Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? JordanSchultz 11/9/09 2:41 PM
Please describe your question/comment in detail (for example, steps to reproduce the problem): Each time I open Chrome, it informs within 30 seconds that Google Chrome has stopped working, and I opt to close the program.  After I do this, it informs me the Shockwave Flash has crashed.

For others to best assist you in troubleshooting scenarios, please also provide the following:
Google Chrome version (type in about:version into the address bar): 3
Operating System: Windows Vista
URLs (if applicable): n/a
Error Message: "Google Chrome has stopped working.  Checking for a solution" and "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash2009-11-10

URL: mail.google.com
2009-11-10

I just found that this happens in Mozilla as well.

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? megasxlr 11/21/09 10:08 PM
My problem with the shockwave player plug-in is practically the same. After i installed windows 7, two days later chrome began to crash whenever there was an advertisement or video... i can't go on youtube or any site with an advertisement without crashing. Also, IE crashes too.
Google Chrome 3.0.195.33
Operating system- Windows 7
URLs: youtube.com, watchanimenow.com
Error Message: The following shockwave is unresponsive: Shockwave Flash, would you like to stop it?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? megasxlr 11/21/09 10:33 PM
i think i fixed it but i'll keep you guys updated if something goes wrong again... all i ended up doing was installing the latest adobe flash player. http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ If this doesn't work then i'm not sure what the problem may be.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? freudianslumber 11/22/09 12:55 AM
it's not Google Chrome, at least in my experience. Have been streaming Hulu on a 512MB AMD 2.0Ghz laptop running XP w SP3? and out to the TV through s-video for ages. In the last month updated flash(and shockwave too): consistently won't work for more than 30 minutes without the video hanging on one frame after "chunking" along a bit, no way to even get the device manager up or shut down the window, half the time the audio goes weird, then crashes and crashes - script not responsive, Shockwave not responding, Flash has crashed, etc. (of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Explorer - all updated versions, java up to date, nothing else open on the computer and this is the same Hulu.com that's been working fine, in the same configuration for well over a year in this setup.)

Adobe's Flash and Shockwave software is broken
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? merkavam4 11/28/09 12:13 PM
Same problem with me - Error Message: "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash". I've installed an update for Adobe flash player again, but it didn't help.
Google Chrome 3.0.195.33
OS - Windows XP pro SP3
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 11/30/09 8:43 PM
same issue is happening to me in IE, Mozilla, and Chome just a week after installing Windows 7 and installing all drivers and upgrades. im using a brand new HP notebook which had vista on it. I have spent some time emailing back and forth with tech support at HP trying to figure out this issue, and they dont seem to have a solution for me besides reverting back to Vista, which is the last thing i will do.

HP has isntructed me to reinstall the BIOS flash system which i have done 2-3 times. it seems to work at first, but then problems comes back.

anyone have any solutions?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 11/30/09 8:52 PM
actually, i think i just found a solution. MAYBE. i uninstalled CHROME on windows 7 and things seem to be working fine with Mozilla.....so far...i can play videos again...

uninstall chrome, reboot, and give it a shoot
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 9:56 PM
its not just a chrome thing. im still have the same problem with mozilla and IE when trying to play videos. the browsers just crash.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Mmmd 12/1/09 9:57 PM
yeah I have the exact same problem...must be a chrome thing...google, fix it please!

Windows 7 x64
Chrome 4.0.2494;

started happening when I upgraded to windows 7 a week ago. continual crashes of shockwave flash, installed latest versions / plugins for adobe flash and shockwave flash;  no help.  flash will work for a bit, then crash, then work for a bit after restarting chrome, then crash.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 10:09 PM
let me know if you find a solution. i cant play any videos using any of the 3 browers in windows 7.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Mmmd 12/1/09 10:27 PM
there was this solution I found:

http://www.bitconsultants.net/2009/fix-windows-7-flash-crashing-remote-desktop-issue/

