|2 Google Chromes listed in SHOW ON START MENU drop down box||RADencker||6/3/09 1:30 AM|
Anyone else having a problem with 2 GOOGLE CHROME choices showing up on the INTERNET "SHOW ON START MENU" drop down box? I'm running WIndows XP SP3 and latest stable build of Chrome. I've completely removed Chrome (verifying that NO Google Chromes show up in this same drop down menu uninstall), and when i re-install, 2 Google Chromes show up. They are not next to each other in the list, one is at the top, one in the middel.. THey are separated by Firefox. It's not really a BIG deal, but more annoying.

Not sure why this is happening. Certainly shouldn't happen. Are they both pointing to the same place? You can find out by doing a right click and properties and checking the target box for each of them. Also, to get rid of one, just right click and delete it. It won't do any damage.

it seems they are both pointing to the same chome.exe. These aren't shortcuts so i can't click on them to see their path. They are in the drop-down box located in the TASKBAR/Start Menu Properties section to configure the Start Menu. You know, if you right click on start menu, choose Properties, then go to Start Menu tab, then to Customize Start Menu, in the section at the bottom "Show On Start Menu" the Internet selection. I have the following listed in the drop down box.
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Google Chrome
- Internet Explorer
It's not really a big deal, just annoying seeing both listed. I was just curious if anyone noticed this happening to them.

Same for me. I just noticed today.

Well, an uninstall followed by a restart and then reinstall worked for me. Now I only have one instance of Google Chrome in that list, and it's between Firefox and IE.

Just checked again, and the double entry has come back. Looks like several restarts or something else caused it to reappear.

i noticed mine seem to come back when i use the Google Chrome channel changer. If i change channels, another one appears in the list. The only way i've found to get rid of them all is to uninstall, clean out stray registry entries and then re-install. But, as soon as i change to BETA channel or DEV channel on the Channel Changer for Chrome, they come back. I had 3 of them at one point. now, it's 2. oh well.

oh wow, i hope i don't get 3. well, i did manage to find the registry entry to delete to bring it back to 1. i deleted this folder and all of its subdirectories.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\chrome.exe (i left the folder called Google Chrome.)
i'll check in a couple days to see if it gets recreated again.

this morning i started up my computer, and the double entry is back. i checked the registry and the key i deleted yesterday is there again. so it definitely seems like something is recreating this registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\chrome.exehere's another thread describing the problem that i'm seeing.
