with setting of "Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)

If that works for me on Vista, I'll let you all know.
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome mkane 2/6/09 5:38 AM
Its a bug. I am using XP SP3 never changed any setting and still gives me occasional problems.
what i do? change the website on the tab and it closes easily.
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome ML123 2/7/09 1:05 PM
Woo, Hoo! I can close Chrome the normal way now, and I can see the light blue border at the top!! FlamingRabbit's tip worked.

Definitely a bug when using Vista Home Premium SP1.
In XP, I didn't have this problem.

If you don't care about your DPI settings in Chrome you can fix this by simply right clicking your chrome icon selecting properties > compatibility tab > disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
Alternatively you can select compatibility mode and select Windows Server 2003 SP1 and remove AERO from the window.
Re: Red Button with X doesn't close Chrome MTP 3/3/09 3:56 PM
This is a bug. As soon as you use Vista with DPI changed, this happens. On my system, nothing works and setting compatibility to Windows Server 2003 SP1 or "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" does nothing.

This is for my mom's computer and she cannot read very well so I turned up the DPI scaling for her. She loves everything except we cannot close Chrome the normal way. What we do is simply close the last tab to exit Chrome and double click on the title bar to maximize un-maximize. To minimize, you must right click.

This might be an annoyance to most people and they can just use the workaround but for someone who is old (which is why many people use this unless they have bad eyesight at a younger age) this is a big problem. I keep having to remind my mom that for this product she has to do things differently. She forgets after a while. She does not want to go back to IE because for some reason on her system, IE now performs to a crawl (navigation is painfully slow and I am not spending hours trying to figure out who or what is slowing down IE).

Same problem but started after I had driver problems with my ATI graphics card and installed the new driver and catalyst software. Before that it functioned properly So far closing the last tab is my only fix and that is ANNOYING I hope it's fixed in Chrome's next addition. (Dell XPS 430, Vista 64bit, with chrome version 1.0.154.48 *current )

I have the same problem since initially downloading Chrome about a month ago. I don't think my screen resolution setting has been changed. I run Vista (on a 2-month-old computer). The minimize button doesn't work, either. If I double-click either of the minimize, maximize, or "close window" buttons, the window maximizes/reduces in size. Weird. The close tab buttons work fine.

I hope a Google employee can explain how to fix this, or fix the problem in a subsequent version of Chrome, if necessary.

I'm running Chrome 2.0.172.43 on Vista 64bit.  I've had trouble with it closing unresponsive tabs, but this is the first time the browser itself refused to close.  I've even tried "Exit" under the wrench.  Note that I just tried closing all my tabs.  Two of the tabs refused to close.  The tabs and the browser remains responsive.

Can't use minimize, maximize or close buttons with the mouse click.  Was able to right click and choose from the dropdown what I wanted and it seems to work that way.  Please fix this problem.  :)

also happens on 4.0.288.1 stable

The following response will solve the problem.

Look for the Google Chome icon on your desktop. If it is not on your desktop, then you need to find it in whatever folder it is residing. You can search for it via:

Left click on the Windows Icon on the bottom left of your screen
----> Select Computer
----> Type "Google Chrome" in the top right search bar

The next step is the important one:

---> RIGHT CLICK on the google chrome icon
---> select "properties" (should be the last option)
---> Select the "Compatibility" tab
----> Under "Compatibility mode" select from the drop down menu "Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)"
----> Make sure that this box is selected "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
----> Select "Apply" in the bottom right of the window
----> Select "OK"

Quit out of all your google chrome windows and restart the program as normal.

Done.

it took a few times but then it did finally work, i must have not been doing it right the first times.
Right click on your Google Chrome icon on your desktop.
Go to Properties > Middle Tab > which is ( compatibility) and tick the first box?( run the program) with setting of "Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1). after months and months its great to finally have this fixed or band-aided at least. no more right click then down to close left click grrrr. I'M STOKED SO I THINK I WILL HAVE A CHERRY DR. PEPPER.