I'm a bit afraid to try it though cause even though I don't know what IDT does, I don't know if I use it or not...
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 10:54 PM
IDT is a sound driver. it came with my computer on Vista. I actually redownloaded after installing windows 7. thats a good find. im gonna uninstall it.
basically its an extra sound driver that lets you adjust the sound of you computier- its like a sound equalizer like in ITunes.
im gonna uninstall it.
go to your control panel, device manager and check the sound, video and game controllers tab - youll see it in there if you have it. if you do you can remove it there and reboot.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 11:02 PM
videos are working so far....
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Mmmd 12/1/09 11:18 PM
hmmm...let us know if it starts crashing again; if I don't hear back in a while, I'll try the same...
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 11:25 PM
i uninstalled the IDT driver as discussed, and i can currently play videos using mozilla. things seem to be working. youtube, espn. etc.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/1/09 11:54 PM
let me know if it works for you or if you still have this problem...
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Eric11 12/6/09 5:22 PM
Same problem here--more specifically Chrome says "aw snap!" but this problem also occurs with Firefox and I use Vista Premium This is a problem because just about every site uses flash software at least for advertising, so the number of sites I can reliably visit is constantly shrinking. Might this also be caused by "defective" RAM?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? NASSAlegend 12/8/09 7:18 AM
I've only experienced the problem with Chrome.  All my other browsers work fine.  Explorer randomly crashes but everyone expects that.

I haven't changed anything in the last few weeks.  Please sort this out Google.  Chrome is the fastest Browser on Vista, but now I have to use Safari (which isn't compatible with half the things yet) or Firefox/Snailexplorer!
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? NASSAlegend 12/8/09 9:09 AM
Actually freudianslumber is right.  The problem is universal to all browsers.  This is down to Adobe to sort.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? rocky220 12/8/09 4:48 PM
Alright I myself am getting feed-up with Flash crashing all my computers and all these Posts of flash crashing there systems, It seems to me there is a Browser war going on and search engine war going on, all these Companies Fighting for turf , it's gone out of hand and there is just to much to choose from & why is there only 1 flash player? or is there a alternative? we the consumer should not have to deal with these problems and yet it seems we have no choice or do we? seems from my experience and all these Post'a basically the same, the Problem is FLASH am I right? what I am trying to say WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP THIS? it's nut's cant's just have a peaceful browsing experience anymore  , Think it's time to go back to DOS and dial up a local BBS , anyway That's all I have to Say.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/8/09 8:59 PM
i havent had the browser crashing problems since i uninstalled IDT sound driver mentioned above. i uninstalled Chrome as well and i am using Mozilla with no problems. the only noticeable problem with Windows 7 on my computer as of now is that it the computer doesnt always go into sleep mode. i havent begun to address that issue yet.

so- uninstalling the sound driver has seemed to be some kind of a solution.

also, i have seen one blue screen crash since installing Win7. ive heard that has been a problem for many people as well.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? mrbighitter5 12/20/09 1:54 PM
i have had the same problem with flash player crashing, and uninstalling idt has fixed it.
unfortunately, it has taken away the stereo mix option for me, which is crucial when my friends and i record music.
i reinstalled idt so my friends and i could make music, and flash player started crashing again.
how can i get stereo mix without idt?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Sticka 12/20/09 4:03 PM
i uninstalled the IDT sound driver as well. When i installed it in everything worked again. A few days later i had the same problem.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 12/20/09 4:13 PM
yeah- my sound has been messed up since i uninstalled the IDT sound driver. basically the sound works fine but sometimes it just stops and i have to reboot or go into stand by so the sound driver resets...i suppose.

so today i went to devices, uninstalled the sound drivers and rebooted the computer. the drivers reinstall themselves and so far the sound is working fine. it hasnt turned off yet...

if anyone has a better solution for the sound, please advise.

