|Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Premo||3/8/09 2:54 PM|
I have found that Google Chrome is horrible about saving passwords when logging in to web sites. Pages that both Firefox and IE will offer to save the username and password, Chrome just ignores. I have the option set for Chrome to ask me if I want to save that info, but it just won't. Any ideas? Anyone else have the same problem??

I have the same problem, and have checked under the blue wrench. I do have many saved passwords, but want Chrome to save all of them. There seems to be no way to add a website either.

Same problem here ,Chrome asked if i wanted to save the first few, but then stopped asking for confirmation,though i hadn't changed the setting.I found my saved passwords but couldn't find a way to add either website , user name or password.Am i missing something? , And while i'm here, is there any way to show Status bar so i can magnify a whole page and not just the text .

I just downloaded and installed Chrome and it won't import any passwords from Firefox. I took off the master password and tried and still got nothing.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||yonyz||6/16/09 11:38 AM|
Same here. It doesn't offer to save password on some websites, including Yahoo! and Cockos (reaper.fm).
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Jennie||6/23/09 3:29 PM|
I have a similar problem- up until today, google chrome was quite happily remembering all my my passwords and had been doing so for several months,
Today I log on and no passwords are remembered- I have to re enter them all on each site.
I am also NOT asked if I would like google to remember them. I have checked tools-and seen that I still have selected for google to remember all my passwords, but there are no longer any sites on the list where there were before- I cannot see what went wrong and why they have vanished all of a sudden- really confused and really annoyed!
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||peachesandolivia||6/24/09 8:19 AM|
Chrome asks only occasionally if I want it to remember a password. I've used Roboform for years, to save passwords, but it does not work with Chrome.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||handsomeknight2000||6/29/09 11:28 PM|
same problems, please fix this error
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||JesterOC||7/8/09 5:39 PM|
Same problem. Reset both saved and exception lists, it does not save my password at my home compute but it will at my work computer. Home = vista 64, Work = XP
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||wrg||7/25/09 8:47 AM|
Same here as well. Chrome has only offered to save 3 passwords, and two of them are gmail logins! I wish Roboform worked with Chrome. I guess I will keep Firefox as my primary browser until they update Chrome to compete with Firefox and IE.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Levon||7/27/09 5:03 PM|
I have the same problem, and have checked under the blue wrench. I do have some saved passwords, but Chrome is not asking me anymore if I want to add them. There seems to be no way to add a website either. A FRUSTRATING issue to an otherwise awesome browser.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||qizongjun||7/31/09 2:12 PM|
Same issue with the latest version 126.96.36.199
Chrome engineers, please hurry up... :-) Thanks.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||jyeagley3||8/6/09 6:15 AM|
I had downloaded a previous version of Chrome and it never offered to save passwords. OK I'll download the Beta, I'm sure that will work. Not. It does not import Passwords nor doe it ask me if I want to save them. I've read the suggestions in this thread and tried them and still, nothing. I'll use Firefox or IE that lets me use Billeo until Google fixes this. (Billeo works great for me)
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||stickguy7||8/17/09 9:49 PM|
Under the same option menu check under excepitons to make sure that the site you want to save your passwork isnt blocked.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||jyeagley3||8/18/09 2:45 PM|
I already had checked that. I stopped trying to get this to work. I found what seems to be an excellent add-on named LastPass.
I works very well.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||808pants||8/19/09 6:25 AM|
In my setup, blue-wrench/options/minor tweaks/"show saved passwords" indeed shows an extensive list of websites, as I would have expected, from my import from FF...but it shows NO usernames to correspond with those websites, nor any passwords, as apparently it should if I click on the "show password" button. This could be a major, MAJOR hassle...haven't tried LastPass yet - want to get a sense of its security first.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||deanrep||8/20/09 7:37 PM|
I just downloaded Chrome to give it a try. Little did I know I'd need to be a systems analyst and this would be like a beta version.
It initially loaded and installed, then asked if it wanted me to allow download of all passwords from Firefox - I clicked yes. It worked for a second, then said I'd need to close FF programs which I did. I could not restart the Chrome setup - tried about 5 times to reload the Chrome app, even powered down. Now I'm here and see the password issue.
My next step is to deinstall Chrome - and go back to Firefox. Give me a break!
A waste of over an hour - and I'd better be able to restore my Firefox google!!!!
Not happy and will question if I should hold my google stock or not......

tools>options>minor tweaks>exceptions,(will show u what sites it does not save passwords for) with help from your answers on here thanks guys, i am now a happy bunny.

One more thing to note - Incognito - If any of you are using the full incognito mode, or even trying to save passwords from a page opened in incognito, chrome will not offer to save passwords, you have to launch it as normal (for those who edited their chrome icon properties and added -incognito, have another icon without the switch, also usefull for updating your fav icons on bookmarks which don't update either in incognito mode)
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||808pants||8/23/09 11:45 AM|
I wish it were so simple in my case - I've not used 'incognito' ever. Quite simply, the import from Firefox duly noted all the sites that needed passwords, but didn't import the usernames or passwords for them.
In the week since I last posted, I've had to recover a few passwords the hard way and enter them. Even then, Chrome definitely does not always ask whether I want a password saved - sometimes yes, sometimes no. This is a pretty basic problem in my opinion.

Hi, I had the same problem, but from the other site :) .. Chrome doesn't remember password for pages that I made.
the thing was that I had no action="..." in the <form> element. Adding that... it works!
Hope it will help someone.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||808pants||9/2/09 10:47 AM|
1) "...but from the other site..."? You mean another post, somewhere?
2) '...I had no action="..." in the <form> element...' needs more explanation. What should "..." be replaced with?
If there is a link that explains this fully, please paste it here.