Exact same issue here. Installed the Windows 7 upgrade to my Vista HP laptop and now ALL of my browsers crash when running flash. It is extremely annoying. I've uninstalled and reinstalled flash several times to no avail. Please help.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? mrbighitter5 12/22/09 8:59 PM
bman im in the same boat.
hp laptop, vista, upgraded to windows 7
flash player crashes with ie, chrome and firefox.
uninstalled and reinstalled flash 18 times already.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? cyberob 12/23/09 12:55 PM
Windows 7 Enterprise. Chrome, Firefox, IE. All crash, all the time! Must be incompatibility with win 7, had same setup a month ago with XP no issues. Anybody?????
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Programmer42 12/28/09 6:48 AM
OS seems to be irrelevant, since so many here are reporting problems with Windows 7, I'm experiencing crashing on Vista Premium 64, and I believe I've also seen this on my Windows XP SP2 machine.
Anyone reporting crashes in IE may have other issues.  My IE8 has major lag on flash games but I haven't seen it crash.  I haven't used FF enough lately to know if it has this problem.  Running the latest versions of everything on my Vista Premium machine, if I have my flash game open all day in Chrome, it crashes once maybe twice.  The speed of the game is so much better than IE in Chrome, and the crashing is infrequent enough to keep trying it, but the crashes are annoying.
So much for the Chrome sandbox concept of each tab running completely independant processes.  When flash crashes, all tabs have to be reloaded.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? davew121 12/29/09 1:21 PM
The Shockwave crashing seems to be across the board.  It's happening in Win XP SP3 also, regardless of browser (Chrome, FF, IE).  I've uninstalled/ reinstalled several times, but any videos in the browser either crash the browser or entire system.  Problem clearly seems to be with the shockwave plugin.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? foote.bbt630 12/30/09 7:33 PM
This is getting ridiculous. It seems to be a widespread problem, and yet not one source, including Adobe, seems to have a clue about the cause or a fix.

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? intheshadowofleaves 1/4/10 10:19 PM
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64....AND....Intel's DG45ID...AND...IDT software\drivers installed.

To isolate the issue:  I tried all the latest versions of flash\shockwave and several previous versions.  I tried all browsers and it broke across all browsers (Opera, IE, Firefox, Chrome).  The only isolated issue left was the IDT driver.

The solution listed below (and linked) worked for me. I had to go back a couple IDT driver versions (AUD_ALLOS_6162.0_PV_IDTGUI_V153).  I sincerely hope this helps someone, cuz I went through so much stress trying to figure this thing out, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.  I really gave Microsoft every last ounce of my hope but I think I'm done with their repeated failures.  I really thought Windows 7 would be solid.  'Andy' - The microsoft guy's answer was honest and in fact worked for me but that has to be the worst business model.  It's like building a city and then trying to put the infrastructure in place afterwards.  I hope I'm not back on this forum in a week complaining again.  That's my rant...Good Luck!

Hello customer,

First you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.

Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.

If it does not work on your issue, I'd suggest you installing the Vista driver in Compatibility mode. Remove and rescan that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file -> Properties and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver via Run as administrator. In addition, you can use the Windows XP driver for testing.

Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait or push the device manufacturer to upgrade its driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!

For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
What can I do if my hardware does not work?

This will give you some guidelines.

Good Luck!
Andy

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 1/4/10 10:50 PM
wait a minute - intheshadowofleaves - break this down a little bit more - so these instructions are telling us, window 7 users, to put the latest version of IDT on the computer and revert back to an older version in device manager?

can you please explain this a little further? thanks.

so it sounds like, if you deleted IDT off your computer, you can reinstall it and revert back to an older version of it without problems and this will fix the sound and not cause problems with shockwave?

i deleted IDT off my computer, and i no longer have flash problems, but my sound is fucked up. sometimes it works, other times it just stops working so i have to reboot or enter standby mode.

please advise.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? intheshadowofleaves 1/5/10 5:55 AM
"so it sounds like, if you deleted IDT off your computer, you can reinstall it and revert back to an older version of it without problems and this will fix the sound and not cause problems with shockwave?"

Correct.  You reinstall it in compatibility mode (using whichever driver version you had working - because I assume everyone has had it working at some time).  In my case Vista worked and didn't conflict with IDT till I upgraded to Windows 7. After following the instructions I linked and attached, this was the only way I was able to run everything without conflict.  I also do home recording and was toying with ASIO drivers too.  Using this configuration, all audio works in all cases and flash\shockwave stop crashing the browser\operating system.

"i deleted IDT off my computer, and i no longer have flash problems, but my sound is fucked up. sometimes it works, other times it just stops working so i have to reboot or enter standby mode."

That was my problem.  It was and either\or situation.  Either weak default Windows Drivers or the latest IDT driver (which caused shockwave to crash)
Once I installed the old IDT driver in compatibility mode...voila.

Hope that helps.

I have windows 7 and Google Chrome, Whenever I try to play a YouTube video the Flash Player keeps on crashing
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ejmausner 1/6/10 2:22 PM
intheshadowofleaves - heres my issue - i reformatted to windows 7. i did not upgrade from Vista to 7; i simply wiped my system clean and reinstalled Windows 7. so how do you suggest putting an older version of IDT on my computer?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? intheshadowofleaves 1/6/10 3:24 PM
Maybe they've archived older versions online?  I luckily had the old version stored on my system, post upgrade.  Not sure that I can assist much more in this respect.  Do some digging to find an older\archived version. Hope that helps!
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? acko085 1/7/10 2:59 AM
Got the same problem as you did but paid no attention at first.
Then when a lot of people started having the same issues I decided to investigate.
The problem "seems" to be in hardware acceleration in newer versions of Flash. Maybe I am wrong but I didn't want to dig deeper since I fixed it easily. HW acceleration is coded as it should be in "pre-releases" of Flash 10.1 so here's what you should try:

1. Download Flash uninstaller and run it
2. Download and install Flash 10.1 pre-release at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

That should do the trick.

Post your results :)

@acko085

Didn't work for me. But I didn't download Flash uninstaller, just uninstalled from control panel. Should that matter?

I installed a new audio driver and it seemed to stop the crashes! Try it out!

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? RubyGloob_1 1/16/10 8:05 AM
Hey Googlers.. any feedback here..??? this is seriously the most annoying crash, as system restart is part of the issues.  I do not believe that this is a chrome issue, as IE 7/8 are crashing too only less sophisticated as chrome.. IE crashes on the following dll's/exe's: dfsvc.exe and npswf.dll..
Any solutions here please !!!!!!!
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Chavi 1/24/10 10:26 PM
Most of you are having the problem with Windows 7. I have Windows XP 2003 and I'm having the same problem so uninstalling IDT can't be the source of the problem. I'll try downloading the flash uninstaller and let you know how it goes.

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? ancho 1/27/10 8:10 PM
People keep stating they have problems. Are there any real solutions?
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? beelstar 2/9/10 2:31 AM
Sadly the only solution I found was to use the adobe uninstall tool to remove flash completely (I use chrome, firefox and IE) and then install it only into IE and Firefox.  Sadly this makes chrome redundant for the moment so I am going to uninstall it until Google fixes the issue.

I'm running Win 7 64bit and the latest versions of all browsers and flash.  I found that as soon as I tried to install flash into chrome it made the plugin in IE and firefox crash too requiring uninstallation and a reboot of the machine and then re-installation only into IE and firefox per the above.

It's a shame really because I much preferred chrome over the other browsers.  Hopefully they'll fix the root cause of the issue soon but until then I'll have to accept that firefox/IE are my only options.

I'm running Windows Vista
I have the latest update for Google Chrome 4.1.249.1045
When I use applications on Facebook requiring shockwave flash my browser will freeze after using the application (Petville, Hatchlings, etc.) for about 30 minutes.
I checked in control panel and the programs that I have downloaded and there are four different ones of shockwave flash. Do I need to uninstall all of them with the uninstaller for shockwave flash and then re-install the latest version of flash?