Yeah, Mine isnt saving passwords either, except for some random sites.. Works for Google Login, but wont prompt for most of my other
list of log-in sites.

The folks at Google dropped the ball on this latest update. The inconsistency on PASSWORD SAVING is very frustrating. It would be nice to hear from Google about this issue. I have looked into all the usual suspects, ie: no autocomplete tag, excluded urls, clearing browser data, even reinstalling and NOTHING seems to help.
The crazy thing is that it works fine at home. (older version I suppose)
Nothing more frustrating than a unpredictable browser.
Common Google, support your product! You have great potential but the refusal to engage your potential user base will only chase away loyalty!

i had a similar problem when i deleted my facebook password by mistake. i was able to fix it by taking Internet Explorer, to which i dont use, and saved the password there. then i imported the passwords back into Chrome, and after the window popped away, the browser now asked me if i wanted to remember the password. this only happened cause i was logged in before i logged in through IE.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Kanangkwan||12/4/09 5:44 PM|
I had the same problem. I fixed it by clicking on the little wrench like everybody has said, get to the password area and click on the bar that says exceptions and remove all of them. It saves and uses my passwords
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||OneBinary||12/25/09 4:17 PM|
Curious, for everyone having issues here, did you at any point import passwords from another browser (IE/FF)?
I've just started using Chrome on Linux. I imported my data from FF but noticed the issue where all of the usernames were imported but without the passwords. Researched, disabled Master Password, deleted all passwords out of Chrome and imported again. This time it worked, and I'm able to use the saved passwords, but now I'm noticing that I'm not being prompted to save passwords (and I haven't seen an 'Update' password feature like FF, although I'm guessing that is related).
As a test I might delete all my passwords again and use Chrome for a while to see if it consistently asks me to save my passwords. I'm wondering if the password import is corrupting the Chrome password store.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Turkiation||1/28/10 8:12 PM|
I found a temporary solution. It is not the ideal one but it'll help for the main time untill they fix it in future updates.
Sometimes other browsers will offer to save passwords for websites, but Chrome won't. For example, let's says that Chrome doesn't save the password on Facebook, but Firefox does. You can save the password on Firefox, then import saved passwords from Chrome, under Settings\Options\PersonalStuff.
Hope this helps

I have the same problem. I like the Billeo password program and have grown used to having the passwords open up programs that ask for a user name and password. I loaded my computer with Chrome but it does not support Billeo so I uninstalled it and when back to using Firefox.

Google has been on a landslide for months/years. I'm about to ditch their stock for Apple, a company who actually makes moves and resolves problems when confronted.

For web developers, first check the action on the form. You can't leave it off.
A recommendation for PHP (hopefully this comes through--if not, it's using the SERVER REQUEST_URI var in the action):

having exactly the same problem, most programs tend to amend bugs like this but chrome just keeps getting worse!
it was working perfectly fine up until my last update and now im pretty much forced to use firefox unless they find another fix soon. What a shame
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||OmniMog||9/11/10 4:41 AM|
How is it possible that this is still not taken care of ? having the exact same problem as well, AND having problems with autofill. When I first started to use Chrome, I found it to be a minor revolution. Now, I'm beginning to get sick and tired of all these errors, ESPECIALLY since they never seem to get adressed and fixed anyhow :/
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||Snaffy||9/14/10 1:19 PM|
I'm using Chrome 6.0 on Linux and I've noticed, that the saving of passwords does not work with .htaccess based logins and for the proxy-configuration (really annoying). I use the extension "LastPass" which at least handles most of my passwords way better than Chrome. I would appreciate if that feature would be implement, because it's imho the only thing where FF beats Chrome.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||gav786||9/14/10 6:14 PM|
haha so true ,using firefox as a type this,
i love how much faster chrome is and keeping everything in sync is a breeze but little annoying bugs (ow forget to mention the windows taskbar problem-still have it-) have stopped me from using it anymore......

|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||gggarbett||10/2/10 4:25 AM|
I've found Google Chrome a great browser and have used it successfully for almost a year. But recently, like everyone above, it has started to get fussy about saving passwords. Since a few weeks ago it has only offered to save one so any new sites I save need long, laborious username and password entries. Would it be advisable to download the latest version or are updates being added automatically? I could do with some advice. Are Google doing anything about this glitch. I see no entries from Google programmers here.

Follow the instructions in the following link. Remember to remove all the sites from exceptions tab.
After doing this, restart your computer. now Chrome will offer you to save passwords.

There is an extension called lastpass, works like a charm!
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||ionitacornell||3/9/11 5:22 PM|
This is what worked for me: I accesed the website I wanted to save a password for and then I closed it. Then I went to Settings > Options > Under the Bonnet. At Privacy > Clear browsing data... Select "the past hour" (it should work with any option here, but maybe you don't want to lose to many cookies :P ) and only check the "Delete cookies and other site data" box (so you don't lose other data). Then click the "Clear browsing data" button.
Go to the website you want to save your password for, login and the browser should prompt for saving the password.
Again, it's not guaranteed, it just worked for me.
|Re: Why won't Chrome save passwords?||LJT58||7/17/11 4:39 AM|
Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on Chrome OS).
Click the Personal Stuff tab.
Click Manage saved passwords.
In the Passwords dialog that appears, scroll down to the "Exceptions" section at the bottom.
To remove a site from this list, select it and click the x that appears the end of the row.
Now revisit the website and you should see the prompt to save your password information again, if you've allowed Google Chrome to show the prompt.