Hey everybody,

Uninstalling and reinstalling Shockwave Flash has helped some people with this problem. You can find instructions for how to do that here:

I am going to close this thread, because it was started a long time ago and the original problem may have changed. We know the problem hasn't gone away, and we're working hard to fix it. If you're still experiencing issues, please start a new thread.

Best,
Blair

Brand NEW laptop.  Got it yesterday.

Due to work (global company) policies, we are still on XP SP3.  Once I received the laptop yesterday, I installed Chrome (I hate Intercrap Exploder).

Chrome 5.0.342.9
Shockwave Versions... I've tried the version that automatically installs, the pre-release version 10.1 (acko085's suggestion on another thread but made no difference whatsoever) AND I went back and found a link to an archived version of 9.262... ALL of them crash.

Shockwave Flash plug-in crashing on websites such as Yelp, Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, Google Reader, etc.

I noticed this same issue on my previous laptop... which died last Wednesday due to a Video Card death...  The issue has been going on for about a month or so.... not sure if it is a coincidence or not... but Adobe (aka, crap) Standard 9 was installed on my old machine in February and was installed on this new machine.

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Blair (Googler) 7/3/10 6:27 AM
Hey everybody,

We’re excited to announce that Adobe Flash is now integrated into Google Chrome’s Stable channel by default. This integration will eliminate the need to install and update Flash Player separately. This reduces the security risk and issues related to using outdated versions. As of this week, your browser should automatically be updated with integrated Flash Player. To check, simply go to Tools > About Google Chrome.

To learn more about Adobe Flash integration, check out the Chromium Blog post here:
http://blog.chromium.org/2010/06/enabling-adobe-flash-player-support-in.html

With regards to Shockwave Flash crashes, below are a few possible causes of the issue and work-arounds that may help. These do not work for everyone; please only make changes you feel comfortable making.

1. You may be on an outdated version of Google Chrome. Check if you are on the latest version by going toTools > About Google Chrome.

2. You may have an out of date Sony driver that causes the crash. You can try downloading the update here:
http://dlv.update.sony.net/pub/vaio/download/EP0000166578/EP0000166578.exe

3. Hardware acceleration of Adobe Flash may be causing crashes. Hardware acceleration is used to speed up performance of your graphics hardware. If your video drivers are outdated, hardware acceleration can cause issues with Flash. Try turning off hardware acceleration by right-clicking the video, selecting Settings, and deselecting the "hardware acceleration" checkbox.

4. You may have a sound driver incompatibility. Try the steps on the following site:
http://www.bitconsultants.net/2009/fix-windows-7-flash-crashing-remote-desktop-issue/

5. There may be an error in the way Bluetooth handles streaming video. You can try renaming one of the Bluetooth files in System 32 folder. Go to My Computer > C: > Windows > System32, find the file called "BtwVdpCapFilter.dll" and rename it anything else, for example "BtwVdpCapFilter1.dll."

We know Shockwave Flash Crashes continue to be a large issue, and we are constantly working to improve. Please keep giving us feedback and letting us know what works for you.

Best,
Blair

I tried everything and none of the recommended solutions worked. So what I did through trial and error seems to have worked. The problem is, I did two things at once and I'm not sure which is responsible for the fix, so if you want to try what I did, I'd first try the more simple action and, if that doesn't work, try the harder one...

First, simply try installing Microsoft Silverlight. If you already have it, try uninstalling and starting with a fresh new install. Does that fix the problem? No? Here's the second thing I did:

I uninstalled Java completely from my computer (including all the updates) through the Control Panel and then did a fresh install of the latest Java Runtime Environment.

Give it a try and report back here because hopefully one of these will work for you and you'll help out a lot of people :-)

I fixed my problem by disabling the integrated flash plugin (GCSWF32.DLL) which forces it to use the standard plugin (NPSWF32.DLL).

I did this by doing this:

- type this in the address bar:  about:plugins
- there should be two "Shockwave Flash" plugins
- click DISABLE on the "gcswf32.dll" one near the top
- leave the "npswf32.dll" version enabled near the bottom on the page

Flash crash, here too...
Chrome 5.0.375.126 (Official Build 53802)
Shockwave Flash - Version: 10,1,82,76
W7x64 pro (with all latest updates)
Dell Precision M4400
IDT audio card, driver 6.10.0.6217 (latest)

Note that Flash is not installed on my comp (all other browsers say I need to install Flash), I only use Flash through the Chrome plugin, so the problem is there (I guess).

I tried  to try Blairs suggestions, but....
1. Have the latest Chrome version.
2. No Sony stuff on this machine
3. How are we to "right-clicking the video, selecting Settings, and deselecting the "hardware acceleration" checkbox" when the video crashes and Flash becomes unresponsive?
4. "Try the steps on the following site:
http://www.bitconsultants.net/2009/fix-windows-7-flash-crashing-remote-desktop-issue/", the link gives me "403 Forbidden"
5. No Bluetooth on this machine.

In short... the suggestions were useless to me
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? OppfinnarJocke 8/11/10 5:13 AM
Disable the IDT audio card in Device Manager, and then it works. Of course, no sound!
So I guess this is not a Chrome+Flash issue, but a Flash+IDT issue...
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? OppfinnarJocke 8/11/10 5:15 AM
Plus... a hint for Blair to update his list of things to try:
"6. If you have an IDT audio card, try disabling it see if that helps. If so, go tell those Adobe Flash programmer that they messed things up big time!"

OK... I'll follow that suggestion :-)
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? jj87218 9/5/10 8:40 PM
I finally figured out how to make the sound work again without restarting your computer when shockwave flash crashes in Google Chrome.   Click on the Wrench icon on the top right corner, go to Tools, then go to Task Manager.  Highlight Shockwave Flash Plug-in, then click on End Process.  When you reload a site that has flash, like YouTube, click on a video, and you will have sound.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? machiavelli266 9/27/10 9:01 AM
XP 3, Chrome, Shockwave, et al, up-to-date. Nothing running. Seriously understressed 2 gig RAM PC. 7mBit DSL Internet connection. Crash occurs when listening to jazz through www.accuradio.com. Plays for a couple of hours and then CRASH.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? CharlesCabbage 10/7/10 2:39 AM
I have used Google Chrome from the beginning.  I love it.
I have used it on dozens of machines (30-50) around the world, from Europe to Asia, from home, to work, to laptop.
And on all of these machines (all Windows XP, by the way) Flash consistently crashes Chrome.  Like a metronome.  Generally with video sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, even the BBC.
So whoever reckons it is a driver or config thing needs to explain how Flash in Chrome is by default misconfigured on so many machines.
Drivers/config doesn't sound right, because no other browser has this problem.  I'd love to know the real answer.

Also the way that Chrome can take absolutely ages to re-render, pixel-row by pixel-row, when you Alt-Tab to it or switch to a new tab.  That's a separate issue, but is a partner issue to the frustrations I experience with Chrome - an otherwise altogether fantastic browser.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? redfitz 11/3/10 12:50 PM
I've been experiencing loss of audio in Chrome for the past couple weeks continuously. I'm running the latest version on a Mac. Everything is up to date. Culprit definitely seems to be the shockwave plugin because when I stop that process through the task manager and then reload the page, it works. But then it stops working extremely quickly once again. EXTREMELY annoying.

Has anyone had success fixing this? Google, is an update on the near horizon that will put this issue to bed?? I've tested in other browsers and it seems to sometimes work when it doesn't in Chrome and sometimes it doesn't work in any other browser.

HELP..

Google Chrome version: 7.0.517
Operating System: Windows 7 Home
URLs (if applicable): Youtube - and every embedded versions of it!
Error Message:  "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash"
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? machiavelli266 11/16/10 6:44 AM
Bizarre. I keep getting emails from Google Forum offering ostensible solutions to the "Flash Crash" so many seem to encounter. When I go to the posted "answer" I find no answer just another poor soul with the "Flash Crash" problem. The last one seemed to encounter "Flash Crash" in Windows 7, a step up(?) from we who suffer that problem in XP.

My encounter comes when I have been listening to www.accuradio.com or another web music source for several hours. It is as if Flash gets "tired" and just quits.

"Workaround" ain't difficult, just go back to that URL, or another, and get the music back......for a time.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? bethalina 11/17/10 6:27 PM
I have the shockwave crash problem even when I'm not doing extremely data-intensive things... For instance, when I refresh Gmail, shockwave crashes.  I don't watch many online videos, so I haven't noticed it happening with that.

I'm really getting irritated with this problem.  I can barely go on a website anymore without seeing "Shockwave has crashed."  I don't understand why Google hasn't fixed this already...

And the adobe vs. google battle ensues...

Dear Google, man up and fix your browser or I'm going to uninstall it.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? neilblumberg 11/30/10 12:05 PM
It's November 30th, 2010 and I am now having trouble with Shockwave too on Chrome.  Have been working for 5 hours now trying to solve this.  Am a big Google fan, but this situation SUCKS.  I'm dropping Chrome and going back to IE.  Oh well, Chrome seemed like a good idea at the time...

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? machiavelli266 12/22/10 3:06 AM
But, in my case, with the crashing Shockwave, I have none of those "things" i.e.,no  Win 7, no 64 bit ASUS, No AMD sysati.sys  drive, no Phenom II Core drive, AND I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE CRASH PROBLEM.

ANSWER: I JUST CLICK ON ACCURADIO.COM (or, jazzradio.com or .....)AGAIN, AND GET MUSIC........................UNTIL THE NEXT CRASH.

Google Chrome version: 8.0.552.237
Operating System: Windows XP SP3
Error Message: The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash

I have real no solution, I can get it to work once if I clear my entire browser cache but you have to do it every time you want to play a Flash game, I am so frustrated with this, everyday for a week I have to spend 20 minutes dealing with this issue.  It is truely sad that Google or Adobe seem to have no idea how to fix their own software.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? 234873 3/4/11 1:13 PM
Same damn errors. Chrome is unusable. Crashes near every browsing session.

Mozilla and IE aren't incompatible with Flash (they work fine on my system).
Why is Chrome?

THE PROBLEM IS WITH CHROME IF OTHER BROWSERS AREN'T CAUSING THE SAME ISSUE (obviously!?!).

Web search "Chrome crashes" and you see TONS of results in the past 6 weeks. Flash is crashing your browser constantly! Not so with Mozilla, nor even gawd-awful IE!

GOOGLE!!! A LITTLE HELP HERE???

Browser: 9.0.597.107
Flash: 10.2.154.12
Shockwave: 10.2 r154
OS: Vista 32-bit
Machine: Lenovo (nothing Sony about it!...)

PS - Please don't turn into Microsoft and point fingers at video/audio/Sony drivers and/or post once every 6 months with useless and complicated suggestions (referring to one of the "Best Answers" above).

#1 Uninstall Google Chrome
#2 Restart computer
#3 Reinstall Google Chrome
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Erlende 3/26/11 3:57 PM
The same is happening to me, try Safari when you are gonna go to the site where the flash is, it only workes there for me. (Sorry for my bad English)
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Technical_Proficentcy(7) 5/31/11 10:41 PM
I found the work around for shockwave crash

Type about:plugins (in your browser).

On the right side of the page (upper right corner is a "Details Link"--click it. This will expand everything
You should see 2 different version of Shockwave Flash click DISABLE for the Google Home Brew Version

You can tell it's the Google Home Brew version as the Installation location will have "CHROME" in the link.

It will look something like this...(at the end of the long line).
......Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\11.0.696.65\gcswf32.dll

The one you want to KEEP enabled will look something like this....

install location......system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll

Also, you'll have to go back to ADOBE and Maually install Shockwave

Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? mymaison97 8/17/11 9:52 AM
I did as abs011 suggested and  went back to a Flash version released on 6/2/11 and it is not locking up. But, when I go to my blog, it is not showing the changes I have done. And which were done last year and were working up until 8/9/11, when I started having this IE8 lockup issue. So, I have determined after much searching that it is a Flash problem, not a Chrome/IE problem. I have tried looking for a shockwave archived addition instead of the current 11.6 version, but so far no luck. I will continue searching until my blog loads the way it was prior to 8/9. Adobe needs to FIX their problems. What a nightmare!

Yuhu !
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Technical_Proficentcy(7) 9/27/11 3:24 AM
Mine has gone back to crashing *AT LEAST* 20+ times a day.....since I updated to 14.0.835.163 m
When I was on 13.x it got better (and was about 1-2 times a day)
When in the HECK will Google address this issue?!?!?!?1

It *ALWAYS* Crashes on Google Mail now.....have to refresh the screen.
It *USUALLY* Crashes when trying to do a search on Google
It * USUALLY* Crashes on YouTube, especially if more than one tab or window is open
It *ALWAYS* Crashes when trying to open IMDB (for the first time)---I'll have to let it crash, then "reload" to make it work

what the hell is Google doing to Chrome. No wonder Schmidt won't use a Chrome Book to testify before congress, would be classic to see him deal with a crash.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Technical_Proficentcy(7) 9/27/11 3:26 AM
The previous fix was disabling the Home Brew version of Google Flash, however that no longer seems to work.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Technical_Proficentcy(7) 9/27/11 3:33 AM
Blair, with all due respect this is the same answer the Chrome team has been giving since what version 4x when people started to see this. I didn't see it until 10x and it's laughable that you have a product on version 14.x that's still not stable.

As I wrote the last email, my open tab of GMail. locked up (had to reload it). In addition, I just tonight downloaded a free trial of AVG Tune Up and the only warnings it's giving me is those related to Chrome (exceedingly high Mem usage).

I'm using XP-PRO
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? leschwartz 9/30/11 7:12 AM
My programmer level is 0.

Flash crashes very computer I own and use, and my impression that the only common factor is the resources available on the computer.

Faster computers with more memory can handle more open browser windows, and have a higher threshold before the same behavior is seen on computers with fewer resources available.

Browser type, version, even the OS type within the Window's realm, and specific drivers for video or sound seem to have nothing substantial to do with the problem, in my experience.
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? Toni (Googler) 10/17/11 4:45 PM
Hi folks,

Indeed some of the information on this thread is outdated, so I'm going to close this out.

If you're on Chrome 14.0 and experiencing constant Flash crashes, please provide the below information on this other thread: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=3efb07b3f1abd7bd&hl=en to help us troubleshoot. If you're experiencing freezing (which is not the same as a crash), please start a different thread.

1. Chrome version (Wrench -> About Google Chrome)
2. Operating system (e.g. WinXP, Mac OSX)
3. Sites where crashes occur (please provide exact URLs or be descriptive - e.g. when playing Farmville, etc)
4. Crash IDs (see http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=107348). Note this is only a 16 character string.
5. If applicable, steps to reproduce (this would be extremely helpful)
Re: Why does my Shockwave Flash plugin continually crash? demwhit 5/12/12 8:04 AM
I have the same problem with Shockwave. As soon as the computer boots up, I get a warning window that the page is unresponsive and that Shockwave has crashed. This happens every 5 minutes and is getting annoying. Is there any explanation for this? Can I remove the plug in? Please help me with this problem. It's getting to where I don't want to run Google Chrome, and I don't want to do that. Chrome was great when I first started using it a year or so ago, and am hoping you guys can tell me how to fix this. I've tried all your suggestions, but it just made things worse. Thank you.
